I know it is real.. but some states is using covid 19 as an opportunity to exploit the government. Too bad we won't know if the figures we see everyday is even realistic or not. |

Odubu’s Gubernatorial Experience Is Paramount To The Growth Of Edo’s Economy By Isaac Asabor https://www.herald.ng/odubus-gubernatorial-experience-paramount-growth-edo-economy/ All things being equal, Edo state will be going to the polls in September to elect a new governor that would be considered to have what it takes to engender better governance. Therefore, there must need to decide the fate of the State and that of those of us at home and in the diaspora as well as those unborn. Without any iota of exaggeration, ensuring that a credible and experienced leader in the State becomes the governor in the next political dispensation demands that primordial sentiment is eschewed in all ramifications. Who would ever have thought that a simple plastic card could wield the power of deciding who becomes the governor? It has crossed my mind that some may shy away from voting because of the enormity of the verdict. Is this the first time we are going to the polls? No. Is there something different about this time? Yes. A resounding, yes! What is different at this time? To answer the foregoing question, it is expedient to assert that there is no denying the fact that the coming elections; both primaries across party divides, and the gubernatorial election will put Edolites into the collective mood of sober reflection where they would ruminate over the chequered political history that Edo is characterized with since 1991. They will no doubt look back into their past for rationalizations of their present and more critically, redefine a “golden era” from which they can chart afresh paths into their future. Personally, the foregoing outlook graphically paints the picture that would be witnessed by all God-fearing people of Edo state during the conduct of both elections that are been expected before the end of the year. The need to have an experienced leader as governor in the next political dispensation cannot be argued as the economic development of any of the 36 federating states in Nigeria is highly dependent on experienced leadership. This is particularly so because the core values of a state are directly linked to equality and equal distribution of resources. Leadership plays a key role in sustainable economic growth as it involves providing opportunities for growth and progressive developments. Therefore, experienced and good leadership becomes a visible aspect all through. It is not an exaggeration to say that Obaseki’s led administration in the state was borne out of the need to entrench a “continuity” government as a way of building on the sterling legacy of the former governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole and his then deputy, Dr. Pius Odubu. As collectively agreed at the time by key stakeholders in the party, Obaseki was considered to be the best choice then among other candidates by being the “engine room” of the administration and his leadership background as a technocrat. However, how far he has performed based on the consideration of being an “engine room” and a technocrat is left for the court of public opinion. To put it bluntly, not few Edolites are unhappy with the quality of governance in the state, and this is no doubt very understandable as distrust runs high amid fiscal pressures are unprecedentedly mounting, so much so that service delivery in most cases does not reach a large demographic segment of the population in the state. Be that as it may, the barometer of public opinion in the state suggests that the incumbent governor has done his best, or better still reached his tether’s end, particularly when viewed from the fact that he has unarguably been bringing his past experiences as a technocrat and chairman of Edo State Economic and Strategic Team to bear on the ongoing leadership process. Simply put, there are still agitations from a a wide spectrum of the population in the state that his overall performance so far still leaves much to be desired. Given the context of the foregoing views, it is expedient to say since there is a dire need for a leader that can take the state to the next level in terms of massively building its infrastructure and engender a people-oriented government, the overriding consideration among Edolites ahead of the next political dispensation is to eschew primordial sentiment in all its ramifications and continue to look at the bigger picture by voting for the right candidate with gubernatorial experience. As one of the most admired states in Nigeria, Edo is expected to be blessed with an experienced leader that can demonstrate enviable leadership qualities in the delivery of services to the public. This stems from the fact that good public governance is crucial for political stability, economic efficiency, long-term economic growth, and raising the quality of life for all citizens in the state and the diaspora. Against the foregoing backdrop, there is no denying the fact that it would augur well for the development of Edo state in the next political dispensation if a leader that has gubernatorial experience is voted for. As it is now, the only candidate for the next elections; both primaries and general elections, that has gubernatorial experience is Dr. Pius Odubu; having been the Deputy Governor to former Governor Adams Oshiomhole in a two-tenured administration that is today undeniably adjudged by political observers and the man on the street to be a successful administration. Permit me to throw light on the responsibilities a typical deputy governor is charged with at any given political dispensation. Firstly, the Office of the Deputy Governor is constitutionally recognized to carry out State responsibilities as may be assigned by the Governor of the State. The Deputy Governor, apart from being the head of his or her office equally carries out assignments for the Governor, and can be assigned the responsibility of supervising an office or offices. He can also be charged with the responsibilities of becoming the chairman of a committee and has the mandate to deputize for the Governor on all State matters as may be delegated as well as being the vice-chairman of the State Executive Council, vice chairman of the State Security Council and can equally be in charge of the coordination of local government chieftaincy committees. In the same vein, he may oversee the ministerial portfolio as may be assigned by the Governor, and charged with any other duty as may equally be assigned by the Governor. In the same vein, there is no denying the fact that having served as a legislator that Odubu as a governor will know the importance of building personal relationships with lawmakers and meeting regularly with leaders from representatives of various parties in the house. Against the foregoing experiences that Odubu no doubt possesses, there is no denying the fact that he is the man Edolites should go for as their messiah ahead of the next political dispensation. Let me conclude by saying that nine times out of ten, no one gets hired to be a receptionist at a small office without possessing a related experience. The Governorship position is the highest and most powerful job in Edo. If anyone needs the experience to make it in the fields of business, Law, Medicine, or construction, why should the highest office be any different?

