As if dominating the first-person shooter genre on PC and console with Call of Duty was not enough, video game publisher Activision has set its sights on the mobile space. And no, it's not a first-person shooter on mobile. Although it is a Call of Duty game. Titled Call of Duty: Heroes, it takes inspiration from online-strategy hybrid, Clash of Clans. What this means is, all the things you know and love (or possibly hate) about CoC are present. From building and protecting your base to raiding other player's bases, it's all here in Call of Duty: Heroes. And it's all doused with a liberal number of micro-transactions to boot with the most being Rs. 6,200 for the Prestige Celerium Pack. Celerium is the game's premium currency which lets you speed up building your arsenal or buy resources. Furthermore, characters across games such as Captain Price from the Modern Warfare arc or Mike Harper from Black Ops II are available in- game in Call of Duty: Heroes as hero units. Each hero has his own set of special abilities and progression path. Where Call of Duty: Heroes does differ from your bog standard base-building, resource-managing affair are your special abilities. These let you launch missile drone strikes or control a chopper mini-gun in first person which is a pretty nice touch. By and large however, it's a fairly simply Clash of Clans clone featuring a near sci-fi look and feel that's similar to the series' last few games. Developed by Chinese studio Faceroll, Call of Duty: Heroes is out on iOS, Android, and Windows as well. Have you played the game yet? What do you think? Let us know in the comments.

Spanish researchers have devised a new method that ensures that information is shared quickly and effectively using Bluetooth technology. Bluetooth technology is the most widespread standard wireless communication. One of its applications is the creation of electronic sensor networks. Researchers from the University of the Basque Country in northern Spain studied the performance of Bluetooth networks and measured the delays taking place in information transmission time. For example, "The elderly in the home are fitted with electronic sensors which are used to measure their body temperature, heart rate, etc and to forward the data to the nursing department," said lead researcher Josu Etxaniz- Maranon from the university's Electronic Design Research Group. Time is a critical factor and the interval that elapses between measuring a person's heart rate and receiving the data should be as short as possible, he added. The research team designed a hardware platform with specific cards that communicate via Bluetooth and form networks. "In this multi-hop system, we have transferred the data from one end of the network to the other and then brought them back efficiently," Etxaniz-Maranon added. The scientific literature has devoted many pages to Bluetooth technology, but the time performance of the support nodes on the hardware platforms has received very little attention, the authors noted. Our model puts forward the key equations to predict the time lags and can be applied to any Bluetooth network, they said.

Out of millions of iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus users, a few have complained about their phones' screens being extremely prone to scratches. Customers on the Apple Support Communities have stated that the corners, and even the middle of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus' screens can been seen with fine scratches within weeks of use. The forum post initiated by a user named jake.underwood26 at the time of writing had more than 127,520 views and 784 replies, most of which confirmed the issue. "Have been taking EXTREMELY good care of my 6+, but the corners already have visible scratches. Anyone else experiencing this?," said the user. Another user added "Yes, haven't had it for a full week and I already see a scratch in the middle of my screen. I take extremely good care of the phone. iPhone 6 4.7-inch here." While the exact material used in the display of iPhone 6 is not yet confirmed, Apple has been touting the devices' screen with a unique "strengthened Ion-X" glass, which is said to be tougher than regular screen covers. While the exact reason for such a vulnerability is not yet known, Apple Insider speculates the reason to be the curved display glass with no bezel. Notably, the previous models used flat screen protected with bezels from all the sides. Apple is yet to address the issue. The Cupertino-based tech firm on Friday made its iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 3 available to buy in India. The tablets are available to purchase via Apple Shops, premium resellers, and e-commerce sites such as Flipkart and Infibeam. To find the closest Apple Shops and premium resellers near you, you can visit Apple India's site. |

Popular lingerie brand, Victoria's Secret, is now selling a heart-rate monitor compatible sports bra that houses the required sensors within the fabric. "Incredible by Victoria's Secret Heart-rate Monitor Compatible Sport Bra" is priced between $72.50 - $75.50,While all the heart-rate monitor compatible sensors are built into the fabric, users will additionally need a heart-rate monitoring device to check the data collected. The listing specifies compatibility with 'leading brands' of monitors, but nothing further. No belt is required, reports Wearable Tech Insider. Notably, the company behind the technology, named Clothing+, is the same company that has been behind sports tech from the likes of Adidas and Under Armour. Earlier this year, during the CES, wearable tech was the hottest things on display. It witnessed the Sensoria Fitness bra, T-shirt and socks, which can connect to a smartphone and is designed for runners and others who want to monitor their health and improve workouts. Similarly, last year, Microsoft had also designed a 'smart bra', which featured removable sensors that monitor heart and skin activity, and inferred whether the wearer is feeling stress. The ostensible purpose of the 'bra sensing system' is to help prevent stress-related overeating. Designed by a team from Microsoft's visualisation and interaction research group, along with researchers at the University of Rochester and University of Southampton, the smart bra features a GRASP (Generic Remote Access Sensing Platform) board that is powered by a Lithium-Ion battery, and can sample up to eight bio-signals. Four sensors have been bundled on the bra, and linked to the GRASP board - an electrocardiogram (EKG) sensor, an electrodermal activity sensor (EDA) for measuring skin conductance, and two movement sensors, a 3-axis accelerometer and 2-axis gyroscope. |

