Professor Echendu Dolly Adinma of the Department of Community Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka on Thursday, 4th December, 2025 delivered the 118th Inaugural Lecture of the University titled, "The Anatomy of a Policy: Dissecting the stages, forces and fractures of the health policy development in Nigeria."

The 118th inaugural lecturer and Professor of Public Health and Community Medicine in her opening remarks stated that health policy is the architecture of a nation's well-being and just like the blueprint of a complex building, determines whether the structure of care will stand against the storms of disease.

The scholar disclosed that the lecture adopted an anatomical lens to highlight the importance of health policy in order to examine the stages of policy, determinants of the policy, actors in policy and the points of the fracture that compromise function.

Prof. Adinma informed that health policy development in Nigeria has undergone transformative journey from the pre-colonial era which she described as the traditional health practices to the colonial era, the foundations of exclusion within a period of 1900 to 1960 and the post-independent era comprising of the primary health care era, structural adjustment and health under strain, health sector reforms and 2014 National health act.

The 118th inaugural lecturer enumerated the challenges of health policy development in the land such as limited funding, weak heath system infrastructure, heath workforce shortages, poor information system, political instability, inadequate community engagement, emerging health treats and low health insurance coverage.

Prof. Adinma suggested that for the nation to strengthen her health sector she must embrace a new paradigm build on five pillars highlighted as political will as currency, financing as oxygen, equity as compass, data as light and community ownership as anchor. The scholar affirmed that for Nigeria's health policy development to move forward, critical stakeholders in the health sector must embrace long-term healthcare financing, institutionalized feedback mechanisms, gender-sensitive approaches and interdisciplinary collaboration

Earlier in his remarks while declaring the lecture open, UNIZIK Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ugochukwu Bond Stanley Anyaehie stated that Inaugural Lectures are core ingredients of the University culture and a platform for Professors to showcase their research studies carried out in their chosen field.

Prof. Anyaehie described the lecture as an epic event bringing about the fusion of town and gown while also promising to enhance inaugural lecture programme in the institution through adequate funding and encouraging research.

Highpoints of the occasion was the decoration of the inaugural lecturer with medal of Honour by the Provost, College of Health Sciences, Nnewi, Prof. Jude Kennedy Emejulu on behalf of UNIZIK Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ugochukwu Bond Stanley Anyaehie.

Apple City Brother's Club of Nigeria (ACBCN) in conjunction with Apple City Development Initiative (ACDI) on Sunday, 30th November, 2025 held its maiden anniversary, patron investiture, and award ceremony to mark a significant milestone in the organization's journey.

The colourful event which was held at the Umuzocha Civic Centre Awka, Anambra State was a grand affair with notable dignitaries, members of the club and well wishes in attendance.

The ceremony featured the investiture of patrons, who have made significant contributions to the club and its activities while awards were conferred to outstanding members and individuals who have supported the club's mission and activities.

In his address during the event, the Chairman of ACBCN, Chief Dr. Nestor Amahalu stated that the mission of the organization is to promote social welfare and development through independent, non-profit and voluntary efforts in assisting the less privileged, support for widows and extending helping hands to communities in need.

The scholar described the event as a significant milestone in their journey offering an opportunity for the group to reflect on what still needs to be done by renewing their commitment to the values and to envision the future the organization seek to create together which has led to the advent of Apple City Development Initiative (ACDI), a charitable foundation of the ACBCN.

Dr. Amahalu affirmed that the group believe in the power of collaboration by coming together to address the challenges of financial constraints and difficulty securing consistent funding. He also eulogized the patrons and special guests at the event for their immense support while also appreciating the members of the Apple City Brothers' Club of Nigeria for their tireless work and dedication.

Earlier in his remarks, the Chairman of the occasion and a patron of the ACBCN, Dr. Ikechukwu Umeh described the organization as a unique club owing to her societal impact of touching lives positively through mentorship and contributions to both individuals and community development.

The Global President of Nnamdi Azikiwe University Alumni Association (NAUAA) Worldwide averred that ACBCN is akin to his mission of setting up a foundation known as DISCUADI, with the aim of preparing final year students for life after school in line with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 10 and 8. The scholar charged public spirited individuals to support the vision and mission of the ACBCN.

Dr. Amechi Fabian Anoke, LOC Secretary in his note of appreciation re-echoed the views of other speakers at the event by commending the dignitaries for making the event colourful while calling for support from members and non-members in strengthening the core values of the organization.

Highpoints of the colourful event was the investiture of Dr. Ikechukwu Umeh and Engr. Osita Okonkwo as patrons of the club, donations and award presentations to notable dignitaries, special guests and distinguished members of the ACBCN for their immense contributions to the organization's noble course.

The Forum for African Women Educationalist (FAWE) Nigeria, Anambra State Chapter, in collaboration with Association Against Child, Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (AACSGBV) on Tuesday, 25th November, 2025 held a one-day road show to raise awareness about gender-based violence.

The road show which was held at the Awka Campus of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka was geared towards sensitizing the university community and the general public on the importance of preventing and addressing gender-based violence, promoting a culture of respect, dignity and equality for all.

The event which is part of the global 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence campaign kick-starting from November 25 to December 10th, 2025 seeks to eliminate all forms of violence against women and girls.

Addressing Journalists after the road show, the State Secretary of FAWE Nigeria, Anambra State Chapter, Dr. Mariagoretti Obiakor stated that the road show is officially to flag off the 16 days activism on gender-based violence (GBV) with the idea being to sensitize women and girls about GBV and the necessary steps to take to curb the menace.

Dr. Obiakor, a lecturer in the Department of Educational Management and Policy, UNIZIK, disclosed that the 16 days activism on GBV will include webinar and sensitization campaign on broadcast mediums comprising of Radio and Television in the South East zone. The scholar affirmed that the sensitization will also include visitations to post-primary schools in the state where the group is expected to sensitize students on GBV as well as give out items such as sanitary pads and exercise books.

On her part, the State Coordinator of FAWE Nigeria, Ebonyi State Chapter, Dr. Juliana Odoh averred that the gathering is to raise voices against the challenge that continues to affect the lives and destinies of many young girls and women in different communities in the state and the nation at large. Dr. Odoh informed that GBV is not just a social issue but a human rights issues which calls for collective understanding, action and commitment.

