I weep for Nigeria.....the same Buhari led administration that stopped the Lagos metro rail project in 1983.......the problem with Nigerians is that we forget to easily. I really hope this new Oyo state government takes this up as much as it's a federal project.

Car Talk7 Ways To Spot An Experienced Lagos Driver by Immune1(op): 10:14am On Nov 16, 2016
Ever heard the saying that if you can drive in Lagos that you can drive anywhere in the world? I bet drivers in Dominican Republic or Niue island may disagree but the truth is driving in Lagos has a myriad of avoidable complexities. As much as it may be difficult to substantiate, I can boldly say that the number one cause of traffic in Lagos is ‘impatience’; many may argue that the volume of activities and number of vehicles (registered vehicles estimated to be above 2million by FRSC) drives this traffic levels up. But in many ways these realities are exacerbated by Lagosians being impatient and taking traffic laws into their hands.

The root problem of this Lagos driving is a heightened or blown out version of a fundamental Nigerian problem; which is lack of proper driver training institutions, lack of a thorough license awarding system and inconsistent enforcement of traffic laws. Majority of Nigerian drivers are indeed guilty of learning most about driving on the road rather than in proper training centers.

So how does one spot a Lagos driver that has extensively gone through the unstructured training on the streets to gain hard-earned experience stripes on the never-smiling streets/roads of Lagos, Nigeria? These are few tips:

Side mirrors are priceless: In Lagos the very natural instincts of other drivers when your pointer beeps is for them to speed up and attempt beating you to the turn; I can’t explain why and how but best believe that this insane instinct is so real! So after making known your intention to make a turn, an experienced Lagos knows that whether or not the coast was clear of obstructing okadas (motorcycles) or cars a few seconds ago, you still need to double-check with your side mirror-because its Lagos of course!

Mobile phones, food, newspapers may be close but are totally off-limits whilst driving: the simple truth here is that #30,000 Naira can do a whole lot for you in Nigeria’s current recession stricken economy. You don’t want to hand that down to LASTMA or the VIO because of a few moments of financial indiscretion(s).

In the end Police are your real friends: when it comes to the expediency of ‘sorting things’ out quickly before things get out of hand or just before the yellow navy ‘enter your matter’, you can bank on these gallant men in black! I will say no more on this matter, as those who know- know what I mean #winks!

Experienced drivers know when not to drive: taking a public bus is almost always the cheapest but not always the most convenient movement option in Lagos. A shrewd understanding of the city, its rush hours, the one-way red hot zones, the impracticable no-parking zones etc, helps in knowing when best to hail an uber, take a cab or join any of the public bus options. In literal terms, your honest quest for utmost comfort in moving around from one place to the other may lead to aggravated stress levels.

Spotting fakes spare-parts and unskilled mechanics takes a special understanding/experience: Ever wondered how some drivers sound like experienced Toyota spare-parts importers when they are in search of some specific quality spare-parts? Wonder no more, because it comes with experience; I can rephrase this statement accurately by saying that ‘in Lagos them must chop you for you to learn’-that’s true experience!

Speed is never a virtue: as it may apply to even other cities around the world, shortcuts and true knowledge of the road is priceless. Luckily for Lagosions the city has a good road network, arguably one of the bests in Nigeria. Really experienced drivers know when an alternative route makes a good alternative.

There is absolutely no wisdom in dragging with Danfos: they will literally drag you and your car to their level. In dealing with aggressive commercial vehicles there is one cardinal rule: BE PRECISELY DARING-needless say, experienced Lagos drivers know this!

PoliticsRe: Buhari Unbundles NNPC Into 7 Units by Immune1(m): 11:27pm On Mar 08, 2016

Good analysis, it would seem the essential constitutional work required for this action had been undertaken by the Yar'adua and GEJ governments who like in many other cases did not have the guts or will power to see it to an end.
As far as i know there is no legislative backing for this action which is a flagrant disregard of our constituition as it is now. This is one of the issues the proposed/frustrated PIB bill was about.
Its very funny and annoying at the same time how you jumped into the conclusion that GEJ/Yardua had no balls to see this through the unbundling of NNPC.......as in the case of BVN/TSA which GEJ created and tried to instituitionalize in the shortest frame of time.Nigeria is a somewhat complex Nation and very monumental changes have to come after extensive dialogue.
Buhari's unilateral style will do him no good.......he did it by joining the Islamic coalition and he is doing it again.....he needs to exercise caution in his dealings whether or not he has Nigeria's good interest at heart.

