Nanka Inter Village Football Competition To Kick off January 3rd, 2026

All is now set for the second edition of the Emmanuel Okeke Memorial Football Tournament for Villages of Nanka Community domiciled in Orumba North LGA Anambra State.

The inter-village soccer fiesta which is bankrolled by James Nwosu Foundation will kick off on Saturday, 3rd January, 2026 with the grand finale scheduled for Sunday, 11th January, 2026.

The competition will feature seven villages of Nanka comprising of Agbiligba who were drawn in Group A alongside Ubahu and Etti while Group B is comprising of Enugwu, Umudala, Ifite and Amakor.

According to the organizers, the champions will smile home with the star prize of N1million while the first and second runners-up will each take home the sum of N700,000 and N500,000 plus other consolation prizes for the Most Valuable Player, Best Goalkeeper and the tournament's Highest Goal Scorer.

The football fiesta will be played at the Neros Stadium Nanka, Anambra State.

Nkpor Branch, Ifite Village Emerge Champions of Male, Female Versions of 2025/26 Nanka Champions League

Nkpor Branch are champions of the 2025/2026 edition of the annual Nanka Champions League bankrolled by Professor Poly Emenike.

Nkpor Branch defeated Ota Branch by a lone goal scored by Ikenna Okoye in the 23rd minute from a corner kick in a pulsating contest played on Thursday, 1st January, 2026 at the Neros Stadium Nanka to take home the star prize of N1.5 million while Ota Branch settled for the second prize of N900 thousand. Bayelsa Branch who defeated Students Union Branch 3-2 in the third and fourth placed playoffs took home N600 thousand with Students Union Branch settling for the fourth prize of N150 thousand.

Ekene Asiegbu of Ota Branch emerged as the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the competition, Innocent Ifedili of Nkpor Branch was adjudged the Best Goalkeeper while Obinna Ozue of Students Union Branch took the award for the Highest Goal Scorer with a total of 6 goals.

In the second edition of the Nanka Women's Champions League, Chinecherem Nwankwo's goal in injury time ensured Ifite Village defeated Ubahu Village by a lone goal for the star prize of N1million as Ubahu Village went home with the second prize of N500 thousand. Amakor Village obliterated Umudala Village by three goals to nil in the third and fourth placed playoffs to take home N300 thousand as the latter settled for N150 thousand.

The individual awards in the female version saw Ujunwa Okoli of Ifite Village clinching the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award, Vivian Ezeokeke of Ifite Village was the Best Goalkeeper of the championship, Best Coach award went to Chidubem Okoli of Ifite Village while the Highest Goal Scorer award was clinched by Ifunanya Obi of Ubahu Village having scored six goals in the competition.

Reacting after the grand finale, Chief Prof. Poly Emenike congratulated the sides for emerging the winners of the annual biggest grassroots football competition in the state which has churned out professional footballers now plying their trade in top football clubs in the land and abroad. He assured of his continuous unwavering support towards the success story of the annual landmark football competition.

On his part, Chief Olisa Chinedu (Eze Omeogo), sponsor of Hilltop Queens Ubahu eulogized Prof. Poly Emenike for his immense contributions and support to football growth and development in the community and state at large. Chief Olisa highlighted the impact of football in engaging the youths especially the female gender. The Nanka Chieftain assured of his support towards the growth of Women's football in Nanka community and by extension the Local Government.

Highlights of this year's Nanka Champions League was presentation of the Distinguished Service Award (SDSA) to Prof. Poly Emenike by Chigozie Chukwuleta bagged during the 60th year anniversary celebration of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) and ceremonial kickoff of the grand finale performed by Chief Chinedu Olisa.

Umuideke Village will face Uruolu Village in the grand finale of the ongoing second edition of Amalukwue Football Tournament in Akwaeze Community domiciled in Anaocha Local Government Area of Anambra State.

To qualify for the final match, Umuideke defeated Umuezeani emphatically by two goals to nil to secure there final place just like they did in the first edition while their opponents in the upcoming finale, Uruolu saw off defending champions, Mgbuwa 2-1 in the second semi final match played at Akwaeze community playground.

The ongoing second edition of the annual football programme is being bankrolled by Chief Benjamin Onyeka Amalukwue (Dim Maduaburochukwu na Akwaeze) aimed at promoting sporting excellence among the youths of Akwaeze community.

The football fiesta which kicked off from 25th December, 2025 will see the grand finale holding on Friday, 2nd January, 2026. A total of six villages comprising of the defending champions, Mgbuwa, Umuideke, Uruonyili, Umutu, Umuezeani and Uruolu are jostling for honours.

The competition will see the new champions take home the star prize of N500,000 while the first and second runners-up will also smile home with the sum of N300,000 and N200,000 respectively while there will be awards for the Best Goalkeeper, Most Valuable Player (MVP) and the Top Scorer.

The Anambra State Football Association (ANSFA) have announced that registration for participation at the upcoming 2026 President Federation Cup has officially commenced and will end on Thursday, 8th January, 2026.

