FoodRe: Analysing What Went Wrong In Hilda Baci's Jollof World Record Attempt by Inception(m): 2:18pm On Sep 16, 2025
brain54:
The leg and weight of the pot held...

Until it was being lifted for weighing.

Everything went well until that point.

The problem was the uneven distribution of the weight during lifting with the rope that was supported by the crane.

The weight wasn't distributed fairly and you can watch the video to see how the pot caved inwards from the point the ropes where attached.

Ofcourse, it still boils down to physics and the pot weakened by heat as you suggest.

But if they had a better way to attach those ropes and distribute the weight before lifting that pot the incident of the caving or collapse wouldn't have occurred.

It's good attempt for Hilda baci. She has done well and achieved the most important aim of her mission which is marketing and boosting her brand.

I like her courage for her attempt. I did learn many things from her in the area of brand boosting etc.

Like I said she did well and I congratulate her!
You, sir deserve my respect.

You are the only person who realized the problem.

Adequate lifting studies should have been done to avert the failure ( to a large extent)
BusinessRe: Nigerians Must Obtain Tax ID To Operate Bank Accounts By 2026 - New Tax Law by Inception(m): 9:09am On Sep 12, 2025
harjay1986:
Yes even if it foreign remittance You will pay tax on it except you allow it to come in through crypto but even as that once you convert your crypto to naira and send the money to your bank account ... you will pay personal income tax on it just that it might be once in a year .... except if what you receive is bellow taxable range like 1m within a year .... but if you receive anything like 2.5million and above in a year that money will be tax once
Not true.

Your money will not be taxed. What will happen is that once the money hitting your acct meets a threshold, it will be flagged by your bank to the tax authority. Then you may be required to explain yourself

What you may then need to do is you perform self assessment ( e.g declare the amount that is income to you then pay tax on it, as long as it is above 800k / year for individuals)

Thank you OP, I am a Portfolio Manager (private practice), what does the new tax law say about those who repatriate their investment income into Nigeria but domiciled in foreign currency? The previous tax law actually exempted us from paying taxes as long as we are bringing in our income in foreign currencies
I think the fact is, as long as you are not resident in Nigeria ( you live in Nigeria for less than 6 months in a year), this should still not apply to you. It will be considered that you pay tax to your host country

InvestmentRe: Mutual Funds by Inception(m): 10:49am On Aug 06, 2025
Neurotika:
Let me say this again for those at the back: stop fixating on compounding frequency when evaluating which fund to invest in. You should only start comparing compounding frequency when the rates are nearly identical, or when the fund with monthly compounding offers a slightly better rate.

But the moment a quarterly compounding fund offers even a 1% higher rate, it will easily outperform the monthly one.

So instead of fixating on how often interest is compounded, focus on what really matters:

What’s the actual rate of return?
How consistent is the fund’s performance?
What are the fees and terms?

These are the things that truly shape your returns, not the technicalities of compounding schedules. Just my two cents
Thank you for your submission on the topic.

Actually i am a greenhorn on this, and to be frank my question is regardless who offers the best rate of return ( based on the highlighted). I only want to know how the compounding is usually done as a base case. Of course there will be fees and other outcomes beyond predictability, which I will be ready to embrace once ready.

FRANKLYex:
their service is consistence. Only that their return is always less to that of STANBIC but also higher than others in the sector
Thanks for this.

Just a little clarification needed, How is the compounding like, following the breakdown you shared? For instance if I consider the interest per month, we are looking at 1.7-1.73% per month. In the event i decide to to make contributions consistently every month, will the interest ( 1.7% ) be compounded every month likewise for the Principal + contribution?

BusinessRe: Naira Down To N1,510/$ In Parallel Market by Inception(m): 12:25pm On Mar 04, 2025
NothingDoMe:
Not when there is a corresponding drop in FX reserves of about $2.2 billion. That already tells a lot about your economy.

The CBN was forced to defend the Naira despite the FX influx from "Detty December" because of the ripple effect of Trump's victory.

Trump is also about to ramp up shale oil production to crash crude oil prices again. This will lead to greater devaluation of the Naira or massive depletion of FX reserves to sustain the Naira.

So you don't only look at your local indices. The global economy sadly has more power to negatively affect your local indices overnight.

Oh, I wouldn't advise you to trade in stocks if you don't have the heart to bear the losses from such a high-risk investment. Stick to money market instruments instead. If you invest like ₦300 million, you'll get around a 21% return; like ₦5 million every month.
It is people like you that still make me believe there is hope for this country.

Smart submission sir!

Why is it that it is only on Nairaland I can find this news?

This report was dated on 18th of February, stating the reserves as at November 2024.

It is so sad that such fake news can get to front page and the Mods are turning blind eye to it!!!
