The Federal government has scrapped the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in a bid to cut down spending. This was reached after today’s Federal Executive Council Meeting. It will be recalled that the Federal Government had scrapped Post UTME to enable JAMB carry out its statutory responsibility of conducting admissions into the nation’s Universities, Polytechnics and colleges of Education. Meanwhile, all youth corps members currently serving now will be allowed to round off their service year with full financial benefits . MEMBERS of the emergent militant group, Niger Delta Avengers (NDA) have warned other militant groups in the Niger Delta to desist from attacking soldiers and targeting aircraft with anti-aircraft missiles. Avengers had claimed responsibility for multiple attacks on oil facilities in the renewed wave of hostilities in the Niger Delta region. But new militants including the Joint Niger Delta Liberation Force (JNDLF) recently came up with a threat to launch assault missiles against aircraft. However, spokesman for the NDA, Mudoch Agbinibo in a statement yesterday, stated that the intention of the group was to cripple oil production in the region and not to shed human blood, whether military or civilian. NDA which had earlier dissociated itself from Wednesday’s killing of two soldiers and four civilians in Delta State vowed to deal with any group that refuses to heed its warning not to attack soldiers.” The high command of the avengers is calling on you not to attack any soldier and those claiming to have anti aircraft missiles should desist from targeting any aircraft. Let us be careful not to offend God in the process of trying to liberate our people from the shackles of the Nigerian government, because we need God more than anything right now. “We also need the international bodies as well. Hence, we must desist from any life threatening actions that will derail our genuine struggle for our people. All groups are hereby discouraged from indulging in harassing oil workers and soldiers. We urge you all to help any oil worker or soldier you see in distress. “The military warplanes hovering round our towns and villages have not struck a soul, or de stroyed any property. So those groups with anti aircraft missiles should dry their gunpowder. When it is time to engage the military in combat, the whole world will know they started the war, and not the Avengers. “The Niger Delta Avengers high command will pass the message round that it’s not time to engage in gun battle. So far, we have not engaged the Nigeria military in combat; despite the heavy presence of the military at the pipelines. We still find a way to carry out our actions without attacking soldiers. “The avengers will deal with any group that refuses to heed this warning, and attacks the military. The high command is calling on all groups in Rivers, Ondo, Delta, Bayelsa, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom not to indulge in any act of kidnapping and attacking of soldiers. The war is on oil installations: ‘Operation no flow of oil.’ Source: http://sunnewsonline.com/ndelta-avengers-warns-militants-against-missile-launch/

When you're in the hot seat, there's a good chance that your interviewer will turn the tables at some point and ask, "Do you have any questions for me?" When you have the floor, you'll want to take full advantage of the opportunity to show that you've done your homework and determine if the job is a good fit. But it's imperative that you put just as much thought into what you ask as you do your responses to their questions. That's because your queries may reflect your knowledge of the company, work ethic, level of professionalism, and interest in the role. "In the first interview, you'll want to be sure to ask the right questions. Ask about the job and company; not questions that can come off as self-serving and give the impression you may not be a team player or be willing to give 100%," says Amy Hoover, president of the job board Talent Zoo. She continued: "The sole purpose of the interview is to determine if you are a good fit for the company, and if it's a good fit for you. All the other issues and concerns should be addressed during negotiations after the job offer has been made." Here are 20 questions you'll want to avoid during the first job interview, as they may do more harm than good: 1. What does your company do? Questions like this will make you look unprepared. To avoid that, never ask anything that can easily be answered with a Google search. 2. What will my salary be? Hold off on the money talk. "Candidates have to walk a thin line between gathering information they need about a company and assuming they are going to get the position," says Jesse Siegal, a senior managing director at The Execu|Search Group staffing firm. Asking about money too early in the process sends the message that you're arrogant and rude. 3. Will I have to work long hours? This says, "I'm lazy." How soon can I take a holiday? Planning your time off before you've even gotten the job sends the message that you're not committed to the work. 4. Will I have an expense account? There's really no reason to ask this in the interview. Plus, it sends the wrong message. 5. How quickly could I be considered for a promotion? Focus on the job at hand. 6. What happens if I don't get along with my boss or coworkers? The interviewer may wonder if you've had problems with colleagues in the past — and they may even assume that you're difficult to work with. 7. What are benefits like? It's better to save this question for the end of the process, when it's more clear that you'll receive a job offer. "Often, companies post information about their benefits on their websites in order to attract candidates, so it may be possible to find this information without asking in an interview," Siegal says" 8. When will I be eligible for a raise? This may tell the interviewer that money is the only thing you care about. 