Source: http://dailypost.ng/2014/09/10/boko-haram-report-claims-governor-shettima-killed-gubio-ngala/ Following the revelation by an Australian Negotiator, Dr. Stephen Davies, names of other alleged Boko Haram sponsors have emerged. The latest said is the Borno State Governor, Kashim Shettima. A magazine, “power Steering” which is being circulated, alleged that Governor Shettima is behind the killing of late Alhaji Awana Ngala, former ANPP chairman in Borno State, who was tipped to succeed former governor Ali Modu Sheriff as well as Engr. Modu Fannami Gubio, the gubernatorial candidate of the ANPP, who was killed barely one week after he was appointed to succeed Modu Sheriff in the 2011 general election. DailyPost reports that this is coming even as Ahmad Salkida, the self-exiled Nigerian journalist, widely reported to have an unfettered access to Boko Haram, described as questionable, claims by Australian negotiator, Dr. Steven Davis, of having links with the insurgent group. The Borno State-born journalist, who reportedly fled to the United Arab Emirates over allegations that he was a Boko Haram sympathiser, stated that Davis should explain to Nigerians how he “came across” a member of the insurgent group who told him about the former Borno Governor and the immediate past Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Azubuike Ihejirika. The magazine, which claimed a secret conversation with a detained Boko Haram member, Mustapha Kolo revealed that there is an existing relationship between the group and the Borno State governor right from his time as a commissioner, where he served in five miniseries before his election as Governor of Borno State. Mustapha Kolo revealed that the governor had been giving them money to further their course and had been meeting with their leaders over targeted assassinations of prominent Borno citizens and politicians, who did not share his own political ideas. Mustapha Kolo said, “When he (Shettima) was Commissioner, he used to give us plenty money. He even gave us money to kill Fannami Gubio, so he can become governor, but he did not complete his payment; we were following him, he didn’t give us again”. |
Source: http://thenationonlineng.net/new/boko-haram-cant-disclose-its-source-of-funding-sani/ President of Civil Right Congress, Comrade Shehu Sani, on Monday ruled out the possibility of Boko Haram sect disclosing its source of funding and sponsorship to the Australian hostage negotiator, Dr. Stephen Davis. Davis in an interview with the media had alleged the involvement of some prominent politicians, military officers and government officials in the Boko Haram insurgency. Reacting to the Australian allegation on his facebook wall on Monday, Sani who also facilitated the meeting between former President Olusegun Obasanjo and the group in Maiduguri in 2011 said it was impossible for genuine Boko Haram members to disclose to any negotiator the sect’s source of funding. Sani, who dismissed the allegation said, “I have been asked by many people to confirm whether the statement credited to the Australian negotiator about the involvement of some people in the Boko Haram insurgency is true or false. “The truth and the little I know is that it is very impossible for genuine Boko Haram top rank members to disclose to any negotiator their source of funding. “Any negotiator who deviates from his acclaimed role of a broker and tried to seek information about their source of funding will likely be treated as a spy. “How logical is it for the group to be sponsored by persons they consistently despised and targeted? “The government has denied any link with the mediator and I believe the group will make their statement on the issue,” Sani stated. |
Source: http://sunnewsonline.com/new/?p=80500 The most trending news in Nigeria at present, apart from Ebola and terrorist attacks, 1) is that of the impending divorce of charismatic Pastor Chris Oyakhilome of the Believers’ LoveWorld, better known as Christ Embassy. Tongues are wagging. However, this is not the first time a reverend, pastor, bishop, evangelist or a cleric will be enmeshed in divorce. The list is growing both locally and internationally. Incidentally, a neighbour to Pastor Chris at Oregun in the Ikeja area of Lagos State and his namesake, 2) Rev. Chris Okotie, has even broken a record by divorcing twice, the last one being in June 2012. Internationally, there was the case of the revered tele-evangelist, 3) Pastor Benny Hinn, who earlier divorced his wife, Suzanne, and later remarried her. Beside pastors and clergy whose marriages are in shambles, there are those living with their spouses like familiar strangers. Many have not divorced out of sheer fright of scandal. Others are papering over the cracks in their marriages in deference to God’s injunction in Malachi 2 verse 16 while praying and hoping for restoration. Over the years, men of God, made up of pastors, evangelists, prophets, and their ilk who superintend over mega churches, have unwittingly succumbed to the tempestuous whirlwind of adultery, contrary to the fifth commandment of God: Thou shall not commit adultery. And each time this happens, it raises a lot of issues, bordering on morality, spirituality, and most times put on hold or ends abruptly, the productive Christian service of the victim. Early this year, 4) David Loveless, head pastor of Discovery Church, Orlando, U.S.A, one of America’s “10 healthiest churches” relinquished his pastoral duties at the mega church over adultery. The pastor resigned after confessing he committed adultery three years earlier. But Loveless is not the only Orlando-area pastor to confess an adulterous relationship lately. In the past six months, two other pastors, 5) Isaac Hunter of Summit Church and 6) Sam Hinn of The Gathering Place also resigned. A statement by elders of Discovery Church confirmed that Loveless’s affair ended approximately three years ago. However, he only made it known to church leaders within the past few weeks. The elders stated that David Loveless could be restored to Christian fellowship and productive service, but not as a full-time pastor. 7) On April 3, 2014, Bob Coy, host of one of iTunes most-popular podcasts on Christianity and known for his teaching on marriage, resigned as longtime leader of one of America’s largest multisite churches after confessing to a “moral failing.” Coy, senior pastor at the 18,500-member Calvary Chapel, Fort Lauderdale, Florida since he founded the mega church in 1985, said the failing disqualified him from “continuing his leadership role at the church.” Coy, who wrote the popular series,Building a Godly Marriage along with pastoring one of the fastest growing churches in America, also reached audiences through his Active Word Radio Podcast, which ranks No. 12 on the iTunes chart for Christian podcasts, between offerings from Joel Osteen and T. D. Jakes. The Active Word media ministry has been suspended, according to the church. Coy’s past sermon series on marriage was taken offline and unavailable, as were other media pages at the church’s website. Among the hundreds of reactions on the church’s website are requests from people who still feel Coy’s past teachings are beneficial. Coy will be focusing his attention on God and his family, according to his church’s statement. “The governing board of the church is providing counsellors and ministers who will help guide him through the process of full repentance, cleansing and restoration,” said the church. Coy joins three other Florida mega church pastors who recently resigned in those cases after acknowledging extramarital affairs. One pastor, Isaac Hunter of Summit Church, later died by suicide. While experts say churches can heal after adultery scandals and pastors can be restored to ministry, the process has obstacles that aren’t easy to navigate. The time