Foreign AffairsAmazon Boss Jeff Bezos And Wife Mackenzie Divorce by iko123(op): 7:46am On Jan 10, 2019
The pair announced the move in a joint statement on Wednesday on Twitter.

"After a long period of loving exploration and trial separation, we have decided to divorce and continue our shared lives as friends," the couple said in the statement.

Amazon, formed 25 years ago, this week eclipsed Microsoft to become the world's most valuable listed company.

Mr Bezos, 54, who founded Amazon, is the world's wealthiest man according to the Bloomberg Billionaire Index , with an estimated wealth of $137bn, some $45bn ahead of Bill Gates.

The 48-year-old MacKenzie Bezos is a novelist, the author of The Testing of Luther Albright (2005) and Traps (2013).

We feel incredibly lucky to have found each other and deeply grateful for every one of the years we have been married to each other," the couple's statement said.

If we had known we would separate after 25 years, we would do it all again. We've had such a great life together as a married couple and we also see wonderful futures ahead, as parents, friends, partners in ventures and projects, and as individuals pursuing ventures and adventures.

Though the labels might be different, we remain a family, and we remain cherished friends."

Last year they launched a charity project together, the Day One Fund , with the aim of helping homeless families and building pre-schools in low-income communities.

The couple have four children - three sons, and an adopted daughter.

US media report that Mr Bezos has been romantically involved with a former Fox TV host, Lauren Sánchez .

Entertainment news site TMZ, citing sources linked to Ms Sánchez, said the presenter has been "seeing" Mr Bezos as of late last year.

In 2013, MacKenzie Bezos told Vogue Magazine that she had met Jeff when he interviewed her for a job at a hedge fund in New York .

They got engaged after three months of dating and married shortly after, in 1993.

One year later he founded Amazon - which began as an online book retailer.

The company has since expanded into an e-commerce giant.

Amazon was worth $797bn (£634bn) when the US stock market closed on Monday, after rising 3.4% and moving past Microsoft, valued at $789bn.

PoliticsGovernor Ortom: No Amount Of Persecution Will Make Me Return To APC by iko123(op): 6:49am On Aug 12, 2018
Samuel Ortom, governor of Benue state, says no amount of “torment or persecution” will make him reconsider his defection from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a statement issued on his behalf by Terver Akase, his chief press secretary, the governor accused the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) of being a strike squad of the ruling party.
He also alleged that the federal government had been using the anti-graft agency to “cripple governance in the state.”
“After succumbing to nationwide condemnation of its illegal freezing of Benue State Government accounts, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC has resorted to yet another shameful act in its desperation to cripple governance in the state,” the statement read.
“The anti-graft agency’s latest move is the bandying of figures in national dailies claiming that such figures are those of transactions in the accounts owned by the Benue State Government.
“It released figures allegedly withdrawn from the Benue State Government accounts without disclosing the dates of the withdrawals and the period during which they were made.
The commission has also not been able to state accounts into which such monies withdrawn were paid to prove that the funds had been diverted.
“EFCC is contented with publishing the figures without stating how impropriety has been established.
“Are government monies supposed to be kept in the accounts indefinitely without expenditure? Their objective is apparently to give Governor Samuel Ortom and his administration a bad name.
“On this score, it is clear that the EFCC has now become both a strike squad of the APC for torment, and their law court for the trial and conviction of political opponents.”

Politics2019: Okorocha Has Ruined Apc’s Chances In Igbo Land – Osita Okechukwu by iko123(op): 10:13pm On Aug 11, 2018
The Director-General of the Voice of Nigeria, VON, Osita Okechukwu, has said that Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State will ruin the chances of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the South East, come 2019.
Okechukwu noted that the governor had succeeded in “demarketing” APC in the South East.

While highlighting the governor’s problem with the Catholic church, Okechukwu wondered how Okorocha can make them vote for APC.

Speaking with The Sun, Okechukwu said, ” Governor Okorocha to be honest with you, was the one that brought the problem in APC. I pleaded with him not to run for presidency and that there is a zoning convention and that the zoning convention has a moral weight even though it is not a law. If you had listened, when Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu got into negotiations with President Buhari, I told him that he was going to get over 1000 delegates from the South West.

