Owerri A Federal High Court sitting in Owerri, yesterday, declared null and void the May 5 ward congress of the Imo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC). The court also nullified the consequent local government and state congresses of the party which saw a faction loyal to the deputy governor of the state, Eze Madumere and some senators having a field day with their candidates emerging as winners. The High Court judgement, delivered by Justice Lewis Allagoa, was sequel to a suit filed by a faction of the party loyal to Governor Rochas Okorocha challenging the congress conducted by Madumere and others. The presiding judge, Justice Lewis Allagoa, in a judgement that lasted for one hour ordered APC to conduct fresh election in the state. The judge hinged his judgement on the recorded press interview between the Imo State Commissioner of Police, Okorocha and Senator Osita Izunaso; and a report of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), which confirmed that there was no APC ward congress in Imo State on May 5. But the convener of the Imo State APC Coalition Restoration, Dr. Theodore Ekechi, said they were studying the judgement. However, a statement by Okorocha’s Chief Press Secretary, Sam Onwuemeodo, quoted the governor as saying that the judgement had authenticated his sustained claim and that of patriotic leaders of APC in Imo that the congresses did not hold. PRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari yesterday, said the political future of Igbo in Nigeria depends on his re-election in 2019. Buhari stated this at the Southeast mega rally at Dan Anyiam Stadium in Imo State, organized by Governor Rochas Okorocha. This is as notable Igbo leaders in APC in the South East region shunned Okorocha’s rally. Former governor of Abia State, Orji Uzor Kalu; serving ministers from the zone; serving senators from the zone; former senators, House of Representatives members from the zone were absent. Also, the state Deputy Governor, Eze Madumere, Senator Ifeanyi Araraume, former speakers of the State House of Assembly, former commissioners under Okorocha and over 150 APC leaders in the state shunned the rally. Buhari was represented by the Secretary to the Federal Government of the Federation, SGF, Boss Mustapha. He said: “The people of the South East are part of Nigeria and they have the right to make claim where the need arises and we will all support them. “The Igbo are not good starters. But whenever they start, they can catch it. Let me say this, 2019 is an election that will make or mar the chances of Igbo in Nigeria. I want Igbo to make a paradigm shift. “We have to know that the position of the presidency is negotiable. You can argue it from the point of strength and not from the point of weakness. 2019 will determine the future of this country. Let me say this, there are 18 Christians and 18 Muslims in Buhari’s cabinet. Even the Vice President is a Christian. I see a whole lot of people coming out to be president. Let me tell them Nigeria is not a Banana republic.” In his remark, the national chairman of APC, Adams Oshiomhole, said: “In politics, what you see is what you believe. I am impressed with the crowd that I have seen here. It is a sign that the Igbo people love Buhari. “We are tired of PDP deceiving the people. What they could not do in 16 years, they want us to do it in 3 years. How many times did they invite the Igbo to the ground- breaking ceremony of the second Niger Bridge? “Many have spoken on the enormous projects of the Federal Government in this part of the country, but it is not yet over. More are cooking.” Speaking also, the Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha said: “Let me start by saying that Igbo people love Buhari and the president should know that Igbo people love him. “I am happy for our new brand National Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole. I describe him as the silencer of PDP. Adams Oshiomhole is a hope of APC and we look up to him to give us the best. “We are one in South East. We are celebrating the leadership of President Buhari. People have argued that we made a mistake. It is just that in 2015, Igbo did not believe in Buhari but in 2018, Igbo now believe in Buhari.” Also speaking at the rally, former governor of Bornu State, Modu Sherriff, said: “Okorocha is the man of the people. There is no part of this country Okorocha has not received a title. I am very happy with what I have seen today. It means that Okorocha is in charge. We believe that in 2019, the Igbo will give Buhari five million votes.” Former governor of Bayelsa State, Timipre Sylva, said: “From the South South part of the country, we will give Buhari 80 per cent of our votes.” Source : http://www.currentgist.com.ng/2018/07/president-muhammadu-buhari-yesterday.html?m=1

