Politics / Atiku Abuabkar: The Presidential Candidate Abandoned By His People by Israelmossaic: 10:53am On May 14, 2019
It is not farfetched from the observations of political spectators the way and manner bigwigs and gladiators in the political arena of this country, especially the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are docile if not dormant despite the fact that, their flag-bearer is in legal struggle for his lost presidential bid.

As expected, Governors, National Assembly members and party officials of the PDP are to be seen relentlessly, building-up forces with Atiku in his quest to muscle power from the incumbent President.

However, except Kola Ologbondiyan, the Party's spokesman, all other mouthpieces have deserted the struggle. Can anyone recall when last the likes of Uche Secondus, Ayodele Peter Fayose, Buba Galadima and Dino Melaye, to mention but a few spoke or released statements in support of Atiku's pursuit at the Election Petition Tribunal? To say the least, none of them in recent times have come out on either print or electronic media to show support for Atiku.

Also, insinuations continue to trend among average Nigerians that, bigwigs in the PDP are certain that the evidences presented by their party at the Tribunal are insignificant and cannot stand the weight of justice. Hence, the withdrawal by most of the PDP gladiators who had hitherto expressed open support for Atiku’s presidential quest.

Currently, the question agitating the minds of many Nigerians is whether Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has been abandoned by the PDP ? or he is a one man squad prosecuting his battle alone?

Politics / Another Pdp Propaganda Busted: Why Nnamdi Kanu Resurfaced by Israelmossaic: 4:38pm On Oct 19, 2018
About eleven months after Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) jumped bail by exploiting the widely commendable "Operation Python Dance" as alibi, he has suddenly reappeared, with his first point of call being the Wailing Wall in Jerusalem.

The eleven months of his absence have been full of drama, propaganda and unfounded accusations and counter accusations, with innocent Buhari being at the receiving end.

The former Minister of Aviation and Spokesman of Jonathan Presidential Campaign Council, Femi Fani-Kayode was the first to accuse President Buhari of holding Kanu hostage in a Naval warship, off the coast of Bayelsa. Others including Reno Omokri claimed that Kanu has been killed by the Buhari administration. While others claimed that Buhari simply sent the military to exterminate the Igbo race. It was Orji Uzor Kalu, former Govenor of Abia state who first told Nigerians that Kanu had escaped and was in Ghana.

Now that Kanu has resurfaced, will these barefaced liars apologize to Nigerians and Buhari? Will they condemn his decision to evade justice by jumping bail? Will they bury their heads in shame that they have repeatedly exploited the gullibility of Nigerians for political capital?

Any probing mind would know why Kanu is being released now that political activities are intensifying ahead of the 2019 elections. Shortly after the PDP Governors in the South-East failed to anoint Peter Obi as Atiku's running mate, some South East leaders who facilitated Kanu's escape, brought him out to become the rallying point for the Atiky/Obi ticket, a development that would pitch the governors against the youths. They seek to exploit Kanu's bias and baseless unfavorable disposition towards Buhari to their advantage.
Two days after Atiku purportedly travelled to Dubai, Kanu is now out. The same week that Reno Omokri is in Jerusalem, Kanu is out. So Atiku met Reno and Kanu in Dubai or Jerusalem before his return to Nigeria abi?

Our leaders have perfected the craft of exploiting Nigerians for their gains. My joy is that Nigerians are increasingly becoming wiser daily, rising above their mischief and shenanigans.

2019 will be decisive and Nigerians must choose between corruption and transparency. We must choose between efforts to build institutions and it's opposite. We must choose between those that seek to perpetually keep us in captivity and those seeking to liberate and build a future for us.

Politics / DSS: How Bichi Is Calming The Storm In Nigeria's Secret Police- NAIJ by Israelmossaic: 2:05pm On Oct 05, 2018
Editor's note: Adeniyi Ogundare, an analyst and commentator writes on recent activities of the State Security Services (SSS), appointment of important leadership of the secret police. Ogundare highlights efforts being made by the current SSS boss , Yusuf Magaji Bichi in calming the troubled waters within the agency.

The State Security Service, SSS, Nigeria’s Secret Police, is perhaps going through one of its most challenging period since its establishment. The agency whose activities are often shrouded in secrecy has in the last few months become a subject of front page news headlines. The most recent was on August 7, 2018, when Nigerians woke up to news of the invasion of the National Assembly by security agencies led by operatives of the SSS. That incident culminated in the sack of the then Director General of the SSS, Lawal Musa Daura.

Suffice it to say that Daura’s tenure was characterised by controversies starting with the raid and arrest of seven senior judges over alleged involvement in corruption, followed by the arrest and detention of one Jones Abiri, a journalist. The blockade of the national Assembly was in a way the proverbial last straw that broke the camel’s back. Consequently, Daura was relieved of his appointment and directed to hand over to the most senior serving officer of the agency pending the appointment of a substantive Director General.

Mr. Matthew Seyifa held forth as Acting DG until President Muhammadu Buhari appointed Yusuf Magaji Bichi as the Substantive Dg SSS on September 13th, 2018. Bichi came into the position with over 35 years of experience garnered as director in the various directorates of the secret police including Director at National Headquarters in the Directorate of Administration and Finance, Security Enforcement, Operations, Intelligence, Inspectorate and National Assembly Liaison. One area of concern for those familiar with the agency was the administrative somersault in the recent past which had taken its toll on the morale of officers and men of the Service.