9. Can I arrive early or leave late as long as I get my work ? Don't try to make adjustments to the schedule before you've even been offered the job. 10. Are you married?/Do you have kids?/etc. Never ask the interviewer any personal questions. 11. Do you check social-media accounts? Job seekers should always assume that their prospective employers will find and view their social- media accounts. "Asking about whether employers will check raises huge red flags for the company, who may wonder if a candidate will be a threat to the company's Siegal says. 12. Do you do background checks? This one may also make the interviewer suspicious. 13. Do you monitor emails or internet usage? This question will raise red flags — something you definitely don't want to do in the interview. 14. Will I have my own office? Does it really matter? 15. I heard this rumor about the CEO. Is it true? You should never bring gossip into a job interview. It's highly unprofessional. 16. What are grounds for termination? It's not a good idea to get the interviewer thinking about firing you before they've even hired you 17. Can I make personal calls during the day? This one says that you're not 100% focused on your work. 18. How did I do? This one puts the interviewer on the spot. If you really want feedback, wait until you get the offer or rejection, and then ask in an email what you did well or could have done better. 19. Did I get the job? You don't want to appear too eager. Bonus: The worst question of all is the one you never ask. "Not asking questions can be just as bad, or worse, than asking terrible questions," says Deborah Shane, a career author, speaker, and media consultant. "It can reveal a lot about your communication skills, personality, and confidence — and it can leave the interviewer with a bad impression of you." |
Bassey Inyang in Calabar There was pandemonium yesterday inside the banking hall of a popular bank, located at Calabar Road, in the heart of Calabar, the Cross River State capital, following a fight that pitted a soldier against four riot policemen. The incident occurred at about 11 am, causing confusion among the numerous customers who had gone to the bank to transact business. The fight forced many customers to flee from the bank when, a policeman discharged a canister of tear-gas inside the banking hall filled with customers. As some armed soldiers and armed policemen arrived, obviously on the invitation of their feuding colleagues, customers ran helter-skelter to avoid being caught in a possible crossfire. The immediate cause of the fight between the lone soldier and the four policemen could not be ascertained, but a handful of men and staff of the bank intervened and stopped the fight. When the fisticuffs ended, the soldier and some of the policemen had sustained injuries while the soldier’s uniform was torn. The policemen, who were seething with anger, left the banking hall and waited outside while the soldier remained inside the hall. Before long, some armed riot policemen and regular policemen drove-in in pickup trucks to the bank and demanded to see the soldier who was still holed up inside. However, while the policemen were busy demanding to reach the soldier, a detachment of soldiers also arrived the bank in trucks; a development that led to sporadic shooting into the air, and scampering for safety by passers-by and onlookers. But after wise counsel by the superior officers in both camps prevailed, some of the policemen and soldiers entered the banking hall to settle the rift.

President Muhammadu Buhari has finally ruled-out possibility of inviting ex-President Goodluck Jonathan for questioning over cases of corruptions, most especially, the popular Armsgate scandal during his administration, saying the ex-President has earned respect world-over for a singular act after 2015 elections. Buhari who said he was shocked to have receive Jonathan’s call even before the presidential election result was declared also said such incidence in his life remain unforgettable. Reacting to questions when some journalists interview the President during the week, Buhari revealed that he remains grateful to the former President. Hear him: “I think is one of the incidences in my life that I will never forget, I could even remember the time, it is quarter past five in the evening. He call me, of course we recognize each other voices. He said, good evening Your Excellency and I say ha Good evening Your Excellency and then a temporary silence from both sides then I heard I am calling you to congratulate you that I have conceded, that you have won the election and congratulations. “And now of course, there was absolute silence from my own side, because I haven’t recovered from the shock, because the reality of the situation is for somebody who have been a deputy governor, a governor, a vice president and then a president suddenly for six years to concede during election even before the counting was completed I think he shows some great statesmanship. “So quickly, that is why I changed my mind, I said Your Excellency, he said do you hear what I said? and i said thank you Your Excellency for your statesmanship. I think if you play back because it was recorded that is how I quickly came out of it. “And certainly for that he earned the respect not only of Nigerians, but the world over, because in the state of our development political, when change of government is done through the barrel of the gun. Then a substantive seating President conceding before even the figures are been collated.” |