According to the ANSFA Secretary, Ralph Nweke, Male Teams who wish to be part of the 2026 Federation Cup will register with the sum of two hundred thousand naira (N200,000) while Female Teams are eligible for participation having made payment of a registration fee of one hundred and fifty thousand naira (N150,000).

This was further revealed in a memo to affiliate clubs and academics dated 28th November, 2025 endorsed by the association's scribe with the caption, "2026 Federation Cup Registration Guidelines."

The letter reads, "The Anambra State Football Association wishes to formally inform all affiliate football clubs and academics that the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has released the guidelines for the registration of the 2026 Federation Cup competition.

"Please take note of the approved registration fees as follows, Male Teams - two hundred thousand naira (N200,000) only and Female Teams - one hundred and fifty thousand naira (N150,000) only. Kindly be reminded that the above fees do not include the 2026 Affiliation Fees.

"We are also pleased to notify you that registration has commenced and will close on the 8th of January, 2026. All interested clubs and football academies are encouraged to begin the process early to avoid late rush. For further enquires, clubs may visit the ANSFA Secretariat, Awka, or contact the FA Secretary directly on 08035497968," the memo read.

Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, on Monday, 29th December, 2025 celebrated the former and 6th Substantive Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Charles Okechukwu Esimone as he marked his 55th birthday.

The celebration which was held at his palatial home of Akwaeze in Anaocha Local Government Area of Anambra State had the University community comprising of council members, Deans, Directors, HODs, principal officers and other staff members as well as friends and well-wishers throng the residence of Prof. Esimone with birthday cakes and gifts of various forms all in appreciation of his milk of kindness and positive strides during his time as the Vice-Chancellor.

An elated Prof. Esimone in his words of appreciation, thanked the members of the University community, friends and well-wishers for choosing to celebrate the moment with him at his country home of Akwaeze. Prof. Esimone charged the staff members to continue to work towards projecting the positive image of the institution and raising its visibility to the global community.

The sixth substantive VC while also delivering his new year message prayed that the year 2026 will usher in peace and divine protection for the people as the citizens look forward to a better Nigeria in all spheres of human endeavour. The scholar also called on the citizens of the nation to be patient, work hard and not to give up on their dreams.

Prof. Esimone, a renowned Professor of Biopharmaceutics and Pharmaceutical Biotechnology, served as UNIZIK Vice-Chancellor from 2019 to 2024.

During his tenure, Prof. Esimone implemented several strategic initiatives, including Project 200, aimed at propelling UNIZIK into the top 200 universities globally. Under his leadership, the university ascended to become the fourth best university in Nigeria and 31st in Sub-Saharan Africa.

The Onwa December Novelty Match was played on Monday, December 29, 2025, at the Awka City Stadium, featuring a thrilling encounter between Anambra Selected Ex-Rangers and Anambra All Stars.

The match ended with Anambra Selected who played for Rangers Int'l FC of Enugu emerging victorious, defeating Anambra All Stars 4-2 via penalty shootouts after the game ended goalless at the end of regulation time.

The football show which was the first of its kind in the state was the initiative of the Chairman of the Anambra State Football Association (ANSFA), Chief Chikelue Iloenyosi with immense support from the President of Akubudike Foundation and MD/CEO Akubudike Energy Ltd, High Chief Jim Martins Nwabueze (Agubuzo na Dunukofia) who also donated a giant trophy for the colourful event.

Reacting after the novelty match, the Executive Governor of Anambra State, H.E. Prof. Chukwuma Soludo who witnessed the match, rewarded players with cash gifts for their outstanding performance. Gov. Soludo thanked Chief Nwabueze for his support to the noble initiative while assuring that the novelty match will now be an annual event during festive periods as football is the king of sports.

Gov. Soludo also affirmed that the programme was also put in place to encourage former professional footballers and to serve as a platform in promoting local talent. The number one citizen of the state assured of his continuous support towards sports growth and development in the state.

The Onwa December Novelty Match is part of the Ọnwa Dezemba festival, a month-long celebration aimed at showcasing Anambra's rich cultural heritage and entertainment offerings.

The festival, launched by Governor Soludo, features various events, including music, comedy, sports and cultural performances across different parts of the state.

Onyeka Obiedelu of Umuezeani Village of Akwaeze has emerged as the overall winner in the first Akwaeze Marathon Race Competition held at Akwaeze community domiciled in Anaocha Local Government Area of Anambra State being sponsored by Chief Benjamin Onyeka Amalukwue (Dim Maduaburochukwu na Akwaeze).

Obiedelu finished in a time of 55 minutes and 18 seconds to claim the first prize of N250,000 seeing off the challenge from Chibueze Onyene of Uruolu Village who finished second in a time of 55 minutes and 32 seconds to take home the second prize of N100,000 while Chiemelie Elobe of Mgbuwa Village came third in a time of 55 minutes and 43 seconds.