” It paid off. I told the leadership of the APC not to promote Okorocha in the South East. Anybody promoting Okorocha is demarketing the APC because you do not go to a community and start defending a notorious boy or girl. If you go to a community and the girl you want to marry is the one that is notorious, then on the marriage day, the people might not attend. It is customary.

“People would be asking you why did you marry the girl; they will tell you that the other girl is better. Governor Okorocha knew that former Governor, Ikedi Ohakim ran into trouble with the Catholic church in Imo State and the same Catholic church, you Okorocha are at war with them again. So, how can you get votes around there? Where will you get the votes? It is just like going to Kano and fight with the Muslims. How will you get votes there?

“So, that is it; I am not saying this to castigate him; I have great respect for him but I am also pleading with him to retrace his own steps; go back and appease your people. I am not from Imo but go back and appease your people. But anybody who is promoting Okorocha is not helping the Igbo people and the APC.

“Anybody promoting Okorocha as the face of the APC in the South East is not helping the party. Maybe the person does not want the APC to do well in the zone. And it is Okorocha that made himself unpopular in the South East; it is not Osita Okechukwu. He is demarketing the APC and he cannot change because he is suffering from what is called narcissism.”

PoliticsEkiti Murder: Fayemi Commiserates With Ojo’s Family, Urges Police To Find Killer by iko123(op): 4:55pm On Aug 11, 2018
The media office of Ekiti State Governor-Elect, Dr Kayode Fayemi, has commiserated with the family of the member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bunmi Ojo, who was on Friday evening killed by gunmen in Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital.

The late Ojo, who was a member of the Federal Character Commission, was watching a football match with other soccer fans in Adebayo area of the state capital, when assailants opened fired on him.

In a statement by his Director of Media and Publicity, Wole Olujobi, Fayemi expressed shock and sadness over the late Ojo’s murder, saying that the killing of the late politician was a sad commentary that shattered the relative peace the state had enjoyed after the July 14 governorship poll.

While commiserating with the family of the late politician, Fayemi charged security agencies to live up to their responsibility by getting to the root of the killing and bringing the perpetrators to justice.

The Governor-Elect, who noted that he had known Ojo at a younger age as an activist with vision and commitment to human development, said: “This is a sad development that should not be allowed to go away without getting to the root of this killing, but then the public must give security agencies chance to do their job to get to the root of this sad development and security agencies are enjoined to swing into action to apprehend the perpetrators of this heinous crime to check the activities of criminals in Ekiti State.

“This is the minimum responsibility the security agencies owe the public so that Ekiti people can live in peace without any threat to the security and peace of the state.

“While commiserating with the family of the deceased and entire members of APC, we pray God to grant him eternal rest,” the statement concluded.

BusinessDangote Oil Refinery May Be Delayed Till 2022 by iko123(op): 9:43am On Aug 11, 2018
The oil refinery being built in Lagos by Dangote Group is unlikely to start production until 2022, two years later than the target date.
Reuters quoted sources with direct knowledge of the matter as saying this in a report on Friday.
The 650,000 barrel per day refinery, set to be Africa’s biggest, is expected to boost Nigeria’s growth and turn the country from an importer of refined products into an exporter.
Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, told Reuters last month that he hoped to finish building the refinery in 2019 and to start production in early 2020.
However, the sources, who were said to have been on the site many times, said they did not expect petrol or diesel output before early 2022 and even then, many units at the refinery and accompanying petrochemical plant would not be complete.
The Executive Director, Dangote Group, Devakumar Edwin, who oversees the project, described the suggestion that the refinery was unlikely to start production until 2022 as the product of “someone’s wild imagination”.
Ninety-five per cent of engineering has been completed; 90 per cent of procurement has been completed.”
“We started civil works in July last year and we have scheduled two and a half years for mechanical completion,” he said, referring to the point where a plant is ready to be handed over for inauguration.
Dangote, who expects the project to cost $12-14bn, said in July he had raised more than $4.5bn.
“I’ve never seen a refinery of that scale built in two years. It’s highly improbable due to the sequence of events that need to happen; it cannot be fast-tracked safely,” one of the sources advising the Nigerian government said.
The sources said a refinery on such a scale would likely need five years to complete and the piling underpinning the plant had only started in the second half of last year and would take some more months to complete.
Extra piling was needed to support the plant’s units in the swampy area, causing an unforeseen delay, the sources said.
Analysts also anticipate delays owing to the scale of the project in an area with limited infrastructure.
“In our forecast, we are putting late 2021 at the earliest for some petrol production but it may slip to 2022,” said Gary Still, executive director of CITAC, a specialist consulting company focused on African downstream energy.
Fuel shortages are common in Nigeria, despite the country of 180 million people being Africa’s biggest oil producer.
The existing 445,000 bpd refining system operates well below capacity due to corruption and lack of investment, leaving the state oil firm to import the bulk of its petrol and diesel needs paid for with cargoes of crude oil.
Edwin told Reuters last month that more than half the plant’s output could be exported after covering domestic needs.

