PROVEN STEPS TO LIVING A SPIRITUAL LIFE

In a world where there is an increase in crimes, social, spiritual and moral decay amongst other vices, it appears to me that the only hope of society rests in the hands of you and I; every young person who is against the prevailing anomalies. When I walk past the streets of our once safe city, I see potentials; people who ought to be the leaders of our tomorrow, wearing sagged pants with bushy hair chanting “arrow mates” with voices cracked by excessive smoking of weed and other hard materials. Oh! What has our society degenerated into?

I have spent these few days thinking; how did we lose it? How did society lose herspiritual consciousness? How did we fall to this level of decadence? Despite the plenitude of church billboards and signposts in every major street and the alarming rate of gospel telecasts; I am really disappointed.

If the houses built for the impartation of the word of God into the lives of the many that flood their gates have now turned market places and investment houses, we need to turn to the Church. Yes! You saw that right! The Church! I bet you are thinking the church to be one beautiful edifice, constructed with the finest of building materials. That is not the church; the church is You and I!

The scriptures according to 1 Corinthians 3:16-17 states it in these words: “Do you not know that you are a temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? If any man destroys the temple of God, God will destroy him, for the temple of God is holy, and that is what you are”. Our bodies are the dwelling place of God and if we define church as the dwelling place of God then your body is the church. We need to go back to rebranding the church. We need to sweep out anything that pollutes the church. Maybe the societal decadence we are facing today is a fulfillment of the promise of God to destroy anybody who destroys his temple.

In my thoughts, I could smell hope; only if we can go back to rebranding and restructuring the church. How do we achieve that? How do we rebrand and restructure the church? How would it change society? How would it make society a better place? This guide is a starting point; I will explain the five steps to achieving all the questions raised above – 5 steps to living a spiritual life!

1. PRAYERFULNESS: The first step to living a spiritual life is prayer. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood but against principalities and powers in high places, we need to put on the armour of God.Prayer is the key, a man who kneels before God can stand anywhere. Prayer, however, has its rules; you must firstly confess your sins penitently. The prayer of a sinner is an abomination unto the Lord and because we have all sinned and fallen short of the glory of God, we ought to confess our sins and beg for forgiveness before asking for anything. Only when we have confessed our sins and begged for forgiveness can we then ask for anything from God. Many a time, we often pray selfishly; how many of us pray for the will of God to be done instead of our own will? How many of us know that the will of God for us is perfect and good? How many of us know that what we need most is the Holy Spirit? We pray for mundane things and leave the most important things out. Most of us pray only when we have problems; that habit is bad. The devil and his cohorts are never at rest, why should you be at rest? Pray without season! Pray and keeppraying! It is the key to opening all doors and consequently the first step to living a spiritual life. Something happens when you stop complaining and start praying; miracles happen when you stop crying and start praying; victory comes when you stop fighting and start praying. Make a good habit of praying and you will surely kick-start a spiritual life which at the long-run will change society.

2. FLEEING FROM ALL APPEARANCES OFSIN: The second step to living a spiritual life is fleeing from all appearance of sin. Sin is the major dis-connector of man from God. Sin defiles the temple of God. Yes! It defiles the house of God; You and I! Remember what the scripture in 1 Corinthians 3:16-17 (as stated above) says? Our bodies are the dwelling place of God and when we defile our bodies, we make the temple of God unclean and the Spirit of God leaves because God does not dwell in unclean places. When the spirit of God leaves our bodies, we are exposed to a lot of attacks and we become the dwelling place for unclean spirits. The Bible in 1st Thessalonians 5:22 states clearly that we should abstain from all appearances of sin. Sin destroys the body. It may be in any of the forms stated inGalatians 5:19 – 21 viz: “Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.”

Clearly from the scriptural passage above, those who continue in sin cannot inherit the Kingdom of God. To live a spiritual life and consequently change society, one must; in addition to being prayerful, abstain from sin.

3. AVOIDING EVIL COMPANY: The third step to living a spiritual life is a very important step in the process of change. It is important because where and whenever you fail this step, you will have to start the steps all over again. The bible in Psalm 1 v 1 states that “blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.”

The bible also in 1 Corinthians 15 v 33states thus; “be not deceived; evil communication corrupts good manners.” After starting the whole change process with prayers and staying away from sin, you also need to stay away from evil communication and evil company. Many a time, our friends determine where we go, what we do and a whole lot of decisions we make; having bad company will ultimately lead to bad reasoning and evil decisions. Avoid evil company and you will keep the church clean.

4. CONTINUING IN THE WORD: This is the final and most vital of them all. Our Lord Jesus the Christ stated this clearly to the Jews in John 8:31 – 32 “Then said Jesus to those Jews who believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then ye are my disciples indeed; and ye shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free.”

I want to also refer us back to the book of Psalm chapter 1 verses 1 and 2… “Blessed is the man who walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners nor sitteth in the seats of the scornful, but his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in that doth he meditate day and night…” If you dwell in the word of God, the word of God will dwell in you and if the word of God dwells in you; guess what? YES! It is true! Let us confirm if your guess is correct. Let us turn to John 1 verse 1 – “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” WOW! So if we continue in the word, God will dwell in us. If God dwells in us, trust me; society will be better.