The Edo State polity had been mired in the capture of deception and needless crisis. This has badly impacted against urbane politicking and good governance. There had been impropriety and renegade politics, thus reducing to scantiness the bountiful dividends the people had reaped from the eventful eight years stay of Comrade Adams Oshiomhole and Dr. Pius Odubu, as governor and deputy governor, respectively. There is hardly kudos and no substantial gains by the four plaguing years when Mr. Godwin Obaseki, with Hon Philip Shaibu, his deputy, assumed power. The duo had wasted the goodies and public trust bequeathed to them. Consequently, Edo people are the butt of the crisis induced by Mr. Obaseki, as they now seek for a replacement and enduring solutions to the problems, through another chance to elect a capable governor and his deputy, to turn things better. So therefore, it is imperative that most of the members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the general voters be reinforced in their existing and common understanding that Dr. Odubu needed to be picked as a consensus candidate, amongst the APC aspirants and subsequently voted in as governor. The emphasis on Odubu as choice by consensus and to win the election, with APC, is rightly informed by the fact that the opposition parties, especially the People’s Democracy Party (PDP), are not well placed to win. While the voters are still wary of PDP over its past maladministration, the rest opposition parties are not rooted in the polity to be able to deliver a governor. Instructively, the choice of Dr. Odubu as APC’s consensus candidate is well-informed and most feasible for several reasons. In this trying period of the Covid 19 pandemic, Edo APC may not be able to stand the rigours and hazards of organizing a primaries. More so, a consensus is less expensive and stress free. Being the second-in-command of the immediate past era of Adams Oshiomhole, that the people still yearn for, because it had performed creditably, it is in good order that he steps into the vacant shoes. As Oshiomhole’s deputy and a great contributor to the eight years of its acclaimed solid achievements, indicates that he already has the needed statecraft to continue with the good legacy of that era, which Mr. Obaseki failed to reenact. Apart from having the relevant vast experience, Dr. Odubu’s academic qualifications and worthiness in legislation, jurisprudence, political party administration, local community governance etc. stands him a shoulder higher. He had a first degree in Political Science, which gives him perfect understanding of democracy and politics. He fills the leadership vacuum of Edo APC, where the former leader, Adams Oshiomhole, had moved up to be the National Chairman. Odubu’s leadership is glaring and authentic, Mr. Obaseki caused unwarranted divisions and crisis in the Edo APC hierarchy. Odubu, is much more a rallying symbol and the hope of the party. He served as the only rallying point for APC members when Obaseki unleashed terror on them and led the movement to rescue the party. Such a man who has shown great capacity to challenge the incumbent governor and rally both human and financial resources towards ensuring the party is saved deserves to be rewarded with the ticket of the party on a consensus basis. And in the general election, the choice of Odubu would be APC’s best winning streak, since he is the most popular aspirant who have support base in the various opposition parties of PDP and others, as well as the civil society and individuals, who would give him bulk and widespread votes. I In the 2006 APC’s primaries, where Mr. Obaseki was declared winner, though with counter claims of it been rigged, Odubu came second; obviously meaning that he could have won the primaries. Apart from one of the present APC aspirants, who decamped from another party, of recent, most of the others did participated in that primaries. In the said primaries, the Odubu’s aspiration was seen as a main threat and the one to beat, as was seen from the numerous bodily attacks meted out to his supporters, by none than the same duo of Mr. Obaseki and Hon Philip Shaibu, the same way they now try to harass other aspirants out of the race. Dr. Odubu is gentle, easy going and would be a trusted governor, as he wouldn’t hunt or maltreat APC members and the public the way Mr. Obaseki had done. The truth is that if Odubu gets the ticket today 90% of people serving in Obaseki’s government today will resign to support him because they have worked together before and enjoys great public sympathy. Dr Odubu, indeed, is a more stable and approachable personality as he is a reconcilable personality, who readily forgives those who wronged him. For instance, this is reflective in his forgiveness to those who stopped him from being governor in 2006 and becoming NDDC boss, of recent. Finally, it is also worthy to note that Odubu seems to have the capacity to mobilise financial resources for the election. The man is blessed but does not make noise of his financial worth. As a former legislature, many of his colleagues and friends who are governors today or holding key position will surely rally round him. He was a deputy governor for 8 years and many of his colleagues are now governors and they will never abandon him. As the Director of Legistics, to President Buhari, he has very good contact and relation with many persons at the Presidency. I am reliably aware that some very wealthy business men have shown their readiness to support his election. Infact, one of them who happens to be my class mate told me on phone few days ago that he will personally drop N2Billion if Odubu is nominated as the flag bearer of APC. *Oshiomah Afe Momoh, a founding member of APC writes from Auchi*