Also speaking, a scholar from the Department of Library and Information Studies, UNIZIK, Prof. Florence Nwofor stated that the event has become necessary to talk about GBV as the trend is becoming worrisome. The scholar opined that the trend has led to fatality of women of class in the society and women who have no voice of their own which is the reason FAWE Nigeria, a forum that brings together women in Education had deemed it necessary to talk about the ugly trend through creating awareness and sensitization in a bid to nip the societal menace in the bud.

Others who expressed their views during the one-day road show were Prof. Vivian Nwogbo, Former Dean of the Faculty of Education, UNIZIK who represented Prof. Nkechi Ikediugwu, State Coordinator FAWE Nigeria, Anambra State Chapter and Chairperson, Post Primary School Service Commission (PPSSC), Anambra State.

According to recent reports, Nigeria has seen a rise in GBV cases, with 27 percent of women aged 15-49 experiencing some form of female genital mutilation and violent abuse from the male folks.

The one-day road show featured awareness campaigns, interactive sessions, and advocacy efforts to promote a GBV-free society.

The Vice-Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Prof. Ugochukwu Bond Stanley Anyaehie has assured that his administration will ensure that the 3.0 megawatts Solar Hybrid Powered Plant made available to the institution by the Federal Government will be fully utilized under his watch.

Prof. Anyaehie gave the assurance during an interview session with reporters upon assumption of duty as the seventh substantive Vice-Chancellor of the University.

Prof. Anyaehie said the multi-million naira Federal government sponsored solar powered farm which has remained in a state of comatose and non-functional since installation must be revived and made functional to cushion the power challenge currently been experienced in the University.

The UNIZIK VC at the moment has initiated a thorough technical diagnosis involving professional engineers and renewable-energy experts. Prof. Anyaehie has already provided the financial support needed for the procurement of essential vandalized parts to ensure that bureaucratic bottle-necks are nipped in the bud.

Prof. Anyaehie has also issued stern warning to staff members that any form of sabotage to the process leading to the revival of the solar powered plant will not be condoned while urging all stakeholders to put in their effort towards the process of reviving the project.

It would be recalled that the solar powered farm was put in place to address the energy demands of the institution, reduce the energy costs, stabilize electricity supply and strengthen academic and administrative operations in the university.

Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo, CFR, the Executive Governor of Anambra State has extolled the process that led to the emergence of Prof. Ugochukwu Bond Stanley Anyaehie as the seventh substantive Vice-Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka describing it as transparent.

Gov. Soludo made the remarks while playing host to the Vice-Chancellor of UNIZIK at the Governor’s Lodge fondly known as the 'Light House' on Sunday, 23rd November, 2025.

Gov. Soludo stated that having studied Professor Anayehie's CV, there is no doubt that he is the right person to lead the University, hence welcoming him to the state. The Executive Governor of Anambra State charged Prof. Anyaehie to ensure the institution is uplifted under his watch both in teaching, research and community service.

The number one citizen of the state advised public office holders to emulate the transparent process that led to the appointment of Prof. Anyaehie as the seventh Substantive Vice-Chancellor of UNIZIK.

Responding, UNIZIK Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Anyaehie thanked Gov. Soludo for the warm reception, the UNIZIK VC assured that under his watch, the university named after the Great ZIK of Africa will achieve notable milestones in academics and ensure that her graduants are among the best in the nation.

Moses Amamekwe's goal in the 54th minute of a pulsating encounter played at the Awka City Stadium was enough to give his side a well deserved maximum points in the first home match of the ongoing 2025/2026 Nigeria National League (NNL) season.

The technical crew led by tactician, Coach Willy Udube made two changes to the side that lost to Akwa United on match day one as Solomon Akpan returned to the starting XI to captain the side while Raphael Orndugwem also got the nod.

The Solution Boys would have been home and dry in the first period save for plethora of efforts some of which richocheted off the post, Osun GK Titoso denying our front line and a handful of missed half chances in the final third.

The boys would however make amends nine minutes after the restart as Moses Amamekwe in a vantage position slotted home a team mercurial attacking build-up play assisted by Valentine Ugwu who incidentally was rewarded with the Man-of-the-Match award bankrolled by Nolun Chattels Limited, Awka.

Reacting after the match, Coach Udube stated that the team is still work in progress having recruited more than 30 playing personnel for the current season. The tactician assured that the team will achieve the necessary bonding needed with more competitive games to come.

Nolun Chattels Limited Awka has entered into partnership with Anambra State Government owned club, Solution FC by instituting a N30,000 prize money award for the Man of the Match (MOTM) during Solution FC's home matches for the 2025/2026 Nigeria National League (NNL) season.

The partnership was consummated on Thursday, 20th November, 2025 at the Awka City Stadium, the official home ground of Solution FC with the Founder and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the firm, Engr. Dr. Ifunanya Baruch Nwangwu who was present during the process while Solution FC Chairman, Chief Chukwuma Ezeamama was represented by the club's Administrative Secretary, Chijioke Onyedika.

In a brief interview session with Solution FC media, Dr. Nwangwu stated that the partnership is geared towards supporting Nigerian professional footballers who are not getting the desired support and that is the reason the firm is instituting a MAN-OF-THE-MATCH Award worth N30,000 for every home match of Solution FC for the ongoing 2025/26 NNL season.

The CEO of Nolun Chattels Limited averred that the MOTM award is to encourage the players to give their best on the field of play so as to encourage others who are striving to become professional footballers while also disclosing that the award will come with a physical award in form of a plaque and cash prizes of N30,000 for each man of the match.

Nwangwu said: "They say charity begins at home, that's why today we have entered into partnership with Solution FC by instituting a N30,000 prize money Man-of-the-Match award for players who give their best on the field of play in order to encourage and reward outstanding performance on match days as professional footballers are not getting the full support they really needed considering that they have a short career in the game.

"The Man-of-the-Match Award will come with a physical award and cash prize of N30,000 for each man of the match aimed at encouraging the players to give their best on the field so that they can encourage others who are striving to become professional footballers," Nwangwu stated.

Dr. Nwangwu assured that the MOTM award has come to stay and will be a continuous process even after the current season. The top football administrator and realtor charged fans and supporters of Solution FC to always troupe out en masse during the club's home matches as the current team is much improved side with the capability to secure promotion to the top flight, the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) come next season.