it takes to work through the healing process can be its own point of contention: witness Benny Hinn’s brother Sam, who raised eyebrows after returning to the pulpit just eight months after admitting to a four-year extramarital affair. In 1988, 9) Jimmy Swaggart, America’s leading television evangelist, resigned from his ministry after it was revealed he had been consorting with a prostitute. In front of a congregation of 7,000 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, he sobbed and confessed to “moral failure” without actually going into any detail. “I do not plan in any way to whitewash my sin or call it a mistake,” he told shocked members of his Family Worship Centre. Turning to his wife, Frances, he said: “I have sinned against you and I beg your forgiveness.” Swaggart’s confession is all the more scandalous since he himself unleashed fire and brimstone against rival 10) TV evangelist Rev Jim Bakker a few months earlier for committing adultery with minister and secretary Jessica Hahn. Rev Bakker was subsequently defrocked and fired from his multi-million-dollar Praise the Lord TV station. This time it was Jimmy Swaggart’s turn to repent after officials from the Assemblies of God Church were given photographs showing him taking a prostitute to a Louisiana motel. 11) Rival TV evangelist, Martin Gorman, who was also defrocked after Pastor Swaggart, accused him of “immoral dalliances” in 1986 handed them in. Gorman, who ran a successful TV show from New Orleans, had launched an unsuccessful $90m law suit against Jimmy Swaggart two years earlier for spreading false rumours. He also suggested Mr. Swaggart was trying to undermine rival TV shows. The Jimmy Swaggart Hour is watched by up to two million families and donations raised amount to about $150m a year. After the Bakker scandal, donations from the faithful dropped dramatically and the same is likely to happen to Jimmy Swaggart’s show. 12) Rev Robertson has threatened to sue anyone who calls him a TV evangelist and prefers to be described as a businessman. Four days later Debra Murphree, the prostitute photographed with Jimmy Swaggart, told a New Orleans TV show he was a regular customer but insisted they had not had sex. She said he liked to watch her UnCloth. Along with his son, Donnie, Jimmy Swaggart continues to broadcast to 30 countries but viewer numbers are not what they used to be when he was preaching to more than 100 nations around the world. 13) In March this year, after asking his parishioners to stay a bit longer after a Sunday service, Bishop Bobby Davies a pastor in Connecticut literally dropped dead. His request was made so he could confess his past infidelity and “seek forgiveness.” But only moments after he told his congregation what he had done, he fell over and died from a heart attack. One person in attendance, Judy Stovall, told the Connecticut Post that Bishop Bobby Davis – the founder of the Miracle Faith World Outreach Church in Bridgeport – “wanted to come clean.” “We were shouting, ‘We forgive you, we love you,’ but the stress of all of it — he had a heart attack,” Stovall recalled. “I held his head as he lay on the floor … Our congregation is hurting now.” But some of the crowd was pretty angry. Stovall admitted that the yelling got pretty loud. “A woman, who wouldn’t give her name, said she had been outside the church at the time and heard yelling coming from inside, but didn’t know what was being said,” the report added. 14) Pastor Blaine Bartel of Northstar Church in Dallas, Texas is the most recent pastor caught in adultery. On April 22, 2014, Charisma Magazine reported that he stepped down from his post as pastor after he acknowledged that he’d had an affair. Bartel and his wife Cathy have been married 28 years and are in pursuit of repairing their marriage. 15) That day must have been a strange day for members of Redemption World Outreach, Greenville, South Carolina, U.S.A, one of the area’s first mega churches. Pastor Ron Carpenter basically dedicated his sermon to explaining why he’s leaving his philandering wife of 23 years. More awkwardly, Hope Carpenter was apparently Ron’s co-pastor as well as his wife. For as long as Redemption World Outreach was a thing, Ron and Hope were the face of it, and their solid marriage was an example for their flock. Too bad it was all a front, according to Ron. During his sermon on Sunday, he explained that his wife had been living a double life for years. It came to a head, culminating in her isolation in a one-year, out-of-state treatment program, the end of what he called a “tragic” situation. Ron explained that he and his wife had been struggling for at least a decade. Though he described his marriage as a “fairy tale” at first, things started to go south in 2004. She removed herself from the couple’s ministry completely, and she became increasingly distant until 2010 when she admitted to having multiple affairs. Coincidentally, this confession came on the eve of a planned marriage conference organised by Ron and his Redemption World Outreach church. “The marriage conference was already half way sold out, and $25,000 worth of deposits were made for rooms and we couldn’t back out. I had no idea what to do,” said Carpenter. Ron Carpenter told Word Radio that his wife’s infidelity is only five percent of what’s going on. “There were two distinct double lives. This is not a fling. Not an affair. There was a whole other life and culture and dress code and friends,” he explained. 16) In Kenya, pastor of a growing church was last month, beaten, stripped and forced to kiss in public, the wife of a policeman he was caught with during an orgy in the neighbourhood. Although the angry mob spared his life, he was said to have preached against adultery at a crusade the previous week in Nairobi. And nemesis quickly caught up with him even while he was still married and had children |
The Nigerian Army has reviewed the curfew in Maiduguri, the capital of the troubled Borno State. In a press statement by the Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, Colonel Sani Usman, the curfew hours on the town is now 7pm to 6am. The curfew formerly on the town was from 9pm to 6am daily and the additional two hours was handed down due to the deteriorating security situation in the state, especially as a result of an increase in the number of attacks on some towns. Usman in the statement said no one was exempted from the curfew. “All must comply with the directive and anyone found flouting this directive will be arrested and prosecuted,” he said. The Rivers State Commissioner for Health, Sampson Parker, told a news conference at the state’s secretariat in Port Harcourt on Friday. He said that those currently under watch had so far shown no signs of the Ebola disease. 2. Report says President Goodluck Jonathan and the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Alhaji Adamu Mu’azu’s intervention led to the granting of waiver to Mallam Nuhu Ribadu by the PDP in Abuja on Friday. According to the report, it would have been very difficult granting Ribadu the so much desired waiver going by the decision of majority of the National Working Committee members of the party. 3. There is a new development regarding the ongoing marital crisis in the home of Pastor Chris Oyakhilome of the Christ Embassy, as his wife, Anita Oyakhilome, has reportedly filed for dissolution of the marriage between her and her pastor husband, Chris Oyakhilome due to what her lawyers have termed “unreasonable behaviour” and “adultery.” 4. Private school owners in Lagos State and the Federal Government have differed regarding the order directing all primary and secondary schools in the country to resume on October 13, 2014, instead of the earlier date of September 15. The school owners, under the umbrella of the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools, have argued that the latest directive was unnecessary and should not be considered as part of the measures to prevent the spread of Ebola virus in the country. They made this known at a sensitisation programme on Ebola held on Thursday at Victory Grammar School, Ikeja, Lagos. 