Shey I sound like a child to you abi? Zoom in on the pictures. Those money are not straight because of the way I had to fold multiple of them before putting them into the box. The 500 Naira notes are even more compressed than the 1k notes. The 500 Naira notes are 61k and there are five 200 Naira notes on it. Do the maths to get the balance.

Go download piggy bank app .. it will save yr and change ur life. I was worse than you

Good advice. My guy please listen to this man's advise.

Savings on a small scale goes beyond just putting in little money everyday in a piggy bank. The idea is to build in us the capacity to persevere until we achieve our goals no matter how small and negligible our daily effort may seem. It builds in us resilience. Luckily enough for me I have an elder brother from whom I learnt how to save since my early days in secondary school. He didn't teach me outrightly rather I watched him keep buying stuffs from time to time and when I moved closer I discovered he never joked with a penny. He was and is still very good at savings and I've seen him achieve lots of things with it overtime. For example I know of a guy who used same piggy bank money to buy his first Honda car. He told me so and u was shocked. This was years ago fa and guess what? He does daily contribution now and he's almost done building his house as we speak.

I understand bro. Try balance small then start. You can put in any amount. Try it for a year no matter how slow or fast the money comes in. At the end of the year take it out and re-invest it into your business

Hello guys so recently I decided to take up the challenge of buying a saving box and dropping any cash from 500 Naira upward into it just before the ordeal I talked about not too long ago
(see it here: https://www.nairaland.com/6436174/landlord-torturing-us ) at the current place which I'm staying. I started saving as soon as I paid the first rent in my current jaguda place (around August.) My friend helped me get the box and for a couple of days I kept staring at it because I didn't have anything to put in it. Lol. The thing been come dey vex me sef. But I thank God because before long, I started getting some cash to put in there. My target was N1,000 per day but if I get more than that, I'll just take out my transportation for the next day and put the rest in it (wasn't easy though). Some days were good, others not so good. Sometimes I'd go for over two weeks without having anything to put in there while sometimes I could get like 10k, take out my transportation and put in the rest. I am an artisan lest I forget so na daily money people like me dey count on. Nobody dey pay us salary grin grin grin....

Anyway I got the box around late October last year (2020) and started dropping money in it the following month. There were times I was tempted to open it but I resisted. I actually got the box to save up for my house rent. I did this so as not to touch the money in my account or start running around for rent when the time comes. I finally got a new house today that's why I opened it up. Guess how much I saw in there after about 8 months of consistent savings...... N219,000 shocked shocked shocked shocked shocked

Now I can pay my rent and I won't even know something left me. It's easier to pay your rent or for any other long term stuffs this way than taking it out of your bank account (na that one dey pain pass. Lol). Lest I forget when you have this box at home, make sure not to show it to unfriendly people. Hide am very well if you can and always pray against the spirit of premature opening grin grin grin grin grin grin....

I did this to inspire some people who have difficulty in saving. Do this for two years and you can buy a car or land depending on how much you consistently put in it. No be everything be prayer point.

I thank God and my friend who went ahead to still buy the box even when I told her not to because I changed my mind. Lol

God bless you guys for reading.

Mods please push this to front page to encourage others. Thanks.

It's a return of good gesture, don't take it to heart bro.

In my place you never return a plate empty handed, even when visiting don't come with 10 fingers. Come with something, when visited give something.

It's a simple rule of honour.

Wow. That's great. I'm just getting to know these things. Or maybe I didn't actually take note of it before now.

So I have noticed over the years how that whenever I give my neighbors of certain tribes food, they end up returning my plate with food cooked by them inside and sometimes even tastier and better than mine. Is it that they don't want to feel indebted to me or is it pride or it's just them paying me back for my kindness? I'm asking this because I want to understand why it happens that way. I feel that their thank you is enough for me. Everytime I get food back, I feel embarrassed as I do not like people paying me back for favours or kind acts rendered by me to them. This is the reason I like being anonymous whenever I have the opportunity to give at a gathering. I don't want someone coming back to tell me thank you. Lol. Please let's hear your views because I'm really curious.

I had similar experience years ago as a tenant in Lagos. The landlord promised paying it off after I made the mandatory 2 years rent payment then but did not; and NEPA made a field day off me before I decided to resolve it myself and offset it from rent. The landlord had no choice after even though it hurt.
Since you are already in the house, get together with other tenants and pay off the outstanding N50000. Then go back to Police station to document it as advance rent. Find something for the Police so they can alert him to your action. When your rent is due for renewal, notify him of the advanced rent and pay him the balance. If he makes noise, go back to the station. Then ensure you guys pay bills regularly and not give him any more money

If we were renewing our rent, it would have been possible to adopt this method. But none of us is renewing. It's so bad that we're all moving out after this first year rent expires. It's that bad. I pray that God grants us favour so we can all build our own houses. No one should be subjected to this inhumane treatments.