"So then it is not of he that willeth, nor of him that runneth, it is the Lord that showeth mercy" - Romans 9:6 As the All Progressives Congress Edo State Chapter prepares for the primaries to select its flagbearer for this year's gubernatorial elections, with a possibility of an adjustment of the election timetable one man that perfectly fits into the Leadership equation that will bring about cohesion in the party and State, embark on massive provision of social amenities and infrastructures, lead Edo people with the fear of God and respect for the people of the state, embrace every progressive opinions (for or against the government), invest in providing security and welfare of the people and make Edo State proud like Professor Ambrose Alli, Dr S.O Ogbemudia (both of blessed memories) and recently Comrade Adams Oshiomhole did is DR PIUS EGBERANMWEN ODUBU, former Member House of Representatives and former Deputy Governor of Edo State. He was also the Director of Logistics in the President Buhari Campaign Council in the 2019 general elections. In looking for a fitting candidate that will replace Obaseki who had rolled two terms into one and is on his way out , the APC Leadership and membership must not make the mistake the Israelites made when they first demanded to have a king through Samuel. Indeed, they got a King Saul, and for those who are familiar with the reign of Saul over Israel , you need no telling. (Read 1 Samuel Chapters 8 and 9) What is it that ODUBU has not got? He began his political journey from the grassroot by running for Orhionmwon Council Chairmanship. He is a two time member of the House of Representatives and a former Deputy Governor of Edo State. Odubu's silent political machinery across Edo State is unbeatable. From Edo North through Edo Central and down to Edo South he enjoys considerable and genuine followership and support on account of his amiable personality, loyalty to the party and contributions to the development of the State. He is indeed, a personage that epitomizes the very essence of party loyalty, dedication, consistency and leadership. These are the attributes that any person seeking to change the narrative for APC and Edo State should possess. Politics being an examination which one doesn't write for himself requires the collaboration of stakeholders and an Odubu candidacy will galvanise all party members to achieve victory. Politics is not a ONE MAN business. Odubu is a Team player and he is patriotic. He will uphold the virtues of integrity for which he is widely acclaimed. Odubu is an Edo man through and through. In all his life endeavors, he has never shown any desperation as he believes that power belongs to God. He will give it to whosoever he delights in. He worked with Comrade Adams Oshiomhole blamelessly with the latter (Comrade Adams Oshiomhole) once referring to him as the best Deputy Governor in Nigeria. How can a best Deputy Governor not make a good Governor? He will. He ran the APC primaries with Godwin Obaseki in 2016 along with other amiable gentlemen Like Engr Chris Ogiemwonyi and Gen Charles Airhiavbere. Inspite of the outcome, he has been consistent in defending the party , contributing to its wellbeing, galvanizing party members and providing leadership when it matters most. How else does one serves a party? He has both Legislative and Executive background and experience. With him there will be no inauguration of a house of assembly where majority of the members will be shut out and the State will be ran without a legally constituted legislature. NEVER! Odubu's public service records is untainted, without blemish and absolutely clean. What else can a party ask for in its choice of a candidate? INDEED HE IS THE IDEAL CONSENSUS CANDIDATE the APC need to restore the hope of party members who have laboured for the party and Edo people who desire a government with a human face, a government that will be based on the rule of law and a government that will ensure the welfare of the people, promote peace and tranquility. ODUBU will unite the people of Edo at home and in diaspora to contribute in a very systematic and strategic way to the overall development of Our State. His passion for human capital development and nag for details will enable him pay attention to the things that matter the most for the progress of Edo State. He is humble, diligent, self effacing and does not seek self agrandizement. ODUBU IS THE MAN FOR THE JOB! By Isaac Asabor As a citizen of Edo State and Journalist, every passing day had seen me worriedly look out for media mention about governance in Edo state. This I want to obsessively do, at my spare time, watch TV in the newsroom, explore social media platforms, visit online newspapers as well as go through diverse traditional newspapers which are no doubt constant reminders of issues related to “governance,” in the state. To put it bluntly, not a few Edolites are unhappy with the state of governance in the state, and this is no doubt very understandable as distrust runs high amid fiscal pressures unprecedentedly mounting, so much so that service delivery in most cases does not reach a large demographic segment of the population in the state. Be that as it may, the barometer of public opinion in the state suggests that the incumbent governor has done his best, or better still reached his tether end, particularly when viewed from the fact that he has unarguably been bringing his past experiences as a technocrat and chairman of Edo State Economic and Strategic Team to bear on the ongoing leadership process. Simply put, there are still agitations from a wide spectrum of the population in the state that his overall performance so far still leaves much to be desired. Without any