Nairaland / General / Biafra: Fasting Commenses For Release Of IPOB Leader by iloriolushola(m): 8:07am On Feb 25, 2016
The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), commenced a fasting and prayer programme on Wednesday, February 24.Members of the pro-Biafra group in Anambra state, embarked on spiritual warfare in its agitation for the releaseof their embattled leader and Directorof Radio Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu.Vanguard reports that the prayer and fasting session was held in different parts of the state. The prayer and fasting started at exactly 7am and ended at about 3pm insome locations of the state where members trooped outen masse without the usual display of IPOB flags and banners.According to the group, the exercise was aimed at getting God’s intervention for the release Kanu, actualization of Biafra, and the allegedintimidation, harassment, and killings of the members of the group by military operatives. In a statement issued after their prayer at a location in Ukpor in Nnewi south council area, the IPOB spokesman, Mr Emma Powerful called on the Bishops and priests of the Catholic, Anglican churches and Pentecostals pastors to be prayerful for the restoration of Biafra and for the release of Kanu.“Nigeria is dwindling to irredeemable situation under the All Progressives Congress, APC, government of President Muhammadu Buhari. “Biafra is the only answer to the problem Nigeria is facing now. The APC government is confused and the peoplewho led Nigeria into this mess, the APChenchmen, their so called national leaders who wanted change at all cost, are now all dumb. They have no answer to the problems they have created. Theonly answer now is Biafra.

“We are not joking about this spiritual declaration. We have been praying and fasting. No bloodshed of Biafrans will go unpunished. The APC members who are deeply religious should go and ask questions about the consequences of the atrocities they have committed with the killing of innocent youths who were praying at Aba, innocent youths who were peacefully agitating in Onitsha whom the military killed. “Whenwe were taking those they shot dead tohospitals, their blood was revolting against the APC government and the party which will never know peace until they leave IPOB and other Biafra agitating groups alone,”Emma Powerful said.He also urged the churches to pray ceaselessly because the people being killed are their members and children of God who were exercising their constitutional rights of peaceful protest and non violent agitation, adding that they should equally pray for Kanu who is facing “unjust trial”.Mr Powerful described Kanu as God sent from the United Kingdom, where he has everything going for him but decided to come to Nigeria and suffer and liberate the marginalized and humiliated sections of Nigerians that are asking for freedom.“We want Chukwuokike Abiama (God Almighty) to reveal the truth in the next court and to the world, for Mr. Kanu our innocent leader, to disgrace and blind the enemies of Biafra and those who want to use Biafra and Mr. Kanu to gain cheep popularity in their misguided government that is heading for the rocks”the spokesman said. The IPOB has said President MuhammaduBuhari is surrounded with bad advisers, which is why he has refused to release their leader. Mr Powerful said Buhari’s advisers were deceiving him, adding that those who are supposed to advise the president have all gone mute in a bid to see his government fail.

The embattled spokesperson of the Peoples Democratic Party on Tuesday tore a statement he voluntarily made to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission regarding his alleged involvement in the $2.1billion arms fraud being investigated by the anti-graft agency. Those familiar with the matter told PREMIUM TIMES Mr. Metuh tore the statement after it was presented to him by the investigating officer for endorsement, as part of preparations for his prosecution.“Rather than sign the document, Metuhon realising the weight of his confession, seized the documents and proceeded to tear them,” one of our sources said.He added that the PDP spokesperson later tried to stuff the papers into his mouth in a bid to swallow them when hewas stopped by operatives who managed to recovered the torn pieces of papers from him.Another source in the EFCC said the attempt by Mr. Metuh to destroy a major evidence in the case against him was an offence which could attract a separate charge in court.“The tearing of statement is tantamount to willful destruction of government property and it is a seriousoffence,” the official said.“Also the fact that he obstructed operatives from performing their job isalso a criminal offence. We will explore the possibility of filling a separate charge against him at the Federal Capital Territory High Court.”

