This is to inform you that there is a new technique being used by robbers and other criminals to escape arrest by diverting the police's suspicion to an innocent third party. I was just alerted by a friend that robbers are now collecting used recharge cards, and once they abandon hijacked cars or where they dump the dead bodies of victims, they leave the already used cards at the scene or near the victims. When the police arrive, they use the scratch card's serial number to track on which phone number it was loaded; and they start tracking the owner of the phone number as a suspect for that crime. Already, two people who fell victim of the trick are in Kirikiri. To be on the safe side, once you load airtime, make sure you destroy the card before you dispose it to avoid access of these undesirable elements. Kindly circulate for the safety of your loved ones. Be cautious! PLS DO FORWARD TO YOUR LOVED ONES.

“Maxim Dadashev has died in the United States following injuries sustained during his fight with Subriel Matias,” the federation said in a statement.

The 28-year-old underwent emergency brain surgery in Washington after his super-lightweight bout with Puerto Rican Matias on Friday was stopped after the 11th round by his cornerman James “Buddy” McGirt.

Dadashev, known as “Mad Max”, was unable to walk to the dressing room and was immediately hospitalised.

Doctors operated to relieve pressure from swelling on his brain.

McGirt, who said after the fight he “couldn’t convince” his fighter to stop but opted to throw in the towel when he saw him “getting hit with more and cleaner shots as the fight went on,” told ESPN on Tuesday he was wracking his brain wondering if he could have done things differently.

“It just makes you realize what type of sport we’re in, man,” McGirt told ESPN — which streamed the fight on its ESPN+ platform.

“He did everything right in training, no problems, no nothing. My mind is like really running crazy, right now. Like what could I have done differently? But at the end of the day, everything was fine (in training).

“He seemed OK, he was ready, but it’s the sport that we’re in. It just takes one punch, man.”

Russian boxing chief Umar Kremlev told Russian media that Dadashev’s body would be repatriated home and that his family would receive financial aid.

Dadashev’s widow, Elizaveta Apushkina, also issued a statement, confirming the fighter’s death “with great sadness.

“He was a very kind person who fought until the very end. Our son will continue to be raised to be a great man like his father,” she said of the St. Petersburg-born fighter who trained in Oxnard, California.

Dadashev took an unbeaten 13-0 record into the 140-pound non-title fight.

Dadashev, whose manager Egis Klimas also handles Vasiliy Lomachenko and Sergey Kovalev, turned pro in April of 2016 and relocated to Southern California to pursue his ring ambitions, eventually signing with promoters Top Rank.

Top Rank chairman Bob Arum issued a statement recalling Dadashev as “a terrific young man.”

ESPN, which streamed the bout on ESPN+, also issued a statement.

“Our heartfelt thoughts are with Dadashev’s family, friends, trainers and the team at Top Rank,” the statement said.

Dadashev was rated in the top five by two world sanctioning organizations going into Friday’s fight in suburban Washington DC, an elimination bout for the right to become mandatory challenger for Josh Taylor’s IBF title.

Matias dominated, and after the 11th round McGirt could be heard telling Dadashev “I’m going to stop it, Max,” even as Dadashev shook his head.

McGirt, himself a former two-weight world champion, then told the referee: “That’s it.”

EFCC, Lagos Zonal office, has arrested a Nigerian Immigration Service officer, Adebimpe Kehinde, an Immigration Assistant, for his alleged involvement in passport racketeering.

Kehinde was arrested alongside 14 other suspected passport racketeers on Thursday, July 18, 2019, at the Immigration Service Passport office, Alagbon, Ikoyi, Lagos, following intelligence reports received by the Commission leading to series of surveillance about their alleged criminal activities.

The suspects are: Nnadika Timothy, Oyeyiga Samuel, Sunday Adekunle, Lola Kadoso, Adebayo Damilola, Adeola Oluwafikayomi Ajiboshin, Abubakri Adebayo.

Others are: Uka Precious Ifeanyi, Raph Emeka Ibuaku, Henry Onyebuchi, Christy Odey, Aba-Peter Ajuma Blessing,Ogunmefun Oluwanishola and Busayo Balogun.

