Hi INTERMAN,

I'm so sorry for the inconvenience this must have caused you. I will like to use this medium to inform you that I currently run a thread here called the MTN Customer care https://www.nairaland.com/1379574/mtn-customer-care-thread/ where issues like this are discussed and resolved. You can send your mobile number via private message to enable me run checks on your line

However, i would like to share with all, some useful information/tips on how to effectively manage data consumption on devices.

Some of the popular/common apps like witter, Facebook, Instagram, Whatsapp, Playstore/Appstore etc could have a high data consumption rate if not well managed.

DATA USAGE GUIDE
Step 1: How to reduce data usage on Facebook app.

· Go to Facebook app
Click the Facebook menu option
· Select App settings
· Select Autoplay
· Click ‘Never Autoplay Videos’
- The reason for selecting ‘Never Autoplay Videos’ is to stop autoplay of videos while reading through the News feeds.
- The longer you spend on the News feeds, the higher your data consumption as the Facebook app automatically downloads every image on the page.

Step 2: How to reduce data usage on Instagram.
· Go to Instagram app
· Select Profile
· Click on Menu Option
· Select Cellular Data Use
· Select Use Less Data
- The reason for selecting ‘Use Less Data’ is to reduce the quality of videos and pictures.
- The longer you spend on the Story feeds, the higher your data consumption as the Instagram app automatically downloads every image on the page.

Step 3: How to reduce data usage on Whatsapp.

· Go to Whatsapp
· Click on the Menu button
· Select Settings
· Click on Data Usage
· Under Media auto-download select When using mobile data
· Un-check the boxes the click ok
- The reason for un-checking the boxes is to reduce the amount of data used in downloading every file received·
Under Call Settings check the box for Low data usage
- The reason for un-checking the boxes is to reduce the amount of data used while making Whatsapp call/video.

Step 4: How to reduce data usage on Google Play.

· Go to Google Play
· Select the Menu button
· Click on Settings
· Under General, select Auto-update apps
· Select Do not auto-update apps or Auto-update apps over Wi-Fi only
- When you select Do not auto-update apps, no app will be updated automatically.
- When you select Auto-update over Wi-Fi only, apps will automatically update once connected via Wi-Fi. In the event where you share data via MiFi/Hotspot connectivity, Auto-update app over Wi-Fi only should be switched to Do not auto-update apps.

Thirdly, it is also important to note that doing nothing on your phone while your data is ON enables RUNNING apps on your device to connect automatically. For example, Whatsapp/Facebook/Twitter messages would drop even when you are not with your phone. Also, when you turn on your data connection, all apps that have pending internet transactions (e.g messages from social media sites) immediately drop. Thus, your data is deducted according to the volume of instant messages. This is where background data setting comes into play. If you go to your data usage settings and click on any of the apps showing the data used, you'd see data consumed listed as: Foreground and Background. Most often, background data is usually high. If you wish to turn off background data, see below.

How to turn off background data.

· From Menu go to Settings
· Select Data usage/Data Traffic management
· Click on the App
· Check the Restrict background data box
- This will prevent apps from running on the background when phone is not in use. However, once background data is switched off, notifications will not drop in real time and will be pended until the user accesses the app.

this is not my first time of browsing and this doesnt explain the cause of the zap.and my data usage was not up to 1.5gb when it finishes

Imagine in my last post we were busy talking of 1GB @ 1000 naira. Whereas on campus, i can download stuff of 100GB- 150GB and more @just 300 naira especially with IDM that is for fast download

Phones / OAU Unlimited Internet Browsing- How Does It Work? by INTERMAN: 8:09pm On Sep 10, 2017
I want to know how this work. I have seen many Internet providers charging data at 20Gb 25Gb at 20 thousands and sometimes more.Whereas here on OAU campus at just 300 naira we can download unlimitedly on our laptop of something even up to 200Gb at less than 1000 thousand naira. All we need to do is to buy time at some designated CYBER CAFE and connect the ethernet (Internet cable) to the laptop and start browsing and downloading without any embargo. There is time for 45 minutes, one hour, two hours, 3 and even 6 and 10 hours. All less than 1000 naira. You can stop browsing and continue at another time or day. This has really helped me get so many Educative thing I won't have got through ordinary data from other data providers. We also have the wireless WiFi network but I seldom use that. I want to know how it works. Who provides those services at such a cheap and easy rate.Imagine downloading something of 100GB or even more at just 500 naira which we can keep using for days until the designated 6hours 30 minutes is over. You can even download more than that. How is it done? I wish we have such providers outside the school but unfortunately they are very expensive. 100GB out there can cost over 50 thousands naira on its own.

why dont you proceed to show us a screenshot of your device data usage and check if it tallies with your data consumption. and i really dont know how to tell nigerians that data bundles are not time based even 40gb can finish in one day if you use it. You lots spend all day on instagram and snapchat and wonder why your data keeps exhausting, ewu namas grin grin grin
streaming video kor oceaning video ni. I check the data rate not up to 1.5gb. I am sure MTN gave me 200MB and lied to me that it is 1gb+500mb. The 500mb bonus on the other end is fake and doesnt exist. They sup my data and deliberately alloweed it to finishe early. This is not my first time of using MTN.. MTN has join the gangs of armed robbers and yahoo boys too.

Why ?
why would you say they should increase cut off. Dont you know that cut off is gotten from general performance. The exam questions are different for each year. People score low doesnt mean they are not good.

Na wa oo
What is education turning into
That time we dey pursue engineering admission for school the lowest you would see for any engineering course is 60 something.
We need a general overhaul of the educational sector ,why most you reduce cut off marks just because many people failed ?.
Students are no more serious .
Even the government is no more serious .
Imagine doing an engineering course without full practical , whats the essence !
We would get there ,but first we need to start from secondary schools, the syllabus is pathetic.
Teachers are still using 1999 lesson notes(this is not a joke)
The world is moving forward ,I am afraid we are getting left behind.
Naso one lecturer dey argue with me that time ,I just had to shut up because i no wan enter wahala (very few of them update themselves)

Nigeria's problem is a simple sturv:
Give us good schools and learning environment ,with updated curriculum.
Give us 24hrs(ok out of pity 18hrs) electricity.
Better Telecom services (Including cheaper internet)
Better and affordable health care and equipment.
Good policies to ease doing business

And watch Nigeria fix itself in 10 years
Are all these too much to ask
you are sick