ABA—A middle-aged man, identified as Papa Ogada, has dumped his 14-year-old son in a well, accusing him of being behind his inability to make progress in life.Vanguardgathered that Ogada, a coffin maker, who hails from Oberete village in Obingwa Local Government Area of Abia State, had been complaining that his son was a wizard, who had caused him serial misfortunes since reuniting with him, afterleaving his mother’s place.A source said: “The truth is that the man has been separated from the boy’s mother.Since the boy came back from his mother’splace where he lived, the man has been accusing him of being a wizard.“He once told us that he had consulted many spiritualists, who told him that his son is a wizard and is behind the problems he has had in his business.“We are not surprised that he went this far.”It was learned that Ogada contacted one of his friends, who helped him tie up the boy with his school uniform, books and other property and drove off at about 9p.m. to neighbouring Abiaka village, where they dumped him in an abandoned well.RescueAccording to a resident of Abiaka village, who was part of rescue efforts, “some of us had already retired for the day when we started hearing shouts and cries comingfrom the location of the abandoned well, but we thought people were fighting.“As the shouts increased, we summoned courage and got to the area and discovered that it was coming from the abandoned well. We got a rope and bucket, threw them inside and the boy managed to cling to and was pulled out.“He was already weak with injuries. We thanked God the well had been out of use; he might not have survived.”At press time, the boy was said to be receiving medical attention at an undisclosed hospital, while his father’s whereabouts is unknown. When contacted, Police Public Relations Officer, Abia State Command, DSP Ezekiel Onyeke, said the incident was not reported to the Police.Onyeka said: “I have contacted the DPOs of Eastern Ngwa and Ohuru Isimiri Divisions covering the Obingwa area; they said they are not aware of the incident. Health / Scientists Create Artificial Foam Heartcomparable To The Original by iloriolushola(m): 11:19am On Oct 22, 2015
Patients with unhealthy hearts could soon have them replaced with foam-like equivalents thanks to recent work by scientists at Cornell University.Said to feel a lot like a memory foam mattress, the polymer material developed by the research team can be easily made into any shape and contains modifiable channels and chambers through which fluids can be pumped.Cornell University researcher Rob Shepherd explained the material’s versatility in a video, saying, “We can change [its internal] pores to how we want,so we can get more or less connectivity across the material for our fluid to pass through. It’s also very soft so we don’t have to apply a lot of pressure to get fluid to move through the pores.”AdvertisementImpressed with the scientists’ efforts, doctors and others in the medical field are hoping the special foam can one day be used as an assistant machine for a heart, or even as a heart replacement, Shepherd said. The material actually starts as a liquid before being shaped using molds created with a 3D printer. Shepherd describes it as a “cheap, low-cost process that we can doover and over again to iterate our designs, so we can go through many different shapes and styles.” Such a process could enable the creation of artificial organs builtprecisely to a patient’s specific requirements.Besides artificial organs, the lightweight material could also be useful for prostheticbody parts and soft robotics, the research team said.

Politics / PDP Forced Me To Sign Fake Results–abia North Returning Officer by iloriolushola(m): 2:41pm On Aug 23, 2015
Contrary to accusations that he absconded and abandoned his duty post during the last general elections, the Returning Officer, (RO) for Abia North Senatorial district, Dr. Ihekweaba Chukwugoziem says he merely refused to sign a fake result allegedly presented to him by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
Ihekweaba made the statement before the National Assembly Tribunal, where he testified as a witness in the petition filed by the candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, Chief David Ogba Onuoha-Bourdex against Senator Mao Ohuabunwa of the PDP.
He explained that rather than abdicating his duties, he stoutly refused to declare the result of the election based on the falsified data presented to him, adding, “we started to examine the results local government by local government, and after we examined Arochukwu and Ohafia results and discovered huge anomalies, the Respondents refused and resisted the continuation of the examination of the remaining three local government areas.
“Pressure was brought on me to sign and declare the results as presented with all the manipulations in them, and I refused, insisting that the right thing should be done by concluding the examination of the rest of the local government areas before the declaration.”
The RO stated that he quickly wrote a report, which he submitted to the REC (Resident Electoral Officer) informing her that the persuasion on him to announce a pre-arranged result, which was not in tandem with the law, did not go down well with him and his conscience.
When asked under cross-examination why he went to the Federal High Court to swear to an affidavit after submitting the report to the REC, he said he decided to go the extra mile to ensure the right thing was done based on the report he submitted to his employers, the Independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC) on the large scale defalcations, mutilations and inflation of votes on the result sheets skewed in favor of the PDP candidate Mao Ohuabunwa.
Ihekweaba, who is also an Associate Professor in Computer Engineering at the Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, Abia State, further alleged that when pressure was mounted on him by supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) and its candidate, Senator Mao Ohuabunwa, he refused to surrender, adding that at no point did INEC send another person to replace him as the RO.
Under further cross-examination by both the counsel of the defendant and INEC, the RO remarked that he was not in a place to know whether INEC had power to appoint another Returning Officer or not, stressing that he was appointment via a letter signed by the Head of Department of Electoral Operations, INEC, Mr. G. I. Okoli, which he tendered to the tribunal.
The RO added that it was in response to his report that the REC set up the committee to investigate the widespread irregularities regretting that while the committee of which he was a member set about the assignment, it could not finish its work because after cross-checking two out of the five local government areas that make up Abia North Senatorial District namely Arochukwu and Ohafia, “massive irregularities were noticed and at that point the Respondents refused and resisted the continuation of the examination of the remaining three local government areas”.
When the INEC counsel, Dr. Livy Uzukwu, (SAN) accused him of absconding, the RO declared:“I did not abscond, I refused to act against my conscience by announcing fictitious results in favor of the PDP candidate who did not win the election.
“Pressure was brought on me to sign and declare the results as presented with all the manipulations in them and I refused insisting that the right thing be done by concluding the examination of the rest of the local government areas before declaration. The result I was being pressured to sign did not emanate from me as the duly appointed Returning Officer for the Senatorial election.”
While denying suggestions by the defense counsel that he published his report on a national daily and that he was working for the petitioners, Dr. Ihekweaba stated that he knew nothing about the publication, adding that he was not working for anyone and that he had nothing to lose by doing that which was needful, by swearing to the affidavit to ensure that the right things were done.
He asserted that he was answerable to his conscience and INEC that appointed him, pointing out that if he needed money, the PDP and the respondents were ready to pay him more than anyone could have.
Earlier an expert witness, Mr. Adeola Layiwola, told the tribunal that analyses of the result sheets exposed a lot of mutilations pointing out that certain figures were randomly inserted without cognizance of their relationship in the context.
The statistician added that a proper computation of the genuine votes tally showed that the petitioner Chief Dr. David Ogba Onuoha-Bourdex scored the highest number of valid votes in the election.
Speaking to reporters shortly after the sitting, counsel to the petitioner, Chief Chris Uche, (SAN) said: “I feel happy with what happened in today’s sitting. This crucial witness that testified, the returning officer for the election had to say the truth; that he wrote a report and swore to an affidavit of facts saying that the result that was brought to him to declare was not the correct result. That is commendable.”
The Senior Advocate noted that for somebody in that position to risk it and insist on the proper thing being done “I am very happy and hope that many Nigerians will adopt this path of honour.”
“We have seen the result and like he said, there were so many discrepancies and irregularities and that the committee reviewed two local governments out of five and found a lot of irregularities, they were bringing pressure on him to still declare the wrong result and he refused. So he has given that evidence before the tribunal and with the evidence filed, the tribunal would come to a proper decision,” Chief Uche remarked.
DAILY POST PredictWin: Arsenal vs Liverpool
The legal luminary explained that it was because the RO refused to declare the wrong result, that made INEC to go and fish for somebody else to come and sign the form EC8 and declare the result, pointing out that what the defense counsel were trying unsuccessfully to do was to accuse the returning officer of absconding from his duty post in a bid to justify the stranger that was procured to announce the result.