Often times Parents trivialize kids’ safety in the home. We leave the safety of our kids to maid and caregivers. As kids grow, they learn many things. They would love to touch and feel the things they see around them, which helps their minds and body to develop. They some sustain injuries from home accidents that often lead to permanent deformities. Hence, it is very important that you teach about safety at home to kids. Here are some tips for your kids’ safety. • Do not Leave Your Kids Alone in the Water: Kids love to splash in the water, whether it is a bath tub or a swimming pool. Though it is a fun time, chances of accidents like drowning can occur in water tubs or pools. Make sure the water level is not more than the waist line of your kid. Never leave your kids unattended, even for a second when the phone rings or doorbell rings. Leave strict instructions to your kids that there must be no pushing while enjoying the bathtub. • Always remember EDITH (Exit Drill in The Home) Do this often from the living room to outside of the house. Walk briskly from the kitchen to your safe muster point. Don’t forget to check your toilet, children room as you exit (Junior or Mimi may be there) and close all door behind you as you exit • Take detergent away from Your Kids: All cleaning products and detergent have dangerous chemicals in them which make it highly poisonous if swallowed. Ensure there are no cleaning products in and around the rooms where your kids can reach. Install doors to all your cabinets and keep them locked after every use. Never store these detergents as food in disguise or in food containers. • Keep The Sleeping Areas of Your Child Uncovered: If you have an infant at home, make sure that you keep the crib as bare as possible because soft pillows, stuffed dolls or lots of bed covers might suffocate your baby accidentally. • Protect All the Electrical Outlets and bare Wires at Home: Make sure that all electrical sockets which you might not be using at the moment are covered. Throw away the electrical gadgets or repair the electric cords which are damaged. Insulate the bare wires or fix them using casing to cover it. Teach kids about the dangers of electric shock and the different between a conductor and insulator. • Put Away sharp objects: If you have a sharp object at home, it is your full responsibility to make sure they are locked in a safe place which cannot be accessed by your kids easily. Teach your kids about the dangers of using them. • Set a Smoke Alarm At Home: Install a smoke alarm at home and always check whether it is working fine. Teach your kids about fire alarm, its beep sound and have a fire escape plan cleared when. It is important to install gas detector to signal when there are gas leakages from the kitchen. • Safety while Playing with a Pet: Pets are very affectionate but some actions of your kids like pulling the tail or the ear can piss them off. Teach your kids to be gentle with the pet and refrain from playing rough games with the pet. Tell them not to go near the dog when he is having his food or try to take away a treat or bone from his mouth. Warn your child to stay away from the pet, which is growling or showing off his teeth as it would harm them. • Better Safe than Sorry: To make sure that your kid is safe, learn first aid and keep a kit handy; it is also a good idea to learn CPR or cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Have the contact numbers of your friends, neighbors, pediatrician, Police, Neighborhood watch, etc., written on a big sheet on the wall, apart from storing it in the phone. If your child is old enough to know your home address, then teach him to dial such emergency numbers. No matter how careful you are, it is essential that you stay prepared in case there is an emergency condition. Fortunately, mishaps or accidents can certainly be avoided through preventive measures and by educating your kids about safety rules to be followed at home . Happy safe parenting! http://www.currentgist.com.ng/2018/07/tips-for-safety-of-kids-at-home.html?m=1

A 'nightmare glitch' has hit some users of Samsung phones and is sending user's photos to random contacts. The problem came to light on when a Samsung user took to Reddit -an American social news and discussion forum , to reveal his entire photo gallery was sent to his girlfriend without his knowledge. The forum members indicate that Galaxy S9 and S9+ devices are affected, but may not be the only ones afflicted with the bug. According to reports, the Messages app does not even show users that files have been sent, and many users said the only found out after they got a response from the recipient of the random photos sent to them. Samsung is encouraging those experiencing this issue to call the company directly at 1-800-SAMSUNG. Samsung owners worried about the issue can go into their phone's app settings and revoke Samsung Messages' ability to access storage. They can also switch to a different texting app like Android Messages http://www.currentgist.com.ng/2018/07/samsung-user-claims-his-phone-sent-his.html?m=1 |

