I CAN'T SAVE ALL MEN. Part 2

This afternoon, a TLC member visited me in his lion I bought for him in 2012 from Agboola Motors, my trusted car dealer in France. A Peugeot 406 stick with EW7J4 engine, 2000 production (if I remember correctly). Nothing significant has changed from the lion from the day he picked up the lion from my house after the purchase in early December 2012 till today. The engine and gearbox still run like new when I drove the lion today. Engine doesn't burn or short oil after about 7 years of usage in Nigeria and 19 years old from new. Scanning the car was like a waste of time because every unit showed exactly what I saw last the last time he visited me (no fault found), like 3 or 4 years ago. No faults on engine ECU, BSI, ABS, etc. I got that lion for him at 130,000 km mileage. Now the mileage is over 200,000 km and the lion still in almost same shape when he arrived my house from France 7 years ago. Even the 2 oxygen sensors were still "follow come" and in good conditions, including other sensors or components that run the engine and entire vehicle. The sad thing is he wanted a change (another vehicle). Another sad thing is the mental torture or dilemma of letting go of the lion that has never given him a reason to let him go. Fortunately, someone will take over the wonderful experience he has had with the lion soon. A damn reliable and durable lion he is!

It's interesting that about 5 people, few weeks ago, sought my advice on changing their dead EW7J4 engines to EW10J4. Because, according to them, their mechanics adviced them to avoid EW7J4 again because "they are not durable", they claimed. I have no problem swapping in EW10J4 engine in place of EW7J4 engine, as long as it's properly done. In fact, I am all for upgrade or power. I even do these conversions for customers/people. But that the EW10J4 is more durable than EW7J4? You gotta be kidding!

I know how how many dead EW10J4 engines I have changed for customers, including EW12J4 and ES engines. Engine durability has nothing to do with size or power. It all comes down to usage (maintainance, driving style, etc). How many of you guys that complain of dead EW7J4 engines drive them like EW7J4 engines? How many of you run these engines with recommended engine oils? How many of you run these engines with engine cooling systems in factory settings/designs? How many of you bought non abused lions with these engines? Suddenly, the problem is with the engine, not your choices, right? Yet other human beings are running same lions with same or identical engines with higher mileages than yours and still running like new and yours die every now and then. If you don't deal with why your EW7J4 engine died before you decide to swap in EW10J4, you gonna be replacing the EW10J4 soon after the swap. Because other people have proved you wrong that EW7J4 was never the problem.

I do watch as people debate about engine oils they use in their lions. These days, I choose to keep mute in such discussions, since experience teaches better than mere words. After all, a guy called few years ago to prove to me that Total Quartz 5000 worked better in ES9J4S engine in his 607 than the recommended Total Quartz 9000 I suggested to people online for that V6 engine years ago. According to him, the Quartz 9000 (5w-40) was overheating his engine, while the Quartz 5000 (20w-50) wasn't. Of course, he mistook engine oil temperature guage for coolant temperature gauge. He didn't call to know why my advice was wrong. He called to tell me to stop "misleading people", according to him. He saved me the saliva I would have wasted in the explanation and left him to hold unto his belief on Total Quartz 9000 and ES9J4S engine. The TLC member that came this evening lives very far away from me, in another state. Yet, he kept to the advice I gave him the day he collected his lion from me that afternoon in 2012, "maintain recommended engine oil in this lion". Even when his cooling system thermostat failed around 170,000 km mileage, he put another back without tampering the factory fan connections like most Nigerians would do otherwise. I have never met his mechanic or spoken with him for all these years he has been using his lion, but he chose his mechanic by himself, whom from all indications, has not abused the lion in any way, shape or form. Even though he was giving me credit this afternoon for getting him a clean durable lion that has lasted or served him all these years, but some of the credit go to him too. Because he chose to "SAVE HIMSELF".

