If we're serious the heads of AFN and NOC should be suspended by now but everything in our country is man know man
daveP:
You know name calling is not the way by the affected. You don't expect Favor to call out the name. She has called out the bodies involved. It is majorly fans that brought Nigeria in. The elephants that scattered the grass can't be the ones to clean the grass or restore it. System can't clean until upright and clean handed folks are in it and fear nobody powerful. Dora Akunyili kind of personalities need to be in majority in Sports Federations to achieve cleaning. Till then....

So is Nigeria a single person? You have to name the organization or the person that has wronged you any way to clean up the system
daveP:
Is it far fetched if they say so? Other countries use that term and it's not a big deal, especially in a corrupt environment as this. How will two federations that represent the country not bear the brunt of that generalization?

The issue that now remains is that our media has unanimously perfected this craft of hiding names so well that it is now the standard.

Police officer kill, they won't drop name
Soldier do this or that same MO
Thief caught in public agency, same
Boss somewhere responsible sabotages, all same MO.

Nigeria will continue to bear such burden of said individuals until the right things are done and justice is not perverted or coaxed. 1 cocky fellow sitting somewhere in a sport federation office with AC feeling too powerful and arrogant over the hardwork and sweat of an athlete that is so dedicated like Favour??

Still someone still has to be responsible for the system, the responsibility has to rest on someone shoulder , the system can't fix itself
lovewins:

You missed the point. This isn't a person problem but a systemic problem. It's easy to scapegoat someone to take the fall but the problem will still remain because it is system. Just 4 years ago something similar happened and it had nothing to do with registration, rather it was that the athletes were supposed to undergo certain tests that the AFN didn't communicate and fund. 14 athletes including Favour Ofili were affected. At the World championship of 2022,

Ezinne Abba who was born in the US but decided to represent Nigeria was called why she was about to board her flight that she can no longer participate. Why? The AFN didn't carry out a final test and they weren't willing to even though she could still do it prior to the start of the event. She has since gone back to represent the USA as she. Note that this happened after the testing incident of the 2021 Olympics.

The Dtigress were arbitrarily withdrawn after qualification from the World cup by the minister of Sports because he had beef with the NBBF president. Just a few weeks ago, these girls had to take an 8 hour bus drive just to play a friendly in Serbia cause the federation couldn't buy them plane tickets. Some u17 baseball players (both boys and girls) travelled by road to Ghana to participate in the African qualification event. Against all odds they qualified and returned again by road. Guess what? They didn't get to attend the championship in Egypt despite the stress they went through because the federation claims they couldn't fund it.

I could go on an on giving you several examples across several sporting federations. This doesn't even include the shenanigans we see in the football space with the NFF. My point is, we have a systemic problem which obviously includes lack of accountability. Until we fix it we are sadly going no where.

Don't worry something like this will happen again I'm a few months or years and we will come to this.

Honestly I hate it when people say things like Nigeria has failed me or Nigeria has happened.... that's sounds like a perfect cover for people commiting these crimes
Deltamani:

Exactly, the person who’s in charge of registering the Athletes that made the mistake should be called out and publicly disgraced… You can’t tell me that you were able to register the rest but Ofili’s name was the only one to escape you.

It's wasn't a bad game yesterday , Nobody will watch the match and say Brazil ran us over , our passing has improved a lot from the last tournament.... We still need that striker of 1 chance 1 goal because we are not a team that creates many chances especially at the highest level if Ihezuo convert that chance yesterday it would have disrupt the Brazilians

Who's our biggest threat upfront? She's the only with the lung to keep running at defenders for 90 minutes
lovewins:

Ajibade isn't our biggest threat upfront. The data doesn't back it up. Plus Randy has played her several times in midfield so I don't get what the fuss is about. Again I'll rather she plays as a forward but when you have an unbalanced 18 man roster you make the most of what you have.
Sports / Re: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by isan(m): 3:05pm On Jul 25
Alex graduates as a right back in Liverpool, he's played primary as a right back all his career good defensively or not and Alonso had a whole year to turn frimmpong into what he wants but you want waldrum to turn Ajibade to a RWB in 24 hours
lovewins:

No. Alex isn't a natural FB. He was converted into that role at Liverpool. It's why he brings next to nothing to the team defensively and that's why England also rarely uses him there because he doesn't fit the system. Frimpong is also not a defender in that sense, he's more of an attacking threat but slots into defence because of his pace.

