3. Short Term Plan:Immediately after the break up, D’Banj and his then team were majorly concerned about the immediate effect of the break up and tried hard to dissuade the obvious reality thatDon Jazzywas behind most of his hits. While Don Jazzy took his time to work on the Mavin Brand, struck deals with the artistes and went on silently to record songs that later became hits,D’Banjhurriedly released some songs too and basked in the euphoria of the momentary hype of his international deals.Seven months after, there was nothing else to talk about as all the gists had been exhausted.

2. Phony Hype:Most entertainment practitioners’ lifestyles do not actually reflect their true personalities.Immediately after the Mo’Hits break up, Mr. Dapo Oyebanjo dwelled so much on the hypes of his international breakthrough record deals like; Good Music, Def Jam, Mercury, the license to bring DefJam to Africa (the African arm of Island Def Jam which is under the parent company Universal Music Group and home to some of the biggest superstars on the planet) and later Sony Music, RCA.In an industry where water is made to looklike wine and stone is polished to resemble bread, he was so concerned about the money, the fame and the respect. The Universal deal was a good development but he was oblivious of the imminent danger ahead. And now, the power notes don’t become loud.It is not because he can’t sing them without screaming, but because of emotional artistic expression.

Music/Radio / The Seven Mistakes Of D’banj by iloriolushola(m): 8:14am On Aug 23, 2015
In the last few years, D’Banj was arguably the most celebrated Nigerian artiste alive. Over seven years, he kept churning out hits and bestrode the music scene like a colossus. But few months after his break up with his producer and partner of the defunct Mo’Hits Records-Don Jazzy, things began tonosedive and his relevance began to wane.Since the breakup in 2012, he has worked with four different managers and management companies rangingfrom Seun Abisagboola popularly known as Bankulli, Tonye Merrit, Tony Nwakalor and Sunday Are of List Entertainment, his manager in the Mo’Hits era. What we can’t however comprehend is whether these managers could no longer wave the magic wand effectively enough to yield the very badly needed effect to catapult D’Banj’s career to a most enviable height. However, it might not be far from the truth to say that D’Banj is the architect of his own misfortune. This week, Seun Apara attempts to examine the dwindling fortunes and career of the pop star and his many struggles to regain reckoning in the spotlight.AD:Learn To Make N200,000 - N350,000 Monthly Like Jumia & Konga. - Click Here To Start1. Capacity:It is an obvious secret that D’Banj lacks the capacity to single handedly write a good song but he is no doubt a great entertainer. His performances are always full of great energy and exudelots of confidence. He is unarguably a superb performer. Beyond that, what is the essence of sweating it out on stage when the fans are obviously not connecting with the music? It has been observed that D’Banj doesn’t have the ability to write to the maximum capacity of an ideal song. He only writes catch phrases that match his somewhat mediocre vocal strength so that he can confidently express it.And with a voice that is limited, the song also becomes limited. Aside the fact that his songs now sound monotonous, they are written and performed within the same style, similar dynamics and similar expression.A common feature in his music of recent is that he sings the entire song at a similar pitch and similar emotional intensity unlike the good old Mo’Hits days. While his relationship with Don Jazzy subsists,Jazzy reportedly composed over 90%of the songs they recorded. To however cover up for his lapses, one would have expected him to immediately enlist the services of a good songwriter or develop his own capacity. His last major hit still remains Oliver Twist, his last song produced by Don Jazzy.

