Nairaland / General / Man In Wheelchair Robs Bank In New York, Makes Getaway by iloriolushola(m): 2:03pm On Jun 30, 2015
NEW YORK — It may not have been the fastest getaway, but police are searching for a man in a wheelchair who robbed a bank in New York City.

It happened at the Santander Bank in Queens shortly after 2 p.m. Monday.

Police say a man in his late 20s and wearing a grey hoodie wheeled into the bank and passed a note to the teller demanding cash. After receiving over $1,200 in bills, police say the suspect then fled westbound on Broadway in the wheelchair.

He remains at large.

The world is really scary right now... this is not your usual couple,Dirk and Jenny aren’t like normal couples. Their sentiments are: to love one another, to support one another and to share a lot of their private time together. The only thing that sets themapart is Jenny is a ‘real doll’ that Dirk bought for 6,000 euros (that’s $6,750).Dirk and Jenny have a fixed daily schedule. Every evening at 6 pm they are sitting on the sofa watching televisionThey have been living together in Dirk’s flat for 4 years now, after Dirk suffered a breakdown from feeling lonely. With Neil Young’s Such a Woman playing, they tied the knot in Dirk’s flat, and instead of a wedding ring, he gifted her a heart shaped pendant on a chain. What sets their relationship apart from that of simply a sex doll is that Dirk has forged a true genuine relationship with Jenny. He can hear her, talk to herand “perceive her soul”, believing she speaks back.Documenting the couple’s day to day lives, the photographer, Sandra Hoyn, discovered the 40-year-old man bathed Jenny on Sundays, they wrote a blog together and watched football in front of the TV side by side. Dirk, however, hasn’t told any of his family or friends, including his child from a previous marriage. When he has guests he conceals her in his bedroomand dims the lights. The photographer’s biggest challenge, was coming to terms with treating Jenny as the person Dirk sees her to be; to not to just see the doll just as a doll, but to “recognize what the man sees and loves in her”. She actually started to feel her presence, and when Jenny was put in bed for a ‘sleep’, actually felt her voice volume lowering, afraid of waking her.“I can’t live without love. My lonelinessdestroyed me.”. Dirk says of his silicone doll. Dirk carrying Jenny into the bathroom. He always has to remove the door so that Jenny fits through. “Jenny is such a sensitive being. She is so helpless.”. He said.“Jenny gives me security. I never want to live without her again. I am moved from her words. The purity, serenity and honesty of her speaking.”.“Jenny likes to wear beautiful clothes. But she does not care for brands.” Every Sunday Dirk washes her lace lingerie and wigs.Dirk powders and massages Jenny’s feet. He cares for her silicone skin every Sunday after bathing to keep it soft.