In the female category, Ndidiamaka Eweni of Umuideke Village came tops in a time of 1 hour 25 minutes and 32 seconds for the star prize of N250,000; Chinenye Uzochukwu of Uruolu Village came in on second position to smile home with the prize of N100,000 while Ndirika Okoye finished third to earn the prize of N50,000.

According to Akwaeze Sports Committee, a total of forty athletes comprising of 25 male and 15 females featured in the 20 kilometre marathon race which saw the participants commencing the race from Afor Market Akwaeze traversing through Obeledu, Neni, Akwaeze and concluding at Akwaeze Town Field.

Reacting after the marathon race, Chief Amalukwue informed that the Marathon Race is part of his sponsored ongoing Sports programme for Akwaeze community comprising of marathon, football and traditional wrestling geared towards engaging the youths of Akwaeze community through sports, showcasing their talents as well as serving as a platform for entertainment for the community this festive period.

Chief Amalukwue stated that the Marathon Race has come to stay and will be an annual sports programme for his community which will grow bigger in subsequent editions. The philanthropist turned sports administrator also applauded the participants for showcasing their talents and displaying spirit of sportsmanship while also commending the sports committee for their role in ensuring a hitch free and successful race.

On his part, the Chairman of Akwaeze Sports Committee and Handball Coach, Maduka Okoye eulogized Chief Amalukwue for his support to sports development in Akwaeze and Anaocha LGA, he praised the participants for their fighting spirit and displaying their sporting prowess during the course of the 20-kilometre marathon race.

Highpoints of the occasion was presentation of prize monies to the top three runners of both categories as well as consolation prizes to the other top 10 participants in the marathon race.

Ukpo Community have emerged Champions and on top of the Medals' Table of 2025 Dunukofia Games Festival which came to a crescendo on Sunday, 29th December, 2025 at the St. Mary's High School field, Ifitedunu.

Ukpo Community were first on the medals' log with a total of 14 medals comprising of 10 Gold, 2 Silver and 2 Bronze while Ifitedunu finished second on the medals' table with 4 Gold, 2 Silver and 3 Bronze medals as Nawgu came third with a total of 7 Medals comprising of 3 Gold, 3 Silver and 1 Bronze.

In a colourful grand finale marked with the finals of the male football event, Ifitedunu defeated Ukpo 5-4 via penalty shootouts after the game ended 1-1 at regulation time with goals scored by Chibuike Udobi in the 8th minute for Ifitedunu while Ifeanyi Amaku restored parity in the 69th minute for Ukpo.

Ifitedunu smiled home with the sum of N1million for winning the male football event while Ukpo Community and Tenant A team settled for second and third prizes worth N500,000 and N300,000 respectively. Chibuike Udobi of Ifitedunu claimed the gong for the highest goal scorer with 8 goals, Ifeanyi Amaku of Ukpo was the Most Valuable Player (MVP) while Onyeka Machie of Ifitedunu emerged as the Best Goalkeeper.

In the female football event, Ukpo ladies were champions taking home the star prize of N500,000, Umudioka queens went home with the sum of N300,000 for finishing second while Ifitedunu settled for the third prize of N200,000. Chisom Chukwunulu of Umudioka with 4 goals emerged as the Highest Goal Scorer, Amanda Okonkwo of Ukpo was voted as the Most Valuable Player while the Best Goalkeeper award went to Odinaka Onyeamu of Ukwulu community.

In Volleyball, Ukpo had a clean sweep in both male and female categories claiming the prize of N500,000 each for both categories. Ifitedunu finished second in the male category with the sum of N300,000 while Tenant B were third and got N200,000 for their exploits as Tenant A and Umudioka came second and third in the female category with a prize of N300,000 and N200,000 respectively. The most valuable player for the male and female categories went to Izuchukwu Obidike of Ukpo and Chidinma Omaghali of Tenant A team respectively.

For the game of Tennis, Stanley Ikegbunam of Umudioka came first to take home N100,000 in the male category, Arthur Ofoegbu of Tenant A came second with a prize of N50,000, Anthony Eze of Tenant B came third and took home N30,000. Mmesoma Ezrenwokolo won gold for Ukpo in the female category with a prize of N100,000, Joyce Ege was second for Nawgu to take home N50,000 while Chisom Maduaakonam of Ukwulu came third claiming the third prize of N30,000.

In his reaction, the Chairman of Dunukofia Local Government Area, Hon. Barrister Chijioke Ozumba thanked Gov. Soludo for providing an enabling environment and his immense support to the local government through his developmental strides. Hon. Ozumba also thanked top personalities in the council for their support towards his administration, he also commended the youths of the various communities for exhibiting spirit of sportsmanship throughout the course of the games while assuring that the 2026 edition will eclipse this year's edition.

On his part, the former Chairman of Dunukofia LGA, Hon. Augustine Onyemaobi attributed the success of the games festival to the homogeneity existing in the local government, he commended Hon. Ozumba for his visionary leadership in taking the LGA to the next level. Also speaking, Chief Dr. Vincent Udobi showered encomiums to Hon. Ozumba for his wonderful exploits using sports as a symbol of unity and platform for engaging the youths of the various communities in the local government.