Christ Jesus proved that you don't need a sword to fight a war, and you don't need an army to win the battle; He used the Word of God as His sword, and conquered all His enemies.
He did not hate those who hated, rather with love He conquered their hate.
He didn't defend Himself when falsely accused, nor did He employ the services of an attorney, rather He left it to The Father to vindicate and Justify Him.
He did not try to save Himself from death, because He knew that He is in The Father, and The Father is in Him, thus death has no power over Him.
Jesus Christ proves that you don't need to do things in the way and manner prescribed by the world for you to overcome the world.
Just by resting your hope, trust, and faith completely in The Father, and obeying His Words, The Father will overcome the world for you, without you needing a sword, an army, or any form of self defense when you are falsely accused and persecuted.

The Jesus I know never built a church, so I do not believe in the building called church, I believe in the man Jesus The Christ.
The Jesus I know never instructed His disciples at any instance to go and put up a building called church, rather He taught them purity, love, forgiveness, mercy, and compassion, and told them that the true worshippers worship God in spirit and in truth, and that God seeks for those type of worshippers.
The Jesus I know never demanded that anyone sow a so called seed, materially or financially to Him or to His Father before blessing anyone, He rather taught that when you help and do good to anyone, you are doing it to Him.
The Jesus I know never invoked Holy Ghost fire on anyone, no matter how much they antagonize Him, rather He said "love your enemies, bless those who curse you, and do good to those who hate you and persecute you, and pray for those who despitefully use you"; that you may be the children of your Father in heaven who showers rain on both the good and the evil ones.
The Jesus I know prayed The Father to forgive them, even after they had tortured, and crucified Him, He never said Father judge and condemn them, nor did He say Father do to them as they did to me. The Jesus I know never called anyone a witch or a wizard, rather people possessed, He cleansed and delivered of their evil spirit without fanfare, or accusing or condemning them.
The Jesus I know did not go about parading Himself as a man of God in gaudy robes and a flamboyant lifestyle, rather He was simple, humble, down to earth, and unassuming.
The Jesus I know never threatened anybody that He will curse the person because the person had issues with Him, or didn't recognize Him as The Christ. The Jesus I know never patronized the leaders for material gain or favour, rather He told them the truth, without fear or favour. The Jesus I know never told anyone that The Lord said that you should buy me a land, a house, or any other material thing or the other, rather He instructed that they go and give to the poor and needy. The Jesus I know never taught His disciples speaking in tongue, nor He didn't teach them long and protracted prayers, rather He taught them a simple and concise prayer called The Lord's Prayer, and He also said that when they pray they shouldn't use vain repetitions like the heathens do, who think that God will hear them by much speaking. He told them that The Father already knows what they have need of even before they ask Him.
The Jesus I know never instructed anyone to leave his wife or husband because the spouse is a witch, or wizard responsible for the other's misfortune, rather He said none should divorce his wife except for the sake of adultery.
The Jesus I know was a freelancer, He had no special office, or place for meeting people, He met them in all places, and at any time, wherever He found Himself at any point in time is His office, and the place He interacted and taught people.
The Jesus I know never gave instruction that some days are for worship and some are not, He worshipped and taught people The Word of God, everyday, and every time, all times is His time of worship. The Jesus I know never called His disciples Roman Catholics, Pentecostalists, Anglicans, Methodist, Baptist, etc, rather He said to them that "Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you"; He also said that "all ye are brethren". At no time did He give them any special name, what He said was this: "By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another". The Jesus I know never lied, even when it means speaking the truth will cost Him His life, He still spoke the truth, He was never dishonest.
The Jesus I know never judged or condemned anybody, even when a person caught committing adultery was brought before Him, He asked her accusers to stone her if they themselves have never committed any sin, and they all departed in shame; and when He was left with her, He said to her "neither do I condemn you, go and sin no more". The Jesus I know never charged anyone a dime for healing, counseling, or for any of the services He rendered, all that He did, He did gratis, and also told His disciples, freely you receive, freely give. I have chosen to follow the true teachings of Jesus Christ as He laid them out, and not the interpretation given by the churches and men who call themselves men of God, who pervert the teachings of Jesus Christ our Lord in tandem with their manipulative agenda of exploiting their congregation for self aggrandizement.

The fuel scarcity in Nigeria hs revealed dat Nigerians appreciate what is good. Fuel service station dat sell fuel @ N86.00/ N86.50 or about N100.00 had good biz during d fuel scarcity period, as any vehicle/ motor cycle dat buys always fill their tank & their product were rushed. Motorist dont mind sleeping @ d service station waiting 2 buy & after buying they follow with prayers of blessing of God Almighty 4 d opportunity of buying fuel @ normal price.

However, d service station dat sells fuel @ cut throat price find themselves looking 4 buyers. Even, more than 90% of motorist dat goes 2 buy fuel @ such service station hardly buys more than N5,000.00 worth of fuel & in most cases its just d fuel dat ll take them 2 d next place where they can queue 2 buy @ normal price. In some cases they buy fuel of just N200.00. Ironically, u see ppl raining curses after buying fuel @ cut throat price. If d curses hv anything 2 go by who ll suffer d curses?

D fuel scarcity hs created a situation of penny wise, pound foolish. Those selling fuel @ normal price are making good biz as well as sell their products quickly & rcv prayers of blessing frm ppl they dont know. Whereas, those selling @ exorbitant price take long time to sell their product @ in d process rcv curses, face risk of govt task force impounding their product and slamming fine on them.

A miracle is either Divine or manipulated by the devil to lead people astray. For example; the man our Lord Jesus Christ made to see after making spittle and mud and asked him to wash in the river is arranged by God. Prophet Moses in the Scripture has already revealed the personality, mission, apparel/garments of HE that is called SHILOH; likewise the significance of His manifestation.