Politics / The Truth About My Battles With Amaechi — Wike by iloriolushola(m): 7:13am On Jun 26, 2015
The empty treasuries at the federal and in many states of the federation is no longer news. The challenge before President Muhammadu Buhari is how to deliver the promises made to the electorate. In this interview, Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State explains how he has decided to tackle the challenge of providing infrastructure for the people of his state, as according to him, the people did not vote for him to be giving excuses. He also spoke on a wide range of issues including the rancour between his administration and the immediate past government of ex-governor Rotimi Amaechi and why he has decided to complete projects started by the last administration. Excerpts:
By Emma Ujah Abuja Bureau Chief
Your predecessor has accused you of a witch-hunt as exemplified in the forceful evacuation of a vehicle belonging to his former commissioner. Why?
You can recollect that after our inauguration we went into Government House and we told the whole world, first of all, that there was no handover note. If there was a handover note that would have guided you to say look this is where we started and this is where we ended; these were the things that were given to people as a kind of parting gift or whatever. We later learnt that the Government House had been looted. There was just nothing. The last government said that I sent people to take those things away so that I would award contracts for the replacement. I said I didn’t need to carry anything away before I award contracts. So the issue of removing those ones so that I will go and award contracts is not correct.
Why we are retrieving vehicles
Now we got information that most of the Government House vehicles are scattered here and there. First of all we got information that most of these vehicles were kept somewhere at Trans Amadi and we sent security men and we discovered vehicles were parked there.
Security men helped us to recover those vehicles; it was all over the news. We also got information that a Lexus bulletproof 570 was parked at the house of a former commissioner. We reported to police that one of the Governments House vehicles was at the house of the former commissioner and it was not the vehicle she was using in her office.
As a commissioner she can’t use a bulletproof vehicle, a Lexus for that matter which is not less that N60 – 70 million. So we sent in the security men to go and retrieve the vehicle.
Initially she said on phone that it was given to her as a parting gift and I said no problem but there should be record to show that this was given to you as a parting gift but we didn’t get such records because they didn’t handover anything to anybody.
She later said it was her husband that bought the vehicle. We said if it is your husband that bought it we have no problem, you can come with the particulars of the vehicle that your husband bought to prove that the vehicle was your husband’s vehicle.
When I came in here last week I went to Bank of Industry Building and the former Liaison Officer here, not knowing I was around had one of the vehicles we were looking for so we sent the ADC and he retrieved the vehicle and they brought the man and I said ‘Sir why do you have to go away with government vehicles? Is there any paper that says it was given to you’ and he said no and I told him to go and get all the papers and as I speak to you one or two weeks after the papers are yet to be brought here.
They said it was monetization
It is not correct, there is nothing like monetisation policy there. Let me explain what monetization means. As a minister, no vehicle was bought for me in the ministry.
Whatever thing had to be given was built into your salary, even housing. So where did they buy these cars? I worked there so how can anybody say that? The point is very clear. If you didn’t handover anything to me and I am getting information that this is where our vehicles and properties are am I not in the position to see how I can recover those vehicles?
On the former governor saying we were out to witch-hunt. Witch-hunt for what? Is this the first time that official Panel of Enquiry has been set in Rivers state? When he set the panel of enquiry was it also a witch-hunt?
Nobody was there to explain anything to us. If he had worked with the transition committee, his commissioners would have been asked one or two questions but no transition committee was set up by government.
Even police ceremonial vehicle the governor denied us. We had to go to Ondo State to borrow Ondo State ceremonial vehicle. Where in this country will you say that inauguration ceremony wasn’t funded by any state? Government is not a personal thing. As you leave today the other person will also leave tomorrow so there is nothing like witch hunting anybody.
The last administration claimed to have handed over to you. It said the Permanent Secretary of the Government House gave you a handover note.
That is not correct. Let’s go to the national level; when the president was handing over did he just handover just the villa? Didn’t he handover the entire structure, the system from one ministry to the other, stating where they started from and to where they are now?
Then you can ask one or two questions. The Permanent Secretary never one day handed anything to me, that is even the Government House. I am not talking about the Government House, I am talking about the government of Rivers state. So when you say handover I am not the governor of Government House, I am the governor of Rivers State so you can’t handover to me and say Government House; no! That is not correct.
What is the state of finance of Rivers state?
From what the Accountant-General gave me, first of all, we have what we call the government account and the government account was zero. The other ones are ministries’ accounts and I can tell you in ministry of works two days to our inauguration they were collecting 10 million, 200 million to go and build curves, roads. So I called the perm sec and I said perm sec you mean you people gave someone contract and you paid him cash of 200 million and he said ‘oga I refused but there was nothing I could do. It is so funny.
The last administration claimed it left N7 billion in the coffers. Did you see the N7 billion?
They say they kept N7 billion, how could you have kept N7 billion and you are owing salary for how many months, what is the N7 billion doing there?
For two months they haven’t paid salary; April and May they haven’t paid. Shark, Dolphins and Rivers Angels were owed 8 months. I had to give them their money last week it was just this morning the permanent secretary said he is paying all the civil servants today (Monday). So how can you say you kept N7 billion? Four months refuse contractors where not paid and the whole Port Harcourt was filled with refuse and you said you kept N7 billion. The N7 billion is to do what with it now? And you owe refuse contractor for four months, sharks, dolphin and Rivers angel 8 months, pensioners haven’t been paid up till now since February. If you find any money anywhere it was because we started raising alarm by 26th, 27th of May.
Some banks in order for us not be angry with them had to stop some cheques in fact there was one money of N700 million naira, two Skye Bank cheques that didn’t go through because we raised an alarm.
Even by 28th of May money was being taken out of some government accounts; how do you justify that? Frankly speaking looking at ministry of works alone of the contracts that were awarded the debt is not less than N150 billion.
Just Ministry of Works only I am not talking of Ministry of Health and the others but the one he said he owes Zenith bank is about N15 billion so we are negotiating with Zenith Bank. Zenith bank was deducting 1.5 billion every month but we said no, that will be too much for us, we are just coming. What is the allocation that they will be taking N1.5 billion every month? So we are talking with the bank on how to review it.
It has been alleged that there was a deal for you to be remitting money to Mrs. Patience Jonathan monthly. Is it true?
In this country we don’t have respect for leadership. It is very ridiculous for anybody to say that I and the former first lady had a pact to be remitting money. It is rather very unfortunate. What can I give to the (former) First Lady? She is from Rivers State, she wanted her husband’s party to win (gubernatorial election in) Rivers State and looked at all the people who were running for the election and said who can actually make her husband’s party to win Rivers State and said Mr. Z can do it and decided to support Mr. Z, then it becomes a bad thing? I can’t understand this country.
You were here when they said I was giving her $2 million. It is so ridiculous. That is why we don’t respect leadership.