PoliticsCourt Summons EFCC Over Freezing Of Benue’s Account by iko123(op): 8:47pm On Aug 09, 2018
A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, on Thursday ordered the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), to appear before it over the freezing the Benue government account.
NAN reports that the vacation judge, Justice Babatunde Quadri, gave the order after listening to submissions by counsel to the Benue Government, Mr Emeka Etiaba (SAN).
Other defendants in the suit are the Speaker, Benue House of Assembly, the Clerk, Benue House of Assembly, Benue House of Assembly, and the Auditor General, Benue State.
The court further directed the state government to serve all the relevant processes in the suit on the EFFC and other respondents before the next adjourned date.
Etiaba said the suit was filed in Makurdi, but he secured leave of court for the matter to be heard by a vacation court due to its urgent nature and since there was no vacation court in Makurdi.
Etiaba prayed the court to issue a preservative order restraining the EFCC from investigating the accounts of the state under any guise.
This, he said, was particularly without due authorisation of the Benue House of Assembly in line with Sections 128 and 129 of the Constitution.
The plaintiff also wants the court to determine among others:
“Whether by virtue of Sections 6, 7 and 38(1) of the EFCC Act 2004 or any other law, the EFCC or any other body has the power to investigate or inquire into the accounts of Benue Government.
“This is having regards to the clear provisions of Sections 1 ( 1) and (3), 125(2), (4) and (6), 128 and 129 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended).
“Upon favourable determination of the questions, the plaintiff is seeking a declaration that by the provisions of Sections 6, 7 and 38(1) of the EFCC Act and any other law, the EFCC or any other body does not have the power to inquire into the accounts of Benue Government.
“A declaration that in the absence of any resolution duly passed by the Benue House of Assembly pursuant to Sections 128 and 129 of the Constitution authorising the EFCC or any other body to investigate the accounts of Benue Government, the EFCC or any other body cannot commence or continue investigations with respect thereof.’’
The plaintiff also wants an order of perpetual injunction restraining the defendants from surrendering or sharing their powers of control over public funds of Benue as provided under Sections 128 and 129 of the Constitution to any other body, authority or person.
The matter was adjourned until Aug. 14 for hearing.

SportsChris Giwa Retakes NFF Office After DSS Operatives Withdraw by iko123(op): 10:07pm On Aug 08, 2018
Chris Giwa and his executive committee have retaken the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) office in Abuja after operatives of Department for State Security withdrew their siege there.
The Giwa group is locked in a power tussle with the faction led by Amaju Pinnick.
An official of the Giwa group revealed that “We are back in control of the secretariat.
“The acting general secretary, Emmanuel Ikpeme, is here and so are the other board members.”
Many secretariat staff rejoiced on Giwa’s return.
Pinnick and Mohammed Sanusi are away in France at the 2018 FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup.
Last month, DSS men acting on “orders from above” stormed the NFF office commando style to return Mohammed Sanusi to the secretariat despite a subsisting court order against the Pinnick group.
However, following yesterday’s sack of DSS director general Lawal Daura, the security operatives were withdrawn today.