And yes you can design a system where Ajibade plays that role.
Sports / Re: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by isan(m): 12:25pm On Jul 25
Jeremy frimmpong and Alex are natural attacking full backs Ajibade is naturally a forward player she will struggle defending a winger
lovewins:

Not sure what exactly you're arguing. You guys seem to not understand that the role a WB plays differs from system to system and Ajibade playing that role won't limit her attacking responsibilities in anyway. It will be more like her attacking from the wings like she normally does but drops back to help the defense. Jeremie Frimpong played this exact role for Leverkusen last season and scored 14 goals and 10 assists. Trent Alexander Arnold literally controls Liverpool's offense despite playing the role. If they can do this, why can't Ajibade?

Again, all of these deliberations is because we lack the required personnel to fit this role. All of our suggestions are just that, suggestions. We are just trying to make the best out of the situation.

You want to put our best attacker in Ajibade to play wingback
lovewins:

I agree with the formation but not the personnel. At no point should Nicole be played on the left. Randy will be very silly to try it again since the dew times he experimented it turned out to be a disaster. Nicole is better suited at the right side leave her there.

I will replace Nicole with Ajibade since she's great defensively and put Toni in the middle. The right wing can be Nicole or Alozie depending on Randy's preference.

Your choice of attack is also puzzling. Ihezuo and Macleans are the same people and they both are yet to prove themselves. They also will be playing together for the first time. That's a disaster waiting to happen. I'll take Ihezuo and Asisat or Esther.

I'm sure some Nigerian bloggers are still coming here to steal your work
Deltamani:

Nigeria’s defensive structure resembles that of a 4-2-3-1 mid-block, but Waldrum has experimented with both a 5-4-1 and a 4-1-4-1 when defending their lead late in the match.

Alozie’s attacking nature, in particular, leaves her out of position and weaker when defending the counter. Lapses in defensive concentration will be the killer for Nigeria especially from Alozie who isn’t a natural defender but a makeshift, among the 4 Defenders starting in the Backline, Alozie is arguably the easiest to get past in a 1-V-1 situation considering how tough and well built the others are with their No gree for anybody kind of defending..!

In possession, the overlapping runs of Alozie will be impactful in the final third, whilst Plumptre’s inverted positioning would have allowed Nigeria to have much more ball dominance in the middle of the park but her absence will be filled by Chidinma Okeke who’s more of an aggressive defender and can also bring in some pull out from the back in a quick counter.. It will be interesting to observe whether the Young and one of the quickest full back in the World Nicole Payne will get some game time in Paris as a back up for both Fullbacks..

•••• In Midfield

Nigeria’s midfield unit is incredibly versatile but will have a huge task on their hands when attempting to limit the possession of Spain, Japan and Brazil.

Halimatu Ayinde who would have been a key figure in midfield is out with a Knee Injury.. She is a useful anchor on the defensive side of the ball, can protect the defensive line without the ball and offer a critical passing outlet in the initial phases of the Nigerian build-up. Whilst the 4-2-3-1 would allow Payne to float just behind the Center Forward (Ihezuo, Oshoala, Macleans), the ability for the midfield trio to interchange and run off one another could pose a significant threat and confusion to opposition defences.

The Inexperience of Deborah Abiodun is something to look into even though she’s young, athletic and can cover a lot of ground the anticipation & passing attributes of Ayinde will highly be missed as she’s more of the calm one btw the Defensive trio in Midfield. I hope she doesn’t get erratic when pressure sets in. Again Nigeria lack options in their double pivot as there’s no back up option for the Defensive duo of Ucheibe & Abiodun.

Forwards

It is clear that Nigeria’s forwards will want to build on a somewhat underwhelming 12 months despite achieving their long-term goal of Olympic qualification.

Asisat Oshoala is an excellent striker to spearhead the Nigerian attack, with pace and physicality to stretch opposition defences and naturally create space for her teammates, but her inconsistent performance for the SuperFalcons have been put in question making her an Option from the bench or can start in a game depending on what Randy is going with.. We can expect Nigeria to remain consistent in their desire to attack the flanks, and for good reason. In line with their youthful approach, Rasheedat Ajibade can undoubtedly the live wire of the front three as she will serve as their play maker from the flank using her pace, skill and brilliant individual ability… Esther Okoronkwo can inject some life into the Nigerian attack and terrorise tired defences with her ability to take on defenders..

The options at CF is something we can really lay hand on right now between Asisat Oshoala, Chinwendu Ihezuo and Chinonyerem Macleans.

Randy seems to have found favour in Chiwendu Ihezuo in recent games because of her pressing abilities. We remain calm on who will lead the frontline with various options available..!

Lack of natural wingers in the team might be another problem for Nigeria considering the number of central forwards that have in the team and how well built they’re and also their ability to terrorize the box, feed from scratch and aerial abilities.