Crime / Pastor, 8 Others, Fatally Shot At Church In Charleston, SC by iloriolushola(m): 11:24am On Jun 18, 2015
CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — A white man opened fire during a prayer meeting inside a historic black church in downtown Charleston on Wednesday night, killing nine people, including the pastor, in an assault that authorities described as a hate crime. The shooter remained at large Thursday morning.
Police Chief Greg Mullen said he believed the attack at the Emanuel AME Church was a hate crime, and police were looking for a white male in his early 20s. Mullen said the scene was chaotic when police arrived, and the officers thought they had the suspect tracked with a police dog, but he got away.

"We will put all effort, we will put all resources and we will put all of our energy into finding this individual who committed this crime tonight," he said.

Charleston Mayor Joseph P. Riley called the shooting "the most unspeakable and heartbreaking tragedy."

"The only reason that someone could walk into a church and shoot people praying is out of hate," Riley said. "It is the most dastardly act that one could possibly imagine, and we will bring that person to justice. ... This is one hateful person."

State House Minority leader Todd Rutherford told The Associated Press that the church's pastor, state Sen. Clementa Pinckney, was among those killed.

Pinckney 41, was a married father of two who was elected to the state house at age 23, making him the youngest member of the House at the time.

"He never had anything bad to say about anybody, even when I thought he should," Rutherford, D-Columbia, said. "He was always out doing work either for his parishioners or his constituents. He touched everybody."

The attack came two months after the fatal shooting of an unarmed black man, Walter Scott, by a white police officer in neighboring North Charleston that sparked major protests and highlighted racial tensions in the area. The officer has been charged with murder, and the shooting prompted South Carolina lawmakers to push through a bill helping all police agencies in the state get body cameras. Pinckney was a sponsor of that bill.

CHARLESTON SHOOTING
Police stand outside the Emanuel AME Church following a shooting in Charleston, S.C., June 17, 2015.

In a statement, Gov. Nikki Haley asked South Carolinians to pray for the victims and their families and decried violence at religious institutions.

"We'll never understand what motivates anyone to enter one of our places of worship and take the life of another," Haley said.

Soon after Wednesday night's shooting, a group of pastors huddled together praying in a circle across the street.

Community organizer Christopher Cason said he felt certain the shootings were racially motivated.

"I am very tired of people telling me that I don't have the right to be angry," Cason said. "I am very angry right now."

Even before Scott's shooting in April, Cason said he had been part of a group meeting with police and local leaders to try to shore up relations.

The Emmanuel AME church is a historic African-American church that traces its roots to 1816, when several churches split from Charleston's Methodist Episcopal church.

One of its founders, Denmark Vesey, tried to organize a slave revolt in 1822. He was caught, and white landowners had his church burned in revenge. Parishioners worshipped underground until after the Civil War.