scintilla of hyperbole, the gap in governance that crept in few months after Comrade Adams Oshiomhole left office in 2016 is by each passing day widening thereby leaving the impression that the legacy he left in the government house has not been maximized and sustained as expected. This ostensive retrogressive trend in governance, no doubt, has raised the concern, and called for the input of other stakeholders as a way of taking the state to the next level. These are leaders that understand the potential impact of governance on the state’s success or failure. They are citizenly capable as leaders to meet the people’s expectations in the state when given the opportunity. One of such leaders, Dr. Pius Egberanmwen Odubu, no doubt, has the trump card that is needed to take the state to the next level when given the opportunity to fly the party flag, and consequently when voted for by the people of Edo state; irrespective of political, ethnic and religious affiliations. The reason for being a popular choice of the people cannot be pooh-poohed as he has the trump card that is needed to take the state to the next level. To put it straightforwardly, Odubu’s candidature at both the primary and gubernatorial election stages on his bid to Osadebay Avenue are beyond primordial sentiments. According to lexicographers, a trump card is “An advantage that makes a person more likely to succeed than other people, especially in something that other people do not know about.” Against the foregoing backdrop, it is germane to ask; “What is the trump card that Odubu possesses? To informed political observers; both in the state and in diaspora, his experience as a former deputy governor to a former governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, whose tenures recorded unprecedented successes in the state, unarguably stood him out, and that is his trump card. Odubu is unquestionably regarded in the state as a man with the needed experience to become the next governor having being part of the administration that brought the dividends of democracy to the state. Added to the foregoing is the fact that his political ambition has the support and blessings of all and sundry within the state, and beyond. Without sounding hyperbolical, his years of experience in government so far spanned over a decade, as a trained political scientist and lawyer, put him in a good stead to do the greatest good to the greatest number of people in the state. His training as a political scientist and a lawyer has uniquely equipped him to embrace modern leadership techniques and organisational skills. One of the areas where there is noticeable lapse in the state is in that of human capacity. To this, the former deputy governor has what it takes to take actions towards bridging the lacuna, and make it better than it is. Another aspect of governance in the state that is highly deplored by the people is that of abject neglect of the political class and failure to carry them along by the powers that be. To this, there is no way Odubu we fall into the shenanigan of neglecting the political class as he is known to have always exhibited pleasant attitude towards those that helped him in his political aspiration. To this end, one does not need a soothsayer to say that he has the predilection to accord those that will support him in his race to Osadebey Avenue the due respect they deserve; individually and collectively. He is not the kind of politician that will malign the very people that worked hard, travelled the length and breadth of Edo State for him to win an election, only for him to place his fingers on his eyes and tell them, “Oooin”. He does not belong to the brand of politicians that take delight in literarily drinking from the fountain of power and uncontrollably get drunk with power. He is not the kind of leader that will immediately develop lethargy towards the political class and close the political space after he has been sworn into office. As a party man to the core, Odubu’s antecedent shows that he would be highly committed to the survival of the party he has been affiliated to as a foundation member from ACD to AC to ACN, and now APC. Some of his critics may have been asking whether he will be able to attract infrastructural development to the state when he becomes the governor. To me, he will be more than able to attract infrastructural development to the state as he has done in in his various roles as a deputy governor and lawmaker. There is no denying the fact that the media and political history in pictorial formats are replete with his achievements in infrastructural development.

I received the news of the demise of the Chief of Staff, Mallam Abba Kyari with great shock. I therefore wish to express my sincere condolences to President and Commander In Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the immediate family of the deceased over this unfortunate incident. The reality is that Nigeria has equally become a victim of the Covid-19 pandemic and although Mr. President and the federal government have been unrelenting in addressing the measures for containing the spread of the virus in Nigeria, current statistics shows an upsurge in the number of detected cases. While mourning the death of Mr. President’s trusted and competent aide,Nigerians should be reminded of the need to adhere to all safety measures concerning this dreaded disease. Once again,on behalf of my family I wish to commiserate with Mr. President on the death of Chief Abba Kyari, his former Chief of Staff. My condolences also to members of the immediate family of the deceased .May God grant his soul his soul eternal repose.Amen Dr Pius E. Odubu Former Deputy Governor, Edo State Director, Logistics, Presidential Campaign Council 2019.