Excellent comment.... There really are misplaced priorities... Industries would've been soo much better. As for the beautification of Uyo, pls visit the interiors and life out there is somefin else... Was once in d city and after marvelling at how beautiful d city is, I had cause tto visit nwaniba(inside uyo) and it was a far cry from d beauty I saw in strategic places. Governance should be about increasing d lot of d populace not going on some fancy jumbo projects the common man won't benefit from... What's the percentage of akwa ibomites that can afford a ticket to that stadium... Nor is governance about giving of luxury cars to artistes... All in all, Obong Godswill Akpabio tried.... Though to me, his priorities were rather misplaced
Because it is Chinese that will chauffeur hotel buses, abi Indonesians that will work in these hotels......or maybe its aliens that will be exposed to world class hotel management which will set a benchmark in hospitality abihuh? How are his priorities misplaced ejohhuh? The hospitals that are already employing and will employ more health personnelshuh?Abi the roads that will ease logistics and reduce the average cost of doing business in the statehuh? In case you dont know an MOU has been signed with a Chinese company by Nsik motors to assemble buses in the state; all of which will ride on the immensely enhanced transportation framework (which inspite of all that has been done more needs to be done). Have you heard of Seven energy that supplies gas to power plants in Crossriver and recently in Aba with intentions to expand to other plants in the regionhuh??If you wanna hate pls do such with a more style

Truth be told, our leaders are massively shortsighted in governance, and i am sure that only a chronic village person whose brain has suffered severe setback or those who are narrow minded would praise this project, in a country like nigeria, we only judge politicians based on capital projects, how could a governor waste so much money in building hotel when the people are living below per capita income but we nigerians just like celebrating mediocre. Of what economic importance is that hotel to the people of the state, how will it suck up unemployment in the state, can it contain up to 2000 people in terms of employment, for how long can it attract foreign ivestor,
Mr Economics, today because of maybe how nice the hotel is or whatever reason, this news prompted the moderator to move this to the front page for free. As we are discussing Akwa-Ibom is riding on an enthusiastically fueled organic publicity, which am sure is driving curiosity. This state has secured a massive tourism market during the yuletide periods, the goal is to extend this tourism drive to other times of an annual calender. Naturally people feel inclined to invest in say Lagos or Abuja; i cant say same for Akwa-Ibom, hence the need for government to invest in these types of equities because hotels are needed to sustain a viable tourism drive.............like Dubai. But another part of the picture you may not see is the silent drive to sustain health and sports tourism.

I live in uyo and the only thing close to the computer generated graphics shown here is a long forgotten and abandon project site. Unfortunately I don't av a true picture of it because it is an ugly sight. We build hotels cenima and well decorated football pitch here as hospitals and schools are of lesser priority.

the new management of PAN you see today is as a result of the Jonathan led intervention.Grants were given to both PAN (with management reshuffled) and Innoson.Jonathan single-handedly revived PAN which became almost moribund under the Obasanjo led government. Its only sensible businesses align with the government soon to be in power......but never let it skip your mind that those guys visiting Buhari are relevant today cos of the combined efforts of Fg through NAC.
PoliticsRe: BUHARI GOVT: Eyeing Lagos Template To Solve Power Crisis. by Immune1(m): 10:16am On May 12, 2015
Modular power stations are very welcome for industry clusters as proposed already by NERC, but this decentralized system isnt sustainable for domestic use/applications because of the unit cost of generating power per KW. Akwa-Ibom for instance has what it takes to power the state because it can afford it; i cant say same for Ebonyi or Imo states. What Buhari should do is continue the current approach and encourage more clusters where government can offer incentives (like free-land or lower tax) to serve as some form of subsidy for the relatively higher unit cost of electricity from modular facilities.
I may be wrong but i feel the current system is in line with how we control resources in Nigeria or how revenue from oil gotten from the Niger-delta region is shared across the states of the federation. If power generation is decentralized then we need to consider regional resource control.
PoliticsRe: 5 Unscripted Lessons/Gains Of The Jonathan Government by Immune1(op): 1:51pm On Apr 02, 2015

By Akan Inyang

As a nation we have been through a lot of internal conflicts and international criticisms, but inspite of these seemingly insurmountable upset Nigeria still prevails as single growing nation. Unfortunately the major drivers of politics today are ethnicity and religion as opposed to competence and integrity; these are the reasons why we are stuck with the kind of leaders we have. But in the end every nation has its story and today this is the Nigerian story.
Goodluck Ebele Jonathan is one of our realities and today he is our president. Beyond what majority of Nigerians or international communities may feel about this person or his government, I strongly believe that in these times Nigeria needed and still needs a president like him. Kindly exercise a little patience to read further and uncover some of my reasons; most of which are not conventional I must say.