The 7th Substantive Vice-Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Prof. Ugochukwu Bond Stanley Anyaehie has promised to enhance the visibility of the institution using the instrumentality of sports.

Prof. Anyaehie made the remarks on Wednesday, 19th November, 2025 when he hosted the athletes and officials that featured at the just concluded 27th edition of the Nigerian University Games (NUGA) held at the University of Jos, Plateau State from November 6th to 16th, 2025.

Prof. Anyaehie while welcoming the team stated that it is the first student group he is interfacing with upon assumption of duty as his administration has a student first policy bearing in mind that they are the major stakeholders and first priority in the institution. The Vice-Chancellor congratulated the student-athletes for making the institution proud by their conduct and winning medals in their various sporting competitions at the just concluded 27th NUGA Games.

Prof. Anyaehie disclosed that the students who attained podium finish at the 27th NUGA Games will be duly rewarded with cash incentives and institution's commendation letters that will boost their profiles. The VC assured that under his watch he will ensure there is no form of restiveness from the students which he intend to achieve through sporting engagements and participation.

Prof. Anyaehie also promised that the victorious female volleyball and female football teams will represent the institution at the forthcoming All Africa University FASU Games scheduled to hold in Cairo, Egypt in June 2026.

Earlier, in his remarks, the Chairman of the University Sports Committee, Prof. Dereck Orji thanked the Vice-Chancellor for making out time to host the team despite his tight schedule, he stated that the interaction will serve as a bond between the University management led by the Vice-Chancellor and the committee on sports administration in the University.

On her part, the Acting Director of Sports who doubles as the Chairperson of SSANU UNIZIK Branch, Comrade Anthonia Chukwudi thanked the University management for their approvals in ensuring that the institution featured at the 27th NUGA Games. Comrade Chukwudi disclosed that the institution won a total of 8 medals at the games in Taekwondo, Karate, Volleyball, Football, Athletics and Rowing. The union leader assured that under her watch with the support of the Vice-Chancellor, the institution will attain notable achievements in upcoming inter universities sporting programmes.

Engr. Professor Joseph Tagbo Nwabanne of the Department of Chemical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering on Thursday, 20th November, 2025 delivered the 117th Inaugural Lecture of the University on the topic: "From Waste to Energy: Unlocking Nigeria's Biomass Potentials."

The inaugural lecturer and Professor of Bioenergy and Environmental Engineering in his opening remarks stated that energy is important for human society having a significant environmental impact which is largely responsible for the global environmental crisis commonly referred to as energy-environment crises.

The scholar informed that Bioenergy is a compelling alternative in the global energy transition which can significantly contribute to meeting future energy demands sustainably. The 117th inaugural lecturer disclosed that Bioenergy comprises energy derived from Bioresources which is simply the transformation of biomass into useful energy forms such as heat, electricity and biofuels.

Prof. Nwabanne revealed that the conversion of biomass into energy can be achieved through direct combustion, anaerobic digestion or biochemical methods such as fermentation and transesterification. In highlighting the role of Chemical Engineer in bioenergy economy, The former Dean of the Faculty of Engineering posited that Chemical Engineers utilize their expertise to design, optimize and scale up processes for converting biomass and waste materials into biofuels and other forms of renewable energy.

The scholar affirmed that Chemical Engineers serve as key drivers in advancing the transition towards a more sustainable and renewable energy future. The 117th inaugural lecturer narrated his journey in bioenergy research describing it as a very productive venture leading to the production of bioethanol, biodiesel, biogas, sustainable aviation fuel and pyrolysis oil from various biomasses and waste materials.

Prof. Nwabanne suggested that the prospective rivalry for land and raw materials with alternative biomass applications must be meticulously regulated while the yield of food and biomass feed stocks must be enhanced through improved farming methods. The scholar further stated that logistical and infrastructural challenges must be resolved while there is need for additional technological advancements in order to achieve more effective and cleaner conversion of a broader arrays of feedstocks.

SportsNUGA 2025: UNIZIK Rakes in 5 Medals at 27th NUGA Games by Ikalex(op):

Team UNIZIK Contingent at the just concluded 27th edition of the Nigerian University Games (NUGA) held at the University of Jos, Plateau State have won a total of five medals at the games finishing joint 50th on the Medals' table with Federal University of Lafia (FULAFIA), Nasarawa State.

The student-athletes won a total of 2 silver and 3 bronze medals at the biennial Nigerian version of the Olympic Games at the the University level.

The two silver medals were won by Mary Ogisi in the Taekwondo Female Poomsae display and Chinaza Benedicta in Track and Field event during the female 800 metres final.

The three bronze medals came through the Female Football event as Team UNIZIK Ladies saw off their opponents in Ambrose Ali University Ekpoma in the third and fourth place playoffs match after they had hitherto lost narrowly to UNILAG by a lone goal in the Semi-final.

The Team UNIZIK Female Volleyball side fondly known as Team UNIZIK Volleyball Queens edge past Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO) Female Volleyball team by 3 sets to 1 in the third and fourth placed playoffs to take the bronze medal while UNIZIK Star of the competition, Mary Ogisi secured the third bronze medal for the institution in Karate -50kg female kumite fight.

Team UNIZIK were at the 27th NUGA Games held from the 6th to 16th November, 2025 with a contingent comprising of 75 athletes and 16 officials.

At the just concluded games, Benson Idahosa University finished tops on the Medals' table with 34 medals comprising of 25 gold, 6 silver and 3 bronze; the Host, University of Jos (UNIJOS) came second with a total of 50 medals consisting of 18 gold, 15 silver and 17 bronze while the University of Benin (UNIBEN) came third having claimed a total of 34 medals comprising of 15 gold, 9 silver and 10 bronze.

Delta State University Abraka came fourth on the Medals' table, Lagos State University came 5th while University of Ibadan finished on 6th position. Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, University of Uyo, Tai Solarin University of Education and University of Abuja returned 7th, 8th, 9th and 10th positions respectively as a total of 88 Universities featured at the 11-day varsity sports program.

All is now set for the 117th Inaugural Lecture of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka to be delivered by Engr. Professor Joseph Tagbo Nwabanne.

Prof. Nwabanne, a Professor of Bioenergy and Environmental Engineering in the Department of Chemical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering of the institution will deliver the lecture titled, "From Waste to Energy: Unlocking Nigeria's Biomass Potentials."

