Hi All,

I have been away from this thread for over a year. Well I just feel it is time to give back knowing how much help I got here last year. Getting info, making friends, getting accommodation in Canada and even buying a cheap ticket.

I am in Uwaterloo perchance if there is anyone that has been admitted to Wilfrid Laurier, University of Waterloo, Conestoga College, or CIC College or you know of anyone that may need help or information or coming to the Kitchener - Waterloo Region in Ontario, I will be too willing to help such person in settling in.

I am also aware the school, some campus groups, clubs and even the RCCG around campus will be helping with the pick up of new students from the airport and be taken directly to your destination or campus free of charge which will save you the hassles of settling in in a new country or getting out of Pearson Airport Toronto. I will be willing to give more help if required.

Whoever is interested can send me an inmail or just respond to this thread. I may not be able to respond immediately but I will endeavour to check in periodically daily to see if anyone requires my help.

you are right about the notary thing. I didn't notarize jack and I was given. Even my sponsor's letter was on a plain typed email. He only signed it with his address and phone numbers included. I believe your SOP goes a long way. Be specific and professional no begging, that one won't work with oyinbo. Just show proof and ultimately pray cause it is God that gives one favour.

Well as you prepare to come, just come boxed up. Note the devaluing Naira. Moreso Canada is not cheap the cheapest you can pay for room off campus which is usually cheaper is like 65k-70k a month. Also, if coming in January come prepared for the cold. God has been good to us this year in Southern Ontario because the weather has been nice compared to what they had last year. It snowed a little in the morning though, but is now very sunny, though still at - 3 this morning which is a miracle for this time of the year. So depending on which part of Canada you are going, be sure to know the weather situation it is a big thing here and also, you need a phone with GPS preferable all androids, bbm, iphone will be okay because as you are new you need to find your way. That has been helpful for me personally. It will also save you the stress of waiting endlessly for bus in the cold till you acclimatize.

*SOP (clearly detailing why I chose to study in Canada and at the University of Regina and my plans to return to Naija upon graduation.

This is all. Note that none of my documents were notarized. If someone agrees to sponsor you and puts it in writing with his contact details clearly stated I see no reason for all that. Sponsor meanwhile is my maternal uncle with different surname. Thanks everyone. If any questions, I'll do well to answer them. May part 7 be better and sweeter than part 6. God bless everyone.

If you are applying for a PhD, you would know the duration is 4-5years! And yes, with an MSc!

The fastest Phd cannot be less than 3.5/4 years it can be more than 5 sometimes depending on a lot of factors

Been following this thread for a while now, congrats to the guys that dere applications got tru.
I am planning to apply for masters come 2015 at UofT, UBC, uni of waterloo to study financial mathematics/quantitative finance. These schools are extremely competitive. Please i would like to know if any of you has any advice regarding dere admission process if it is 'easy' to get in.

I can advise. Was told by a friend to contact a member of the faculty. Which I did, I looked for a top faculty that suits my area of interest and gave my profile, my interest and the topics I will like to research. I also spoke about my experience and what I am doing presently as it relates to the course. I think he was impressed and responded he will like to have me as his student (packaging )

It turned out to be a smart move as the school recalculated my CGPA and slashed it badly meaning I didn't meet there cut off. I also had issue with my referee and they wanted proof from a course I once did. But in all the man was copied by the school and all correspondence went through him, inspite of all the challenges, which implies I am his candidate. They eventually gave me admission based on his recommendation and me providing further proofs. Also, I got a grant that covered my full tuition (teaching assistant despite the rebased GPA). But it took me almost 6 months for all investigations and admission to come through so, start early, get a top faculty member support, do your research well, pray and fire. Also try more than one school. Funny enough I was refused for the same course last year by a smaller university because I applied on my own.

Maybe you should send them a mail if more than a month quote your application no if online application and let them know when you are resuming. I did just that last week, though they did not respond to my mail, but I got a notice same day that I should bring my passport and the rest is history.

Egypt Air is not cheap. u may check Air France though u will have 2 stop overs if u won't mind seems I will be opting for that as I do not see the sense in spending almost 700k for flight. Was told the flights will soon start reducing from next week though but that will be too late

Hi guys. Checking out ticket and the prices are not smiling at all. Most airlines are saying 600k plus. Seems airlines stopping over in the US are cheaper though (400k). But I was told I will need a transit visa to pass through the US as I do not have a US Visa. Please any advise anyone or is there anyone that just booked and find more cheaper flights

1. 6 months bank statements (opening balance 4.6 million, closing balance 11.1 million, Savings account)

2. Sponsorship declaration

3. Sworn affidavit of support

4. Driving License

5. Trade membership certificate ( sponsor sells building materials)

6. Invoice/receipt of goods sold and purchased

7. TELEX COPY SHOWING EVIDENCE OF TUITION PAYMENT FOR ONE YEAR.

8. my moms birth certificate ( to show relationship with sponsor)

9.my own statement of account (opening balance 3.2 million, closing balance 2.6 million). Although the account balance as of when i submitted my application was 990K cuz i paid my tuition from my account.

10. Deed of conveyance showing a plot of land i purchased last year valued at 1.2 Million.

11. Survey plan of the land.

12. Employment letter showing I've been working since i finished secondary school in 2005.

13. Dad's Death certificate.

14. Letter Of Intent/ Sponsorship declaration.

my sponsor doesn't have a registered business, so docs like Certificate of Incorporation, CO2, CO7 are not available.

WORD OF ADVICE GUYS. ALWAYS HOPE, PRAY AND BELIEVE IN GOD. HE NEVER FAILS.

I applied on the 7th and had my bio on the 8th no word yet too. Just believing God. So seems the feedback is delayed now as four weeks has passed in my case. Someone on this thread seems to have same issues too