Politics / Real Estate Mogul Trump Says He Is Running For President In 2016 by iloriolushola(m): 8:16pm On Jun 16, 2015
NEW YORK, June 16 (Reuters) - Real estate mogul and TV personality Donald Trump announced his candidacy for the 2016 U.S. presidential election on Tuesday in a blitz of boasts, inflammatory comments and attacks on both fellow Republicans and President Barack Obama's administration.
"I will be the greatest jobs president that God ever created," Trump said at the Trump Tower skyscraper in Manhattan on launching his bid for the Republican nomination.

The billionaire, widely seen as having almost no chance of winning the nomination, brings an outsized personality and a penchant for controversy to an unusually large group of Republicans vying for the presidency.

© Brendan McDermid/Reuters Donald Trump announces his 2016 presidential candidacy June 16, 2015, in New York City.
In highly provocative comments, Trump accused Mexico of sending rapists and other criminals to live in the United States.

"They're sending people that have lots of problems and they're bringing their problems," he said. "They're bringing drugs, they're bringing crime, they're rapists, and some I assume are good people but I speak to border guards and they tell us what we are getting."

Eleven other Republicans have announced they are running for next November's election, the latest being former Florida Governor Jeb Bush who launched his candidacy on Monday.

Trump, who boasted of having $8.7 billion in net worth, accused Bush of being weak on education.

"How the hell can you vote for this guy?"

Trump, who owns several hotels and hosts the reality show "The Celebrity Apprentice" on NBC, toyed with running in past elections but decided against doing so.

He languishes in 12th place, ahead of former New York Governor George Pataki, in a Reuters/Ipsos online poll of 13 Republicans who have either declared their candidacies or are likely to. Bush led the poll.

In other surveys, Trump has high negative ratings, with more than 50 percent of Americans saying they will never consider voting for him.

Politics / BREAKING: Court Sentences Ousted Egyptian President, Morsi To Death by iloriolushola(m): 3:15pm On Jun 04, 2015
An Egyptian court has pronounced death sentences on ousted president Mohammed Morsi and more than 100 other people over a mass prison break in 2011.

Morsi is already serving a 20-year prison term for ordering the arrest and torture of protesters while in power. Egypt’s religious authorities will now have to give their opinion before the sentence can be carried out.

Morsi’s supporters from his Muslim Brotherhood movement have described the charges against him as “farcical”. He was deposed by the military in July 2013 following mass street protests against his rule.

Since then, the authorities have banned the Muslim Brotherhood and arrested thousands of his supporters. Morsi raised both fists in defiance as the sentences were given.

Romance / Bride Arrives At Her Wedding In A Coffin. You Won’t Believe Her Reason by iloriolushola(m): 3:04pm On Jun 04, 2015
A 58-year-old bride, Jenny Buckleff recently shocked guests when she turned up at her own wedding in a coffin – meant for dead people.
She said she did it because she wanted to be a different. In her words; ‘I just wanted to do something a little bit different. Instead of turning up in a horse-drawn cart, I thought I’m going to turn up in a coffin.” Her groom wasn’t in support at first, but she was able to convince him to reason with her.
According to her she almost didn’t tell husband Chris but in the end she spilled the beans about three weeks before. He was a bit surprised but he said as long as she was happy he would go with the flow.

Although the pair gave lots of wedding guests a shock, they said they were pleased to have had such a talking point at the wedding.

Family / Family 'beat Pregnant 13-year-old And Try To Burn The Miscarriage Baby by iloriolushola(m): 10:36am On Jun 04, 2015
Four family members accused of beating a pregnant 13-year-old relative so she would have a miscarriage have been arrested.

Police said the traumatised girl, now aged 16, came forward with the allegations this week.

Another person was also arrested for sexually assaulting a minor.

When four family members found out she was 8 months pregnant in 2013, fearing child protection would be called, they “took matters into their own hands” to abort the baby, officers claim.

The girl told authorities in Dallas, Texas, that she was at first given multiple doses of birth control pills, morning after pills and cinnamon tablets.

But when these didn't work, deputy police chief Garza told CBS local the relatives went about “physically assaulting the victim to the point where the victim gave birth."

Google
Accused: The family were arrested by cops in Dallas, Texas

Police documents allege the teen's arms were pinned to the floor while one suspect sat on her stomach "repeatedly bouncing up and down."