The academic event scheduled to take place by 1pm on Thursday, 20th November, 2025 at the University Auditorium will have the quintessential academic take the university community and the town on a journey of discovery through the potentials of biomass and renewable energy as an alternative source for the nation's energy needs and its inherent values, benefits for the nation.

The lecture will be chaired by the Vice-Chancellor of UNIZIK, Professor Ugochukwu Bond Stanley Anyaehie with Professor Josephat O. Ogbuagu serving as the Chairman of the Inaugural Lecture Committee.

Engr. Professor Joseph Tagbo Nwabanne is a quintessential and avid scholar in the field of Bioenergy and Environmental Engineering with over 100 publications in reputable journals across the globe. Prof. Nwabanne has served as the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Head of the Department of Chemical Engineering and equally chaired various committees both at the Faculty and University level. He is also a firm believer and preacher of the Gospel of Christianity.

The inaugural lecture is a significant event at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, showcasing the academic prowess and contributions of its professors through research, teaching and community service.

Team UNIZIK Female Football team have qualified for the semi-final of the football event at the ongoing 27th NUGA Games holding at UNIJOS.

A solitary effort off a trademark free kick from Chidimma Cynthia Okoye in the 78th minute of the competitive game against the female football team of the Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike (MOUAU) was enough to do the job for the ladies.

With the result, Team UNIZIK Ladies are expected to engage UNILAG Ladies who they defeated earlier on in the group stages by two goals to nil.

The semi-final match will be played on Thursday, 13th November, 2025 by 10am at the playing pitch of the St. Augustine Major Seminary Katako, Jos, Plateau State.

Team UNIZIK Volleyball Queens on Tuesday, 11th November, 2025 outclassed UNIJOS Ladies in their second group match to book their place in the quarter-finals of the ongoing 27th NUGA Games.

Team UNIZIK VB Queens won by three sets to nil (25-21, 25-14, 25-16) to jet into the round of 16 as they go top of the log in their group.

The Queens will on Wednesday, 12th November, 2025 at the Azi Nyako Youth Centre venue of the volleyball event seek to consolidate their dominance in the group as they get set to engage Nasarawa State University and Bayero University Kano (BUK).

Meanwhile, Team UNIZIK won her second medal of the ongoing 27th NUGA Games on Tuesday through Benedicta Chinaza who finished second in the 800 metres event in track and field for a silver medal.

The fourth edition of the 2025 Onitsha Unity Cup Under-17 championship will kickoff on Wednesday, November 12th, 2025 at the Godwin Achebe Stadium Onitsha with the opening match between Ozalla FC versus Precious FC.

The football fiesta which is being bankrolled by Onitsha Ex-Footballers in Diaspora (ONEFID) will feature a total of 12 football clubs vying for honours from November 12th, 2025 to January 7th, 2026 with the champions coasting home with the sum of N1Million while the second, third and fourth placed teams will each go home with the sum of N500,000; N300,000 and 100,000 respectively.

The outcome of the draws ceremony which was made public by the competition's Local Organizing Committee (LOC) Chairman, Emeka Raphael (Sarafi) disclosed that the venues for this year's football Championship remains the Godwin Achebe Stadium and Chuba Ikpeazu Stadium all domiciled in Onitsha.

Defending Champions, Ozalla FA were drawn in Group A against Precious FC and Ogbaru Pioneers FC. Group B will see Olive Charles FA slug it out against Paegis FC and R&S Overflow FC, Group C is comprising of Michael FC, Future Hopes FC and Terich FA while Group D has Success FC, Bonfa FA and Lion Star FC.

In the third edition, Ozalla FA emerged Champions seeing off Olive Charles FA 4-3 via penalty shootouts after the game ended 1-1 at the end of the regulation time in a pulsating final contest played on Wednesday, 8th January, 2025 at the Chuba Ikpeazu Stadium, Onitsha.

According to the Chairman of ONEFID, Nkemakonam Jideofor Nwonwu popularly known as 'Olman', attested that the annual football programme is geared towards unravelling the next super star in Onitsha and projecting them to limelight.

Nwonwu informed that the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) under the leadership of former Rangers Int'l FC Star, Emeka Raphael will ensure the competition maintain its standards in line with FIFA ethos and tenets of the game.

The football administrator also revealed that there will be local and international football scouts on ground during the course of the competition to spot amazing talents with a view to taking them abroad for professional football career.

Team UNIZIK have won her first medal at the ongoing 27th edition of the Nigerian University Games (NUGA) currently ongoing at the University of Jos (UNIJOS), Plateau State.

The podium finish came in the form of a Silver medal won in the Individual Poomsae Female Category by Mary Ogisi, a 200-level student of the Department of Human Kinetics and a combat fighter for Taekwondo as well as Karate event.

Mary Ogisi narrowly missed out on Gold having secured 15 points in the grand finale as against 16 points cumulative awarded to Happiness Adirimo of the Niger Delta University (NDU) by the judges during the Poomsae display at Korean Taekwondo Hall, Karaguta Campus of UNIJOS.

Ogisi had earlier seen off the challenge from Esther Emediong from the University of Uyo (UNIUYO), Fatimah Aderibigbe of Federal University Oye (FUOYE) and Mary Odiri of University of Benin (UNIBEN) on her way to the final.

Ogisi is expected to fight in the -49kg female flyweight category in Taekwondo and -50kg finweight category in Karate for Team UNIZIK at the 10-day varsity sports program.

Team UNIZIK Female Volleyball side fondly known as Team UNIZIK Volleyball Queens on Monday, 10th November, 2025 defeated their opponents from Kaduna State University (KSU) in their first match of the ongoing 2025 Nigerian University Games (NUGA).

The UNIZIK VB Queens romped over the KSU Ladies by three sets to nil (25-23, 25-13, 25-11) in an entertaining fixture played at the Volleyball Court of the Azi Nyako Youth Centre, Dadin Kuwa, Jos, one of the venues of the ongoing 2025 NUGA Games being hosted by the University of Jos (UNIJOS).

Team UNIZIK VB Queens will hope to consolidate on the victory when they play their second group match against the host, UNIJOS Ladies on Tuesday, 11th November, 2025 by 11am at the same venue.

Team UNIZIK Volleyball Queens are expected to also face Bayero University Kano (BUK) and Nasarawa State University Female Volleyball teams in the course of the round-robin group stages.