Ukpo Community also took home the prize of N500,000 for emerging tops on the Medals' Table, other communities who made impact during the games festival were Umudioka who finished fourth on the log with 2 Gold, 2 Silver and 5 Bronze; Tenant A came fifth with a total of 9 medals consisting of 1 gold, 6 silver, 2 bronze; Umunnachi were sixth with 1 gold, 4 silver, 1 bronze; 7th was Tenant B with 1 gold, 2 silver and 4 bronze while 8th on the log was Ukwulu with 1 silver and 3 bronze medals.

The colourful grand finale also featured presentation of a special portrait and memorabilia to the Mayor of Dunukofia, Hon. Ozumba by the Supervisor for Youth and Sports Development, Hon. Harrison Nwegwu and decoration of the various winning teams with cheques, trophies and medals.

Umuakwu Village will engage Osili Village in the grand finale of the ongoing 2025 Enugwu-Ukwu Unity Cup competition.

Umuakwu Village defeated Uruokwe Village by 3 goals to 2 in the semi final match played at St. Anthony's Catholic Parish pitch on Saturday, 27th December, 2025 to book their place in the final while Osili Village had to rely on penalty shootouts winning 8-7 against Avomimi Village after the game went into sudden death at the end of regulation time at 1-1.

The final match, of the ongoing 2025 Enugwu-Ukwu Unity Cup being bankrolled by Chief Dozie Okoye (Oba Ikpeamaego) in collaboration with the Enugwu-Ukwu Community Development Union (ECDU) and the Enugwu-Ukwu Youth Council (EYC), will be played on Friday, 2nd January, 2026 at Orabuike Primary School field Enugwu-Ukwu.

A total of 18 Villages entered the contest to battle for honours at the 2025 edition of the prestigious annual Enugwu-Ukwu Unity Cup holding from 6th December, 2025 to 2nd January, 2026 with matches being played at Orabuike Primary School, Enugwu-Ukwu and St. Anthony's Catholic Parish, Enugwu-Ukwu.

The winner of the football fiesta will take home the star prize of N1million while the first and second runners-up will go home with the sums of N500 thousand and N300 thousand respectively.

All is now set for the upcoming Onwa December Novelty Football Match organized by the Anambra State Football Association (ANSFA) scheduled to hold on Monday, 29th December, 2025 at the Awka City Stadium.

The upcoming novelty match being organized by the ANSFA under the leadership of its Chairman, Chief Chikelue Iloenyosi (D'General) will see Anambra Selected who previously played for Rangers Int'l FC of Enugu trade tackles with Anambra State All Stars by 2pm.

The novelty match is geared towards creating convivial moments during the festive period as well as rekindling the nostalgia for football followership in Anambra State.

The special guest for the novelty match is His Excellency, Prof. Charles Soludo, Executive Governor of Anambra State who is expected to captain the Anambra All Stars side while the Deputy Governor of Anambra State, His Excellency, Dr. Onyekachi Ibezim is also expected to be in action on the day.

The ANSFA has called on football fans in the state to throng the Awka City Stadium to make the event a memorable one.

Last year's runners-up, Umuideke Village obliterated Umutu by three goals to nil in the opening fixture of the second edition of Amalukwue Football Tournament in Akwaeze Community.

The opening match which was played on Christmas day, 25th December, 2025 at the Akwaeze Sports Arena had the people of Akwaeze community turn up in their numbers to witness the entertaining football fiesta.

The second edition of the annual football programme is being bankrolled by Chief Benjamin Onyeka Amalukwue (Dim Maduaburochukwu na Akwaeze) aimed at promoting sporting excellence among the youths of Akwaeze community domiciled in Anaocha Local Government Area of Anambra State.

All is now set for the 1st Akwaeze Marathon Competition scheduled to hold on Monday, 29th December, 2025 at Akwaeze community domiciled in Anaocha Local Government Area of Anambra State.

The upcoming 1st Akwaeze Marathon is one of the tripartite sporting programme of the ongoing 2025 Eze Amalukwue Sports Carnival featuring football, athletics and traditional wrestling.

The 1st Akwaeze Marathon Competition is the brainchild of the sponsor Chief Benjamin Onyeka Amalukwue (Dim Maduaburochukwu na Akwaeze).

In an exclusive interview session on Monday, 15th December 2025 on ABS TV/Radio Sports, Chief Amalukwue stated that the upcoming Marathon Race is part of the ongoing Sports programme for Akwaeze community geared towards engaging the youths of the community through sports, showcasing their talents as well as serving as a platform for entertainment for the community this festive period.

Chief Amalukwue admonished the participants to ensure they exhibit the spirit of sportsmanship during the course of the marathon race and other sporting competitions while assuring of his continuous support towards sports development in the community.

According to Akwaeze Sports Committee, the marathon race which will commence by 7am will have its take off at Afor Market with the finishing point at Akwaeze Sports Arena.

Uruokwe will square up against Uruekwo for the final ticket into the last four with the cracker scheduled to hold on Friday, 26th December, 2025.