My brother most Igbo landlords are known for such cruelty especially those living with their tenants. They make people to hate igbo tribes because of their cruelty and wickedness

This man from what I heard has fought with every tenant who has ever lived in his house and none ever stayed for up to a year. He verbally threatens and insults his tenants for things that can be laughed over. I mean this literally.

Your sort of Tenant "cant reason" with your LandLord:
You have spent less than 5months in the House and has already taken your LLord to the Police Station!
Within that time, you have requested to move-out and get a refund!
angry
Your complaint is not even that the Landlord did not pay 'Nepa' your electricity Bill, but that there was an outstanding on it, that tenants like him owed and refused to pay before balling out. It is not even the LL removing the Light, it is the Nepa people, so let him use Police to arrest them naah undecided
Issorite, be forming 'I too know' and insulting your Landlord, your money will soon expire. grin

If you were smart at all, how much is 50K that all of you cannot come together and contribute it, pay-off Nepa and then continue to enjoy steady Power?
You can buy a Generator, you can be buying Petrol everyday but does not have the common sense to know that it is cheaper, better, more efficient and safer for him to just dash out 15K out of the 50K and let other tenants continue the rest, rather you chose to take your Landlord to the Police Station? shocked

Sorry is your middle name, Penny-Wise, Pound-Foolish.

Let us wait and see how that 'arresting your Landlord will Police' move, will help your case. grin grin

With all due respect you're a kid. A grand kid at that. You need someone to throw tantrums with? Check daycare.

This has nothing to do with your Tribe being Igbo, it is YOO and your attitude that is the problem!
You started very badly and l will think, very arrogantly.
Most people will not level with you, once you use Police to arrest them, from that moment on, it is about who has more wits. undecided

Imagine if, being a stark illiterate as you said, you went to him and cajole him and let him know that you are willing ot talk to the other tenants to raise the money but that he should please let you use it as an extra months rent? Wont he have agreed since he is not taking any amount from his pocket?
But you made yourself his mortal enemy, within a few months of entering his House and yo are here painting him black and blue!

Oga I said what I said. I'm the one staying in the house. You should have asked why I got the police involved in the first place instead of bringing your usual tribal war on nairaland. I'm not cut out for that child's stuff please. Thanks.

Do you think every landlord na human beins? My landlord increase our house rent exponentially and sternly warn us not to come and meet him as soon as the lawyer bring paper, I just contact my lawyer who took the matter up, my additional 6 months remain two months to expire without hassles. People with fear of God are very few in this country, if you are running away from courts cases, you will be cheated in this country.

Can you guys buy wire and ask to be connected to a different line and your landlord on another line? Don't wait for 'nepa' to come to the house, go to their office and discuss a way out with them. If you all are buying fuel, the logical thing will be to pay N500 each every month to off set the previous bill, but with this your landlord, I don't know how that will pan out. Did he inherit the house? Because if he built it, this is a very stupid behavior for someone who laboured to accomplish something and watches his tenants pack out every year.

Someone said this same thing you're advising now but they said it won't be possible to get connected to another line because of the outstanding bill. This was how previous tenants paid lots of money for bills, wire purchase and constant reconnection. I think they tried same thing but it didn't work out. I'll plead with my co-tenenats for us to try one more time.

I would have said you should all go to Nepa office to complain and negotiate a payment plan to clear the bill but if you guys receive estimate bills (instead of metred bills) they can easily turn this into an opportunity to extort you people to meet up with their targets at the office.

Really? I didn't know . And I was actually contemplating going to them. As I'm typing right now there's light all over and I'm sweating in my room. Funny thing is that they gave him the option of even getting three metres free of charge for each of us in the compound but he was still saying lots of nonsense. I wasn't home when this happened it was the other tenants that told me when I got back.

My two cents advice, just be patient. Wait till when your rent is due, you pack out quietly. Don't disturb yourself too much cos it's not worth it at all. Just have a little patience, ignore the situation at hand and focus of saving money to relocate to another place when the rent expires.

Hmmmm... It's just a month and I'm almost running mad. It's well. I'm really trying to save up and get out as soon as my rent is due.

New tenants usually pay more because of agent and agreement fee. I think his behaviour is so that old tenants will become frustrated and pack out, so that he rent out to new tenants.

I do not see an end to this problem. Your landlord is wicked and you, his tenants, are bearing the brunt. Your best shot is to move houses as soon as your rent expires.

Sure! Even the most gentle of us was pushed to his limits the last time and they had a heated argument. Imagine a compound where all occupants are moving out same time That's what we've agreed. It's really painful that there are people as cruel as this on earth.