"I love my lion" is just mere words if you feel differently from those words. For how you feel about your lion determines decisions or choices you make to keep the lion safe or in good shape. Maybe you have some principles, belief or problem with loving material things. Well, I can't help you on that. But you ever wondered why I own and drive 3 V6 lions and never complained of financial drain from them? Ever wondered why they are always in good shape or conditions, almost as they were when I got them, even better? It's not because I am an expert in Peugeot or spend fortune in keeping them in good shape. It's because I don't do to them what most Nigerians do to their Lions. It takes months for me to plug in scan tools in my lions sometimes. And most of the times, it's for knowing which of the fuel injectors that needs cleaning when engine misfire occurs (thanks to fuel quality in Nigeria). Nigerian mechanics are not usually the problem when it comes to abuse of lions on Nigerian roads. I am not ruling them out completely, but you do have a choice for who you give your lion key to or open the bonnet for. For you can't take away that responsibility on something you have authority over.

It's easy to cry "Help" when you choose to buy an abused lion with hope to deal with the nightmares that come after purchase, but you probably didn't think it through how long the nightmare will linger? It's easy to find anyone that can hold spanner to work on your lion, but can be challenging to accept you made that choice to wreck your lion and blame others instead. It's easy to pour any liquid in your engine and do whatever thy will with the engine cooling system, but would you be man enough to keep replacing the engine and never complain about it?

I can only preach what I know and you decide what you choose to do with it. For you can either save yourself or perpetually remain a victim.

Drive with pride!

Autos / Consultancy Service With Lion King / Ikenna351 *Ended* by Ikenna351(m): 12:33am On Jan 12, 2019
CONSULTANCY SERVICE WITH LION KING / IKENNA351

A lot of people have brought Lions to me for diagnosis & repairs, only to be informed that their newly acquired Lions were running with wrong or tampered Engine ECUs and BSI units or abused wiring harnesses which make their Lions undrivable or with horrible issues.

A lot of people have purchased lions with engines, transmissions or suspensions that were against their original wants in cars because of no professional guidance or explanation of available engines, transmissions or suspensions that would have best serve their wants in Peugeot models they are interested in.

Don’t make yourself a Victim. With N20,000. (Twenty Thousand Naira), I can prevent these nightmares for you when choosing a used Peugeot Vehicle to acquire, both Tokunbo & Nigerian used . I have been doing it for years for clients. You can choose to utilize my knowledge on these Peugeot Vehicles to get a sound clean used Lion of your dream or you choose other options available to you. You always have a choice, always do. Your choices determine your next experience or what you attract into your experiences.

If your desire is to have private consultation with a Peugeot specialist like me on lion's maintainance tips, how to avoid abusing lions or how to keep a lion in good condition for a very long time, from time to time until you get hang of it, then this N20,000 consultancy service will serve you as well.

Likewise, this service is available for those interested in buying Brand New Peugeot Vehicles as well. Now, you get to know all trims and specifications available for a particular model of Lion you are interested in before purchase. I will interpret the features, engine and transmissions available for the Lion model you are interested in, to help you choose which one best suit your purpose, need or want in a new Peugeot.

And when you employ my service to purchase a lion, you will be receiving Peugeot maintenance tips regularly from me for some months, to prevent abuse of your newly acquired lion.

I charge N20,000 (Twenty Thousand Naira) per a Peugeot vehicle, which also includes the maintenance tips and other clarifications on the lion you request for, from time to time.

If you have a particular lion in mind that you already want to purchase and the lion is very far from Abuja and you need the lion to be physically inspected before purchase, note that this service does not cover it. However, if all you need is advice and guide on getting a good lion in good condition, what to look out for if you have to inspect the lion by yourself, how to detect a severely abused lion on sale or you need a Peugeot expert review of Lions you are considering to buy to help you understand them and make your choice, then this service will serve you on that option too. So, if you are not comfortable with the above listed conditions, then don't pay or request for this service.

Note that if after contacting me privately, I sent you this, you read this piece and you still choose not to employ this service, I will not attend to you privately if you try to get or manipulate this service for free from me.

Car Talk / Re: Total, Forte, Conoil, oando, Mobil1 And MRS Synthetics Oils by Ikenna351(m): 10:09pm On Jan 02, 2019
sooperrescue:

Nooo. it still has its better side. A V6 engine with 12 plugs of that era will gladly welcome that oil. I worked with Q9000 for 3 years full time and it was a delight to the engines then but its era is over as regards newer engines as old as 2009. But does Total really have engine oils for newer cars? I don't think so. The 5w30 is mainly imported to meet the needs of Peugeot owners and if you have the gasoline engines only warning for your car, then it is not advisable to use an oil that is suitable for petrol and diesel engine oil. I am still studying the effect of using such engine oils on newer 4 cylinder engines that requires 0w20.