Family / Body Of Woman Is Stolen Out Of Her Casket At A Funeral Home by iloriolushola(m): 7:35am On Aug 23, 2015
A grieving family is seeking closure after someone stole their daughter's body out of her casket at a Texas funeral home before she could be cremated following her funeral service in broad daylight., baffling police and forcing her family to deal with losing her a second time.Julie Mott, 25, died Aug. 8 after a life-long battle with cystic fibrosis, a genetic disease that causes persistent lung infections and limits the ability to breathe. Her body was stolen after her funeral in San Antonio on Aug. 15 which would have been her 26th birthday, Sgt. Javier Salazar said.Mott's body was discovered missing the next morning, when staff went to take her for cremation and found the casket had been broken into, Salazar said. But there were no signs of forced entry on the Mission Parks Funeral Chapel North home, and no alarms had gone off or been tampered with overnight. That means her body was likely stolen from a private viewing area between the end of the service at 1:30 p.m. and the end of the business day at 4:30 p.m. after the funeral."Whoever did it was pretty daring about it," Salazar said, noting the crime could have been committed by just one person or a group because Mott was petite. As to motive, "the possibilities are endless" and police will wait until they have apprehended a suspect to say why the crime occurred, he said.“Our No. 1 priority, of course, is getting her back to her family,” Salazar said. “A close second is to find out who the person was who did it and bring them to justice.”Dad Tim Mott begged for help finding his daughter's body."We just want our daughter's remains returned so we can have some closure to our grief," he said. The situation is especially heartwrenching because Mott was expected to live to just 3 years old, Salazar said. But her family"encouraged her to live" and have fun.She became a "vibrant, typical young girl" who loved to horseback ride but spent many days bedridden, Salazar said."It's heartbreaking to see a family that went through all that with her…now being put through this before being able to go through mourning and get the closure any family needs," he said.Friends mourned the second loss of the San Antonio College graduate who broughtjoy into their lives, despite her pain."So disturbing and unbelievable that someone would do this. RIP Julie and prayers to your family in this horrible time,"friend Jessica Payne wrote. The body theft is the first one in the funeralhome's 108-year history as the crime is not commonThe funeral home is offering a $20,000 reward for information leading to the body's discovery.NY Daily News.

Pets / Why Do Dogs Lick? by iloriolushola(m): 10:22am On Jul 11, 2015
by Josh Weiss-Roessler
See if this sounds familiar: After going for a long walk with your dog and feeding her, you sit down to relax. She comes over, so you start petting her, but as soon as you do, the licking begins. You’re not a fan, but it isn’t a big deal at first… and then it progresses until she’s slobbering all over your face.
This happens every single time you offer affection! Why?
Dogs lick their pack members and themselves for many reasons, and if you want to curb the behavior, it helps to understand its cause.

1. We taste good
If your dog is licking their bowl, the floor after a spill, or the counter after you’ve been cooking, you might pretty easily come to the conclusion that they simply like the taste. But did you know that the same thing can be true when they’re licking us? Sometimes we have tiny food particles that they can taste, and beyond that, dogs enjoy the salt on our skin.

2. Grooming
You might not think of your pup as particularly concerned with hygiene, but dogs often lick to clean themselves, just like cats. Pay close attention, though, because excessive anal cleaning can indicate that the glands need to be expressed.

3. Healing
Dog saliva has enzymes that kill off bacteria, and when a dog licks himself, it helps to get rid of dead tissue and clean dirt from wounds. Some dogs, however, just can’t stop themselves and may actually reopen wounds or cause other kinds of harm through excessive licking.

4. Compulsion
Speaking of excessive licking, if you notice that your dog is licking the same object or area over and over or that they seem to be doing so whenever they are scared or nervous, it might be time to seek medical help. While licking can be a healthy stress reliever, obsessive licking merely reinforces anxiety and makes the problem worse.

5. Communication
Dogs lick other dogs to tell them all sorts of things: everything from “I’m hungry” to “I submit to you” to “Let’s be friends.” They do this with people as well, but we’re typically not as good at interpreting the message. If your dog is licking you with intensity, take a look around and see if something is amiss. Maybe the water bowl is empty or the doggie door is closed. Chances are your dog needs something.

6. Affection
This is the most common reason that domestic dogs lick and tends to be the kind of licking most pet parents want to change. Licking for affection causes your dog to release pleasurable endorphins that calm and comfort them, but sometimes it can just get to be too much for people. If you want your dog to stop, ignore them and walk into another room whenever it begins. Eventually they will learn that licking causes you to leave, which isn’t what they want.