Others kicked and punched her in the stomach and she was given a cushion to scream into as to not wake other family members, it is claimed.

One relative was claimed to be laughing while another allegedly told her: "B****, you ain’t about to get my kids taken away from me.”

The victim said the assault started at 5pm and didn't finish until around 11pm, when the group spotted blood dripping through the girl's pants.

She was allegedly placed into a bathtub, where she passed out, officers claimed.

It was only then, when one of the group took the stillborn baby to a "metal charcoal grill and attempted to burn it," but it was unsuccessful, so they gave it to another suspect to dispose of, police said.

Five suspects are in custody and police said they may still face additional charges in relation to the case.

Officers are still looking for the remains of the baby.

Politics / Benue Nullifies Suswam’s Civil Service Recruitments by iloriolushola(m): 10:12am On Jun 04, 2015
The Benue State government yesterday nullified all last minute recruitments into the state civil service by the Gabriel Suswam administration.

Governor Samuel Ortom had earlier warned the former governor to stop fresh intake of workers due to the financial situation in the state and cautioned beneficiaries against such appointments.
He gave the directive at a meeting with heads of government agencies and parastatals, saying the reversal became necessary in view of the backlog of unpaid salaries and allowances as well as retirement benefits.
The governor also ordered the chairman of the state Civil Service Commission, Mrs. Comfort Agogo, to provide details of the employment status of former staff redeployed from the Benue State Internal Revenue Service (BIRS) to various ministries.
Ortom lamented the huge debt burden of the state but called for patience, support and cooperation of the people to enable him address the challenges.

Nairaland / General / Court Threatens To Jail NDA Commandant by iloriolushola(m): 10:03am On Jun 04, 2015
A Kaduna State High Court has threatened to jail the Commandant of the Nigerian Defence Academy, Maj. Gen. Muhammed Idris, for disobeying the order of the court in respect to its ruling on two landed properties.

The court’s threat was contained in “Form 48” dated May 25, 2015 and signed by the Registrar of the Court.

The court’s ‘Notice of Consequences of Disobedience to Court Order’ warned the commandant of the consequences of disobeying court order.

It read, “To Major General Muhammed Inuwa Idris (Commandant of Nigerian Defence Academy, Kaduna). Take notice that unless you obey the directions contained in this Order, you will be guilty of contempt of court and will be liable to be committed to prison.”

It was learnt that the two properties in contention were both located in the Barnawa Government Reserved Area, Kaduna, and that they formerly belonged to NDA but had been sold to the occupants, late Mr. Joseph Kingo Lafidi and late D. Akpam respectively, who were then civilian staff of the military institution through the Federal Government’s Presidential Implementation Committee.

But widows of the deceased NDA employees, Mrs. Elizabeth J. Lafidi and Dorcas D. Akpam, were allegedly evicted from the property by the NDA authority in 2010 thus leading to a judicial battle.

The court ruled in favour of the widows in April 2014 but the NDA commandant was said to have refused to obey the court ruling, erecting a fence on the property and posted soldiers to guard same.

Sports / Enaholo Blames Wet Ball For Blunder by iloriolushola(m): 10:05am On Jun 02, 2015
Flying Eagles goalkeeper, Joshua Enaholo, has blamed the wet ball for the blunder he committed in his team’s 4-2 defeat to Brazil on Monday at the 2015 U-20 World Cup in New Zealand.

The Flying Eagles’ first choice conceded four goals against the rampaging Brazilians in their Group E opener in New Plymouth.

Enaholo failed to deal properly with a harmless ball from the Brazilians in the 82nd minute but he allowed the ball to squirm through his legs, thus handing Judivan an easy fourth goal for the five-time champions, which put the game beyond the Flying Eagles.

He told Fifa.com that the ball was wet and hence slipped through his fingers adding that he would work harder to avoid a repeat of such mistake in the team’s subsequent matches.

“My mind was off. The ball was wet and I just couldn’t get my grip properly. I must do better,” he said.

Meanwhile, Brazilian coach, Rogerio Micale, said the team’s wing play enabled them to beat Nigeria on Monday. He told Fifa.com that Nigeria lived up to expectations.