A total of 18 Villages entered the contest to battle for honours at the 2025 edition of the prestigious annual Enugwu-Ukwu Unity Cup holding from 6th December, 2025 to 2nd January, 2026 with matches being played at Orabuike Primary School, Enugwu-Ukwu.

Ifitedunu Community will trade tackles against Ukpo in the finals of the male football event of the ongoing 2025 Dunukofia Games Festival scheduled for Sunday, 28th December, 2025 at the St. Mary's High School Ifitedunu while Ukwulu is expected to slug it out with Tenant-A in the third and fourth placed playoffs.

Umudioka Community on the other hand booked their place in the grand finale of the female soccer event and will wait for the winner of the clash between Ukpo versus Ifitedunu after seeing off Tenant-A in the first semi-final match.

Elsewhere in other sporting events, Ukpo will engage Ifitedunu in the final match of the male volleyball event to decide the winner after Tenant-B had earlier defeated Nawgu in the third and fourth placed playoffs. In the female category, Umudioka clinched the bronze medal while Ukpo will tango with Umudioka in the finals to see who will become the champion.

In Tennis, Umudioka were crowned champions in the male category ahead of Tenant-A and Tenant-B who returned in second and third positions respectively. In the female version, Ukpo showed their supremacy by emerging as the champions to see off a contest from Nawgu and Ukwulu who came second and third respectively.

According to the organizers of the festival, Dunukofia Local Government Area will host its first ever games collage which will come up on Saturday, 27th December, 2025. The anticipated Games Collage will feature cultural activities and recreational games comprising of board games such as table tennis, snooker, whot, ludo, draught and ncho while events such as ikpo oga, bottle flip, soda test challenge, rope skipping, okoso amongst others are expected to add colour to the programme.

In a chat with Sports Journalists, the Supervisor for Youth and Sports Development at Dunukofia LGA, Harrison Nwegwu informed that the upcoming games collage will kickoff by 9am at the Dunukofia Local Government Council Secretariat which promises to be fun-filled, exciting and entertaining, with various local foods and drinks including fiofio, roasted yam, asoki, okpa, zobo, tigernuts, and more, all lined up for participants and spectators during the day.

Awka Angels FC finished as the first runners-up in the just concluded 2025 edition of the Judith Chime Championship for female professional football clubs in the country.

Awka Angels lost to Rangers Int'l FC Ladies 2-1 in the final match played on Saturday, 20th December, 2025 at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu to finish as the first runners-up ahead of Giant Empress FC who came third in the championship.

Ebere Nzuko of Awka Angels was adjudged as the Best Goalkeeper of the tournament while the skilful Oluebube Keke also of Awka Angels FC emerged as the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the female football contest.

The Proprietor of Awka Angels FC, Alex Nzekwe described the feat by the ladies as a product of hard work, determination and resilience by the team. The football administrator assured that Awka Angels FC will continue to do their best in uplifting female football in the land.

A total of 18 professional female football clubs drawn across various states in the nation featured in the two-week long championship.

According to the spokesperson of the Judith Chime Foundation, the competition is geared towards promoting the growth of female football in Nigeria as well as unearthing great female football talents from the grassroots.

The West African Action Network on Small Arms (WAANSA) Nigeria on Thursday, 18th December, 2025 paid a courtesy visit to the Vice-Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, (UNIZIK) Awka, Prof. Ugochukwu Bond Stanley Anyaehie.

The visit by the team of WAANSA Nigeria led by the Regional first Vice-President, Martin Igwe was to discuss ways of promoting peace in the institution, nipping in the bud any form of violence and enhancing security in the ivory tower.

In his address during the courtesy visit, Mr. Igwe congratulated Prof. Anyaehie on his appointment as the Vice-Chancellor of the institution. He disclosed that WAANSA Nigeria is a network of non-governmental organization in West Africa working towards sustaining peace, eliminating pockets of violence and halting the menace of illegal proliferation of small arms within the region.

The WAANSA Nigeria regional first Vice-President also revealed that the organization is liasing with the National University Commission (NUC) and Committee of Vice-Chancellors on identifying threats of insecurity in University communities capable of distracting and disrupting academic activities. He also stated that the organization as part of the visit is seeking for support and collaboration to compliment efforts of the institution towards ending any form of violence in UNIZIK and South East tertiary institutions.

Responding, UNIZIK Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Anyaehie thanked the team from WAANSA Nigeria for the visit and their role in tackling security challenges in the region. Prof. Anyaehie averred that security is fundamental for any firm that seek to make meaningful advancement in achieving her set goals and objectives.

Prof. Anyaehie while affirming that the greatest form of security is preventive stated that his administration will always ensure that there is palpable peace in the institution. The UNIZIK VC assured of the support of the institution towards the objective of WAANSA Nigeria in promoting peace and orderliness in UNIZIK and other tertiary institutions in the region.