We are in unprecedented times where we are virtually reduced to the most basic primordial needs, in a bid to survive the Covid-19 pandemic, that is ravaging the world. However, it remains important that at this time of perpetual suspense, one where the next day is shrouded in uncertainty. We must not fail to hold unto hope as our only boarding ticket onto the train ride of survival from this current phase of life into the future. It is as this point, that I will again crave our indulgence and jolt us back to reality away from the current situation that soon after this era of social distancing, face masks, hand sanitizing and other rituals associated with measures taken to prevent the spread of COVID-19 fade away, we have a governorship election lying in wait for us. For the state currently, what would be desired would be nothing short of an appreciable healing process to the injuries sustained as a result of egregious, insensitive and uncharitable governance that has greeted the state in recent time, which must be fairly addressed if we are to move forward as a people and state. This is why Dr. Pius Odubu becomes the only viable option right now for us. Dr. Pius Odubu is no stranger to the people of Edo state, nor the political landscape. Neither is he immune to the needs of the people being the immediate past Deputy Governor of the state and a two time Federal lawmaker. One who is still committed to improving the welfare of citizens and making meaningful impact in the state with focus in the areas of infrastructure, social welfare, economy, security and inclusive leadership. It is on this premise that Dr. Pius Odubu – who is the front line aspirant of the APC, in the forthcoming Edo 2020 guber elections – seeks to become the next governor of Edo state. What this portends is clear; being very sagacious in leadership experience, coupled with an impressive academic background, complemented with a good heart for humanity. Dr. Pius Odubu has positioned himself and is set to bring all these qualities together into the leadership system of Edo state which is what can be described as the fundamental qualities to attain excellence in leadership. It is on record that Dr. Pius Odubu was deputy to a governor whose administration shone light upon the many dark areas in the state before the ascension to power, of the Oshiomhole/Odubu administration in 2008. If records are anything to go by, then it is safe to project that Dr. Pius Odubu will run a government of effective and essential continuity as well as restore normalcy where certain unhealthy practices are rife. Some of these practices appear to have turned the people of Edo state against each other. This would be achieved by running an all inclusive governance aimed at judiciously harnessing the vested potentials in Edo state for the betterment for the people. The aspirations of Dr. Pius Odubu are anchored on hope for the future and a better tomorrow for the state and its people. To achieve this, we all have our part to play in ensuring that we maximize the opportunity of the forthcoming elections by entrusting Edo into the safe and competent hands of Dr. Pius Odubu. ….EDO NEXT LEVEL IS HERE. #Odubu2020 AB Raham, is a member of Dr. Pius Odubu media team. |
The uninspiring political leadership and depleting democracy dividends, currently experienced by the people of Edo State, has worsened so much so that they now yearn for a deserving political leader, who could bring about the needed change, through the 2020 governorship election and to lift the state from the valleys it has sunk. It is appalling that in these heady days, when the Covid 19 pandemic has brought mankind to the kneels and groping, Edo State government can't muster for itself, with the usual public support to overcome the pestilence, like some other states of the federation, that had before now seen Edo as leading most other states, in such emergencies. Forward ever and backward never, Edo All Progressives Congress (APC) and the electorate deserve to swing the state back to its preeminent position as "the Nigeria's Heartbeat", by voting enmass Dr. Pius Egberanmwen Odubu in the APC primaries and the governorship election, proper. Among those aspiring for the position, Dr. Odubu is obviously most qualified to address a deluge of problems currently besetting the state and the unity, peace and progress of the people. For since about four years, the lacklustre and eclipsing tenure of Mr. Godwin Obaseki, the state governor, has set the state way way backward. Dr. Odubu, apart from also being the most experienced and versatile, is a man of peaceful means, who understands so well the chemistry of humans as he is known to often "conceal blood in the mouth to spit out saliva". As a former deputy to Comrade Adams Oshiomhole and the history making and public oriented government in the state, Dr Odubu was a valuable and loyal deputy, who aligned with his boss and his party, to bring government closer to the people. However, this is far from the current situation, where Governor Obaseki and his deputy's blend of imperfection has turned the state into a sorry wreck. Mr. Obaseki is brash and unforgiving hence he soon upturned the public confidence and stable polity, which Comrade Oshiomhole and Dr. Odubu laboured to build and handed over to him and Mr. Philip Shaibu. Now, normalcy is returning to the Edo ruling APC, which although occupies all the elective and appointive political offices in the state and local government areas had displayed sharp differences. APC faithful in Obaseki's disfavour were said to be the governor's butts of raw brigandage. And there was never a time in Edo and Nigerian history, when bombs were allegedly detonated in the dwellings of those APC members, opposed to Obaseki's returning bid as governor. And even if the governor denied the accusations of him goading the bombings, arsons, gun totting and harassments, he couldn't have convinced the discerning public with his flammable public statements, which ignited the crisis. But, a gentlemanly and naturally imbued character, Odubu, is a true party man, who is respected by APC party men and women and the mass of Edo people, who he diligently served for eight years as deputy governor. For Edo State that is homogenous, with Bini as the major indigenous language, but derivatives like Esan, Etsako, Owan and some others, a man with peaceful and polished disposition is all that is needed to unify the APC faithful and the residents who had separated by political differences. Dr. Odubu, with a calm and humane characteristics, if elected, could turn to be another Ambrose Alli, a former and the late civilian governor of the old Bendel State, who is still inarguably revered as one of the best governor the state has ever had. Dr. Pius Odubu Odubu Will Bring Peace and Progress to Edo State