Elsewhere, the UNIZIK Male Volleyball side known as the UNIZIK VB Spikers were not so lucky as they have been knocked out of the competition after losing their first two matches to Nasarawa State University 3 sets to 1 and Bayero University Kano by 3 sets to nil.

Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK) female football team opened its 2025 Nigerian University Games (NUGA) campaign with a victory against their opponent, Niger Delta University (NDU), coasting home with three points and three goals.

The match scheduled to be played at the football pitch of the St. Augustine Major Seminary, Katako, Jos was meant to be the first fixture for both sides, however, NDU failed to turn up which led to the match officials performing the mandatory walk-over in line with football regulations.

The result gives Team UNIZIK an edge on the group log with three points and +3 goals advantage in their quest to top the group and proceed to the quarterfinals of the ongoing female football contest.

UNIZIK will next face Team UNILAG on Monday, 10th November, 2025 by 2pm still at the playing pitch of the St. Augustine Major Seminary, Katako, Jos to decide the institution that will top the Group C for a place in the last 8.

Team UNIZIK contingent comprising of 75 athletes and 16 officials on Thursday, 6th November, 2025 departed Awka to feature at the upcoming 27th edition of the Nigerian University Games (NUGA) scheduled to hold from the 6th to 16th November, 2025 at the University of Jos (UNIJOS), Plateau State.

Team UNIZIK will feature in 10 sporting events consisting of Athletics, Basketball, Football, Judo, Karate, Rowing, Scrabble, Table Tennis, Taekwondo and Volleyball.

Addressing the contingent at the Multipurpose Hall before their departure, UNIZIK Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Carol Arinze-Umobi admonished the student-athletes to be good ambassadors of the institution during the course of the biennial inter universities sports competition.

Prof. Arinze-Umobi who was represented by the Dean of Student Affairs, Prof. Makodi Biereenu-Nnabugwu reminded them that they are going to Jos to project the image of the institution positively by winning laurels in their various events at the varsity sports program.

The Acting VC assured that her administration remains committed towards the welfare of the students and sports participation is essential in projecting the image of the institution not just through academics but in other spheres of human endeavour.

Responding, the Director of Sports, Comrade Anthonia Chukwudi thanked the Acting VC for her immense support towards the growth and development of sports in the institution.

She assured that Team UNIZIK will give a good account of themselves just like the team did during the Pre-NUGA games.

Ifitedunu Born, Prince Jerome Obinabo has endorsed the candidacy of Leigh Wambsganss for the post of a Senator for the upcoming Senate District 9 Texas Municipal elections scheduled for Tuesday, November 4, 2025.

Prince Obinabo, an IT expert, philanthropist and community leader in a goodwill and endorsement message on his Facebook page expressed his support for Leigh Wambsganss.

The message reads: "Proud to stand with Leigh Wambsganss, our next Texas District 9 Senator, Leigh is a fearless, no non-sense conservative leader endorsed by President Trump and she has my full support", Prince Obinabo said.

The upcoming election will see Wambsganss running against fellow Republican, John Huffman and Democrat Taylor Rehmet. Senate District 9, which comprises northwestern Tarrant County, is vacant after Republican Kelly Hancock stepped down earlier this year to be the acting state comptroller.

Leigh Wambsganss is an American Conservative political activist who is the Chief Communication Officer of Patriot Mobile and Executive Director of its affiliated political action committee.

The former Chairperson of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) UNIZIK Chapter and the South East Chairman, School Based Management Committee, Prof. Stephen Ufoaroh has been honoured with an award for exemplary leadership and service to humanity.

Prof. Ufoaroh was bestowed with the honour on the occasion of the 12th induction and oath taking ceremony of the graduands of the Faculty of Education, Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka into the teaching profession by the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) held on Tuesday, 28th October, 2025 at the University Auditorium.

The award to the President-General of Ifitedunu Community in Dunukofia LGA of Anambra State who coincidentally chaired the colourful event was in recognition of his outstanding leadership, unwavering commitment and selfless dedication to human and community development.

In his remarks and goodwill message, Prof. Stephen Ufoaroh thanked the Faculty of Education for the recognition stating that the award will spur him to do more by contributing to societal growth, community development and human empowerment.

Prof. Ufoaroh went further to encourage the young graduands to ensure they exhibit character that portray them in good light as teachers are role models. The scholar described teaching as a worthy profession that shapes society while he charged the new inductees to take the profession serious by being dedicated and committed to their duties as agent of positive change, society builders and human capacity developers.

Prof. Stephen Uchenna Ufoaroh is a Professor of Electronics and Computer Engineering at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka majoring in the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI), Bio-medical Engineering and Internet of Things (IoT).

The scholar once served as the Chairperson of ASUU UNIZIK Chapter from 2018 to 2023, he is the current Chairman, UNIZIK Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit while doubling also as the Chairman, UNIZIK Electricity Committee.

The Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) as part of its effort to professionalize teaching in Nigeria on Tuesday, 28th October, 2025 inducted over a thousand graduands of the Faculty of Education who have successfully completed their programmes in Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka.

The 12th induction and oath taking ceremony which took place at the University Auditorium had its theme as, "Education for Entrepreneurship and Life Skills."

In the Chairman's Opening Remarks, the Chairman, School Based Management Committee South East and President-General of Ifitedunu Community, Prof. Stephen Ufoaroh encouraged the young graduands to exhibit character that portray them in good light as teachers are role models.

The former Chairperson, ASUU UNIZIK Chapter, described teaching as a worthy profession that shapes society, the scholar tasked the new inductees to take the profession serious by being dedicated and committed to their duties as agent of positive change, society builders and human capacity developers.

In his opening remarks, UNIZIK Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Carol Arinze-Umobi while congratulating the students on their induction highlighted the importance of teaching as a profession with ethics and code of conduct guiding the profession.

The Acting VC who was represented by Prof. Ada Sam Omenyi reiterated the importance of Artificial Intelligence being incorporated into the education system for curriculum development and advancement. The scholar admonished the newly inducted graduates to equip themselves with the cognitive, affective and psychomotor capacities and competences to be in line with the new advancing digital age.