Pets / The Rundown On Dog Aggression by iloriolushola(m): 10:10am On Jul 11, 2015
By Cesar Millan
When people ask me for help with their dogs, I ask them to tell me what they think the problem is. Quite often, they immediately diagnose aggression. “My dog is aggressive on the walk.” “My dog is aggressive around food.” “My dog is aggressive all the time.”
In fact, in a recent Facebook survey of my fans, when we asked you to pick the single most serious problem you have with your dogs, aggression was the number one choice.
However, more often than not, the dog is not aggressive. It is curious and excited on the walk, it is not calm and submissive before being fed, or it’s just an excited dog in general. In reality, very few dogs are actually aggressive. But, because they have big sharp teeth, we tend to interpret any incident in which a dog approaches another dog or human quickly as aggression, especially if we don’t know the dog.
If a strange dog approaches us and our dog on the walk, we often become apprehensive ourselves. Our dog interprets this as weak energy and is forced to protect us, and their defensiveness can then lead to the other dog becoming aggressive in defense as well.
However, other behavior problems in dogs, if not resolved, can lead to aggressive behavior. Here are a few of the major ones.

1. Fear, anxiety, and insecurity
All animals have three natural responses to danger: fight, flight, or avoidance. They will either attack, run away, or try to hide from that danger. Fearful, anxious, or insecure dogs will not naturally fight. They will run or hide. However, if either of these things does not remove them from danger, then they can lash out aggressively.

A dog in a constant state of anxiety can eventually stop trying to run or hide first because its internal energy is very high and very scattered, so they can progress to reacting aggressively to everything.

These kinds of dogs require lots of exercise in order to burn up that excess energy and bring them back to a calm, submissive state. They also require calm, assertive Pack Leaders who will build up their self-confidence by providing protection and direction.

2. Frustration
When a dog’s needs are not fulfilled, the dog experiences frustration — particularly if what’s missing is exercise. An otherwise happy-go-lucky, high energy dog stuck alone in a small apartment for twelve hours a day can become so frustrated that aggression may result. The problem is made worse if the humans don’t also give that dog discipline by providing rules, boundaries and limitations.

If you can’t be home to walk your dog at least every four hours, then you need to take the dog on a long walk before you leave and after you return home. In the meantime, make sure that there are plenty of things to mentally stimulate your dog while you’re gone, like toys with treats hidden in them, acceptable things to chew on, and so forth.

3. Lack of socialization
A dog knows how to be a dog and how to relate to other dogs. It’s only when human behavior short circuits that process that a dog becomes antisocial. This is particularly common with smaller dogs, because humans have the irresistible need to pick them up at the first sign of danger.

You never see someone pick up their Rottweiler because another dog on the walk is barking at it. And yet, for breeds like Chihuahuas and Yorkies, this is the first thing that people do, and it completely confuses the dog.

They associate being picked up (affection) with another dog being aggressive toward it, so what do they do? They learn that this is what you want. When they meet another dog, it’s time to go crazy with barking and lunging so they can get their “reward.”

Even without picking the dog up, we can make it antisocial through our reactions. If we become tense or nervous and tighten up on the leash when we see another dog, then we’re teaching our dogs to see other dogs as a threat.

Dog on dog aggression is not natural. It’s a learned behavior and we teach it. In order for our dogs to unlearn it and become socialized, we have to become aware of what we’re doing to make our dogs antisocial and we have to learn what to do to let our dogs be dogs.

4. Injury or Illness
Sometimes, a dog that has never shown any signs of aggression will suddenly lash out and snap at a family member unexpectedly. If none of the above cases apply, then this may be your dog’s way of letting you know that it’s in pain and the snarl or nip is a spontaneous reaction similar to someone yelling “Ouch!” when they stub their toe on the coffee table.

If your dog suddenly lashes out at a familiar human when being touched, then your first step should be to visit the vet and find out if there are any physical causes for the reaction. If this is the case, your dog will be grateful to you for helping stop the pain.
A lot of people assume that a dog is either naturally aggressive or not, but this isn’t really the case. Aggression is not a cause, but a symptom. If your dog is aggressive, then it’s telling you that something else is lacking. By paying attention to the behavior, we can understand what our dog is telling us and then figure out the cure to the problem.