South sudan President Salva Kiir and his rival Riek Machar have agreed to a "permanent" ceasefire to take effect within 72 hours, raising hopes of a peace deal to end their country's devastating civil war. All parties have agreed on a permanent ceasefire within 72 hours of signing the Khartoum Document," announced Sudan's Foreign Minister Al-Dirdiri Mohamed Ahmed, on Wednesday. Kiir and Machar, a former vice president of South Sudan, signed the document in the presence of Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir in the Sudanese capital, Khartoum. The latest push for peace in South Sudan comes as part of a fresh bid launched by East African leaders with the two fighting factions facing a looming deadline to avert UN sanction. Several previous ceasefire agreements have been violated. The Khartoum negotiations came after a round of talks brokered by Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed last week in Addis Ababa faltered. On arriving in Khartoum, Kiir and Machar expressed their readiness to talk peace as the dialogue opened in the presence of Bashir and Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni. South Sudan's war, which has killed tens of thousands of people and displaced about four million, broke out in December 2013 when Kiir accused his then-deputy Machar of plotting a coup, dashing the optimism that accompanied independence from Sudan just two years earlier. http://www.currentgist.com.ng/2018/06/south-sudan-rivals-agree-to-permanent.html?m=1

The United States Supreme Court has upheld President Donald Trump's controversial order blocking entry by people from several Muslim-majority countries, rejecting a challenge that it discriminated against Muslims or exceeded his authority. The 5-4 decision on Tuesday is the court's first substantive ruling on a Trump administration policy. The court held that the challengers had failed to show that the ban violates either US immigration law or the Constitution's First Amendment prohibition on the government favouring one religion over another. Lower courts had previously blocked the travel ban, the third version of a policy Trump first pursued a week after taking office in January 2017. But on December 4, the high court allowed it to go fully into effect while the legal challenge continued. The challengers, led by the state of Hawaii, argued the policy was motivated by Trump's enmity towards Muslims The White House maintains the ban targets individuals from countries that have failed to provide enough information to allow for proper vetting of prospective travellers. Trump also says it is needed on matters of national security. The current ban, announced in September, prohibits entry into the US by most people from Iran, Libya, Somalia, Syria and Yemen. It has been widely criticised by human rights and refugee advocacy groups. http://www.currentgist.com.ng/2018/06/us-supreme-court-upholds-trump-travel.html?m=1

There is this notion that most men are attracted to women with facial mole. This has made women who want it so badly to go as far as faking it just to look charming and get the attention of their male counterpart. Moles occur when cells in the skin grow in a cluster instead of being spread throughout the skin. Mole can occur anywhere in our skin. But the dark mole by the mouth is considered unique and a ‘’beauty mark’’. Some many beautiful women are known for their prominent facial mole .Marilyn Monroe, Gabriel Bouys are few celebrities with moles. They don’t hide them with their make-up. In our society today, women go about with fake facial mole to show strong desire for such mark in their faces. Studies have shown that moles do not require sunlight in order to form, sun exposure does tend to increase the number of moles a person has or cause it to darken and grow larger. In fact, in places like china, moles have fortuitous meaning. It is believed that women with facial moles will have fame and fortune. Women with natural mole should not worry because it’s a matter of time; they will be famous and rich. This may be the reason for the increase in fake facial mole among women. Here are some Reasons why facial moles are considered attractive: • It makes one face to has its own sex appeal • It gives you gorgeous smiles • Dimples with mole are deadly combination • It draws attention to your mouth Therefore, the next time you meet a lady with facial mole weather fake or natural, give her a lovely smile. Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso-the immediate past governor of Kano said that he deliberately avoided the APC national convention held on Saturday and Sunday to avoid breakdown of law and order. Mr. Kwankwaso said he and his supporters intended to attend the convention but changed their minds because the outgoing national executive council led by John Odigie-Oyegun refused to recognise the congresses that favoured his loyalists at the state, local government and wards in Kano. He further stated that presenting themselves at such an important event will not be in the overall interest of the entire convention that is assuming we are allowed access into the convention ground. “Because there are high chances that our presence could create embarrassments and a lot of friction similar or even worse than what occurred in the pavilions of delegations from Imo and Delta States during yesterday’s convention. However, as the new EXCO settles to start the efforts of uniting the party we wish you the very best,” he said. He congratulated the newly elected national chairman of the APC, Adams Oshiomole, and others who emerged leaders of the party.