His personality has encouraged Nigerians to truly embrace ‘freedom of speech’: Jonathan’s calm and humble personality allows well placed and even ordinary Nigerians voice their opinions in more ways than we have ever witnessed in the Nigerian history. This has set an irreversible trend that no president after him can suppress or reverse by any form of intimidation. More than we have ever witnessed today, common Nigerians now have a very audible voice which has been amplified by the social media and deeply entrenched freedom of press Nigeria enjoys today.

His story is phenomenal and gives hope to the average Nigerian man: we all know the Goodluck ‘no shoes’ story; his humble beginnings and how he dramatically rose to the seat of the president of Nigeria by staying humble with a clear sense of purpose and unbridled ambition. Many say it’s just mere ‘Goodluck’ but his rise and rise has been a combination of ‘hardwork and smartwork’ behind the scenes; you simply can’t take that away from this man.

Patience Jonathan is a strong reminder that Nigerian women can be successful by simply being ‘real’ and sticking with a good man: clearly this woman is a reminder to all young women that for you to be the wife of a successful man you don’t have to be sophisticated- based on western standards. All you have to do is be the best you can be; be Nigerian and be yourself! You all will agree with me today that our Nigerian women hold very highly skewed validations and impossible standards which so far is depleting our culture and our true sense of belonging which stands the risk of being passed on to the next generation. On another note, you need to watch her Okrika campaigns/community engagements (in pidgin and her local dialect) for you to appreciate her funny, witty, bold and audacious side which most definitely compliments her husband.

The Jonathan story drives home the fact that there is nothing like a ‘born leader’: leadership is a continuous learning process where you learn from mistakes, get better and better. Just as Goodluck Jonathan has gotten better in making decisions, bolder in making speeches and more assertive than he was back in 2010. The truth is you can never become a great leader in one day; it’s a hard-biting process.

Jonathan is a patient man trying to inculcate the ‘patience virtue’ in Nigerians: For you to appreciate the Jonathan transformation you need a patient mind as the Nigerian problem today is a summation of many short-term solutions to appease the normal ‘quick gratification cravings’ of an average Nigerian. If we embraced long-term solutions (in areas like power, transportation, automotive industry, capitalist-driven job creation, monetary policies etc.) in the past, we definitely won’t be where we are today. Simply put, Jonathan isn’t doing things that pleases the eyes of an average Nigerian, neither is he doing most of what we want; rather he is focusing on our real needs which are sustainable in the long-term and in the near future eg, the re-construction of the Benin-Ore/ Abuja-Lokoja roads took time to build, but today these are the best quality of roads ever built in Nigeria-I repeat-best quality of roads ever in Nigeria- also the revived railway system after 28years of rot will ensure that these roads lasts even longer.

Am I saying he is the best Nigeria has to offer? A big NO!

My motivation to pen down a few of my observations is because Buhari is not the ‘change messiah’ many have tagged him as; rather Jonathan is a confirmed progressive transformer Nigeria needs today.
Clearly he needs your support, but always remember that whether or not you offer your individual support, it won’t stop progress, true democracy and moving forward from the old ways because there a many Nigerians that share the same thoughts like me!
I see no reason why this shouldnt make front page.

Am still on the topic and never deviate cos they are all go in d same way. How will government reduce taxes to zero when oil prices is falling? Remember we have been running on deficit budget even when oil was selling 4 $110pb and revenue generation tru tax levies.

Now, oil price is declining which will definitely be shortfall in revenue generated from oil proceed. The other aspect of fiscal policy is efficient tax collection to finance the budget..........its a simple logic. Instead of your proposal to reduce tax to zero, tax will be increase to finance budget
You make it sound like there is no connection between increased local productivity and increased revenue from taxationhuhMore local manufacturing leads to more companies and hence more revenue from taxation
.When job creation potential increases government can conveniently shed its agencies and salaries........which overtime translates to lower recurrent expenditure and possibility of higher capital expenditure laced with a stronger GDP per capita.
