Percentages tell you efficiency / relative performance how good was the return compared to what you started with this is the point. If you are presenting a report in accounting or performance metrics to your bossed or stakeholders, that is the language you are going to be using, something they can easily understand.

Absolute dollars tell you raw scale or actual money added, it does not tell you the performance metrics, growth or efficiency.