Customers of commercial banks in some parts of Lagos had a hard time accessing the banking halls yesterday as banks effected the rule of not allowing more than 20 persons within a confined space. THISDAY visited some banking halls yesterday and found customers lined outside banking halls waiting for their turn to be allowed inside. Also, most of the banking halls visited had hand sanitisers at the entrance and within the banking halls and all of them checked the temperature of customers before allowing them into the banking halls. In addition, most of the bank staff, particularly the tellers were wearing surgical masks and rubber hand gloves. As part of the precautionary measures, Union Bank, for instance, told some of its staff that could do their jobs offsite, to work from home leaving only staff that would have to interface with customers in the office. On its part, GTBank said it has put in place all necessary safety measures to protect its customers. “This includes making all our branches safe for our customers and staying in close engagement with all our staff to make sure that we are on top of any risk of exposure to the outbreak. “As our customer, these measures do not affect your access to our banking services. Our banking halls are open and our people are ready to assist you with all your banking needs. We would also like to remind you that you can use more of our online banking channels, as they give you access to all our banking services anywhere, anytime,” the bank added in an e-mail to its customers.

by Andy Omosefe and Dennis Eribo Rt. Hon. Pius Odubu believes in an all inclusive governance, therefore is of the opinion that running an all inclusive government, as the hallmark of people's participation, will enrich our democracy. This position which he asserted in March 2016 remains his objective beliefs till date. As he once elaborated, that when a government is all inclusive, it's legitimacy and acceptance by all will engender performance and good Governance. Dr Odubu further opined that his government will be positioned to serve the people as the peoples needs will be uppermost in his Policy's programmes.... Ahead of Edo 2020; Dr Odubu presents a perspective of governance that will place premium on the wishes of the people over and above personal or parochial sentiments, self interest and inordinate ambition. Dr Odubu is ready to work for the actualization of a government that is intellectually and morally driven as he plans to change the narratives from the OLD ORDER to a government of all Edo citizens where all shall be equally compensated and communities involved in deciding what they need from his government. Sufficiency for a people, is not an easy feat to achieve giving the complexity in governance and the rising needs of the people. Nevertheless the atmosphere of sufficiency can be created when a government is able to keep up with a vast expectations of it's people. For such to be experienced, it simply means the helm of government and affairs must be driven by one who know his onions, to effective impact on the lives of citizens directly and indirectly. Dr. Pius Odubu, is no stranger to governance, who has overtime, constantly acquainted himself on the necessities to drive the needed course in governance aimed at generating sufficiency among the people which in turn possesses the criteria needed to develop the state. A viable tool to the creation of sufficiency in governance has remained the ability for government to create an enabling environment in the state, one that can be considered healthy and fit for businesses to thrive in, which also creates room for the presence of investors in the state. The incumbent government in Edo, had a very shallow concept on the matters of creating a state of sufficiency and enabling environment, which became very visible with officials of the government, chiefly the governor, who moved round a couple of countries, with specificity to China, investing alot of state resources to sign M.O.U pacts, where alot of them happened to have gone down the drain as their manifestations never saw the light of the day. Creating an enabling environment, evolves around properly engaging the teeming number of unemployed youths in profitable ventures characterized by transparency, provision of working security network, the investment in critical infrastructures such as roads, health care, rural-electrification projects, establishment of affordable housing units, pipe borne water, e.t.c Among the criterias capable of impacting the people, Dr. Pius Odubu, has niped a very vital one, which concerns the effective engagement of citizens, irrespective of their diverse capacities, societal bearing, gender and other human assessment yardsticks, in his resolve to run an all inclusive government, that will judiciously harness the diversity of Edo people, to build the state. The aspirations of Dr. Pius Odubu, is centred on the need to transform the lives of the people, in accordance with their wishes and expectations, to give Edo a facelift. Nevertheless Dr. Odubu, requires the support of every Edo person/citizen, home and in diaspora, who desires a prosperous state, to key into this aspirations by inputing their quota, to ensure that this project becomes a reality for the good of Edo state. Dr. Pius Odubu, is a front line aspirant in the Edo 2020 governorship elections, under the All Progressives Congress (A.P.C), also the immediate past Deputy Governor of Edo state and a two time member of the Federal House Of Representatives. A better Edo is possible, Together we can !! #Odubu2020 #RescueEdo2020 AB Raham is a member of Dr Pius Odubu media team.