He stated, “We had expected to face a really good side in Nigeria and we weren’t mistaken on that front. We started very well, but then the opposition gradually got on top and prevented us from playing our game.

“We shored things up in the middle of the park again in the second half and then looked to exploit the wings, which paid dividends.”

The Flying Eagles play North Korea, who lost 5-1 to Hungary in their opening game, on Thursday in New Plymouth.

Politics / Lagos APGA Sacks Chairman For Supporting Ambode by iloriolushola(m): 9:58am On Jun 02, 2015
he Lagos State chapter of the All Progressive Grand Alliance has sacked its chairman, Adeshina Olayokun, for supporting Governor Akinwunmi Ambode’s election bid.

The party said it was shocked when less than 10 days to the governorship election, Olayokun openly declared support for Ambode of the All Progressives Congress even though APGA had decided to support the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Mr. Jimi Agbaje.

The party said in a statement on Monday that it had picked Mr. Kayode Alabi as Olayokun’s successor.

The new chairman noted in his acceptance speech that the party would face challenges ahead but that the party would overcome.

Alabi promised to restore the credibility of APGA in Lagos State and run an open and transparent administration.

He added that the change of guard came at the right time when the state chapter of the party was in need of people with integrity.

The statement added, “Alabi explained that Olayokun’s act of taking APGA supporters to the APC embarrassed and ridiculed stakeholders of APGA. This is one of the issues my office will deal with. The mission I and my team can promise is to restore the credibility of APGA in Lagos State and to run an open and transparent administration.”

Earlier, the Chairman of the Convention Planning Committee, Ifeanyichukwu Akata, charged the delegates to be “true party men and women and carry out their duties honourably by picking officers that have what it takes to pilot the affairs of the party and to move the party forward in the state.”

Akata emerged the party’s deputy state chairman. Other officers elected at the convention were Chief Sunny Adoke (secretary) and Chief Michael Ezekwobi (treasurer).

Yenagoa—Eminent sons and daughters of the Ijaw nation have agreed to re-examine the state of the Ijaw ethnic nationality in Nigeria, noting that they will immediately initiate the process of renegotiating the basis of their coexistence with other ethnic nationalities.

They disclosed this position at a Pan Ijaw Stakeholders Summit with the theme “The Ijaw Agenda Beyond May 29, 2015,” held between May 27-29, at Dr. Gabriel Okara Cultural Centre and Ijaw House, Yenogua, the Bayelsa State capital.

Co-hosted by the Ijaw National Congress, INC, and the Bayelsa State Government, the event which witnessed the presentation of papers by notable Ijaw scholars and other resource persons, was graced by more than 1, 500 people drawn from 78 Ijaw clans, traditional institutions, professional and socio-political bodies among others.

The summit in a 13-point communiqué, signed by its Chairman, Prof. Nelson Brambaifa and Secretary, Pastor Power Aginighan, however, thanked Nigerians for the rare opportunity given Dr. Goodluck Jonathan to preside over the affairs of the country.

Among other things the Summit noted that “the Ijaw nation today is at a critical moment in its history and called on all Ijaw leaders, sons and daughters to be united at this auspicious moment for the challenges ahead, adding that “it has expressed its desire for self determination, total rejection of the unjust legal order that robs resource owners of rights to their resources.”

2. Think they are descendants of apes, products of chance (embrace Darwin’s theory of evolution) when it’s God Himself who gave them life. (Genesis 2:7 )
3. Waste their life on wanton pleasure and indulgence. (Luke 15:11-16 ;
Hebrews 11:24-26 )
4. Think there is more than one life (believe in reincarnation) when there is not. (Hebrews 9:27 )
5. Don’t come to the One who is Life to discover what theirs is meant to be. (John 11:25-26 ; 14:6 )
6. Forget that life doesn’t end with death for the believer in Jesus Christ. (John 3:16 ; 11:25-26 )
7. Don’t realize this life isn’t really “life” at all (it is nothing more than the testing ground to find out who is worthy of eternal life). (Romans 2:5-11 ; Hebrews 9:27 )
8. Reject the Bible which is God’s manual on how to live (B-asic I-nstructions B-efore L-eaving E-arth). (Hebrews 4:12 )
9. Blame others for their lot in life instead of taking responsibility (Adam and Eve). (Genesis 3:11-13 )
10. Forget that, though they may have wasted their lives to this point, God can redeem a life and cause all things to work for good. (John 11:14 , 43-44 ;
Psalm 30:11 ; 2 Corinthians 5:17 ;
Romans 8:28 )
BONUS Overlook that some Christians will be called to lose their lives for the faith (physically) and be killed by those who think they are doing it for God (we must not love our lives even unto death). (John 16:2 ; Hebrews 11:37-38 ;
Revelation 6:9 , 12:11 )