5. Manasseh Zorto, a Special Assistant to former Defence Minister, Lt. Gen. T. Y. Danjuma (retd), was on Friday brought before a Federal High Court in Lagos State for allegedly defrauding his boss of N2bn. The Federal Government has announced that it has lifted the suspension of Residency Training Programme in all federal hospitals, starting from Thursday, August 28, 2014. The Minister of Health, Prof. Onyebuchi Chukwu, in a statement issued on Friday in Abuja by his Special Assistant (Media and Communications), Mr. Dan Nwomeh, said all resident doctors equally sacked as a result of the suspension have been reinstated with effect from the same date. 7. The Rivers State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Samson Parker, has disclosed that the late Dr. Samuel Enemou, who treated Olu Koye, a Nigerian diplomat with the Economic Community of West African States, knew that the diplomat had the deadly Ebola virus. The Commissioner clarified this during a press conference in Port Harcourt on Friday evening. 8. A member of a kidnap gang operating in Enugu State, Mr. Chukwuekezie Ofonago has killed his father dead and buried him a shallow grave after he kidnapped him. The suspect who is currently with the police confessed that he shot his father, Mr. George Ofonago with a double-barrel gun at a hideout where he was kept while demanding an undisclosed sum as ransom from his family. Report says the incident occurred at Abor village Enugu Inyi Community, Oji River Local Government Area of Enugu State. 9. At least fifteen people have been confirmed killed yesterday when a boat capsized on the Bonny River. Thirty-five passengers were in the boat when it capsized. 10. It has been reported that about 400 people were yesterday displaced in Benue State after two communities, Shangev Ya and Mbakyaa clashed over land dispute. Source: http://thenationonlineng.net/new/apc-to-jonathan-tans-rallies-endanger-ebola-control/ The All Progressives Congress (APC) has urged President Goodluck Jonathan to halt the rallies being organized across the nation by the Transformation Ambassadors of Nigeria (TAN) for his re-election. The party noted that the rallies were jeopardizing Nigeria’s efforts to control the spread of the Ebola Virus Disease (EVD). In a statement yesterday in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, APC said: “Mr. President, you said your ambition is not worth the life of any Nigerian. But the TAN rallies for your re-election are endangering the lives of thousands of Nigerians in these days of Ebola. Some things must simply transcend politics. This is one of them. Please, stop the rallies now.” It urged the President to ensure that the rally slated for Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, on Saturday, is stopped, because of the spread of the Ebola virus to the city and the fact that 100 people have been placed under surveillance there, following the death of a doctor from a suspected Ebola disease. APC said: “If TAN goes ahead to organise its rally in Port Harcourt, can anyone guarantee that none of those who have had contact with the doctor will attend? It can only be better imagined the kind of danger that those who will attend the rally will be subjected to. Therefore, President Jonathan has a historic opportunity to put the well-being of his compatriots above politics, for once.” The party reminded the President of the statement he made on August 8, when he declared the EVD in Nigeria a national emergency, thus: “Religious and political groups, spiritual healing centres, families, associations and other bodies should, in the meantime, discourage gatherings and activities that may unwittingly promote close contact with infected persons or place others at risk.” It also reminded the President that his administration had postponed the resumption of private and public primary and secondary schools across the nation as part of the measures to curtail the spread of the virus. APC wondered what message the same government was sending to Nigerians by allowing TAN rallies to continue. It said: “Mr. President, add this to the fact that Nigeria’s economy is losing millions of dollars to the Ebola disease, and you will realise that the need to control the disease supersedes personal political considerations.” The party said the TAN rallies in Awka (Anambra) and Ibadan (Oyo) and the forthcoming ones in Port Harcourt and elsewhere flout the advice by the President against large gatherings that could encourage the spread of the disease. It described as untenable the argument that the rallies were not being organised by the government, hence the President has no control over them. APC said: “Mr. President, you are the sole beneficiary of these rallies. Top officials of your administration, led by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Anyim Pius Anyim, have been attending the rallies. The signatures being collected by TAN are ostensibly to encourage you to run again. So, this is your show.” The party wondered how Dr Jonathan could, on one hand, be complaining about the stigmatisation of Nigerians by other countries over the Ebola outbreak and, on the other hand, turning a blind eye when his supporters were flouting the Ebola control measures put in place by his administration. It said: “The embassies of the foreign nations in Nigeria are seeing all that is happening. They are seeing how the efforts of the Federal Government to control Ebola are being sabotaged by the supporters of the President. How then can we complain when our citizens are stigmatised abroad? How can we complain when the foreign governments issue travel advisories to their citizens coming to Nigeria? How can we complain when they start barring Nigerians from coming to their countries on account of the Ebola virus? “This is why we are calling on President Jonathan to call his supporters to order today. We are also calling on all well-meaning Nigerians to prevail on the President not to endanger the lives of Nigerians simply because of his personal ambition.” |
I think you just won me over, I like your precision in analysis ogbronx: Nigerians are really misinformed about the BH thing. For some political gain the admin is treating the BH problem with "kid-gloves". |
Source: http://dailypost.ng/2014/08/28/2015-elections-nigeria-needs-500000-policemen-acting-ig/ The Acting Inspector-General of Police, IGP, Suleiman Abba, has said that the federal government has approved the recruitment of 10,000 police personnel across the nation ahead of the 2015 general elections. The police boss made this disclosure yesterday during his visit to the Leadership Group headquarters, in Abuja. Abba however, said he wished the figure could be increased to 500,000, noting that the current figure was enough. He said, “I chaired the 2015 election planning committee and I made a recommendation therein, that we should have a certain number of policemen recruited ahead of the election. And we came in and found out that government had approved 10,000 more to be recruited. “As I speak to you, the funds are getting close into our own hand and the recruitment will begin. So, we are making effort to reach the required number. We wish we could get up to 500,000 but, then, remember that we are not doing it alone. There are other services and the other services are helping us,” he said. “You would have witnessed what happened to the intelligence department of the police. We used to have a very, very effective intelligence department of the police. They call it the E-department. And you all know what happened. In a reorganisation, it was carved out of the police. Since then, the Police Force has been struggling to establish that department,” he said. The IGP called on Nigerians to imbibe the culture of having the numbers of the control rooms of the police command in their locality, or the numbers of operatives in police stations in their neighbourhood |