Our dear people of Edo State I wish to solidarise with everyone as we embrace and confront an usual approach to life. The upsurge of the Coronavirus codenamed COVID-19 has brought in its wake anxiety, fear and uncertainty amongst people of the world. For us in Edo State, we have not been spared by the consequences of the disruption of our normal lives as government at all levels seeks greater anticipatory preventive measures to curtail the prevalence of the virus even though we have no case in our state yet. While commending the Federal government for the numerous proactive measures been taken to address the spread of the pandemic I urge all Edo people to take seriously the preventive measures that have been so elaborately disseminated in all media. We must remember to wash our hands regularly with soap, avoid body contacts with people in large gathering as much as possible , make use of hand Sanitizers regularly, avoid picking your noises and touch your faces with your hands , stay clear of anyone sneezing and coughing consistently, dispose immediately of tissues used to cover your sneeze and cough etc. As leaders we urge every Edo person to remain hopeful and confident that this raging pandemic is phase in the life of the world as scientists are working hard to determine preventive and therapeutic drugs for this strange disease. Let us have a renewed hope and confidence of greater days ahead as we march on to rescue our state. Together We Can Have A Greater Edo State. Dr Pius Odubu

Big Trouble As APC kicks against Godfatherism says Obaseki must face direct primaries. With the crowning of Adams Oshiomhole as the undisputed Chairman by the court of Appeal, Obaseki has made a u-turn with a plea for leniency. Obaseki's campaign team has resolved to be still and stay calm while Adams Oshiomhole becomes the Godfather and anoints Obaseki for a second term. Read the narrative below and see why Obaseki's gamble in APC might lead the Ambode way. There was this powerful King who had so much wealth and a large kingdom, he had four wives but only a child, a beautiful girl. The aged king who was getting worried about a successor decided to arrange for a competition amongst all the men in the Universe . So whoever wins would be betrothed to the daughter and be the next King. So the King said any man that could cross a special stream to the other shore would emerge the winner. Now this stream is notorious for having all the most dangerous animals and reptiles in it. Crocodile, Snakes, Sharks name it, nothing has ever survived the stream. The people wondered why the King should gather them for such a competition when he knows the task is impossible. While the people were gathered a tall handsome man who apparently was a stranger to the Kingdom was passing by and wondered why the large crowd gathering around the stream. That was how he walked up to the stream, without his knowledge of the mystery surrounding the stream. While this young man was looking into the stream some group of men pushed him into the stream and asked what was he scared of? Behold that was how this young man struggled and struggled till he swam successfully to the other side of the stream. The whole kingdom erupted in joy and the King offered the young man his daughter as a bride, the man refused. The King not relenting added fifty per cent of his Kingdom as well as the daughter, yet he still refused. The King not giving up said ok the man should ask for anything even to his four wives inclusive and the whole kingdom. The man still refused and said all he wants is for the King to fish out those men that pushed him into the stream. He requested they be given the same treatment he was given. They should be pushed into the stream as well. he forfeited the spoils of his victory for justice to be served. This narrative sums it up in Edo State Chapter of APC. Respondents spoken to says Obaseki should as well learn his lessons the way Adams Oshiomhole learnt his. They agree Oshiomhole has been humbled and now it is time for Obaseki to be humbled and present himself for direct primaries. Obaseki who they claim is the master of name dropping has dropped another one. That Buhari says Oshiomhole should go back to Edo State and deliver Obaseki. Deliver Obaseki as what they rhetorically asked. As a godfather? APC says no to godfather-ism, Obaseki should present himself for direct primaries. The APC members have agreed to forgive the repentant Obaseki but he should be subjected to swim through the same stream he pushed the young man into. It is correctional justice they claim. Direct primaries or no APC. How far Adams Oshiomhole goes in honouring the so-called infertile agreement remains to be seen. The fans of Obaseki four-plus four-movement hopes Oshiomhole bounces back as the Godfather to impose Obaseki on the other heavyweight contestants. Here is a recap of a few direct assaults on the personality of Oshiomhole by Obaseki. Obaseki dropped Oshiomhole's nominee as Commissioner. Dropped local council chairmen loyal to Oshiomhole, a move interpreted as godfatherism on the part of the Governor as well. Refused to inaugurate 14 members of the EDHA because he believes they are loyal to Oshiomhole. Revoked Oshiomhole's Cof O and threatened to demolish Oshiomhole's residence in GRA, Benin City. He says Oshiomhole stole the land. Petitioned all Oshiomhole's nominee in Federal Boards. Worked