AIT created an online poll for all presidential candidate for the upcoming elections. It was observed that the poll is fraudulent and not credible because some voters discovered that you can vote multiple times for PDP alone but only once for other candidates. One of the voters raised an alarm while some other voters verified his claim and discovered it's true. Some said they were able to vote multiple times using different browser while one said he cleared cache and cookies and voted multiple times. My take on this is, Why will AIT ignore listing the party alphabetically and place PDP number one on the list? Please read comments on the link. Link: http://aitonline.tv/elections

Boko Haram Sacks Monguno Barracks, Fate Of 1400 Soldiers Unknown Top security officials just confirmed to SaharaReporters that Islamist fighters today overwhelmed the 243 battalion of the Nigerian Army stationed at Monguno Barracks. The insurgents killed an undetermined number of soldiers and wounded the brigade commander of the barracks. Our sources said soldiers who put up resistance to the invading insurgents were killed, adding that many soldiers then ran in different directions. They disclosed that 1,400 soldiers were stationed at the barracks at the time of the attack, adding that military authorities were not aware of their exact whereabouts or how many of them had been killed. “We still don’t know what has happened to them [soldiers], but we know that Boko Haram now controls the barracks and Monguno town,” one officer based in Abuja confirmed. Despite the losses, Nigerian Defense Headquarters said the military was conducting air raids around the besieged barracks, adding that soldiers had to tactically withdraw from the town due to injuries sustained by the brigade commander and others. Contrary to our earlier report that Nigerian troops had repelled attacks on the barracks, our sources said the military facility had fallen to the Islamist terrorists. “They [Boko Haram] have gained full control of the barracks, together with all the weapons there,” one senior military source told us over the phone. The source echoed a statement by another military source in Maiduguri, capital of Borno State, that the Islamist fighters had killed many soldiers and a huge number of civilians in Monguno. Monguno town, home of the overrun barracks, is 85 miles from Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State. Boko Haram began attacking Monguno and Maiduguri simultaneously since last night, but Nigerian troops succeeded in repelling them from Maiduguri. After an intense battle in the state capital that lasted several hours, Nigerian troops were able to repel the insurgent attack. Nigerian troops said they had killed more than 100 Islamist fighters in the Maiduguri offensive. http://saharareporters.com/2015/01/25/boko-haram-sacks-monguno-barracks-fate-1400-soldiers-unknown |
Buhari momentum surges towards coronation There is not one unbiased analyst who does not expect that as things stand in the 2015 electioneering, the APC candidate, Gen Buhari, would be crowned on February 14. The tide began to turn in favour of the general when the opposition managed a flawless presidential primary last December; and the tide became a mighty wave when, against all expectations, they again managed to select as running mate Prof Osinbajo, a law teacher of great repute, in a political masterstroke seldom seen in these parts. In rally after rally, the APC presidential candidate has attracted waves and waves of crowds on fire for a ticket that has somehow inexplicably become chic and sexy. Few people, except perhaps elitist critics, are interested in what Buhari and his running mate have to say, whether their programmes and manifestos promise the right things, or whether what they promise even angels would not struggle to implement. But the phenomenon is not quite as inscrutable as circumstances make it. The PDP has tried to sully Gen Buhari’s reputation by alleging perjury against him, suggesting he did not have a school certificate as he claimed. It has attempted to whip up emotions against him using some of his policies and actions as head of state in the 1980s. And it has tried to draw a wedge between him and the Yoruba using the animosities, prejudices and bigotries of the past, and projecting upon his idiosyncrasies a dismal future for Nigerians under his presidency. None has worked for the simple reason that the PDP misjudges the mood of the moment, the spirit of the time. First, the PDP and Jonathan sympathisers are unable to appreciate that the leitmotif of this election is the incompetence of Dr Jonathan, his failure as a leader, his weakness in tackling the grave security challenges facing the country. The election is thus not really about Buhari, what he can do or won’t do, what certificates he brandishes or does not hold, what acts of cruelty he performed in the past or acts of kindness . The election is strictly speaking about Dr Jonathan, by what margin to repudiate him, and about how to punish him for