Source: http://www.vanguardngr.com/2014/08/boko-haram-50000-members-camp-bbog/ The Bring Back Our Girls, BBOG, campaign group has claimed that the Boko Haram has up to 50,000 members in its camp some of whom are desperate to die. The BBOG group which disclosed this in Abuja, yesterday, claimed it was quoting Mr. Ahmad Salkida, a Nigerian journalist said to be close to Boko Haram. ‘‘According to Mr. Ahmad Salkida, Boko Haram has up to 50,000 people in their camps, most of them are sad and willing to die–as suicide bombers. If we’re not mindful our selfishness in not standing up now will consume us all. For these reasons and others, our advocacy must continue; we must continue telling the truth and demanding for it to be told,’’ the BBOG said. The group urged good-spirited members of the public to join the advocacy which it said must continue until the abducted girls were returned unharmed. “We must continue telling the truth and demanding for it to be told,’’ the group added. It called on the federal government to double its effort in tackling terrorism before it gets out of hands and plunge the country into unprecedented famine. The group also raised the alarm that Nigeria stands the risk of facing food scarcity, especially beans, which Chibok is the highest producer in the country and called for urgent measures to avert the imminent danger. ‘‘Chibok for instance is the highest producer of beans in the nation; the north-east the largest producer of livestock and other produce, but due to the insurgency, there has been no farming; in due course there would be food scarcity across the nation,’’ the group said. |

Source: http://www.punchng.com/news/pdp-nwc-members-split-over-adamawa-primary/ Members of the National Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party have split into three factions over the conduct of the party’s governorship primary in Adamawa State. It was learnt that each of the factions was supporting three different aspirants for the primary, which is slated for September 6 in Yola, the state capital. While a faction was said to be rooting for the former Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, two other factions were said to be rooting the former Executive Secretary of the Universal Basic Education Commission, Alhaji Mohammed Modibbo and the Acting Governor of the state, Alhaji Ahmadu Fintiri respectively. A member of the NWC, who spoke in confidence with our correspondent, said there were many reasons given by each group for supporting a particular candidate. Those supporting Ribadu were said to have argued that it would be wrong to disgrace him from the race, after he had stomached his pride by jettisoning his presidential ambition in the opposition All Progressives Congress and defected to the PDP. It was said that the group further said that even if the party would not support his ambition, he should be granted a waiver to enable him take part in the primary. However, those opposed to the candidacy of the former Chairman of EFCC were said to have been supported by a senior national officer of the party outside the NWC (name withheld). The party leader was said to have vehemently opposed Ribadu’s candidacy. He was said to have argued that granting Ribadu and others waivers was capable or eroding the confidence of loyal members of the party. “You don’t just grant people waivers like that. It is wrong, especially now that we are entering the crucial period when people who are aggrieved could just abandon our party for the opposition,” the senior party member was said to have argued. Supporters of Modibbo, who were said to also be handful, were said to have argued that because of his large followership in the state and that he was capable of winning the election. Besides, they said that he remained the only one who had come out with a clear developmental programme for the state. For Fintiri, his supporters were said to have argued that he needed to be compensated for helping the party to regain the state from the shackles of the opposition. Besides, they added that he had brought many members of the party, who defected with the former Governor Murtala Nyako, back to the PDP. Meanwhile, the leadership of the party on Wednesday engaged in a stormy session over granting of waiver to the aspirants who recently defected to PDP from the opposition party. Apart from Ribadu, those who also need the waiver to enable them contest the governorship primary are a former Military Administrator of Lagos State, Brig.-Gen. Buba Marwa (retd.) and a former governorship candidate of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria in 2011, Mr. Marcus Gundiri. Timetable earlier released by the party indicated that the screening of the 14 governorship aspirants would hold at the party’s national headquarters in Abuja on Thursday (today). However, after the meeting of the NWC, which ended around 8:20pm, the members said they had shifted the screening till Saturday while the names of the screening panel would be released on Friday. The National Organising Secretary of the party, Alhaji Abubakar Mustapha, who stated this in a brief interview with journalists, also said the issue of waiver was receiving attention. |
millionaireman: You cannot verify? This is more reeason your story is incredible. Rochas poured 90% of Imo State capital development money in three and half years into developing the state capitaal Owerri. Have you not heard Orlu people crying that Rochas has not done the projects Orlu people voted him for? Is there any part of Nigeria, indeed Imo state, where road construction is not going on? As for sixth state in the southeast, no other area merits it more than Njaba state proposal.. @ OP your source is the fact, that's why you see this kind of backlash from the so called progressives , am sure you know them before now, its atleast 99.9% truth am from imo state I can tell you that orlu will soon surpass owerri if Rochas continues in this way |
President Goodluck Jonathan and former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo on Wednesday met in the Aso Rock Presidential Villa where the two discussed the nation’s security challenge. Obasanjo confirmed the meeting to journalists in Abeokuta, Ogun State, when he returned from Abuja. “Yes, I can confirm that I met with Mr. President on his invitation. In fact, he had wanted to come down to Abeokuta, but as a sign of respect to the Office of the President, I had to go. We had discussion on the country’s security issues and that is all,” the ex-President said. The visit came few days after the former President commended efforts of the Federal and Lagos State governments in checking the spread of the deadly Ebola Virus Disease. It also followed on the heels of weekend’s slamming of the Jonathan administration by Obasanjo, who likened the economy under the President’s watch to what obtained during the reign of the late military dictator, Gen. Sani Abacha. Obasanjo, while briefing journalists in Abeokuta on his return from Abuja said the Wednesday’s meeting with the President was purely on security matters. He said he would continue to make himself available on national issues in the interest of peace and progress of the country. After the meeting between Jonathan and Obasanjo, the President met behind closed doors with security chiefs. The service chiefs and the Inspector-General of Police, Suleiman Abba, met with the President in the early hours of the day before the commencement of the weekly Federal