However, since taking over the helm of affairs, Bichi has undertaken a review of the operations and welfare of personnel. As a result, the gloom and air of uncertainty that had pervaded the lives of officers and men of the agency in the last few years have obviously been lifted. His first major action was the posting of senior officers to fill up vacancies which existed at various levels of the organisation. This move elevated senior officers to positions of responsibility befitting their rank rather than manning desk below their level. Similarly, he has commenced the payment of allowances hitherto suspended under the previous administrations.

He has also put in place measures to reward hard working departments and units especially those critical to operations and intelligence gathering and analysis. Using his experience as a former director of Admin and Finance, the new DG is reviewing the welfare and working condition of staff to boost morale, enhance dedication and professionalism of officers and men of the organisation while happing on discipline. He is also opening up the management cadre by creating new offices to accommodate very senior officers thus ensuring unhindered career progression at that level.

One remarkable attribute of Bichi is that he operates an open door policy which makes him easily accessible. This allows him to get direct feedback on areas of discontent and monitor the impact of management policies on the morale of officers. Already, many officers say the impact of Bichi’s reform is being felt. They disclosed that some officers who were previously considering looking elsewhere for jobs have ditched the idea and are now optimistic of seeing out their working years in the agency. Officers at the National headquarters of the SSS at Asokoro popularly called “the Yellow House”, say it is a new era especially for the younger ones. They believe the new reforms and attention being given to their welfare has restored their dignity and pride which was badly bruised before Bichi’s appointment.

No doubt, the new DG is gradually calming the storm that had almost swallowed Nigeria's premier intelligence agency. However, there are fears that some very senior officers who had benefitted from the old order may try to frustrate his good intentions. There is no doubt that there may be some in the upper echelon of the agency whose greed may be affected by the transparent policies of the new administration.

There may also be those whose plots to occupy the prestigious office was thwarted by the appointment of Bichi. These persons through their action or inaction may attempt to sabotage his leadership by impeding operations, creating divisions among the ranks and files and stoking primordial sentiments.

To be fair to Saraki, he wanted power not to remain in the family. He wanted others to have a shot at it that was why he brought the incumbent Governor, and refused to support his sister.

He's doing it again. A very young man has emerged as a PDP candidate for the guber election.

Am not his fan for the presidential election though.

However, Fayose provided the enabling platform for the defeat. His refusal to pacify Adeyeye after the guber primaries was one his greatest undoing.

Politics / ASUU Strike: Why I Am Angry With Union – Jonathan by Israelmossaic: 6:53pm On Nov 30, 2013
President Goodluck Jonathan has explained the Federal Government’s order to lecturers of federal universities to end the ongoing strike or face sack.

He spoke Friday night at the Bayelsa State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party caucus meeting at the Government House, Yenagoa,.

According to him, the union has refused to call off the action despite a 13-hour meeting he held with its leaders.

Jonathan disclosed that the meeting, also attended by Vice President, Namadi Sambo; Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator Anyim Pius Anyim; and Ministers of Finance, Labour and Education was the longest in his political career.

“What ASUU is doing is no longer trade Union, he said. “I have intervened in other labour issues before now. Once I invite them, they respond and after the meeting, they take decision and call off the strike.

“At times, we don’t even give them a long notice unlike in the case of ASUU that were given four-day notice before the meeting.

“As you are meeting to resolve trade disputes, you expect the trade unions to get their officials ready.

“What was expected having met with the highest authority in the land for long hours was for ASUU to immediately issue a statement within 12 or latest 24 hours to state their position whether they were accepting government’s offer or not.

“And if they are not accepting they state the reason why. But despite the fact that I had the longest meeting with ASUU in my political history, we did not start that meeting until around 2pm and the meeting ended the next day in the early hours of the morning.

“As far as the government of Nigeria was concerned, all the critical people that should be in a meeting were there. So what else do they want? He quipped.

“After that, they didn’t meet until one week, despite the fact that you met with the highest authority.

On the death of the Union’s former leader, the president said: “It was unfortunate, one of them, Prof. Festus Iyayi, died. The way ASUU has conducted the matter shows they were extreme and when Iyayi died they now said the strike was now indefinite.

“Our children have been at home for over five months!”

Speaking, former Bayelsa State Governor, DSP Alamieyeseigha, urged the President to reconsider the December 4 deadline, saying Iyayi’s burial is fixed for that date.

Responding, President Jonathan said: “We didn’t give them ultimatum. It was the Committee of Vice Chancellors that took that decision.

“The supervising Minister of education only passed on the decision. What ASUU is doing is no longer trade dispute but subversive action.

“But like you rightly noted, so that we will not be perceived to be insensitive, we will consult on the deadline,” he assured.

He further thanked Bayelsans for their prayers and support, adding that “Any state the PDP is united, it will win elections. I thank you for the unity in the state.

“I’m happy that the division in other states PDP is not here. The unity is not automatic because as vice president I knew what I passed through.

“This is the first time this dichotomy among Abuja politicians and stakeholders in the state has been removed and I’m grateful and I am happy the governor is leading it. I’m glad that deadly virus has been killed.

“I’m against imposition, though I am a leader of the party, but I believe I need to negotiate and consult for any appointment.”