PoliticsOsun 2018: Senator Adeleke Wins In Court by iko123(op): 8:52pm On Aug 08, 2018
An Osogbo High Court in Osun has cleared Sen. Ademola Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to contest the Sept. 22 governorship election in the state.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the presiding judge, Justice David Oladimeji, gave the ruling on Wednesday.
Oladimeji said the plaintiff Counsel, Mr Olufemi Ayandokun, failed to address the issue of forgery in the originating summons.
The judge held that the maker of the purported certificate must be called upon to deny the certificate issued to Adeleke before it could be described as forged.
Oladimeji stated that the plaintiff also failed to prove the ingredients of forgery but only relied on the documents as presented to the court.
He said the case “lacks merit” and accordingly dismissed it.
The Defence counsel, Mr Edmund Beriomoni, thanked the court for a well-considered ruling.
Two members of the PDP in the state, Rasheed Olabayo and Oluwaseun Idowu, had challenged the primary election of the party won by Adeleke, contending that he did not satisfy the constitutional requirements to contest the governorship election.
The plaintiffs among others urged the court to set aside the election, alleging that Adeleke did not submit his secondary school certificate.
Adeleke was declared the winner in the PDP primary election held on July 21.
He polled 1,569 votes to beat his closest rival, Dr Akin Ogunbiyi, who polled 1,562.

PoliticsSenator Saraki Calls Emergency Meeting Of National Assembly Leaders by iko123(op): 7:07pm On Aug 06, 2018
The President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki, has convened a meeting of the leaderships of the two chambers of the National Assembly.
The meeting, expected to have in attendance principal officers of the Senate and the House of Representatives, is scheduled to hold Tuesday afternoon.
A source who confirmed the meeting to this newspaper said the meeting would touch on pressing national issues seeking the urgent attention of the National Assembly.
The officials are expected to meet for one hour beginning at noon.
The source added that the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC), Mahmood Yakubu, will then meet with the lawmakers at 1 p.m.
Issues expected to be on the agenda of the meeting include the string of defections in the political space, the rumoured plan to impeach Mr. Saraki and the pending 2019 elections supplementary budget, among others.
The leadership, our sources said, might consider the possibility of reconvening the National Assembly to discuss urgent and important national issues pending before the lawmakers.
Some APC senators, including Ali Ndume and Ahmed Lawal, have insisted that the long adjournment of the National Assembly by Mr. Saraki was not in the best interest of the country.
A media aide to Mr Saraki, Yusuph Olaniyonu, confirmed his principal is planning a meeting but declined to provide details.
The Senate and the House of Representatives proceeded on annual recess on July 24 to reconvene on September 25.

It is 30 Years of making me LAUGH.
It is 30 Years of telling me, “Baby, raise your hands and take down that roof!”
The times I say, “But I can’t”, you jokingly rebuke me and say, “Baby, YOU CAN DO ALL THINGS THROUGH CHRIST!”. You gave MEANING to ME!

Politics2019: Buhari Is A Dictator, We’ll Not Keep Quiet – Amaechi by iko123(op): 10:33am On Aug 04, 2018
A First republic Minister of Aviation, Mbazulike Amaechi has described President Muhammadu Buhari as a dictator, calling on Nigerians to end dictatorship in 2019.
According to him, there was no difference between Buhari as military Head of State and Buhari as a democratic president.
The politician was quoted by Vanguard as saying that Buhari had violated all the rules of democracy, recalling that he was the only head of State to have overthrown a civilian government.
Amaechi said, “Nigeria is practicing dictatorship. Of all the military heads of state, it’s only Buhari that overthrew a democratic government.
“Other dictators overthrew military regimes. He is still a dictator. I have been saying it.
“He may have come in through a democratic regime but there is no difference between Buhari the dictator and Buhari the President.
“Whether he is wearing khaki or agbada, he is the same. Nigerians must fight to regain the country.
“Amongst all those who fought for the independence of Nigeria, I’m the only one still alive and I urge all the political parties to come together and eschew dictatorship in the country.
“We cannot continue like this because what is happening now has not happened in Nigeria before where institutions of democracy like the legislature and the judiciary are being trampled upon. It is not something to keep quiet about.
“It is something Nigerians should fight to stop because it is dictatorship.”