Executive Council meeting. It was however not clear whether the President’s meeting with the security chiefs was fallout of the meeting he had with Obasanjo. None of those who attended spoke with journalists after the meeting, which ended at about the same time the Federal Executive Council meeting started. On the recurrent Eggon/Fulani crisis in Nassarawa State, Obasanjo called on Benue and Nassarawa state governments to ensure that peace was restored to the warring communities. “There is no way such will not happen, but the two state governments should come up with lasting solutions. The farmers would want their crops to be protected, while the cattle men will also want their cattle to feed. So, the government should fashion out peaceful means to end the crisis,” he said. MISTAKES MOST SINGLES MAKE. Bonding Quickly Women often make mistakes when dating by encouraging a bond to form quickly. This need pushes them to get serious too quickly. Hold off on wedding bells and spend time getting to know each other first. Dropping Friends Women tend to drop their friends to be with the new man in their life. This closes a woman off from her social network and gives the man a lot of control and responsibility over a woman's happiness. Neglecting Goals Career goals and personal goals should be priority. A woman often put these things at risk to make things easier on the man. Women will choose to focus energy into a man's life and career instead of furthering personal goals. Trying to Change the Other Party The most common mistake women make is believing they can change a man. People don't change, so be okay with the guy as he is. Too Eager Men are often eager to please a woman who is physically attractive to them. They come across as being too eager by sending a lot of text messages asking about what the woman would like to do. Avoid sending unnecessary text messages before a date. Make a plan and stick to it. Forgetting Manners Men sometimes forget their manners. Use manners during dinner and otherwise. Eat slowly, be a good listener and talk about things that interest you both. Providing Way Too Much Information Men, who haven't been on a date in awhile, sometimes over share. Don't describe all of your life issues on the first date. It seems desperate and scary. The Oba of Lagos, Oba Rilwanu Akiolu, yesterday threatened that after the 2015 general election he would expose some Nigerians, including traditional rulers who he said are currently deceiving Nigerians. Akiolu added that the revelations would also expose the top secrets of some Nigerians who pretending that they have a clean record. The monarch, who apparently was referring to the statement credited to the Ooni of Ife, Oba Okunade Sijuwade, that only two out of the country’s renowned monarchs are free of corruption, yesterday threatened that he would, after the 2015 general election shake the country as he would come up with what he termed top secrets that cannot be disputed by those who claim to be clean. Oba Sijuwade had while responding to a statement credited to the national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Bola Tinubu, said: “Two among the three Obas mentioned by him (Tinubu) were the best friends of the late military Head of State, General Sani Abacha, and among them, one was on the pay roll of the late army general while the other successfully lifted crude oil allocated to him by Abacha. “You can ask them, Abacha gave me money on more than one occasion, but I refused. “And if you want to talk of the annulment of the 1993 presidential election won by late Chief M.K.O. Abiola, these two or three traditional rulers should be properly investigated because they were neither here nor there,” the traditional ruler said. Tinubu had while paying tribute to Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Adetona, on his 80th birthday said: “The good Obas in Yoruba land who are forthright, firm and always stand by the truth are not up to five, they are just three-Oba Awujale, Oba Akiolu and one other.” But Oba Akiolu, while delivering his address at the public presentation of the book, ‘Corruption and Human Rights Law in Africa’ written by Kola Olaniyan, said a Commissioner of Police during Abacha’s heydays knew those who were involved in shady deals but are now pretending to be clean. He said about 90 per cent of Nigerians are guilty of corruption, adding that most times, the most corrupt ones would be the first to accuse others of being corrupt. The Lagos monarch suggested that the best way to tackle the menace of corruption was for all Nigerians to be involved in the development of the country. According to him, “The monarch that made the statement that I lifted crude oil will be shocked when I make certain revelations after the 2015 general election, and I think he should close his eyes in shame because as at that time, I was still serving in the Nigerian Police Force, and I wondered how I would have such time to be involved in crude oil lifting. Akiolu therefore urged Nigerians not to put the blame for the country’s problems on President Goodluck Jonathan because the problems had long existed before he came to power. He noted that what Nigerians should do now was to join hands together and tackle the problems, saying: “We should not blame the administration of President Jonathan totally on the menace of corruption. “The problem is not caused by one person. So don’t blame President Jonathan 100 per cent for the problems in Nigeria as about 99 per cent of us are guilty of the syndrome of corruption. So everyone should be involved in the fight against corruption,” Akiolu stated. He also said: “All hands must be on deck to assist the government to bring the problems to an end. We should forget the past and face the future by contributing to the future of the nation.” Akiolu also called for collective efforts to combat the scourge of Ebola virus, insurgency and corruption, adding that 99 per cent of Nigerians are guilty of corruption. Earlier in his opening remark, a Lagos-lawyer, Femi Falana (SAN), who also chaired the occasion expressed satisfaction over the author’s efforts at coming up with the book at this time in the life of Nigeria. Falana stated further that: “Because of massive corruption in the continent today, the fundamental human rights of the people have been severely infringed upon. “What the author has done in his book is the challenge he put on all of us to think about the effect of corruption in Africa, and also, the challenge of Ebola virus is not being tackled under the provisions of the law.” Falana also described as corruption the failure of the federal government to Carter for the Nigerian Soldiers who have been sent to fight terrorism in Borno State, which led to the protest staged by their (soldiers) wives. “This is a manifestation of the collapse of the Nigerian state,” he added. Also in his opening remark, Richard Akinola said: “Corruption is not just looting of the nation’s treasury, it is also the infringement on our value system.” Source: http://www.thisdaylive.com/articles/oba-akiolu-i-ll-reveal-secrets-that-will-shake-nigeria-after-2015-elections/186705/ |

