^ try searching for a python. Its more harmless than a poisonous one. So you neednt kill it. Unkess you eat it Then maybe these Narialanders will accept you. Coz me ive been exposed to hostile treatment here ever since I joined. At first I thought it was because I am Indian. But now I realised it was because I never caught my own snake. |
Nairaland General › Caught A Snake In My Bathroom by IndianBwoy(op): 9:56pm On Mar 18, 2016 |
Hi, first of all, I am Indian. I realised that it is a fashion in Nairaland to catch snakes. So i set out myself to find one, since I realised in Nigerian culture if you catch snakes it is considered a matter of pride, so if I caught one id me more assimilated and accepted into the Nigerian fold. So anyways, I did not have to look far. I entered my bathroom for a shower and I see this lovely poisonous adder writing on the floor. We then catch it and put it in a bucket. However I could not bring myself to kill it as it is taboo in my culture. The fine among my tribe for killing a snake or coming across a dead snake (especially the King Cobra), is to organize a funeral for it and feed the entire village (min. 100 people). So obviously that'd be a costly affair which i do not wish to indulge in. We then left the serpent in some outgrown grasses outside. So I hope this capture is sufficient enough for me to be accepted as a Nairalander

Enypie: I'm not surprised. Well, what about the Tigers that hunts your people down as food and you/they still worship them. Haa! Extremely hilarious. Ues the tiger is also a sacred diety among our people. It is a forest spirit. Every once a year we paint our bodies as tigers and dance in front of households. Also killing tigers in India can get you many years in jail and hefty fines coz they are endangered. And India's National Animal. Tigers are confined to protected forest reserves where humans are forbidden from entering although people do illegally.