The Dean of the Faculty of Education, Prof. Ebele Okigbo in her address informed that the occasion is to celebrate excellence, professionalism and the enduring values that define the teaching vocation. Prof. Okigbo also said that the induction ceremony is a solemn commitment to uphold integrity, discipline and service to humanity through education. The University Don called on the new graduands to contribute their quota to education by shaping lives, building character and nurturing the next Generation of leaders.

Delivering the 12th induction lecture, Barrister, Doris Chinedu-Okoro, described teaching as a noble profession and a great service to humanity. She described teaching as the bedrock of all other profession with opportunities in researching that could propel one to excel in their various endeavors. She also offered free training scholarships to the 10 best graduating students of the Faculty.

In her remarks while administering the Oath to the graduands, the Registrar and Chief Executive of TRCN, Dr. Ronke Soyombo reiterates that TRCN is resolute in its mission to elevate the teaching profession in Nigerian, having embarked on a series of strategizing, reforms and innovation designed to ensure that every teacher is equipped to meet the demands of a rapidly changing world.

The induction ceremony featured award presentations to distinguished personalities and other education stakeholders who graced the occasion, prominent among them is the award of exemplary leadership and service to humanity bestowed on the Chairman UNIZIK Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit as well as Chairman UNIZIK Electricity Committee, Engr. Prof. Stephen Ufoaroh.

Defending Champions, Metropolitan College of Onitsha kicked off in style the defense of the annual Dozek Inter School Football Championship trophy they won during the 2024 edition by obliterating Government Technical College (GTC) Onitsha by three unreplied goals in the previous week marking the commencement of the third edition of the competition.

The 2025 edition of the annual Dozek Inter School Football Championship has a total of eight secondary schools in Onitsha drawn into two groups of four each who are jostling for honours and the star prize of N100,000 with the first and second runners-up expected to take home the sum of N50,000 and N30,000 respectively while there are consolation prizes for the Most Valuable Player (MVP), Highest Goal Scorer and Best Behaved Team. The competition will also see the eight participating teams receiving jerseys and balls from the sponsor as well as incentives for the Games' Masters.

The competition which was initiated by an Ex-Rangers player and former board member of the Anambra State Football Association (ANSFA) Emeka Ralph (Sarafi) is being bankrolled by Chief Donatus Nzekwesi, an old boy of the CKC and Chairman/CEO of Dozek Group Realtors.

In Group A, Prince Memorial Secondary School mauled Blessed Child School 3-0 while the cracker between Christ the King College (CKC) versus Onitsha High School ended in a two all draw. In the other Group B match, Modebe Memorial Secondary School ran out winners against Washington Memorial Grammar School by a lone goal.

According to the sponsor, the essence of bankrolling the competition which is in its third edition is to give back to the society through engagement of students and schools in sports using the instrumentality of football. Chief Nzekwesi informed that the competition was birthed in the aftermath of the 2022 edition of Inter House Football competition of the CKC.

Chief Nzekwesi reiterated that the football competition is geared towards promoting the spirit of sportsmanship among students, discover, nurture and promote talents to the next level and create an opportunity for bigger challenge now and in the future. He charged the students to ensure they are disciplined and display the spirit of sportsmanship throughout the course of the competition.

UNIZIK: CLAN 36th Hybrid Conference Kicks Off, Scholars Advocate Nigerian Language Preservation in Digital Era

Scholars and education stakeholders have harped on the importance of preserving Nigerian languages in the era of digital revolution so as to save the various cultures and identities from going into extinction.

The calls were made during the opening ceremony of three-day 36th hybrid Conference of the Linguistic Association of Nigeria (CLAN), Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka holding at De Heavens Hotel, Awka, Anambra State.

Declaring the Conference Open, UNIZIK Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Carol Arinze-Umobi described language as a matrix of culture, identity, and social reality. The Acting VC, who was represented by Prof. Harry Obi-Nwosu disclosed that Nigeria is one of the most linguistically diverse countries in the world.

The Acting VC stated that the theme of the conference is apt in brainstorming the impact of the digital revolution on our languages and how best to make it to occupy the digital space.

In his welcome address, the Head, Department of Linguistics, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka and Chairman, Local Organizing Committee, Prof. Dereck Orji stated that the great gathering of minds is committed to the study, preservation, and advancement of Nigerian languages, especially in the digital era where algorithms play a pivotal role.

Prof. Orji described the theme of the conference as timely and transformative as the digital revolution is rewriting the story of communication, education, and identity. The HOD thanked the acting VC for her support towards the success of the conference.

Prof. George Onwudiwe, Dean of the Faculty of Arts, in his address, stated that in the present date, the digital revolution is reshaping every facet of human experience from communication and education to culture and identity.

The Dean opined that if the digital space is harnessed, it can serve as a powerful instrument in revitalizing our languages, documenting them, and ensuring their continued relevance in a globalized world.

Delivering his keynote address, the Secretary-General, Committee of Vice-Chancellor’s of Nigerian Universities (CVCNU), Prof. Andrew Haruna informed that Nigerian languages now confront a future defined by data.

Prof. Haruna, who was represented by Prof. Cecelia Eme posited that languages are not merely a cultural artifact but an infrastructure of thought. The CVCNU Secretary-General averred that as Nigeria advances towards a knowledge economy, its languages must occupy digital domain to become active instruments of development rather than nostalgic symbols of heritage.

Other scholars who made their remarks during the opening ceremony of the conference were Prof. Greg Obiamalu, Director of CEP and former Dean of the Faculty of Arts, UNIZIK; Prof. Ayo Yusuf from the University of Lagos (UNILAG) as first lead paper presenter and Prof. Ihuoma Akinremu of the University of Jos (UNIJOS) as the second lead paper presenter.

The colorful conference opening also featured award of LAN fellowship to Prof. Funmilayo Olubode-Sawe of the Federal University of Technology, Akure; Prof. Ayo Mensah, University of Calabar, Cross River State; Prof. Ihuoma Akinremi, UNIJOS and Prof. Ayo Yusuf, UNILAG.

There was an award of excellence for support towards educational growth presented to Comrade Peter Nwosu, an award of excellence in linguistics practice presented to Dr. Emma Asonye, University of New Mexico and Dr. Ganius Abisote Bamgbose, Lagos State University as well award of excellence to the acting VC in appreciation of her support towards educational growth in the ivory tower.

The conference will also feature technical sessions with paper presentations on Thursday, 23rd, and Friday, 24th October, 2025.

