– Leaked Panama Papers show that Nigerian Senate president hid some assets from Code of Conduct Bureau – Three hidden companies registered on Toyin Saraki, his wife – Saraki’s brother owns several companies in offshore financial havens Internal data of the Panama-based offshore-provider, Mossack Fonseca, has exposed that at least four assets of the family of the Senate president Bukola Saraki tucked away in secret offshore territories. However, Saraki didn’t mention these assets in his declaration, as required by Nigerian laws. This disclosure could worsen his case as he battles to extricate himself from allegations of graft. Premium Times reports that a hidden London property in the name of Toyin Saraki but which was left out among the assets published by the Senate president. The undeclared property is located at #8 Whuttaker Street, Belgravia, London SW1W 8JQ. It has title number NGL802235. Apart from the hidden London property, three additional abroad assets in the name of Saraki’s wife were hidden from the Nigerian government and are missing from his declaration form. READ ALSO: James Ibori listed in Panama Papers Mrs. Saraki reportedly owns secret companies in some notorious tax havens. The first hidden asset is Girol Properties Ltd that was registered on August 25, 2004 (a year after Saraki became governor of Nigeria’s north-central state of Kwara in the British Virgin Island (BVI). Company papers show that Mrs. Saraki has 25,000 numbers of shares with a par value of US$ 1,00 each, and was appointed the first and only director of the company. The second one, Sandon Development Limited, was registered in Seychelles Island on January 12, 2011 and has Mrs. Saraki and one Babatunde Morakinyo, (a long-term personal aide and friend of Mr. Saraki) of 11 Okeme Street, Lagos, as stakeholders. The third hidden company in the name of Saraki’s wife is Landfield International Developments Ltd., a company registered in the British Virgin Islands on April 8, 2014. Apart from Saraki’s wife Laolu Saraki, his brother, also has several footprints in offshore financial havens, papers show. The younger Saraki is connected to a number of shell companies. READ ALSO: APC chief attacks Saraki for refusing to resign, blasts Fayose Laolu is sole stakeholder in some of the companies while has a joint ownership with some business partners in others. He is the owner of Polly Capital Holdings Ltd registered in Niue, a small island nation in the South Pacific Ocean. Another document showed that after some years, Laolu brought in another person as co-owner. The company is now co-owned with a certain Richard Pembroke, who has 25,000 equity shares, just like Laolu. Saraki’s wife was quizzed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission in relation to awards of contracts during her husband’s tenure as governor. However, the agency has not taken further actions since her interrogation, and nothing has been heard of the case since then. Saraki himself is currently facing corruption charges at the code of conduct tribunal over falsification of assets. In his declaration form, Mr. Saraki listed property owned by his wife, Toyin Saraki, to include a plot of land at Lekki valued at N5 million, which he said was a gift he received in January 1989. At least 14 people were killed and dozens more injured when a flyover collapsed in a busy Indian city on Thursday, an official said, as emergency workers battled to rescue people trapped under the rubble. The flyover was under construction when it collapsed onto a crowded street in the eastern city of Kolkata around lunchtime, crushing pedestrians, cars and other vehicles under concrete slabs and metal. “Fourteen people are confirmed dead. More than 70 are injured,” National Disaster Management Authority spokesman Anurag Gupta told AFP by phone. “The rescue operation is still on as many people are trapped under the debris.” Police and pedestrians initially used their hands to try to move fallen girders and steel rods to reach people. An AFP reporter saw body parts in the debris. Soldiers then rushed to the site, television footage showed, as locals armed with bamboo sticks raced to lift rubble and crowds gathered in the hope of hearing news of loved ones feared trapped. “Everything is finished,” screamed Parbati Mondal, whose fruit-seller husband was missing in the collapse. Specialist rescue teams armed with concrete cutters, drilling machines, sensors to detect life and sniffer dogs were also on their way, Gupta said. Kolkata, in India’s east, is the venue of this Sunday’s World T20 cricket final which is set to draw thousands of fans to the city. Construction on the flyover had been delayed for several years in the congested city, according to local media reports. Television footage showed one bloodied body trapped under a concrete slab, and also the hand of a person sticking out from under twisted debris. An eyewitness at the scene described a loud bang “like a bomb blast and suddenly there was a lot of smoke and dust”. “I looked at the other side of the road and people were screaming: ‘The bridge is collapsing’,” the unnamed man told television networks. A crane was seen lifting a mangled car from under the debris and part of a crushed bus was visible protruding from the rubble, although it was unclear if it had been carrying passengers. Firemen were also on the scene, fighting a blaze that ignited from spilt petrol. “Monumental tragedy. Rescue ops on. Many feared dead,” tweeted Derek O’Brien, a lawmaker and spokesman for the ruling Trinamool Congress Party in West Bengal state, of which Kolkata is the capital. Home Minister Rajnath Singh said he was monitoring the situation adding that he was “deeply saddened to know that precious lives have been lost in the Kolkata accident”. The accident is the latest in a string of deadly construction collapses in India, some of which have highlighted shoddy building standards. A huge demand for housing, roads and other infrastructure in India often results in cost-cutting and a lack of safety inspections. http://www.punchng.com/14-killed-70-injured-as-flyover-collapses/