the humiliation and disgrace he has brought upon the country locally and internationally. The PDP is already distressed. The more they abuse Gen Buhari and paint him as a monster, the more the crowds at his rallies swell. Though unfortunately the northern yokels have begun to stone Dr Jonathan, perhaps in anger, it is obvious that the president will be extremely lucky to get any sizable vote anywhere in the North, notwithstanding Governor Sule Lamido’s wailing last week that the president’s northern supporters were being stigmatised and intimidated. Nor is it likely that the even more discerning Southwest would leave a ticket on which their erudite son, Prof Osinbajo, is perched to vote for a president who in fact and by his own admission is a woeful failure. Increasingly too, parts of the South-South, a significantly larger part of the North-Central, and parts of the Southeast have begun to swing towards the Buhari column. It is doubtful whether there is any magic by which the coronation of Buhari could be avoided next month. It will happen not because the voters happily trust Gen Buhari, but because they heartily distrust and loath Dr Jonathan. The elections, I think, are already lost and won. It would indeed be risky to try to procure a different outcome by the shenanigans the ruling party is accustomed to. http://thenationonlineng.net/new/buhari-momentum-surges-towards-coronation/ |

Bayelsa PDP Chieftain Fred Oboro Defects To APC; Regrets 6 years of Jonathan Presidency The leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bayelsa State on Friday received Senator Fred Oboro, a defecting chieftain of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Oboro, a former Senator, was received by State Chairman of APC and executives of the party, three senatorial candidates of the party in the forthcoming polls, and party loyalists. Speaking at a news conference, Oboro, who noted that he was a founding member of PDP in Bayelsa, criticized his estranged party for lacking internal democracy. He said that President Jonathan owed the state an apology for neglecting his home state during his six years as President. “In 1998, we laid the foundations for PDP and nurtured the party to become the dominant party that it has become in the state, but the outcome of the recent PDP congress has destroyed the cohesion in the party. “The people of Bayelsa have been yearning for development, and pledged that the APC presidential candidate would reverse the trend,” Oboro said. He expressed the view that Bayelsa has fared better under presidents from the North, recalling that the state was created by General Sanni Abacha while the amnesty programme being enjoyed by the youths of the state was the handiwork of Late President Musa Yar’Adua. He regretted that the Ijaw nation has not benefitted from Jonathan Presidency and declared that those canvassing support for him base their support on mere sentiments. He described a vote for Jonathan as a wasted one and urged the people to collect their permanent voters card and vote in APC in the coming polls. Also speaking at the occasion, Chief Timipre Sylva, a former governor and an APC Senate candidate in the coming polls, said that Oboro, who was a pillar in PDP, will be an asset to APC. He asserted that insecurity, widespread poverty and epileptic power supply would be addressed if APC was elected in the coming elections. He also said that the leadership of the APC would soon receive more credible politicians who have indicated their interest in joining the APC, adding that Bayelsa needs the rest of Nigerian society, with its diversity, to optimally exploit its abundant natural resources for the benefit of its people. Welcoming Oboro to the party’s fold, Bayelsa APC Chairman, Chief Timipa Orunimighe also described the former PDP chieftain as an asset to the party and urged him to join forces to enhance the fortunes of the party in the polls. PDP Allege Buhari Forged Certificate,Principal Says He Has Proof It’s Authentic Despite the presentation of the secondary certificate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, General Muhammadu Buhari, by his school, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential Campaign Organisation (PCO) has described the document as”‘Oluwole” – a euphemism for forgery – and tendered evidence. But the Principal of Government College, Katsina, Alhaji Isiyaku Bello Bello, in a swift reaction, told journalists: “If they are doubting the result, then they should come and see the authentic copy and not the photocopy sent to us by the Cambridge West Africa School. We are here waiting for anybody doubting what we have sent out.” But addressing news men on Thursday, the PDP Presidential Campaign spokesman, Femi Fani Kayode, said, “The results sheet which was attributed to the Cambridge examination body is clearly a super-imposition of one document on another as you will shortly see in the enlarged image of the result sheet as published. The column lines on the part where names are printed do not align with