The Kano State Government has renamed its Northwest University as Yusuf Maitama Sule University, Kano. The Northwest University is one of the two state-owned universities established by the past Kwankwaso Administration. The Commissioner of Information, Malam Mohammed Garba, announced the decision at a news conference in Kano on Thursday. Garba said the decision was taken during an extraordinary meeting of the State Executive Council which took place on Wednesday night. The Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered Senator Buruji Kashamu to submit himself to the police for investigation in an alleged attempt to carry out a politically motivated assassination on a House of Representatives member, Mr Oladipupo Adebutu. The court refused to stop the police from investigating the Senator representing Ogun East Senatorial district on the alleged crime. Delivering judgment in a suit filed by the Senator, Justice Nnamdi Dimgba said that the police under the 1999 constitution and police act have statutory powers to invite any Nigeria for interrogation on any criminal allegation. Nigeria has apologised to Saudi Arabia after 200 tonnes of dates the kingdom sent as a Ramadan gift were found on sale in local markets. Dates are traditionally the first things Muslims eat when they break the Ramadan fast each evening. The dates were intended for people who had fled their homes because of the Boko Haram Islamist insurgency. The dates were found on sale in markets in Borno state, which has been hardest hit by the Boko Haram conflict. The foreign ministry said that Nigeria's Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons had drawn up a list of places where the dates would be distributed, which included IDP camps and some prominent mosques. |

Manchester United are expected to confirm Zlatan Ibrahimovic's departure on Friday when the club releases its annual player retention list, as per reports. United are believed to have decided against offering the Swedish striker an extension to his one-year deal at Old Trafford, which expires on June 30, despite his 28-goal debut campaign. The 35-year-old is undergoing rehabilitation after a season-ending knee ligament injury suffered in the Europa League quarter-final against Anderlecht in April. And with his recovery expected to continue for a number of months, United have begun to look for a replacement in the summer transfer market. The former Sweden front man played 46 games under Jose Mourinho in 2016-17 but injury ruled him out of the final 10 matches of the season, including the Europa League final win against his former club Ajax in Stockholm.