The UNIZIK Male Volleyball side defeated COOU Igbariam Male Volleyball team by 3 sets to 1 (25-27, 25-7, 25-9, 25-7) in the grand finale played on Tuesday evening while ESUT Male Volleyball side saw off their UNN Male counterparts by 2 sets to nil (27-25, 25-19).

In the female category, UNIZIK Female VB side accumulated a total of 6 points to come tops ahead of second placed COOU (Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University), Igbariam with 5 points while ESUT (Enugu State University of Technology, Enugu); MOUAU (Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, Abia State) and University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN), Enugu State finished third, fourth and fifth with 3 points, 1 point and 0 point respectively.

A total of five Universities are jostling for honours as the fourth edition of the 'Spike It Awka' Volleyball Invitational Championship has kicked off at the Volleyball Court of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK) Awka.

The annual volleyball program geared towards promoting the team game of Volleyball in the South Eastern States through the engagement of tertiary institutions in the zone is a pet project of Prof. Dereck Akachukwu Orji.

This year's competition which is bankrolled by Raba Maja Global Limited is holding from Sunday, 14th December to Wednesday, 17th December, 2025.

The volleyball championship for both male and female student-athletes is featuring Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU), Igbariam; Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka; Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT); University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN) and Michael Okpara University of Agriculture Umudike (MOUAU).

Umuatuora/Umuokpalanri Village have won two of their group matches to display early dominance in group A at the ongoing Enugwu-Ukwu Unity Cup and look set to secure a quarter final spot needing just a draw in their last group match against Enuagu Village.

Umuatuora/Umuokpalanri defeated Urukpaleke in their first group match 1-0 while also seeing off Orofia Village 3-1 in their second group match.

In other results in Group A, Enuagu defeated Orofia 3-1 while Urukpaleke obliterated Enuagu 4-1. In Group B, Orji beat Uruogbo 1-0, Umuakwu got the better of Avomimi by recording a 2-1 win while Avomimi came back to winning ways by whitewashing Uruogbo 5-1.

In Group C, Osili won Urunnebo 2-1, Uruokwe got the better of Urualor by two unreplied goals. In Group D, the clash between Awovu versus Ire ended in a 1-1 draw while Uruekwo Village clash against Umuatulu/Akiyi ended in a 2-2 draw to ensure the group is very open for the four teams.

Ebe Warriors took home the star prize of N1million while Sunday Sunday FC settled for the second prize of N500,000 with Wood Marshal FC and Nimo All Stars settling for the third and fourth prizes of N300,000 and N200,000 respectively after Wood Marshal FC had earlier defeated Nimo All Stars by a lone goal in the third and fourth placed playoffs held on Saturday, 13th December, 2025 at the Nnewi High School football pitch.

Nnaemeka Ozougwu of Ebe Warriors emerged as the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the competition with a prize of N50,000; Benedict Chime of Peace FC won the highest goal scorer award scoring a total of 7 goals to claim the N50,000 prize money while Senior Select Kings (SSK) FC took N200,000 prize money for emerging as the best behaved team of the competition.

The third edition of the competition which commenced on Saturday, 18th of October, 2025 with a total of 17 teams was bankrolled by the MD/CEO of KM Lubricants, Chief Kenneth Maduakor in partnership with makers of Budweiser for veteran footballers of 35 years and above.

Metropolitan College of Onitsha maintained their dominance to emerge champions of the 2025 edition of the Dozek Inter School Football Championship sponsored by Chief Donatus Nzekwesi, Chairman/CEO of Dozek Group Realtors and an old boy of the Christ the King College (CKC).

Metropolitan College saw off a tough challenge from Modebe Memorial Secondary School Onitsha seeing them off 6-5 via penalties after the clash ended 1-1 at regulation time in the grand finale played at Justice Chuba Ikpeazu Stadium, Onitsha.

Earlier in the third and fourth place playoffs, Prince Memorial Secondary School Onitsha won Christ the King College (CKC) 3-0 to ensure they secure a podium finish in form of the third prize of the competition.

For their heroics, Metropolitan College smiled home with the sum of N150,000 while Modebe School and Prince School who came second and third took home N100,000 and N50,000 respectively.

The 2025 edition of the Dozek Inter School Football Championship had eight secondary schools in Onitsha jostling for honours courtesy of a noble sports initiative of Ex-Rangers player and former board member of the Anambra State Football Association (ANSFA) Emeka Ralph (Sarafi).

To get to the final stage, Ebe Warriors saw off Wood Marshal FC 5-4 via penalties after the first semi-final match ended in a scoreless affair at regulation time while Sunday Sunday FC progressed to the last stage having defeated Nimo All Stars 2-1 in the second semi-final match.

The third and fourth placed playoffs will be played on Saturday, 13th December, 2025 at the playing pitch of Nnewi High School Nnewi.

The third edition of the competition which commenced on Saturday, 18th of October, 2025 is being bankrolled by the MD/CEO of KM Lubricants, Chief Kenneth Maduakor in partnership with makers of Budweiser for veteran footballers of 35 years and above.

