Solid breakdown on the numbers and air-mobile idea in theory, but this whole plan (especially “close the borders”) is highly impracticable and closing Nigeria’s borders is almost impossible because of how extremely porous they are.

Nigeria shares over 4,000 km of land borders with Benin, Niger, Chad & Cameroon. Most of it is unmarked bush, forest, desert and farmland with zero fences, cameras or patrols. Entire communities live across the lines, and cross-border movement (herders, traders, smugglers) has gone on for generations. Arms, fuel, bandits and terrorists move freely every single day.

Even if you deploy all 100k+ troops + helicopters, you can’t physically guard thousands of kilometres of open border 24/7. Smugglers simply go around, bribe their way through, or wait till night. Neighbours like Niger and Chad are themselves unstable and can’t “support” effective closure.

It’s not lack of soldiers but it’s geography, corruption, weak infrastructure and decades of open-border reality. Fixing insecurity needs more than helicopters and tenders; it needs real border tech, political will and ending the internal collusion first.

A division comprises about 10,000 men; Nigeria Army alone has roughly 10 divisions, amounting to at least 100,000 personnel.

Admittedly, not every soldier will carry a rifle; some are mechanics, cooks, accountants, and even doctors. However, Nigeria can field 10,000 men. I have not added Navy and Air Force or civil defense

Nigeria could also issue an international tender for a fleet of 500 helicopters, either for purchase or lease, with mercenary pilots involved.

With the aid of international satellite imagery, it's possible to identify terrorist strongholds and unleash chaos with an air mobile force of 10,000 men.

Close the borders with support from Chad, Niger, Cameroon, and Benin.

Why has this not been implemented?