Dunukofia LGA Endorses Governor Soludo, Offers Financial Support for Second Term Re-election Campaign

The people of Dunukofia Local Government Area comprising of the six communities of Ukpo, Ifitedunu, Umunnachi, Umudioka, Ukwulu and Nawgu on Friday, 17th October, 2025 unanimously endorsed the re-election of Governor Chukwuma Soludo for a second term in office.

This endorsement was on the occasion of the 2025 Iwe-Ife-Ubi (Harvest) and Dunukofia LGA Endorsement Rally for Professor Charles Soludo held at the Dunukofia LGA Secretariat in Ukpo which brought together the traditional rulers of the six communities, President-Generals of the six communities, serving and former lawmakers, commissioners, political appointees from the area as well as various youth organizations and indigenes of the six communities.

In his address, the Chairman of Dunukofia Local Government Area, Hon. Barr. Chijioke Ozumba eulogized Gov. Soludo for his unwavering commitment to the development of the state of which Dunukofia Council area is not left out. The Mayor of Dunukofia LGA noted that the Solution effect in all sectors is refreshing and reassuring which is a testament to the fact that Gov. Soludo is poised in taking Anambra State to an accelerated level.

Honourable Ozumba highlighted some of the major projects for the Council area such as road construction, educational advancement by building of smart schools, health promotion, human resource management as clear evidence of Governor Soludo’s developmental impact and reasons for their continued support and endorsement for his re-election.

In his remarks, the Chairman of the occasion, Chief Jim Martins Nwabueze commended Gov. Soludo for his leadership style and remarkable initiatives geared towards putting the state on the map of excellence. Chief Nwabueze assured of the continuous support of the Council area to his administration.

Also speaking, The President-General of Ukpo Community, Hon. Cyril Walter Ezewulu, said the endorsement was driven by the Governor’s outstanding performance, emphasizing the need for him to sustain and expand ongoing projects.

Responding, the Executive Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo expressed gratitude to the people of Dunukofia for the endorsement rally and the Iwe-Ife-Ubi ceremony. Gov. Soludo affirmed that the harvest ceremony is important in celebration of agriculture which is key for national development while also disclosing his administration's programs for promoting farming termed 'Farm to Feed.'

Gov. Soludo assured that his administration will continue to work round the clock in ensuring that every sphere of human endeavor is touched for all round development. He informed that his quest for re-election is in continuation of his vision of taking the state to the next level of advancement.

Others who made their remarks during the endorsement rally were the Commissioner for Lands, Prof. Offornze Amucheazi (SAN), Mrs Chinenye Obidi representing the Market Women of Dunukofia, Mr. Joseph Uzochukwu Okafor who spoke on behalf of the One Youth Two Skills graduants, Mr. Arinze Egebe who spoke on behalf of Smart Schools, Mrs Adolisa Nwalioba for Nursing Mothers who benefited from the free ante natal and delivery and Mr. Onyedikachi Ezika on behalf of parents whose children were beneficiaries of the free education scheme.

The Iwe-Ife-Ubi harvest ceremony and endorsement also featured the Commissioning of Dunukofia LGA Legislative complex by Mr. Governor, Conferment of Dunukofia Chieftaincy title of 'Agubuzo Na Dunukofia' on High Chief Jim Martins Nwabueze and presentation of prize gifts for farm to table movement competition for the categories of largest cassava farm, largest yam farm, biggest tuber, largest vegetable farm and largest poultry.

The colourful event also featured Iwa ji by the Chairman of Dunukofia LGA, presentation of farm produce gifts to Mr. Governor, Dunukofia LGA financial support of over N200 million to Mr. Governor for re-election campaign, traditional blessings by the six traditional rulers of Dunukofia LGA, parades and cultural dance.

Recipients of the farm to the table movement competition smiled home with varying prize monies such as N500,000 for the winner, N300,000 for the second place and N200,000 for third place. For the largest cassava farm, the winner, 1st runner-up, 2nd runner-up, 3rd runner-up were Barr. Chijioke Ozumba, Okwudili Onyekwunife, Uzochukwu Emekwa and Ebele Ikechebelu respectively. Zimuzo Odogwu, Ifeanyi Abalogu, Paul Nwabunze and Veronica Nwoye came first, second, third and fourth respectively in the Largest Yam farm category.

The winner of the Biggest Poultry farm category went to Obinna Okeke who came tops while Caroline Omeaku and Ngozi Akpando came second and third respectively.

In the largest vegetable farm category, Arinze Perpetua, Loveth Mmaduka and Harrison Nwegu were 1st, 2nd and 3rd respectively while for the Biggest Yam Tuber category, Pius Okeke came first ahead on Chidiebele Okoye who came second while James Okoye settled for the third prize.

All is now set for the kick of the third edition of the 2025 Budweiser/KM Lubricant Veterans' Cup competition scheduled to commence on Saturday, 18th October, 2025 across Anambra State.

The competition which is bankrolled by the CEO of KM Lubricants, Chief Kenneth Maduakor in partnership with makers of Budweiser is for veteran footballers of 35 years and above with the winner expected to take home the star prize of One million naira while the first runners-up, second runners-up and fourth placed teams will go home with the sum of five hundred thousand naira, three hundred thousand naira and two hundred thousand naira respectively.

According to the competition coordinator, Jonathan Igwe, a total of 17 teams will be featuring in the competition with other consolation prizes such as Best Behaved Team worth N200,000 and Top Scorer as well as Highest Goal Scorer to take home the sum of N50,000 each.

Defending champions, Okwenu All Stars were drawn in Group C against Accurate FC, Dabara Ballers and Wood Marshal FC. Group A has SSK FC, Golden Ballers FC, Peace FC, Golden Warriors FC and Team 1 FC; Group B is comprising of Young Men FC, De House FC, Diamond FC and Sunday/Sunday FC while Group D has Nimo All Stars, Big Bombers FC, Elders FC and Oraifite Senior All Stars FC.

The quarter finals of the competition will be played on 29th and 30th November, 2025; the Semi Finals to be played on the 6th and 7th of December, 2025 while the competition will climax with the Grand Finale scheduled to hold on 14th December, 2025 at the FCIU Stadium, Ozubulu-Nnewi.