It is a common knowledge that this days women do a lot of crazy things all in the name of love without considering the fact that sometimes love may not answer all the questions, hence the need to share some of the crazy things women do because of love. 1. Living with a man who has not paid ur pride price or wedded u. And I ask " as what ?pre- wife, comcubine or what, 2. Accepting to be a second wife. If you do, you have just entered into an endless competition, I hope you are prepared for it, it may not be as easy as you thought. 3. Wearing the engagement ring of man who doesn't even know ur home, seen ur parents nor recieved their consent.are you getting married to a ghost husband? 4. Using your boyfriend's picture as your profile picture. Don't be too secure until you are now mrs.never say ever, you might regret it later, use your brain. 5. Giving your BRIDE PRIDE (virginity) to a man who has not paid your BRIDE PRICE. This is your pride as a woman, if you can please try and keep it, it pays at last.( If you can ) 6. Bathing naked with your boyfriend While there maybe need to know your future hubby well, avoid showing him every every including the size and shape, it might be to good to look good 7. Cooking food regularly n washing clothes for your boyfriend. there nothing wrong with helping your boyfriend once in a while but Once you begin to fill the vacant position of a wife, the man Will have no reason to be in a hurry to get a wife hence be reluctant in doing the needful, statistics shows that most times men end up marring a different girl due to over closeness as space is a vital part of relationship. 8. Public show of romance with your boyfriend. This automatically pushes away possible future suitors, who knows if anything happens and you two are no longer together then you would have successfully pushed away people with true affection for you 9. Disobeying your parents You know some girls even go as far as disobeying their parents for the sake of a man whom your parents don't even know or have accepted, some even elope with this guy who at the early stage may promise heaven on earth. 10. Disobeying God because of a guy. Some girls would say, I know it's wrong to have sex with him, but I love him and don't want him to get another girl, this only shows how cheap such a girl is to choose to please a man rather than God. Giving a man sex simply because he promised you marriage isn't enough. |

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Adamawa State chapter yesterday lauded the state’ s Acting Governor, Alhaji Umaru Ahmadu Fintiri, for his decision to purchase nomination form for the party’s primary preparatory to the October 11 governorship by-election . The party, however, disclosed that it had detected desperate moves by some governorship aspirants in the state who were mobilising unrecognised and fake delegates to boost their chances in the party’s primaries. The Chairman of the party in the state, Chief Joel Madaki, alleged that the aspirants were recruiting delegates through issuance of registration cards, which he described as fake. Madaki, who stated this while receiving the acting governor, who came to notify the party secretariat of his intent to contest the by-election, said the party welcomed other aspirants that would join the race but raised the alarm that fake PDP membership cards were in circulation in the state. Adding,“Yesterday we got information that there are those who bought membership cards and after that, we have been told that already fresh membership cards are being printed here in the state to induce our local government secretaries so as to include the names into our main registers with the sole aim to get the requisite three delegates that can be used during the party primaries.” “We will not take that lightly. So let them continue printing, on our parts, we have suspended membership registration,” Madaki stated Madaki pledged that the party would take drastic action on that to avoid factions in the PDP in the state or else the party may be factionalized . “I am happy about Fintiri coming to the party secretariat last time he came to us when the house impeached Nyako now he is here again to tell us his intention which I believe good thing will follow” “ Our doors as a party for everybody to come in and people have been coming in particularly from APC. “Marcis Gundiri has come, Buba Marwa has come, I was also told that Nuhu Ribadu has joined us. “ We have those who require waiver and those who do no need any waiver and Fintiri is one of those who does not require any waiver”, Madaki said. He described Fintiri as a blessing to PDP acknowledging the last time he visited the party secretariat and vowed to recover it stolen mandate from former Governor Nyako, he made good his promised and by that his second coming would also bring good tidings to PDP in the state. The Acting Governor, said he was at the party secretariat to notify the party and seek its support and endorsement for his aspiration, saying that his aspiration was based on popular demand and his commitment to continue his salvation programme for the state. “Since I assumed leadership having rescue the people of Adamawa from maladministration, the people have ask me to continue”, Fintiri said. He reaffirmed his commitment to the party and Goodluck Jonathan transformation agenda, adding that his administration and people of Adamawa had endorsed Goodluck Jonathan for 2015. There are strong indications that the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr. Aminu Tambuwal, will soon defect to the All Progressives Congress. Our correspondent learnt in Abuja on Monday that the Speaker was set to dump the Peoples Democratic Party for the APC after a nationwide consultation. Tambuwal’s spokesperson, Imam Imam, said the nationwide consultation would determine whether the Speaker would contest the Presidency or the Sokoto State governorship election in 2015. Imam, who spoke with our correspondent on the telephone, said that the Speaker was still consulting on the 2015 presidency and the defection to the APC. Imam said, “He (Tambuwal) is still consulting. The outcome of the consultation will be known at the appropriate time. He is consulting on whether he will defect to the APC. He is consulting on whether he will contest the presidency. He is also consulting on contesting governorship election.” The Speaker had on Tuesday, last week, held a closed-door meeting with former President Olusegun Obasanjo in Abeokuta, Ogun State. After the meeting, Imam said Obasanjo and Tambuwal discussed the state of the nation. He had said, “You know Baba (Obasanjo) is father to all in the country. The visit was a consultation. It was about how to move the country forward and make the country better.” On Monday, www.thecable.ng reported that Tambuwal gave the biggest hint about his planned defection on Sunday in his hometown, Tambuwal, Sokoto State. After collecting his Permanent Voter Card, Tambuwal was asked if he would defect to the APC, he responded in Hausa, “Kowa ni tsuntsu kukan gidan su yake yi,” meaning “birds of a feather flock together.” Imam, in the interview with our correspondent on Monday, explained Tambuwal’s statements in Sokoto State on Sunday. He said, “The Speaker granted an interview in Tambuwal yesterday (Sunday) after collecting his permanent voter card. When journalists asked him questions about defection and whether he would contest the Presidency, he only said that he had to consult his people and the consultation is still going on. “The outcome of the consultation with the people will be made known at the appropriate time. Every politics is local. It is the needs and aspirations of your locality that will determine the direction of your own politics.” The Speaker has enjoyed a strong support of the APC members in the House. The support of the APC members was instrumental to his victory over Mrs. Mulikat Akande-Adeola, the candidate that the PDP backed for the position of a speaker. The APC leaders that have been mentioned as having interest in the party’s presidential ticket include a former Head of State, Maj.-Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.); the Kano State Governor, Alhaji Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and a former Kwara State Governor, Senator Bukola Saraki Source: http://www.punchng.com/news/tambuwal-set-to-dump-pdp-for-apc/ |