the blank columns while there is an introduction of extraneous lines on some other columns.” He tried to illustrated from a computer the super-imposition on the photo-copied result sheet. “The document contains an obvious alteration on the Mathematics column of the candidate, Mohamed Buhari, who was assumed to have scored an “F” in the subject,” Fani-Kayode continued. “This raises a very fundamental issue of validity in view of the fact that the accompanying result sheet states that “any alteration or erasure renders this statement of Results invalid. This is the standard practice in all interpretation of documents, especially academic records. “The question we put to Gen Buhari and his party is whether this alteration was done by the University of Cambridge. One of the footnotes on the document purportedly issued by the University of Cambridge says: ‘The results of this candidate in all subjects except English Language have been carried forward from the 1960 examination.’ The question arising from this is: When exactly did Buhari sit for all the other subjects claimed to have been passed in the secondary school examination? “Our conclusion from all these is that the documents purportedly released by Government College (Pilot) Katsina, upon which the APC Presidential candidates hopes to bury the doubt about his eligibility for next month’s election are forged, manipulated and fraudulently procured. They are therefore untenable in fact and in law. “We do not know who the authors and masterminds of this forgery are but whoever they are, we urge them to come forward and be identified. If they fail to come forward voluntarily, we hereby call on the Police and other security agencies to seek them out, find them, arrest them, interrogate them and prosecute them in accordance with the laws of the land.” Source: http://www.theparadigmng.com/?p=28154 |

Buhari Certificate Controversy: Army Spokesperson Brigadier Laleye Ignored Redeployment To Address Press Conference The Nigerian Army spokesperson who addressed a press conference on Tuesday to announce that the army could not find General Muhammadu Buhari’s school leaving certificate in its records, had already been redeployed from that post, military sources say. Besides, those documents had just been released to General Buhari, less than 24 hours after the former Head of State requested them, and the sources said they were surprised Brigadier Olaleye Lajide was addressing the press. He was supposed to have handed over to his successor, Colonel SK Usman, and assumed duty as the Brigade Commander of the Fourth Brigade Battalion in Benin City, Edo State. Of the documents, Buhari’s aides said the presidential candidate had not had a chance to look at them since they were sent to his office in Abuja last night by one Major General Abba, while he was busy preparing for campaigns and Kano and Jigawa States. SaharaReporters sources said it was unclear why Brigadier Olaleye, rather than hand over to Colonel Usman, chose to call a press conference to discuss Buhari’s certificates. Meanwhile, Buhari has called a press conference of his own for tomorrow morning. Garba Shehu, Director of Media and Publicity in the APC presidential campaign, said the general will speak about the certificate controversity. Olaleye’s brief stint as the Nigerian Army spokesperson was characterized by controversy. It was he who accused SaharaReporters of supporting Boko Haram because our platform published a comprehensive letter written by an army commander stating why corruption within the highest hierarchy of the Nigerian armed forces has made it impossible for the army to defeat the insurgents. Following our publication of that letter, the GOC of the 7th Division who was accused of corruption in the letter, was replaced a few days ago. EXCLUSIVE: Nigerian Army releases academic records to Buhari 21 Jan, 2015 The Nigerian Army on Tuesday publicly released the academic details of former military leader, Muhammadu Buhari, but denied at the same time it could not vouch for the authenticity of his Senior Secondary Examinations results. Speaking to the media, Army Spokesperson, Olajide Laleye, reversed the Army’s earlier position that it had copies of Mr. Buhari’s West African Secondary School Certificate. Mr. Laleye said while military records showed Mr. Buhari obtained the WASC in 1961, with credits in English Language, Geography, History, Health Science, and Hausa, there were neither the original copy nor certified true copy nor statement of result to confirm the grades. He also said the Army could not confirm whether Mr. Buhari’s claim of obtaining those results was verified by the Army in the 1960s. But military sources say while the Army spokesperson was addressing the media, the Department of Military Secretary the same day was despatching to Mr. Buhari his academic records, which had been requested by the retired general. PREMIUM TIMES has obtained copies of the records showing the military duly noted that Mr. Buhari obtained the requisite WASC qualifications.