Matches will be played at Paul University pitch Awka, Rojenny Stadium Oba, FCIU Stadium Ozubulu-Nnewi, Ojoto Boys Secondary School football pitch, Nnewi High School pitch, Okongwu Memorial football pitch, St. Vincent, National Grammar School, St. Michael's pitch, Padua and Okwuosa School pitch.

The 2025 edition of the Linken Cup competition is set to enter the quarter final stages in the month of November, 2025.

The competition which is in its 15th edition is being bankrolled by Chief Kenneth Maduakor, Founder and CEO of KM Lubricants and Linken Table Water.

In the free age category, the winner will take home the sum of N150,000 while the first runners-up and the second runners-up will go home with the sum of N100,000 and N70,000 respectively. Scouting FA will trade tackles with BB International FC in the first quarter finals match billed for Nnewi High School field on the 1st of November, 2025 by 4pm while Accurate FC will play Energy Bombers FC on the 2nd of November, 2025 by 4pm at Nnewi High School field.

Game Warriors FC versus TC Ballars is scheduled for the 9th of November, 2025 by 4pm at the FCIU Stadium while the last quarter final match between De Bens FC versus Merit FA will hold on 9th November, 2025 by 4pm at the Nnewi High School pitch.

In the U-13 category which enters the semi finals stage, Gideonites will play against All Stars Ogbaru at the Nnewi High School on the 1st of November, 2025 by 2pm while Harvest FA will engage Merit FA in the second semi finals match on 2nd November, 2025 by 2pm. The winner of the U-13 category will take home the sum of N50,000, the second placed team will win N30,000 while the third placed team will go home with the sum of N20,000.

In the U-15 category, Sam Ben FA will trade tackles with No Skin Pain FA in the first semi finals match to be played at the Nnewi High School on the 9th of November, 2025 by 2pm while Gideonites will play All Stars of Ogbaru same day and same venue by 4pm. The winner of the U-15 category will take home the sum of N70,000, the first and second runners-up will win N50,000 and N30,000 respectively.

Mmuo Na Eje Ije FC are the defending champions in the free age category in the 2024 edition having defeated Golden Eaglets FC 1-0 in the finals courtesy of Valentine Odinaka's solitary strike in the 25th minute of the final match.

No Skin Pain FA defeated All Stars FA 5-1 in the U-13 category final match while Ogbaru All Stars FC saw off Nnewi Youths FA 2-1 in the final of the U-15 category.

The competition grand finale will hold on the 7th of December, 2025 at the FCIU Stadium, Ozubulu-Nnewi.

Prof. Steve Ibenta, a Professor of Banking, Finance and Economic Development Studies and former Dean of the Faculty of Management Sciences, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka is set to deliver his Valedictory Lecture to mark his retirement from the University.

The lecture titled, "The Lost Paradise: The Power of Money, Finance and Banking, and Politics of Investment, Wealth Creation and Sustainable Society", will hold on Wednesday, 29th October, 2025 by 12noon at the ASUU NAU Secretariat, UNIZIK, Awka.

The upcoming lecture will also feature the unveiling of a Festschrift presentation of research works in Banking and Finance by academic colleagues, associates and mentees in his honour. According to the erudite scholar, the Festschrift title is: "Financial Management and The Development of The Nigerian Economy."

The lecture will be chaired by UNIZIK Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Carol Arinze-Umobi with Prof. Josephat Ogbuagu, mni, Chairman, Inaugural Lecture Committee as RSVP.

Top government officials, political leaders, renowned academics, professionals, church leaders, traditional custodians and other important personalities from across the state and beyond are expected to grace the occasion.

The Chairman of the Anambra State Football Association (ANSFA), Chief Chikelue Iloenyosi on Monday, 13th October, 2025 marked the occasion of his birthday celebration with a visit to the Awka Custodial Centre of Nigerian Correctional Service.

The ANSFA Chairman who was joined during the visit by a retinue of football stakeholders in Anambra State and beyond celebrated his birthday giving out snacks, drinks and other edibles to the inmates as well as cash prizes to support the mini-soccer competition at the Correctional Centre whose grand finale coincidentally was held on the day in the presence of the celebrant and officers of the Correctional Centre.

In his remarks during the visit, Chief Iloenyosi stated that the visit to the Awka Custodial Centre of the Nigerian Correctional Service was to celebrate one of the best moments of his life with the inmates by giving them a sense of belonging as humans despite their plight as well as to show love and care that inspite of their predicament that there are people in the society who truly values their social well-being.

The Anambra FA Boss disclosed that he will donate a trophy and institute prizes in December to support the already existing football competition being played among the inmates of the 13 cells of the Correctional Service Centre as part of promoting football growth and strengthening the harmonious relationship among the inmates. He charged the inmates to be of good behaviour always even in their state of confinement.

Responding the Deputy Controller of Nigerian Correctional Service, Awka Custodial Centre, Lawrence Amaechi extolled Chief Iloenyosi for his contributions to the growth of sports in the state through football.

He prayed God to continue to grant the Anambra FA Chairman the enablement to do more exploits through football.

The visit featured words of commendations, praise worship songs and prayers by the inmates for the Anambra FA Boss.

2025 NUGA Games: UNIZIK Female Soccer Team Destroys AE-FUNAI 5-0 To Earn Qualification in Football Event

UNIZIK Female football team have qualified for the female football event of the upcoming 2025 Nigerian University Games Association (NUGA) Games scheduled to hold at the University of Jos (UNIJOS) from November 5th to 16th, 2025.

The mercurial female football team of UNIZIK made up of regular undergraduate students once again showcased their dominance in the football event of the NUGA Preliminaries in the zone which serves as the qualifier for the NUGA main event by obliterating the female football team of Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu-Alike, Ikwo (AE-FUNAI), Ebonyi State by five goals to nil in a match played at the UNEC Stadium, venue of the Zonal Preliminaries.

Hitherto, Team UNIZIK under the tutelage of Coach Franklin Ohazuruike (AKA Sir Bobbie) saw off the female side of Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT) 3-0 in the group stages in a competition featuring four universities comprising of UNIZIK, AE-FUNAI, ESUT and UNN.

In a similar event, Team UNIZIK also secured their places for the upcoming NUGA in team events such as Basketball (Female) and Volleyball (Male and Female).

UNIZIK Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Carol Arinze-Umobi who is also a sports lover and one-time NUGA national champion in discus event has promised that the University will participate fully at the upcoming NUGA games next month to be hosted by UNIJOS.