The Minister of Health, Prof. Onyebuchi Chukwu, on Monday said that the Federal government was withholding its approval for the Anti-Ebola drug Nano-Silver produced by a Nigerian scientist in the Diaspora. Chukwu made this known when he received the U.S Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr James Entwistle, in his office in Abuja. He said that the Nano Silver drug, which was made available to the Emergency Operations Centre in Lagos on Aug. 14, did not meet basic research requirements. “The experimental drug, Nano Silver did not meet the requirements of the National Health Research Ethics Code. ‘’Accordingly, the approval was withheld by the National Health Research Ethics Committee,” Chukwu said. He said the ambassador’s visit was an opportunity to share ideas and information on Ebola virus. ‘’He is the spokesperson for the United States’ government here in Nigeria, and so he came to me as the Chief Public Health Officer of the country to exchange views with me,’’ he said. The Minister said Entwistle also visited to know if there was any new development that recently cropped up on the Ebola virus. Entwistle had commended the efforts of the Federal Government in curbing the spread of the Ebola virus in the country. He said the aim of the visit was to discuss further on the anti-Ebola cooperation between the U.S government and the Nigerian government. The ambassador also praised the work done at the emergency operation centre and the isolation centre, saying he understood that they were working hard. ‘’You have all seen the headlines over the weekend, this is an issue that we have to keep working hard on, it may be with us for a while but there are some encouraging signs. ‘’Your government is doing a good job on contact tracing; I noticed when I flew back here on Thursday night into the country, before I left the plane I filed in the questionnaire. ‘’I was very impressed because I had to put in my seat number which is a very good idea, so that if you have to trace the guy who was seating next to me you will know where I am. ’’I have been very impressed by this thing so I encourage the government of Nigeria to keep at it, which I know they will,’’ he said. Entwistle said the two countries had a broad partnership to keep collaborating, cooperating and working hard to make the world a better place. He said he could not think of a more important example of cooperation than the Ebola cooperation. On the U.S experimental drug on Ebola, Entwistle said there were no sufficient quantity for now to be given to Nigeria, therefore, the focus should be on isolation, screening and prevention. With the trends in the media recently both online and printed media, discussions at various newspaper stands not neglected, I can authoritatively say that the Norths through their constant pick on GEJ is gradually giving wide acceptance through sympathy and a feel of importance and total control of the nation Nigeria by the North, in my opinion I think the North though unknowingly is favoring Jonathan 2015 presidency Read part of Afenifere's response to NEF “By linking the electoral fortune of President Jonathan in 2015 to “Bring Back Our Girls” latest by October as well as ending Boko Haram at the time, the “elders” have just confirmed the suspicions in the land that the activities of the Islamic Sect Boko Haram is either enjoying the sponsorship of some elites of the North or at the least having their sympathy.” Afenifere was quick to spot out what it referred to as the unwillingness of the northern elders to condemn the activities of Boko Haram while focusing on the alleged failures of the president. “In all the sound and fury of the Forum, we searched in vain any outright condemnation of Boko Haram. And this has .been the pattern of most reactions from the majority of the elites of the region who always appear politically correct to the insurgents while using their activities to rattle the government. The most audacious of this perfidy is this direct put by the Northern Elders Forum.” “A traumatized country that has been held in anxiety over the fate of the abducted girls cannot but challenge these elders at this stage to appeal to their wards in Boko Haram to release the innocent young girls who now appear cannon fodders in the struggle for “we want our power back”. “A time has come to let these elites know they can no longer play the ostrich by burying their heads in the sand and think no one sees them because they are seeing no one.” “We, however, frown at the disingenuous attempt by unconscionable elites who are now dishing out two months ultimatum to end an insurgency that they prepared the atmosphere for in decades of exploitation and iniquitous dealings with their own people. Can they name one country that has defeated terror in 60 days?” “How many rulers have we had in Nigeria since 1960 and how many come from the North? Why did it not occur to any of them that the Almajiris should go to school?” “The country has suffered enough of the errors of these leaders which has now produced terror in the land, they should stopping pouring salt on the injury,” Afenifere said. Northern Elders on Jonathan •Administration is insensitive to the plight of Chibok girls •Toying with corruption •Has put politics ahead of governance •Has closed its eyes to the Boko Haram scourge in the North Afenifere on Northern Elders •They are cuddling Boko Haram •Refusing to condemn Boko Haram •Prefer to cite alleged incompetence of Jonathan •Not sincere about Chibok girlsike Reply Below are some of the numerous comments this topic gener Ated efedon2 days ago Who r dis northern elites or NEF? Source: http://www.punchng.com/news/confab-northern-delegates-reject-draft-constitution/ Northern delegates attending the ongoing National Conference have dissociated themselves from the “New Draft Constitution” made available to all the delegates by the leadership of the conference in Abuja on Monday. The northerners said that they were not privy to the emergence of the draft constitution. The proposed amendment submitted to the delegates was titled, “A bill for an act to further alter the provision of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria(1999) with the first, second and third alteration, and for related matters 2014”. It was among the three copies of the report of the conference that were handed over to the delegates on Monday when they resumed plenary. The report would be debated when the conference resumes plenary on Wednesday (today). But the northern delegates at their meeting, which lasted for several hours in Abuja on Tuesday, vowed that they would never be part of the plot to draft a new constitution for the country. Speaking with journalists after the meeting, the leader of the group, who is also the Chairman of the Arewa Consultative Forum, Alhaji Ibrahim Coomassie, alleged that some undemocratic forces were working behind the scene at the conference. He said the conference lacked legal authority, moral right and political reasons to write a new constitution. Coomassie, who was a former Inspector General of Police, said, “We the Northern Delegates to the conference wish to assure patriotic Nigerians and all lovers of democracy that we are neither privy to, nor were accessory to the emergence of the controversial ‘New Draft Constitution 2014’. “We , therefore, unequivocally disown it, and emphatically disassociate ourselves from it. Accordingly, we will have nothing to do with it, for the following legal, moral and political reasons.” Among the reasons cited by him were that delegates to the conference were not elected, and therefore lacked both legal and moral authority to draft a new constitution for the Nigerian Federation. He said the delegates were merely constituted to serve as an ad hoc advisory mechanism for the President. But the Yoruba delegates have described the allegation by their northern counterparts as a ploy to blackmail the conference. Secretary of the Yoruba delegates, Dr. Kunle Olajide, who spoke with our correspondent after the meeting of the group, said it was wrong to say that the conference was writing a new constitution. He also denied the allegation that the conference had been hijacked by some groups, saying that the leadership of the conference did not involve any of the delegates in putting the agreements reached during their plenary into one. Olajide said, “There is nothing like tenure elongation, 50 per cent derivation and such in the draft. Nobody was part of the draft; it was a surprise to all of us. “But the draft consists of all the decisions and amendments taken at the plenary. Amending the existing Constitution will lead to its mutilation.” Olajide added that the President had executive power to take issues discussed at the conference to the people via referendum. |