Politics / Egypt-begins-demolishing-mubarak-party-hq/#i by iloriolushola(m): 6:42pm On May 31, 2015
www.ngrguardiannews.com/2015/05/egypt-begins-demolishing-mubarak-party-hq/
Egypt on Sunday began tearing down the headquarters of the once-dominant party of ex-president Hosni Mubarak that was torched during the 2011 uprising that toppled him.
Demolition workers, using cranes and bulldozers, began razing the four-storey headquarters of Mubarak’s National Democratic Party (NDP) that overlooks the Nile in central Cairo.
An adjacent 14-storey tower that once housed offices of state-run organisations was also being dismantled.
In early 2011, angry protesters demanding the ouster of Mubarak had ransacked and set fire to the NDP headquarters and the adjacent tower — seen as symbols of his autocratic rule.
Last month the government approved plans to demolish the buildings.
Both buildings are located close to the famed building of the Egyptian Museum of Antiquities near Cairo’s iconic Tahrir Square — epicentre of the anti-Mubarak revolt.

A police outpost at Ahor community in Uhunmwode Local Government Area of Edo State has been gutted by a wild fire.
It was gathered that the inferno, which occurred on Friday, was triggered by a cooking stove left unattended to by a woman identified as Dada Lemo, who lived closed to the police outpost.
The fire was said to have razed a nearby makeshift store before spreading to the police building.
It was learnt that the fire spread rapidly, consumed valuable police documents and reduced the outpost to rubble.
Dada, who was said to have been detained by the police, explained that she was shocked that the fire spread to the police outpost in spite of efforts to put out the fire.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Stephen Onwochei, who confirmed the incident, however, assured that the agency would not be deterred by the incident but would continue to provide security for lives and property in the community.
“We got an alert that our outpost at Ahor has been burnt.
“The security we are providing is still on. Criminals should not think the fire will deter us.”
Meanwhile, some traders and residents in the community have pledged to build a six-room outpost in the area to restore adequate police presence.