The winner of this year's Budweiser/KM Lubricants Veterans' Cup will go home with the star prize of One million naira while the first runners-up, second runners-up and fourth placed teams will go home with the sum of five hundred thousand naira (N500,000), three hundred thousand naira (N300,000) and two hundred thousand naira (N200,000) respectively.

Umudioka Community obliterated Umunnachi by 3 goals to nil on Tuesday, 9th December, 2025 in the female football event of the ongoing 2025 edition of the Dunukofia Games Festival.

An own goal and goals scored by Chinaza Anoliefo and Favour Chukwunulu ensured Umudioka recorded an emphatic victory to progress to the next stage as Umunnachi have been knocked out of the competition.

The win showcased Umudioka community's supremacy in female soccer as they continue to be the Boogeyman of Umunnachi having knocked them out of the competition at this stage during the 2024 edition.

Elsewhere at the ongoing festival, Nawgu showed class in Volleyball as the male side saw off Umudioka by two sets to nil in game of three while their female side also lived up to expectations recording a similar scoreline against Ukwulu in a pulsating contest.

In other Volleyball results, Umudioka male volleyball side upended Ifitedunu by two sets to nil while Ukpo saw off their opponents by two sets to nil in the male fierce contest.

The Vice-Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, Professor Ugochukwu Bond Stanley Anyaehie, played host to a delegation from the Faculty of Engineering on Monday, 8th December, 2025 at his office.

In his address during the courtesy visit, the Dean of the Faculty, Engr. Professor Ugochukwu Okonkwo stated that the visit was to officially congratulate and welcome the new VC to the institution as well as to inundate him on the Faculty's activities, programmes and achievements.

Prof. Okonkwo highlighted the achievements of the Faculty under his watch and hitherto his predecessors, the scholar enumerated the challenges of the Faculty principal among them being the quest for the completion of the central block which has been in a state of comatose for over 15 years while also pointing out lack of teaching staff in some departments, urgent need for equipping of departmental laboratories and workshops as well as limited office blocks and classrooms.

In his response, UNIZIK VC, Prof. Anyaehie promised to assist the Faculty in addressing her challenges, affirming the faculty's importance to his administration and the University at large. Prof. Anyaehie stated that teaching staff of the Faculty have the capacity to offer consultation services to the community while urging the Faculty to develop certification programmes that will empower students of Engineering as well as generate funding for the institution.

Prof. Anyaehie harped on the essence of patents for some of the Faculty's products while also emphasizing on promotion of indigenous production of materials.

Speaking during the visit, the Director of CACORP, Dr. Okoroji expressed the group's delight at the Vice-Chancellor's appointment, stating that it was divinely timed and a welcome development to the progress of the institution. The Director of CACORP stated that the centre is focused on empowering future agricultural innovators and community figures in Nigeria while also functioning as a center for innovative research, practical training, and collaborative projects that are revolutionizing the future of agriculture and rural community advancement.

Dr. Okoroji highlighted the achievements CACORP including the cultivation of 2,000 plantain saplings on a 20-hectare farmland in Umueje from May 2025 to the present and 800 Malaysian hybrid coconut seedlings, construction of a well and striking a partnership with the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (FMAFS).

In his reaction, UNIZIK Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Anyaehie thanked the delegation for the visit while also commending the centre for the work done thus far in promotion the agricultural sector. Prof. Anyaehie urged the centre to explore ways to create a sustainable plan to promote their programmes as well as utilizing the land resources available to them for generation of funds for the centre and the University at large.

Prof. Anyaehie also assured of his support to the centre for their programmes and activities while thanking the team for his appointment as Chairman of the Board.

Highlights of the courtesy visit was the presentation of a bag made from coconut husk and a customized T-shirt to the Vice-Chancellor and planting of coconut tree performed by the Vice-Chancellor.

Prince Okumagba Inaugurates Anambra State Chapter of Super Eagles Supporters Club

The National President of the Super Eagles Supporters Club (SESC) Worldwide, Prince Vincent Okumagba on Saturday, 6th December, 2025 officially inaugurated the Anambra State Chapter of the club at a grand ceremony held at the Onitsha Sports Club, GRA, Onitsha.

The inauguration and launching marked a significant milestone in the expansion of SESC’s nationwide network in underscoring Prince Okumagba’s commitment to uniting Nigerian football fans across all regions.

The colourful event attracted local football enthusiasts, sports administrators, and notable figures from Anambra’s football community, including representatives from professional football clubs in the state.

In his address, the SESC National President, Prince Okumagba while expressing excitement at the official inauguration of the SESC Anambra State Chapter informed that the club’s mission is to promote Nigerian football and serve as the “12th man” for the Super Eagles.

The number one supporter of the Super Eagles charged the Anambra State chapter to increase the number of supporters emanating from the state. He also revealed that the Chairman of the Anambra State chapter will be part of the supporters contingent from Nigeria that will travel to Morocco for the AFCON.