Fellow N'landers good morning. I have missed this forum, any way its for a very good purpose. I have done Igba Nkwu and Im'ego (Wine Carrying ceremony and paying of bride price). My challenge now is that my wife is asking me how much was paid on her head as dowry. Is it proper to disclose that info to her? |
The corper is beautiful. I think I have found a wife. Please corper PM me, lets start from there. |
I start to imagine what a normal human being would ever need 13 Billion British Pounds that's 27 trillions of Naira for in this limited world, which if divided according to the equivocal population of Nigerians 170,000,000 people each person will get over N158 millions. I wonder if former President GEJ could imagine that only one out of his ex-Ministers could steal such a stupendous amount under his administration without his knowledge. Wonders shall never end! In reference to the CNN report that the former Minister has made a refund of $90B already, how much is Dangote worth? As at today Dangote is worth $14.7B and the 67th in the world while Bill Gates was the 2nd with $ 79.2 on the Forbes list. Diezani is simply a wonder. Old pensioners are dying of hunger daily,Insurgency is consuming lives of innocent Nigerians, workers are no longer getting their salaries as at when due, Government can no longer build infrastructures, road all over the country are in complete bad shape and only one woman got away with this kind of money. Nigeria is a wonder, while Diezani is a SHAME to PDP government. I am afraid of women in Government, what about you? **** I saw this on Facebook.

But come to think of it, is it that the Igbos now value education more than their counterparts in south west? Nothing tangible was given to the best graduating student in UNILAG, he was almost evicted from his house due to expired house rent. But same people were celebrating the bread seller turned model. Igbos are wiser, I think. |

Nigerians like power too much, electricity power, political power, even spiritual power... Anyway, bros Lala @lalasticlala, I know what you can do. Please let Nigerian see this,. And know how powerful their kins are. |
Nigeria’s Power Minister, Babatunde Fashola, has stated that he’ll do all in his power to end the epileptic power supply bedeviling the nation. When quizzed recently by newsmen whether there would be an end to the epileptic power supply in the country, the minister noted that having been properly briefed “in papers, files and memos” since he assumed office, of the situation in the sector, he had taken it upon himself to go round the country and have an on the spot assessment of the situation. He however noted that what he had seen so far had given him hope that there would be light at the end of the tunnel. “This problem can be solved, it is a problem that has challenged us for a long time, not only am I going around to understand the situation, am at Ugwuaji now in Enugu, I’m going around to understand what I’m supposed to manage, I’ve been briefed in papers, in files and in memo, am going from power plants to power plants, from transmission sites to transmission sites, what I see convinces me that this problem can be solved, I’m optimistic that it can be solved, it just needs for us as a people to understand the system better and know how it works. “I am going to be dedicating my time to breaking down all technical issues that have been sounding so heavy over decades so that the average Nigerian can understand how the system works. Our people must know that if people break down pipelines, you know that you are breaking the system, no matter how angry you are, a broken pipeline is going to affect you because you won’t have power, if people feel that the best way to secure employment for their colleagues in the union is to shut down the power plants, the truth is that they are going to hurt more people than the people they seek to protect. “If people think that if there is a restructuring going on in any government agency, and they fear that most of their colleagues will lose work and the answer is to shut down gas stations, the truth is that more people that they seek to protect would be hurt than those they want their jobs secured, for me everybody must understand how your action or inaction affects the system, once this is done, I think I see a better tomorrow clearly,” he noted. http://naija247news.com/2016/03/am-on-tour-to-understand-causes-of-nigerias-epileptic-power-supply-fashola/