Politics / Polls: Again, IGP, Political Parties Differ Over ‘vote And Go’ Advice by iloriolushola(m): 2:07pm On Mar 25, 2015
As preparations for Saturday’s presidential and National Assembly elections enter final phase, the inspector- general of police, Suleman Abba, and political parties yesterday differed over whether voters should leave voting centres immediately after casting their ballots.
While the IGP called on political parties to educate and instruct their supporters to obey the advice – arguing that the vote-
and-wait plan is susceptible to exploitation for violence, the political parties countered that during the 2011 elections, voters waited after casting their votes and there was no chaos.
The secretary of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Sani Shinkafi, who recalled that voters stayed behind in 2011, wondered why it should be any different this time.
But defending his position, the IGP said if voters stay back they stood the chances of committing electoral offences, especially that part of the Electoral Act that concerns loitering. “If you stay,” he said, “there is the likelihood that you may commit any of the electoral laws. The law says that you should stay 300 metres away from the polling stations. My advice is that when
you cast your vote, don’t stay behind. I will do everything necessary to ensure the credibility and protection of the elections.” This comes as the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof Attahiru Jega,
declared that the commission was ready to hold the best elections in the country, vowing that the commission will not be partisan.
Jega further released the procedures for the elections and for releasing the results of polls by the presiding officers. These were the high points of events at INEC national stakeholders’ summit on the 2015 general elections held yesterday
in Abuja.
Countering, leaders of the political parties at the summit disagreed with him on grounds that no law forbids voters
staying at the polling stations to monitor the outcome of their votes till the results are announced.
Political parties who took turns to disagree with Abba include Alliance for Democracy (AD), African Democratic Congress (ADC), All Progressives Congress (APC), All Progressives Grand
Alliance (APGA), Independent Democrats (ID), National Conscience Party (NCP), Peoples Democratic Movement (PDM)
among other political parties. They also queried the use of the military to monitor the election and why the federal government would not obey the court order to that effect.
The police chief however returned to the podium, declaring that “the military would not be deployed at the polling stations.
Police and other enforcement agencies are constitutional empowered to maintain peace at the polling stating. Military
would be invited when the police cannot maintain peace at the polling stations. They would support the civil authority
when the need arises. “I advise that you cast your votes and go. It is advisory and I so advise. On loitering, by casting your votes that is lawful purpose has expired.”
He explained that there would be three policemen at the 150,000 polling stations across the over 120,000 polling stations. He added that adequate security will also be provided at 9000 collation centres. Abba however advised that security threat would be avoided if INEC ensures rigging and manipulation of results do not occur, and that electoral materials arrive on time.
He also cautioned politicians against hate campaigns, malicious directives to their supporters and exploitation of thugs for elections.
Jega, while speaking earlier, said the extension of the elections provided INEC the opportunity to “further perfect the electoral process for the delivery of free, fair, credible and peaceful elections, to the satisfaction of the yearnings and aspirations of Nigerians.”
While he assured that the commission will not be partisan, Jega revealed that accreditation of voters would take place from 8am in the morning till the last person to join the queue at 1 pm is accredited, while voting would commence at 1:30 pm and end when the last person on the queue has voted.
He also said that only persons with the Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) would be accredited, stating that the Smart Card Readers (SCRs) would be used during the accreditation process. He said that each political party is entitled to an agent at the polling station and the agent must be properly accredited in accordance with the regulations and guidelines. Jega said: “On March 28, three ballot boxes will be used in each of the polling/ voting points. Ballot boxes with red cover is for ballot paper by a voter for the presidential election. Ballot box with a
black cover is for the senatorial election and the green ballot box is for the House of Representatives election.
“Each ballot paper has corresponding colour stripes to assist voters in putting the right ballot paper in the right ballot box. For each polling/voting point, there is a designated official called overseer, whose primary job is to ensure that voters put the right ballot paper into the right ballot box. Political parties need to factor this into their campaigns to minimize putting the ballot paper into thewrong ballot box.”
As such he said that there shall be two sorting of voting in the polling units and voting point, and explained that it is to ensure that any wrongly placed ballot paper is removed and put back into the right ballot box and the second is to determine votes cast by voters to a political party/candidate.
According to the INEC chairman, “At the end of the sorting and counting of the ballot papers, the results are to be announced to the hearing of all and a result poster is to be completed and
pasted at the polling units. Copies of the result sheets are to be given accredited party agents who are present while the
original is to be conveyed to the ward level coalition centre by the presiding officer accompanied by the security
agents and the party agents.
“At the ward level coalition centre, if there are complaints and/or evidence of alteration of accreditation figures on the
result sheets, the information on accreditation saved on the Card Readers used would be used by the collation officer to decide on the case,” he explained.
Jega also disclosed “that hard copies of result sheets from the polling units would be scanned, converted to PDF format and
put in a database, which will be made accessible for viewing and download via the INEC website.” He said this would help to ensure the accuracy of the collated results.
Meanwhile, the IGP announced the restriction of movements from 8 am to 5pm on Election Day. He appealed to people to respect the restriction of movement and also to accept the outcome of the election, advising those with complaints to
approach the tribunals rather than take extra judicial steps “as they would be not be allowed.”

4. Don’t want to hear the truth (“Don’t confuse me with the facts”). (Acts 7:57)
5. Have lived a lie their entire lives (won’t face the truth of who they’ve become). (Romans 3:23; John 8:24)
6. Think there can be more than one “truth” (2 + 2 will never equal 5).
7. Hate those who live by the truth / the Holy Bible. (Mark 13:13)
8. Overlook that God alone is the only One to be believed. (Numbers 23:19)
