jstbeinhonest: Biyi bandele and kunle afolayan are probably the most respected directors in nigeria.2 Of the top 20 highest grossing movies were yoruba movies,12 of the top 20 had yoruba directors.
It's no surprise that their movies have the highest gross #s.
Igbo nollywood has quantity [they spit out garbage movies year round] but no quality.
nwanlecha: Go tell that to the millions of people all over the world that now know so many Igbo words all thanks to our Nollywood. Heck, Goodluck Jonathan was hailed as Ìgwè when he visited a certain African country. Where do you think they learnt that from? Your guess is as good as mine.
Where are the million of people? In Igboland?
A selective few know nollywood for quality, not quantity.
When we talk about movie industry.....we're talking hollywood and bollywood.
Obiagu1: This milestone will be held at the Cine Olido in São Paulo, Brazil,, which will host a roundtable discussion featuring some of Nollywood’s most respected practitioners
That was the first festival son...be it round table or square table, we're spreading
tonychristopher: Yes In ashawo and agbero I duff my hat for their invention I shamefully admit Dont take it personal
Ashewo - igbo girls have taken over
Agberosim - Plenty for igboland too
Drug pushing - Igbos have taken over
Ritualists - plenty for igboland esp abia
Baby factories - Na igbo get am
Kidnapping - na igbo get am, yet they're spreading it to other parts of Nigeria
Is this how the english language is helping y'all?
Don't worry, BBCAfrica created BBCPidgin for igbo people
ezeagu: I'm talking about how the entire first page is about Igbo people. Wow, flattering. But you need to focus on things important to you, or are Igbo matter that important to you?
ezeagu: I'm okay with this sentiment, but there is nothing supporting indigenous languages currently that would warrant the removal of English right now. I mean, there are no indigenous language schools or universities. English is still the medium of education, and without you may be lost.
You're okay with the sentiment yet you're crying about it?
The Revival of Yoruba is welcome. Yorubas all over West Africa thanks BBCAfrica for investing in the Yoruba language
English is the medium of education? Tell that to France/Russia/China
nwanlecha: Don't even venture into Nollywood, 'cus ndị Igbo have the best of both worlds when it comes to that. We control the English side of Nollywood, which by the way is spiced up with a heavy dose of Igbo, and we've recently resurrected our Igbo movies, and they are doing so well now. Go to YouTube to feed your eyes.
Aww is that why no one watches nollywood anymore?
Quantity, not quality.
Whereas Yoruba movies have festivals in South America......hopefully with BBCYoruba we can spreader further
tonychristopher: They have turned miscreants and urchins in their father's land It's better to be a vagabond in faraway land than in your own land What a shame
Which ones have turned miscreant? The shameless vagabonds protesting when they should be tending to their jobs and/or be in school? Or the increasing culture of drug pushing in igboland?
Obiagu1: You won't believe it but Youth corpers from other parts of the country struggle to teach in most secondary schools in Yorubaland because of the inability of the students to understand english language.
Now add millions of touts that didn't go to school, then you'll get the sense of how grave the situation is in Yorubaland.
As long as they understand Yoruba.
Even with your Aba-made stats and your shameless appraisal of another man's language, Yoruba will continue to spread. It is global!
Learn Yoruba with new iPhone app
ezeagu: I think you're exaggerating. No, actually, I know you're exaggerating because the stereotype is even that an avaerage Igbo can't speak English without adding Igbo.
nwanlecha: Listen, it's a shame that your measure of literacy is dependent on how well you speak another man's language. If Yoruba language has truly been added to BBC service, it's a good thing and I will advocate for Igbo language to be added too, 'cus that is one of the ways to establish your language as a major international language.