Regarded as one of the best ways to store high- definition movies and television shows because of their high-density data storage capacity, Blu-ray discs have also shown to improve the performance of solar cells, says a new research. The pattern of information written on a Blu-ray disc works very well for improving light absorption across the solar spectrum, the findings showed. "We had a hunch that Blu-ray discs might work for improving solar cells, and, to our delight, we found the existing patterns are already very good," said Jiaxing Huang, associate professor at the Northwestern University in the US. "It is as if electrical engineers and computer scientists developing the Blu-ray technology have been subconsciously doing our jobs, too," Huang added. Blu-ray discs contain a higher density of data than DVDs or CDs and when this quasi-random pattern, perfected by engineers over decades for data storage, is transferred to the surface of solar cells, it provides the right texture to improve the cells' light absorption and performance. The researchers tested a wide range of movies and television shows stored on Blu-ray discs, including action movies, dramas, documentaries, cartoons and black-and-white content, and found the video content did not matter. All worked equally well for enhancing light absorption in solar cells. The findings appeared in the journal Nature Communications. |

A new report has claimed that Samsung's current flagship, the Galaxy S5 has underperformed in the global market leading to thousands of the devices 'piling up' in warehouses. The Wall Street Journal cites sources who say that as a result, the South Korean company is now considering a shake-up at the management level. The report suggests that the company sold only 12 million Samsung Galaxy S5 units in the first three months after its launch, which if compared to its predecessor (the Galaxy S4), is 4 million less. The company overall sold nearly "40 percent fewer than projected". The report further added that sales were down over 50 percent in China while the US market was the only "major market" for Samsung where an increase in sales figures were claimed. Samsung is said to have overestimated demand for the Galaxy S5, which has led to a situation where the company is spending more on advertising to help move units which are piled up in its warehouses. A Samsung spokesperson, when contacted by The Verge declined to comment on the report and said, "We don't comment on rumours and speculation." The figures are surprising considering that JK Shin, Head of Samsung's Mobile Business, claimed back in May that the company had shipped more than 11 million Galaxy S5 smartphones since its launch, which was said to be more than the 10 million Galaxy S4 units that sold in the same amount of time last year. Top-level executive changes said to be under consideration include JK Shin "possibly ceding his role". However, the report adds that the plans are "far from final." Samsung, at a recent Investor Forum, announced plans to slash the number of smartphone models it issues next year by up to a third. Samsung also reported that its July-September quarterly profit was the lowest in more than three years, suggesting a decline in earnings from its smartphone business since 2011.

Telecom operator Bharti Airtel has sold its 4,800 mobile towers in Nigeria to US based American Towers Company for about $1.05 billion (roughly Rs. 6,500 crores) in a move to pare debt. In a joint statement, Airtel and ATC announced that they have entered into an agreement "for the sale of over 4,800 of Airtel's communications towers in Nigeria." Airtel will be the anchor tenant on the portfolio under a lease with a ten-year initial term, it added. The agreement has been signed between Bharti Airtel subsidiary, Bharti Airtel International (Netherlands) BV (Airtel) and ATC. ATC in a statement said: "The total consideration is expected to be approximately $1.05 billion (roughly Rs. 6,500 crores), subject to customary adjustments." "We are pleased to announce the launch of our operations in Nigeria while expanding our relationship with Airtel, one of the leading multinational operators in the world," American Tower President and Chief Executive Officer Jim Taiclet said. At the end of September 2014, Airtel had a consolidated debt of Rs. 62,215.8 crore. The deal is expected to be completed in the first half of 2015. The Indian telecom major is looking to sell off its mobile tower asset in Africa and focus on telecom services business only. "Nigeria is the largest mobile market in Africa and a key one for Airtel. This agreement, which is part of our stated philosophy of promoting infrastructure sharing, will provide us with considerable cost efficiencies and at the same time allows us to sharpen our focus on the customer," Bharti Airtel Africa MD and Chief Executive Officer Christian de Faria said. Airtel initially had about 15,000 mobile towers across. In September, Airtel sold about 3,500 telecom towers in Africa to Eaton Towers