against the Federal appointment of Hon Odubu, Hon Samson Osagie, Hon Victor Ekhator and so many other prominent Benin Sons. Obaseki stopped all benefits accrued to the party, APC. Obaseki barricaded Oshiomhole's residence to prevent him from leaving his house. Sponsoring of hoodlums to embarrass Oshiomhole anything he comes to the State. Oshiomhole was made a laughing stock internationally, Nationally and Locally. He was reduced to tissue paper by false propaganda. The list is also endless. The APC members have resolved that the other aspirants are as qualified as Obaseki so he should reconcile to a direct primary or gets kicked out. As for Adams Oshiomhole and how he decides to declare openly his desire for his benefits on his victory,is yet to be seen. Would Adams Oshiomhole ask for his traducers to swim across the stream or would Adams Oshimohole bounce back as a God Father and anoint Obaseki? Osigwe Omo-Ikirodah |
By Gloria Adagbon EdoAPC What are the reconciliatory efforts by Mr Governor? What is the meaning of peace? We have seen how our indefatigable National Chairman, Adams Oshiomole sued for peace and apologised to APC and NWC for the APC infighting. HAS ANYONE SEEN GOV OBASEKI DO THE SAME FOR EDO APC? I have not seen any. If he has, then let’s hear or see it. What is this “there must peace? Has he called Edo APC leaders? Has he called the Edo State House of Assembly members-elect that are still yet to be inaugurated? What steps has he taken to bring EDHA together? Has his government ordered the alleged hoodlums from the APC Secretariat that has been under lock and key, that Edo State APC has now moved to President Buhari 2019 Campaign office as its Secretariat? Has he taken any steps to bring together the factions in Edo State APC together? What is the meaning of reconciliation or peace when he has NOT taken any GENUINE STEPS towards peace and reconciliation? Okay, I understand. There must be peace. There must be reconciliation just because of his media pronouncements! There must be peace and reconciliation just because the emperor has said so and nobody must henceforth speak or say anything? There must be peace and reconciliation, yet no action, no peace move towards aggrieved APC members? There must be peace and reconciliation, yet those that were politically witch hunted are still licking the wounds, those he targeted, those that were attacked, those that their houses or business suffered, has he reached out to them? Any apologies for his wicked actions against those APC members that said no to his second term? What has happened to the Chief Bisi Akande led Reconciliation Committee? What is really the meaning of peace and reconciliation? Is it only still about second term ambition being non-negotiable or “I am demanding it”? We are not children and we were not born yesterday. If we see efforts towards peace and reconciliation, we will recognise it and so far, we are yet to see any. God bless our people and country. God bless all men and women of good conscience who continues to speak and stand with the truth. |
His media urchins had gone to town to announce a Presidential Directive to National Chairman to give Obaseki the right of first refusal in the build up to APC primaries. I laughed profusely at the naivety of these kids and grimaced at the sheer wickedness of one of the relatives of the Governor who went on air to announce same. Where is the provision for right of first refusal in the APC Constitution? This is nothing but a clear case of living in denial of the obvious reality on ground in the politics of the APC primaries soon to be held. In a way it is blackmail as well a calculated gimmick to give the diminishing following of the Governor a false sense hope under an obvious condition of despair. Nothing can be farther from the truth. Edo State Governorship elections was not a subject of discussions in the Governors' meeting with the President or indeed at any of the fora leading to the well deserved triumph of the National Chairman over the forces that seek to oust him from office prematurely. Those announcing it were no where close to Abaji or Aso Rock or even the Court of Appeal Abuja. Governor Obaseki keeps pretending that the National Chairman is the one fighting him whereas he is the one fighting the National Chairman and numerous leaders across the State. His combination of blackmail and terror as an instrunent of gaining political control against party leaders and the National Chairman drove him into the frenzy of deploying huge state resources into the failed the Oshiomhole must go project which he coordinated with other retrogressive forces and funded from the Edo State coffers. Oh what a pity. Edo State is the loser for it! Talking about reconciliation, Obaseki, strangely through his media adviser Crusoe Osagie and Don Pedro are drumming it as if the Akande's Committee on reconciliation never existed before Obaseki deployed Edo State resources into the removal of Oshiomhole. Who is deceiving who? Obaseki should reconcile himself at home with party leaders and members whom he has been seeking to decimate and stop living in denial or blackmailing the National Chairman by reminding him that cases are still in Court against him. The National Chairman is capable of defending himself. ~ Hon Samson Osagie is a Legal Practitioner and Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress |
