Erling Haarland was born in England to Norwegian parents. His father Alf-Inge Håland played for Nottingham Forest, Leeds United and Manchester City as a defender.

Although Haarland was elegible to play for England, the youngster chose to play for Norway, and has represented them at various age groups including U15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20 and 21.

The 2019 FIFA U-20 World Cup, ended well for Haarland as he won the Golden Boot, and subsequently after, Haarland made his debut for the Norway senior team in September 2019.

In the 2019–20 UEFA Champions League, he became the first teenager to score in five consecutive UEFA Champions League matches.

Haarland broke another record in yesterday’s match against PSG as he has reached 10 Champions League goals four games faster than anyone else in the competition’s history.

Crime / Why Escaping El Chapo’s Prison Is Totally Impossible And Insane by InfoSources: 7:05am On Feb 18, 2020
The notorious, deadly drug kingpin Joaquin El Chapo Guzman is someone the US government cannot allow to escape its prison.

This drug kingpin who began from very humble beginnings in Mexico as the son of a farmer in Sinaloa ended up being one of the richest and most wanted drug kingpin in history and enemy number 1 of the US with regards to its fight against drugs. He is currently locked up now but getting him was a hell of an effort as he has previously escaped from maximum prisons in the past twice! Hence, he he highly guarded possibly like no other prisoner on the planet.

In 1993, headlines in the LA times read Mexico Arrests Reputed Top Drug Kingpin.

He was arrested in the South American country of Guatemala; the charges against him included murder, kidnapping and drug trafficking. The authorities accused him of being part of a really huge trafficking operation in a massive tunnel that ran from Tijuana to San Diego where drugs were transported. He was immediately extradited to Mexico where he got 20 years in a max security prison. In this prison, it is said that he lived in luxury and comfort having the guards run errands for him even as he ran his operations from the prison. However, fearing extradition to the USA for drug crimes, he began to plan his escape.

In January 2001, he made the first escape with help from the prison even as he hid himself in a laundry basket while wheeled through a series of doors and eventually made it through the main entrance where a truck was waiting to take him to his hideout. It is alleged that this escape pulled a lot of people along the lines including the prison wardens and even the prison director who were all on his payroll.

All these bribes summed up to almost 3 million dollars.

You might have thought he changed his name, repented and moved to an island somewhere to enjoy his wealth? Wrong! He kept on doing what he did and soon became the most wanted man in Mexico.

After an operation between Mexican and US authorities in 2014, he was captured again and you could be sure they swore he would never escape again. Wrong! This time, he was locked up in a very secured prison; his cell had no windows and he couldn't even contact anyone. All he had was a bed, shelf, toilet bowl, a shower and a basin! That was all he could be given. The guards were not even allowed to communicate with him and he was allowed just one hour time outside his cell each day.

"Indeed There Was No Way Of Escape"

Well, on the 11th of July 2015, he doubled his accolades in escaping his highly secured cell when he spotted a blind spot in his cell where the camera doesn't feature - the shower area. El Chapo's men had been digging a tunnel prior to this escape that had the shower as its endpoint!

The tunnel construction began and in months it ferried the most wanted drug kingpin to safety as he escaped the law the second time. This freedom however didn't last so long.

He was captured again at one of his hideouts and this time the Mexican authorities had no other choice but to hand him over to the US. El Chapo's men tried all they could to stop his extradition to the US by even assassinating a federal judge, but that didn't work. He was finally extradited on January 2017 to the United States to face the law.

In his sentencing, he received life imprisonment plus 30 years. For sometime, no one knew exactly where he was; even his lawyers couldn't point out the prison where he was being held but it was later revealed to the public to be The United States Penitentiary Administrative Maximum Facility in Florence; Colorado. In short ADX Florence.

This prison houses the worst of the worst criminals and it is a hell on earth on its own. In this prison, there are way more guards than its inmates.

Inmates are locked up 23 hours a day and even when they are allowed out from their cells, it may come at anytime of the day or night and no one can know exactly when an inmate is out; hence making an escape almost impossible. The 7 by 12 ft cell has a bed, a stool and a bed all made of hard concrete. The cells are sound proof so prisoners cant shout or even communicate which each other.

Another feature of this hell on earth prison is that the inmate never know exactly where they are at the prison and even when they exercise, (in a closed space) they cant see over the walls. Infact it takes 10 steps to walk from end to end!

The prison has motion detectors, cameras and thick steel doors that can only be opened with remote control. These cameras monitor everything and if a problem is sensed, the prison guards hit a panic button that locks down all the doors in the facility.

Even if a prisoner manages to escape the pressure pads, cameras and everything, a 12foot tall razor wire fence awaits them outside and this will me in he midst of heavily armed guards and towers surrounding the facility.

It is assumed that Guzman is locked in the most secure part of the prison known as Range 13.

A former warden described the prison as "life after death", "its far much worse than death" others remarked the place as being dangerously quiet as no two inmates move at the same time.

Another said the facility was a clean version of hell.

One inmate said, "The purpose is to tear one down mentally and physically by mental and physically deprivation.

Unlike his previous escape plot, Guzman cannot buy land around the prison because its in a secure and remote location. Guzman so far has been allowed visits from his lawyers and his two daughters. He cannot even touch anyone who visits him.

Guzman reportedly told his lawyers he couldn't sleep well because the lights were turned on all the time! And he constantly throws up with bouts of headaches.

The prisoners can at least breath an air of relief as Televisions are around but they only display religious and educational shows.

But what are Guzman's chances of escaping the "most secure prison on earth? Even if he bribed the guards, how would he get past the pressure pads, the CCTVs, the guards on the towers, the guards with dogs, the razor fence etc. And what if he hacked the system? How could he possibly pass the guards?

Prisoners have the rights to seek medical attention even though they are secured.

In conclusion, El Chapo can only escape if there's probably a global apocalypse where all the prison's systems and guards will be shut down or missing in action. Do you think so? Hit the comments.

Politics / The Disappearing Nigerian Oil And Why You Should Be Worried by InfoSources: 1:03pm On Feb 17, 2020
By Jayamma Abanobi
Editor;

Nigerian is Africa's largest producer of oil and oil is the country's largest source of revenue, but in this perceived success, the economy has been struggling and poverty is on the increase in the West African country. The irony of it all is that poverty is prevalent amongst the regions reputed to be oil producing states with majority of the population living in abject poverty though surrounded by great wealth. Hence the question; Why can't the Nigerian oil wealth do the needful in making the country better? Where does all the money go?

Generally, Nigeria is not doing so bad on the entertainment industry with the high regarded position as the largest producer of indigenous movies in Africa- Nollywood. The Nigerian elite are also on the class of their own with Africa's richest man Aliko Dangote from Nigeria.

Nigeria is blessed with a lot of natural resources that include minerals, gold, iron and crude oil. It has the second largest oil reserves in Africa. Nigeria's major agricultural export is cocoa and palm oil. In this, many Nigerians are struggling with about 90 million of Nigerians living below 2 dollars a day. That's a whooping 48% of the population. In comparison, Kenya's stands at 16% and in Ethiopia, its 24% and lets not forget that these countries do not have oil.

You might be thinking, Why can't Nigeria rely on this oil wealth and make the lives of her citizens better? The truth of the matter is that the Nigerian government does rely so heavily on oil that basic amenities such as schools, hospitals, general infrastructure, transportation are in a poor, pitiable and disastrous state. The money generated from oil account for about 75% of its revenue and a good chunk of it end up in paying the salaries of lawmakers who are known to live a highly flamboyant lifestyle, salaries of government workers who make up the civil service populace, some are used to pay off debts and some find their way into personal pockets.

In 2014, following the global oil price slash, Nigeria fell into deep recession without hesitation and is still struggling to come out of it.

Where do all these money go?

Nigerian crude oil is found in an abundant state in the Niger Delta region of the country which has the presence of indigenous oil companies and foreign oil companies. However, the exploration and extraction of oil is often carried out by these international companies and lets not forget that Nigeria does not have the tools and sophisticated equipments used to refine these oil, hence these oil is transported abroad and refined only to be brought back to Nigeria again.

The country's regulatory body on oil the NNPC, generates revenue from these international companies in forms including royalties, oil licences, profits etc. These monies generated are injected into the Nigerian treasury. However, these processes lack transparency and corruption becomes highly prevalent. Billion of oil money have gone missing over the years. The most famous of them all was in 2016 when it was reported that 60 billion US dollars in oil revenue have gone missing. This money was meant to be deposited from the NNPC to the national treasury, but nothing was reportedly sent. Another form of missing money come in the form of oil taxes. International companies pay taxes from profits made by them.

Indeed there are quite a number of illegal refineries located in deep forests of the Niger Delta region of the country. There are hundreds of illegal refineries in Nigeria where gangs such as the famous Niger Delta Avengers explode pipelines and retrieve oil. Aliko Dangote is building a refinery in Lagos to that effect.

In early 2019, 22 million barrels of oil were reportedly stolen and sold on the black market; transported to ships in the Atlantic ocean where it ends up in other countries in West Africa, Europe and Asia.

However, the Nigerian government under President Muhammadu Buhari is ready to implement the Petroleum Industry's bill which will help to see a massive cleanup effort in the oil sector. This administration has been passionate about diversifying the economy to accommodate other sources of revenue. This is commendable as the world moves towards sustainability and the creation of sustainable environment. Oil is fast fading globally as concerns for climate change heighten. Countries such as China, UK, Norway and the Netherlands working towards ending the use of petrol vehicles but adopting electric cars.

Nigeria does not yet have concrete plans for sustainability and that could be a problem in the future when oil prices are likely to drop as crude oil will be of little or no relevance. In sustainable environments, the aim and goal is to create green environment with little or no carbon emission into the atmosphere.

Countries that have oil such as Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates are already on the move in diversifying their economies to tourism and entertainment. Nigeria should diversify soon and quick to avoid slipping into a deep mess in the near future.

Foreign Affairs / How Rwanda Became The Singapore Of Africa- Cleanest Country In Africa by InfoSources: 7:34pm On Feb 14, 2020
By Jayamma Abanobi
Editor;

Generally, Africa is not viewed by most people as a good place to be in; this is because of the poverty, corruption and insecurity prevalent with the region with the continent getting into bad press most times.

However, the generalization of events in Africa is erroneous; with the continent having 54 countries not all countries do so badly as many belief. A country that is poised to stand out is Rwanda. Rwanda has been doing so well in global indexes; check for instance it’s murder rate, for every 100,000 Rwandan residents it is recorded and confirmed that that there are only 2.5 murders per year. Impressive right? That’s even lower than India’s 3.2 or the United States’ 5.4.

Also, Rwanda is ranked as the 48th least corrupt country in the world and that’s definitely not bad for a continent already ravaged by corruption just behind only Botswana. Adding to this already impressive and outstanding accolades, the country has an average life expectancy of 67 slightly below the world average.

Just 25 years ago, an average Rwandan had a life expectancy of just 28 years. This was due to the massive genocide that took place in the country way back in 1994 where there were ethnic clashes and which resulted in the untimely death of nearly 800,000 people. After the war, the country embraced peace and set out a plan to move further to where they are today.

Rwanda is ranked 15th in the fastest growing economy in the world as the government has set out a clearly defined mission- They want to become the Singapore of Africa. Why the comparison with Singapore? Singapore is a country in Asia that experienced rapid change from a third world country to a first world country. It’s former leader Lee Kuan Yew played a major role in making this possible. In global indexes, Singapore sits at the top of all the indicators. It is the 8th safest, 3rd richest, 3rd least corrupt and 3rd longest living country in the world. Just about 60 years ago, Singapore’s economy had a GDP size of of about 700 million dollars. Today, that number is about 320 billion dollars.

Very impressive! In the last ten years alone its GDP has doubled as it went from a third world country to a first world country in less than someone’s lifetime.
A major factor to Rwanda’s recent success can be traced to its president, Paul Kagame. He infamously declared the mission to turn the country to the Singapore of Africa, and in many ways that promise is on it’s path to being fulfilled and kept.

Paul Kagame, a former military officer was first elected in 2003, and then in 2010 and again in 2017 with about 98% vote! He is clearly well liked in the country though the United States government notes that their elections were marred with irregularities.

He is by all accounts a military genius and is reputed to have lifted the country from chaos into prosperity. As part of Paul Kagame’s mission, Rwanda is working to improve it’s geographic centrality, it’s ease of doing business and its political stability. He noted that these three factors helped Singapore to become what it is today. With the operation of the government owned RwandAir, which flies to Brussels, London and Dubai; the government is seeking to expand its travel routes to more countries in Europe and Asia and even North America.

Airlines are known to play a major role in improving the economy of any country. E,g Qatar Airways, Emirates and a host of others. With regards to political stability, the World Bank ranks political stability in terms of presence of violence and terrorism and Singapore sits at the 99th percentile far better than Rwanda which sits at the 48th percentile; but comparing to the Sub-Saharan average of 31 its doing alright.

Kigali, its capital is filled with random checkpoints and security is tight around buildings. Kigali currently sits as one of the cleanest city in Africa let alone the world, partially due to a ban on single-use plastics and plastic bags. Also, this cleanliness of Rwanda is due to a community cleaning exercise done by almost every able-bodied citizen in the country every last Saturday of each month.
The fear is this, many do not know if the country can continue on its recent success especially when Paul Kagame leaves; he himself made a comment, saying if he himself has not creamed a successor by 2017,
It means that I have not created capacity for a post-me Rwanda. I see this as a personal failure.
Its obviously past 2017, and Kagame is still in power with no visible signs of leaving.

The World Bank’s ease of doing business index depends on these following factors;

Starting a business
Dealing with construction permits
Getting Electricity
Registering property
Getting Credit
Protecting minority investors
Paying taxes
Trading across borders
Enforcing contracts
Resolving Insolvency
Singapore ranks at number 2 behind New Zealand, on the World Bank Ease of doing business index. Rwanda meanwhile, sits at the 29th; it is impressive when considering how the rest of the country in the continent ranked. Rwanda is by far the highest ranked among mainland African nations; and even ranks higher than Switxerland, Japan and the Netherlands. To achieve this, Rwanda made many economic and legislative reforms to foster a business friendly environment. The government with collaboration with private investors, built an enourmous 300 million dollar convention center along with a five star Radisson Blu Hotel to attract the convention market in addition to massive, flashy infrastructure projects, roads and airports.

However, the downside of Rwanda includes;
Poverty- With an average Rwandan earning just $748.29 per year; with many suggesting it shouldn’t be spending much on it’s airline, infrastructure and the capital, Kigali when so many in the country are so poor
Perceived authoritarian rule of Paul Kagame
There are various concerns these wrong indicators above could lead the country to violence again but we do hope it doesn’t happen.

Rwanda should also focus on its citizens living in the rural areas and help widen the middle class economic group of income earners. If Rwanda’s growth is continued and sustained, including its investments and politics, we can be sure to see Rwanda competing with Singapore in the nearest future!