Travel / 10 Worst Plane Crashes Involving Nigeria by iloriolushola(m): 10:41am On Jul 10, 2015
Here is a list of the 10 worst plane crashes in Nigeria’s history.
1. July 1991:

261 people died after a McDonnell-Douglas DC-8 aircraft flying hajj pilgrims to Sokoto on behalf of Nigeria Airways, crashed in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, in the worst accident in the history of commercial aviation in Nigeria.

The Nigeria Airways flight took off from Jeddah runway but shortly after take-off, at 2000-3000 feet, problems with the cabin pressure were reported. These reports were quickly followed by a burst tire and loss of hydraulics. The aircraft lost control and crashed in flames while trying to return.

It was the worst accident involving a DC-8 and the second worst accident in Saudi Arabia at the time.

The root cause of the flight was blamed on human errors at the Nigerian aviation system.

“The aircraft was signed-off as fit for flight, in an unairworthy condition, by the operating flight engineer who had no involvement in the aircraft servicing,” investigations later revealed.

2. January 1973:

176 people died after a Boeing 707 chartered by Nigeria Airways to fly pilgrims back from Jeddah to Lagos crashed in Kano airport.

Bad weather at Lagos had forced the crew to divert to Kano. The aircraft touched nosewheel first, and then collapsed along the runway centreline. Two crew members and 23 occupants were rescued alive.

It was the worst accident involving a Boeing 707 at the time.

3. September 1992:

All 158 occupants died after Lockheed C-130H Hercules operated by Nigerian Airforce crashed near Lagos.

After takeoff one engine failed, followed by a second engine shortly afterwards. The crew tried to ditch the fully-laden plane in the Ejigbo canal, but then a third engine failed as well. The Hercules crashed nose-down into the swamp. The exact number of casualties is uncertain. But at least 150 Nigerians, 5 Ghanaians, 1 Tanzanian, 1 Zimbabwean, and 1 Ugandan were involved.

It was the worst accident involving a Lockheed C-130 at the time.

4. June 2012:

The recent Dana plane crash which killed 153 occupants. A McDonnell Douglas MD-83 passenger plane, 5N-RAM, operated by Dana Air was destroyed when it crashed into a residential area of Lagos, Nigeria. All 146 passengers and seven crew members were killed. At least, six victims have been found inside the buildings that were hit by the plane.

It is currently the third worst accident involving a MD-80.

5. November 1996:

144 people died after a Boeing 727 operated by ADC airline en route from Port Harcourt to Lagos crashed in Ejirin, near Lagos, killing all its occupants.

The aircraft crashed after it lost control during an evasive action maneuver. The pilot’s attempt to avoid a head-on collision with another flight failed. The aircraft crashed and disintegrated on impact.

“The untidy traffic separation by the radar controller” was the immediate cause of the crash, investigations later revealed.

It was the 8th worst accident involving a Boeing 727 at the time.

6. October 2005:

117 people died after a Boeing 737 operated by Bellview Airline crashed near Lagos. The Bellview flight 210 took off from Lagos at 20:35 for a domestic flight to Abuja. Tower lost radio contact with the flight about three minutes after takeoff. The next morning, the wreckage was found about 30 kms north of Lagos.

Bad weather was blamed for the crash.

It was the seventh worst accident involving a Boeing 737-200 at the time.

7. December 2005:

108 people, mostly students of Loyola Jesuit College in Abuja, were killed after a McDonnell-Douglas operated by Sossoliso Airlines crashed while landing at the Port Harcourt airport. Two occupants were rescued alive.

The primary cause of the accident was blamed on the weather but the immediate cause was “the crew’s decision to continue the approach beyond the Decision Altitude without having the runway and/or airport in sight,.” an investigative report said. Contributory causes were dysfunctional runway lighting and poor airport design.
It is the current fourth worst accident involving a DC-9-30.

8. October 2006:

97 people perished after a Boeing 737 operated by ADC Airlines crashed near the Abuja airport shortly after takeoff.

The ADC Airlines flight departed Lagos on a scheduled domestic flight to Sokoto with an intermediate stop at Abuja.

Immediately after takeoff from the Abuja airport, the Boeing 737 contacted the ground, broke up and caught fire in a corn field. A woman working on the field was reportedly killed after being struck by debris from the crash.

The primary cause of the crash was bad weather but the immediate cause was the pilot’s refusal to acknowledge prevailing weather conditions.
It is the 15th worst accident involving a Boeing 737-200.

9. November 1969:

This was the first major plane crash in Nigeria after independence. 87 people perished after a Vickers VC-10 operated by Nigeria Airways crashed in Lagos.

The Nigeria Airways VC-10 was on a flight from London to Lagos with en route stops at Rome and Kano. On the last leg of the flight, the VC-10 was making a straight in runway 19 approach to Lagos when it descended below the normal approach path and struck trees. The aircraft crashed and caught fire.

10. May 2002:

72 people died after a BAC One-Eleven jet operated EAS, on a flight from Jos to Lagos via Kano, crashed shortly after take off from the Kano airport.

“Shortly after departing Kano, the aircraft reportedly stalled. It came down in the heavily populated district of Gwammaja about half a mile from the airport on the outskirts of Kano. It sheared roofs from two-story concrete homes and sliced a mosque in half as it broke apart and burst into flames. Some 23 houses in Gwammaja area were destroyed, along with a school and the mosque” Aviation Safety Network reported.
Prior to the accident, the plane had been reportedly grounded for 52 days because of engine problems. it crashed ten hours after another engine, from another grounded plane was fitted into it.

After the crash, the aviation Ministry issued a ban on all aircraft in Nigeria, older than 22 years.

Sports / Floyd Mayweather Has Been Stripped Of The WBO Welterweight Title by iloriolushola(m): 7:21am On Jul 07, 2015
Floyd Mayweather has been stripped of the WBO welterweight title he won by beating Manny Pacquiao two months ago.
Mayweather failed to meet the deadline last Friday for paying the $200 000 sanctioning fee required by the WBO.
The American took the belt from Pacquiao in Las Vegas on May 2 in the richest fight in history, earning a reported $220 million.
WBO rules require boxers to pay three percent of their purse to fight for a world title up to a maximum of $200 000.
The rules also prohibit WBO champions to hold any belts in any other weight divisions. Mayweather is also the WBC and WBA champion at super-welterweight (69.85 kg) and welterweight (66.68 kg).
A statement on the Puerto Rico-based sanctioning body's website confirmed that Mayweather, regarded as the best boxer, pound for pound, in the world, was no longer the WBO champion.
The statement said Mayweather failed to pay the $200 000 fee required of him “as a participant of a WBO world championship contest.
"Despite affording Mr Mayweather the courtesy of an extension to advise us of his position within the WBO welterweight division and to vacate the two [69.85kg] world titles he holds, the WBO … received no response from him or his legal representatives on this matter.
"The WBO world championship committee is allowed no other alternative but to cease to recognize Mr Mayweather as the WBO welterweight champion of the world and to vacate his title."
After Mayweather, whose record stands at 48-0, with 26 knockouts, defeated Pacquiao to unify three of the four welterweight titles, he declared he would vacate all his titles to give younger fighters the chance to win belts.
"I don't know if it will be Monday or maybe a couple weeks," Mayweather said at the post-fight news conference. "I'll talk to my team and see what we need to do. Other fighters need a chance."
American Timothy Bradley, who defeated countryman Jessie Vargas for the WBO interim welterweight belt on June 27, is expected to be formally elevated to full champion status by the WBO.

Education / Crisis Rocks Kings College (PHOTOS) by iloriolushola(m): 1:25pm On Jul 03, 2015
Last Sunday, June 28 was parents’ visiting day at King’s College, Lagos but unfortunately parents were locked out of the school premises.
Despite the heavy rain falling, the two gates leading into the school premises were locked and parents were denied the right to see their children.
Armed policemen were seen guarding the gate school main campus and the annex.
According to a parent, the gates to the school were ordered locked and manned by armed policemen by the school principal. This was because some parents were asking for a better welfare for their children and wards and the school principal felt they were asking for too much.
Because their rights have been infringe upon, some of the aggrieved parents who have children in the school have taken their case to human rights lawyer, Festus Keyamo who is presently on the case.
Before now, King’s College concerned parents had donated gift items to the principal Otunba Olateju for the school clinic. They donated refrigerator, sterilizer and generating set to the school clinic. This they did because their children complained to them that the clinic do not have sterilizer, they do not have light in the night and that the school clinic lacks refrigerator to keep clinic items.

Pets / 10 Things You Should Know Before Getting A Dog by iloriolushola(m): 10:15am On Jul 03, 2015
Have you been dreaming of getting a dog ever since you saw the reruns of the television classic Lassie as a kid? Or maybe you were fortunate enough to watch the original series. While your dog might not be able to save you week after week from a burning building, a runaway freight train, or the bottom of a well (and in the time it takes to finish a 30-minute episode, too), owning a dog can be a wonderful experience.

Here are 10 things you should know and consider before choosing your canine friend.

1. Dogs take up a lot of time and energy. Yes, they are rewarding. But if you live alone and work twenty hours a day, then perhaps a dog is not the best choice for you. Hey, there are always those super-cool robot dogs.

2. If you are not often at home, and you really want a dog, you probably should invest in a dog walker. You'd probably be wise to choose a dog breed that isn't especially needy, too. Check out PetMD's Breedopedia to select from a wide variety of breeds.

3. Any dog you get should be suitable to not only your lifestyle, but your surroundings. If you live in a shoebox apartment, then a large dog is not a good choice. You don’t want your dog to develop health issues, be bored, or destroy things. Large dogs really belong in big places with lots of outdoor space.

4. Consider which breeds are suitable for your region's climate, especially if you have a yard and want to keep it as an outside dog.

5. Puppies require the most work when it comes to house training. If you: (a) don’t want your things chewed up, or (b) don’t have the time or money to train the puppy, consider adopting an already housebroken, adult dog.

6. Make sure you have lots of chew toys available for your puppy and keep all expensive things (like shoes and clothes) out of its reach; the same goes for chemicals and medicines. Puppies like to investigate and try everything, so make sure there is nothing dangerous around for them to sample.

7. Get your dog vaccinated and spayed or neutered as soon as possible. Oh, and take your dog to the vet for its routine checkups. Your dog will thank you for it and live a much better (and longer) life.

8. Get a proper leash and harness for your dog. A leash too small or too large may hurt it inadvertently during its walking routine, or, worse yet, allow it to hurt others or get loose and run away.

9. Health insurance is a must. Consult your veterinarian as to your best options.

10. Regardless of the dog breed you choose, have fun! They say there is no better friend than a dog. We have to agree.

single mother (names withheld) in Aya-
Oye Street, Ejigbo, to cover up the shame.
Before she became pregnant for Fatai who
resides at Abaranje in Ikotun area, Joy
already had three children from an
estranged husband who resides in
Surulere area.
A neighbour, Iya Kubirat, who spoke to
Vanguard, said
However, trouble started after the woman
who harboured Joy contacted her husband
and family members and they rejected
her corpse. She then contacted Fatai, who
later went to the place, and also refused
to take responsibility for her burial.
It was gathered that Fatai explained that
he did not marry her as his wife and so
would not accept the corpse for burial,
even though he was the father of the
twins.
The deceased’s corpse was later
deposited at Isolo General Hospital
mortuary after Joy’s elder sister arrived.
Meanwhile, the twin babies were handed
over to Fatai who took them to his house
at Ikotun.
“I can’t say what was responsible
for her death because the incident
occurred a few days after she was
delivered of the babies in a hospital
and was brought back to the
woman’s flat. She was found dead,
foaming in her mouth on top of a
bed in one of the rooms in the
flat.“When the woman who
harboured her in the flat heard the
babies crying, she went to Joy’s
room to find out what was
happening only to discover that Joy
was dead. She raised an alarm
which attracted neighbours. I was
among the people who rushed to
the flat. The cause of Joy’s death
could not be immediately

abductors had demanded for ransom or not’’, he said.
He emphasised that investigation was on to know her
whereabouts and called on members of the public to
give useful information to enable the police to rescue
her.
Umar-Numan urged the public to always give vital