In his inaugural address, the Anambra State Chairman of SESC, Chief Kingsley Uduh thanked Prince Okumagba for the special visit geared towards the inauguration of the SESC Anambra State Chapter. Chief Uduh thanked the members of the SESC Anambra State Chapter for the confidence reposed in him towards piloting the affairs of the club.

The SESC State Chairman urged the members to think deeply about football in Nigeria as the Super Eagles need to fly high again at the upcoming AFCON. He called for support and commitment from the club members in moving the Super Eagles forward.

In his remarks, the Chairman of the Anambra State Sports Development Commission (ASSDC), Hon. Patrick Estate Onyedum, represented by the Director of Sports at the ASSDC, Chief Emeka Obidimma welcomed the SESC National President to Anambra State.

The ASSDC boss eulogized his prowess in seeing out a very formidable supporters club in Nigeria. Hon. Onyedum assured of ASSDC support to Chief Uduh's led administration recounting his immense support to sports development in the state.

Onyedum also prayed for further inclusion of Anambra State Sports in the scheme of National affairs while holding firmly to his view that Anambra state has always and will always play a huge role in sporting affairs in Nigeria.

On her part, the Vice-Chairman, SESC, Anambra State chapter, Mrs Ada Edward, led with the official ushering in of the National President of SESC Worldwide. Mrs Edward took a walk down memory lane, recalling her first entrance into the supporters club scene, dating back over 30 years ago which coincidentally was her first contact with the National President of the SESC.

The SESC Anambra State Vice-Chairman expressed optimism, that her experience will further garnish the efforts of the new executives of the Anambra chapter while plans will be made to retain consistency. She also thanked the members of the supporters club who came from Lagos while also commending the ASSDC for their support.

The colourful event also featured presentation of Super Eagles Supporters Club apparels by Prince Okumagba to the Chairman of SESC Anambra State Chapter, musical entertainment by the SESC band, cutting of ceremonial cake and presentation of SESC souvenirs from the state Chairman to top dignitaries who witnessed the occasion.

Also present during the inauguration is the Chairman of the Anambra State Football Association (ANSFA), Chief Chikelue Iloenyosi.

18 Villages will Jostle for Honours as the 2025 edition of the prestigious annual Enugwu-Ukwu Unity Cup kicks off on Saturday, 6th December, 2025.

The annual football fiesta will hold from Saturday, 6th December, 2025 to 2nd January, 2026 with matches expected to be played at Orabuike Primary School, Enugwu-Ukwu.

The football tournament which is bankrolled by Chief Dozie Okoye (Oba Ikpeamaego) in collaboration with the Enugu-Ukwu Community Development Union (ECDU) and the Enugu-Ukwu Youth Council (EYC) will see the winner take home the star prize of N1million while the first and second runners-up will go home with the sums of N500 thousand and N300 thousand respectively.

According to Arc. Nonso Okoye, EYC President, the football programme is geared towards fostering unity among Ndi Enugwu-Ukwu, unearthing football talents domiciled in the grassroots and providing entertainment throughout the festive period for the community.

Urukpaleke Village will kickoff proceedings when they take on Umuatuora/Umuokpalanri Village in the opening match on Saturday, 6th December, 2025. The two villages were earlier drawn in Group A alongside Orofia and Enuagu.

Group B consists of Uruogbo, Orji, Umuakwu and Avomimi; Group C will see Osili tango with Urunnebo, Urualor and Uruokwe while Group D is comprising of Awovu, Ire, Uruekwo and Umuatulu/Akiyi.

Metropolitan College To Tango With Modebe In Finals of 2025 Dozek Inter School Soccer Championship

Defending Champions, Metropolitan College of Onitsha will square up against Modebe Memorial Secondary School Onitsha in the grand finale of the ongoing 2025 edition of the Dozek Inter School Football Championship sponsored by Chief Donatus Nzekwesi, Chairman/CEO of Dozek Group Realtors.

Metropolitan College defeated Prince Memorial Secondary School by a lone goal in the first semi-finals to book a place in the final while Modebe had to rely on penalty shootouts to see off the contest from Christ the King College (CKC) who they defeated 3-1 via penalties after the game ended scoreless at the end of regulation time in the second semi-finals match.

The 2025 edition of the annual Dozek Inter School Football Championship had eight secondary schools in Onitsha jostling for honours with the winner expected to coast home with the star prize of N100,000 while the first and second runners-up are expected to take home the sum of N50,000 and N30,000 respectively

There will be consolation prizes for the Most Valuable Player (MVP), Highest Goal Scorer and Best Behaved Team on the final day of the competition fixed for a tentative date of Thursday, 11th December, 2025.

The competition which was initiated by an Ex-Rangers player and former board member of the Anambra State Football Association (ANSFA) Emeka Ralph (Sarafi) is being bankrolled by Chief Donatus Nzekwesi, an old boy of the CKC and Chairman/CEO of Dozek Group Realtors.

According to the sponsor, the essence of bankrolling the competition is to give back to the society through engagement of students and schools in sports using the instrumentality of football as well as promoting the spirit of sportsmanship among students, discover, nurture and promote talents to the next level.