7. The Harmonicacheesy’Banj sure knows how to play one instrument very well with lots of dexterity, the mouth organ otherwise known as the Harmonica. He has made use of it on few occasions but has not been consistent with it.The instrument might have given some form of solace to most of his hitherto disappointed fans.
Music/Radio / Re: The Seven Mistakes Of D’banj by iloriolushola(m): 8:24am On Aug 23, 2015
6. Direction:His fans at some point were lost as regards the direction of his music. Before then, especially in the Mo’Hits days, fans and critics alike knew exactly what to expect from D’Banj. As earlier observed, a voice that is limited will automatically produce a song that is limited. A common feature in his music of recent is that he sings the entire song at a similar pitch and similar emotional intensity unlike before.Right now, some critics in the industry feelthat he needs to develop greater strength and it’ll be remarkable how much more interesting his song and expression will become.Creativity prevails for the songwriter, whenhe or she possesses adequate vocal strength and dexterity to express with. If he can develop his range, his song writing skills becomes bolder and more interesting.
Music/Radio / Re: The Seven Mistakes Of D’banj by iloriolushola(m): 8:23am On Aug 23, 2015
5. STYLE:There is no doubt that D’Banj has lost the steam in his career.According to a reporter, Samuel Abulude, he wrote that “It is worthy of note that D’Banj’s current music is different and of less quality since his former music producer, Don Jazzy stopped producing his music.Djs and observers of the Kokomaster haveseen a detour in D’Banj’s style of music and this is perhaps why he is seen as missing his former boss and business partner.Comedians have joked that anything Don Jazzy touches turns to gold (a hit) and that D’Banj needs him again for this”.
Music/Radio / Re: The Seven Mistakes Of D’banj by iloriolushola(m): 8:22am On Aug 23, 2015
4. Right Team:As part of his short term plan, Mr. Oyebanjo failed to put together the right team in terms of making good music such as song writing and production. One would have expected his team to immediately bring on board a producer/production team or songwriter to immediately understudy Don Jazzy’s effect on D’Banj’s music and see how it could be improved upon. This might have helped in the type of music churned out by him. Being a musician involves composing, writing, singing, playing, arranging, recording, producing, mixing, mastering, promoting, performing and lots more.