Politics / Suswam’s Wife Raids Benue Liaison Office In Abuja by iloriolushola(m): 2:22pm On Jul 01, 2015
Yemisi Suswam, the wife of former
Governor of Benue State, Gabriel Suswam,
has been accused of raiding the state’s
liaison office in Asokoro area in Abuja, with
the intent to cart out and steal all the
expensive furnishings.
Eyewitness divulged to SaharaReporters that
the raid was deviously supervised by associates
close to Yemisi Suswam, who drove two large
trucks to the Liaison Office in Abuja in the dark,
with the intent to cart out and steal all the
expensive furnishings.
It was learnt that Yemisi Suswan and her sister
received a contract from the Benue State
government to furnish and design the Benue
State Liaison Office in Abuja, which sources said
was an unlawful government contract due to
conflicts of interest.
It was further learnt that the sisters knew exactly
what items to steal, since they were the ones in-
charge of the furnishing of the office.
The night-muggers stole everything they could
fit into their trucks, especially pricey gadgets,
electronics, and home-office accessories.
Items removed included television sets,
refrigerators, rugs, plates, pots, DSTV decoders,
and bed sheets.
As at the time of the incident, the erstwhile
governor and his wife were allegedly out of the
country.

Religion / Another Black Church In South Carolina Burns; Cause Unknown by iloriolushola(m): 10:18am On Jul 01, 2015
COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — An African-American church in South Carolina that was burned down by the Ku Klux Klan in 1995 caught fire again Tuesday night, though authorities said it was too soon to say what caused the latest blaze, which broke out on a night of frequent storms. No one was believed to be inside at the time.

The fire at the Mount Zion African Methodist Episcopal church in Greeleyville broke out at a time when federal authorities are investigating conflagrations at several other predominantly black churches — including one Friday at a church near Aiken, South Carolina — but so far the fires don't appear to be related.

Greeleyville is a town of about 400 people around 50 miles north of Charleston, where a pastor and nine members of a historic black church were fatally shot on June 17 in what authorities are investigating as a hate crime.

Agents from the State Law Enforcement Division were on their way to the church before the fire was out, Division Chief Mark Keel said. But he said they will have to wait until the hot spots are extinguished before using dogs and other investigative tools to figure out what started it. He said investigators will be on the scene first thing Wednesday morning.

"We do know they apparently had some strong storms," Keel said. "Talked to a guy who said they had a lot of lightning down there tonight. I don't know whether that had anything to do with it at all."

The image of orange flames coming from the same church the KKK burned down 20 years ago brought up painful memories, said Williamsburg County Councilman Eddie Woods Jr., who got out of bed to drive to the church after hearing about the fire.

"That was a tough thing to see," Woods said. "It is hurting those people again. But we're going to rebuild. If this was someone, they need to know that hate won't stop us again," Woods said.

All of the fires currently under investigation broke out days after the fatal shootings at Charleston's historic Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church. Dylann Storm Roof has been charged with nine counts of murder in the shootings, and the FBI is investigating possible links between the 21-year-old white man and a hate manifesto that showed up online along with photos of him.

Mount Zion AME Church burned down on June 20, 1995. Two Ku Klux Klan members pleaded guilty to starting that fire and a second at another predominantly black church. They were each sentenced to nearly two decades in prison.

Speaking at the church in 1996, President Bill Clinton implored people not to respond to what was a string of nearly three dozen church fires — many of them racially motivated — with the same hatred that drove the people who started the blazes. He gave the church a plaque to commemorate his visit, and noticed membership had grown four times over since the fire.

"The American people are the most religious, church-going people of any great democracy," Clinton said. "We cannot let someone come into our democratic home, the home of our faith, and start torching our houses of worship."