sooperrescue:

Bros, I will suggest that you create the thread on Liqui Moly and then invite me to give an opinion. Like I stated earlier, this thread is for our local oils sold openly and we wanted to know why we are running to these foreign brands when we have synthetic oils produced for the local market. Until I even started this thread, I did not even know that these oils were suitable for Nothing SN. But Oando has changed from 5w40 to 5w30 while Total has added API SN 5w30 which was not there before the beginning of the thread. Seahorse will soon roll out its synthetic oils and it is going to change the market. Many oil dealers are still producing obsolete oils but when they realise that there is no buyer, they will take it back the way Oando withdrew all their oils XL, SM, and SL and turned everything to SL. But we still need to do more because the 5w30 usage practically ended for majority of the vehicles of 2009 models and 10 years down the line, no local oil company is thinking of meeting up to the standard of the current 0w20, which from all that I have seen is the top notch all weather engine oil. There are cars that also require 0w16 and we don't know what to do about fulfilling the oil requirements of the car. Why buy a car and let the system destroy it for you. When Seahorse enters the market, who will bother about Castrol or Liqui Moly? When the products from Seahorse arrives at my office, we will talk about it and then we will be relieved that we have eliminated one of the major factors destroying our vehicles and then move to the next phase to eradicate substandard mechanics, spare parts and room and parlour car dealers. It is for our good. Imagine the guy that bought brand new FORD vehicles and the engines knocked using the wrong oils. If he had access to good oils, he will never buy Q9000, except to use for his generator.

Your claim on Total Quartz 9000 is very wrong. Just because the Ford guy claimed the oil wrecked his Ford engines doesn't make the oil a bad one. First, the oil grade wasn't recommended for his engines, as he admitted, which can wreck an engine overtime. 2nd, what makes you think it was the Engine oil that wrecked his engines? Did you asked about the state of the Engine cooling systems of those vehicles, if they were still factory? Was he racing the Engine when cold? You really want to tell me only Engine oils wreck engines? Or just because he said so, he must be right, even if he was not aware of other factors that could contribute to the rapid death of both Engines? Or you really believe customer is always right even when he may not have a clue or knowledge on the subject?

As old as you might think Total Quartz 9000 5w-40 & 0w-30 are, there are over 60% of Lions on Nigerian roads these two oil grades are designed for: The TU, XU, EW & ES Engines (excluding Total Quartz 9000 0w-30 for XU, early TU series and EW12J4). Lions that posses these Engines are 206, 207, 306, 307, 406, 407, 607, 807, etc. To claim these 2 oil grades are no longer needed in Nigeria when these listed lions above that are scattered all over Nigerian roads, especially the northern parts of the country, is not being objective.

One of my Lions, D9 V6, is 19 years old and has been running on Total Quartz 9000 5w-40 from new (according to the log book) and continued in my 6 years ownership. The Engine basically performs like new at his age and with over 200,000 km mileage. I do Engine oil change maximum of 10 months and minimum of 8 months with the same oil you appear to condemn, yet I have never top up oil before oil change. I wonder where you guys get all these theories about engine oils recommended for PSA Engines!

For your information, the available Total 5w-30 Engine oil in Nigeria ( Total Quartz Ineo MC3 5w-30) is not and was never produced or recommended for PSA (Peugeot) engines (VTi, THP or EP6 engines). The recommended or 5w-30 Engine oil grade specifically produced by Total for PSA Engines is Total Quartz Ineo ECS 5w-30. The MC3 5w-30 is recommended for Non-PSA Engines. Total Quartz Ineo First 0w-30 is also specifically produced for PSA VTi, THP or PureTech engines by Total. So, anyone that chooses to use the available MC3 5w-30 in lions is on his own. Meaning, if the oil works for your lion, good for you; if it wrecks your lion Engine, good for you.

The new Total Quartz Ineo ECS 5w-30 can also be used in place of the old Total Quartz 9000 5w-40 & 9000 0w-30 on the TU, EW & ES PSA Engines (excluding earlier TU Engines and EW12J4). But it doesn't make Quartz 9000 a bad oil on those Engines either.

Anyone that buys Total oils in open market in Nigeria and complain later it wrecked his Engine is not serious.