Source: http://www.punchng.com/news/us-to-send-untested-ebola-drug-to-liberia/ Liberia has said it will receive doses of an experimental Ebola drug to treat infected doctors in the West African country. A statement, published on the Liberian presidency’s website on Monday, said the United States had approved a request from Liberia’s President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf to ship the medicine, ZMapp, after a direct appeal to US President Barack Obama on Friday. However, a spokesperson for the US Health and Human Services (HHS) Department said US authorities had simply assisted in connecting the Liberian government with the drug’s manufacturer. “Since the drug was shipped for use outside the US, appropriate export procedures had to be followed,” the HHS spokesperson said, adding the drug company had worked directly with the Liberian government. The Liberian statement said the head of the WHO, Margaret Chan, had authorised the dispatch of additional doses of the experimental drug to Liberia to support the treatment of affected doctors. Those doses will be delivered by a WHO expert this week. A WHO spokesman did not immediately respond to requests for comment. Lewis Brown, Liberian information minister, told the Reuters news agency that it was not clear how many doses of the drug had been sent, but it could be in Monrovia within the next 48 hours. The company said in a statement on Monday that its supply had been exhausted. ZMapp, produced by California-based Mapp Biopharmaceutical, has already been used to treat two US aid workers and a Spanish priest infected with Ebola. The death toll from the world’s worst outbreak of Ebola has climbed to 1,013 people, according to figures on Monday from the World Health Organisation, which has branded the outbreak an international health emergency. The WHO has said the epidemic will likely continue for months as the region’s healthcare systems struggle to cope and has appealed urgently for funding and emergency medical staff. A WHO medical ethics committee had discussed on Monday the use of experimental drugs to tackle the world’s worst outbreak of the deadly virus. It is due to announce its findings on Tuesday. Aside from the ethics of using experimental drugs in humans, the committee was also due to consider who should receive priority for the limited supplies of the drugs. |
Source: http://9ralife.com/northern-elders-demand-chibok-girls-freedom-to-support-jonathan/ http://www.punchng.com/politics/no-chibok-girls-no-2015-re-election-northern-elders-tell-jonathan/ The Northern Elders Forum on Monday gave President Goodluck Jonathan up to October to produce the more than 200 Chibok schoolgirls abducted by the Boko Haram sect or forget his 2015 presidential re-election bid. The Alhaji Sule Maitama-led NEF noted that the warning became imperative because they were in firm conviction that the insurgency occasioned by the activities of the sect and other related security challenges posed a threat to the 2015 elections and the survival of the nation. “In the light of our firm conviction that the insurgency and related security challenges pose threats to the 2015 elections and the survival of our nation, we strongly advise President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan to bring an end to the insurgency in all its manifestations and produce the Chibok girls before the end of October 2014,” Mr. Solomon Dalung, ex-Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly, said at a press briefing in Kaduna on Monday. The former Speaker, who spoke on behalf of the Northern Elders Forum said failure of the president to produce the Chibok girls and tackle other security challenges in the land, amounts to the forfeiture of his rights to ask for another mandate to lead Nigeria beyond 2015. According to him, circumstances under which the people of Gwoza in Borno State live as if there is no government was unacceptable. He said the trend must be reversed immediately, pointing out that “in the event that President Jonathan fails to do this, Nigerians will be left with the only conclusion that he has forfeited his right to ask for our mandate beyond 2015.” He said the lack of strong will by the president to fight, coupled with the thriving corruption in his government, as well as incompetence had allowed the insurgency in the north to continue unabated. The development, had forced the Forum to resolve that most of the security challenges in some parts of the region were being carried out to weaken the North politically. At the press briefing which was also attended by former INEC Secretary, Dr. Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, Said Dalung said, “The security situation in our nation today represents the most serious threat to our individual and collective lives in our entire history. The reality is that the threats posed by what appears to be an insurgency that has many manifestations and defies a clear and consistent identity is growing due to the absence of a clear national consensus over its nature, and it solutions. “The Northern Elders Forum does not believe that the Nigerian military cannot defeat these terrorists. We also reject the notion that multiple internal security challenges such as attacks on villages, ethno-religions conflicts and banditry springing up by the day in many parts of the North are all a coincidence. “Indeed, we are convinced that most of these conflicts are being engineered to weaken the North politically and economically by interests which intend to exploit such weaknesses for electoral benefits. “It is no secret that the vast majority of Northerners lament their marginalisation, insecurity and poverty, and blame it in large part on the inability of unwillingness of its past and present leaders to utilise all access to power which they enjoy, to bring us redress and relief. “General Yakubu Gowon, Alhaji Shehu Shagari, General Muhammadu Buhari, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, General Abdussalami Abubakar, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, Architect Namadi Sambo, General T.Y Danjuma and all retired Chief Justices of Nigeria from the North represent grossly under-utilised assets of the North. The “sign of peace” is a symbolic gesture of the church, which had thrived for decades to encourage communal living among members. During the sign of peace, faithful either offer handshakes to those seated around them or hug those close to them. But during mass across Lagos State metropolis, parishioners skipped the tradition, causing drama, murmur and stare among members. Most individuals simply waved at those who sat beside them and continued with the rest of the programmes. This came as the Catholic archbishop advised members to stop the tradition to curtail the spread of the virus. Also, clerics were advised to be cautious when on sick rounds and during the anointing of the sick. The use of holy water, wherein parishioners deep their hands into a bowl outside churches, has been discontinued till further notice.