The suspects allegedly conspired to extort money from unsuspecting members of the public applying for international passports.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Benin Zonal Office on Wednesday July 17, 2019 secured the conviction of two internet fraudsters before Justice J. K. Omotosho of the Federal High Court sitting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

The convicts are Obanore Edson Ehimen and Paul Odion Oghiator. they were arraigned on a One count charge respectively for offences bordering on obtaining by false pretence and impersonation. Specifically, Oghiator on Facebook impersonated the identity of James Minh, an American and subsequently sent documents to unsuspecting ladies with intent to defraud them.

The charge against Ogiator reads: "That you Paul Odion Oghiator (Alias James Minh) sometimes between 2018 and June 2019 in Warri, Delta State within the jurisdiction of this honourable court did fraudulently impersonate in your FaceBook account the identity of one James Minh, an American and sends documents to unsuspecting ladies through the internet with documents you claim emanated from the said James Minh with the internet to obtain money from the ladies and you thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 22(2)(b)(ii) of the Cybercrimes (prohibition, prevention etc) Act 2015 and punishable under Section 22(2)(b)(iv) of the same Act”.

When the charge was read, the defendants pleaded guilty.

In view of their plea, prosecution counsel, Fredrick Dibang told the court to convict and sentence the defendants in accordance with the plea bargain agreement between the prosecution and defense counsel.

Justice Omotosho consequently sentenced the defendants to 12 months imprisonment each. The court also ruled that Ehimen forfeits the sum of N620,000 (Six hundred and Twenty thousand naira) in his GT Bank account to the Federal government of Nigeria while Oghiator was fined the sum of Two hundred thousand naira.

President Muhammadu Buhari has enjoined all Nigerians to ignore the recent call by the Northern Elders Forum (NEF) to Fulani herders, asking them to leave the southern part of Nigeria.
“All citizens of Nigeria are free to move and live within any part of the country they please, whether or not they are originally from there.
“In line with our country’s constitution, the government of Nigeria and the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari will protect citizens of Nigeria wherever they find themselves.
“No one has the right to ask anyone or group to depart from any part of the country, whether north, south, east or west,” the President said.
In a statement on behalf of the President, the Senior Special Assistant, Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu questioned the intentions of the NEF and the other so-called leaders in delving into issues with unsolicited, ill-intentioned advice.
“They have no one’s authority to make such pronouncements.
“The polarising role of the Northern Elders Forum and all those other groups dabbling into issues of security to score cheap political points has for long been a sore point in Nigeria’s body polity.
“They should not be allowed to mislead anyone, least of all the Fulani herders.
“The Buhari administration is fully devoted to finding a lasting solution to the herder-farmer clashes in different parts of Nigeria- one that would be acceptable to all the parties involved.”
The President, therefore, calls on all Nigerians to help keep the peace in the country.

Speaking in an interview with newsmen in Abuja, Yerima said Governor Bello Matawalle was his commissioner for eight years and knows the platform that brought him to limelight and made him known, The Nation reports.


He, however, reportedly dismissed speculations that he had an agreement with the governor to return to the APC after becoming the governor.

According to him, neither him or the national leadership of the APC had any such agreement with the governor.

He said: “First, there was no agreement between us. What I said earlier was that he was my commissioner for eight years. There was never a time when either me or the national leadership of the party had any understanding with him to go and win and then come to APC.

“As a politician, I said the current governor knows the structure that brought him to limelight, becoming a commissioner and a member of the House of Representatives, paving the way for people to know him properly and he also know that it is the Supreme Court and not the electorate that gave him that position by the grace of God. So, he will not joke.

“If he wants a second term in office, he knows exactly what to do. As a politician, if he wants to find it easy, he knows what to do. That is all I am saying.

Meanwhile, News previously reported that the Zamfara governorship election tribunal on Friday, July 12, dismissed a petition filed by Alhaji Zayyanu Salisu of the Action Peoples Party (APP), challenging the election of Governor Matawalle of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Justice Fatima Zeberu, dismissed the suit, following a prayer by the petitioner’s counsels, Obed Agu and Professor Agbo Madaki.

Zeberu dismissed the petition after counsel for the INEC and PDP, raised no objections.

Meanwhile, previously reported that the chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria, Nasarawa state chapter, Alhaji Mahammad Huseni, said governors refusing to approve land for the establishment of Ruga settlements proposed by the federal government were only encouraging crises. Huseni stated this during an interview with journalists in Lafia, the capital of Nasarawa state.

Gunmen attacked our witnesses going to Presidential Election Petition Tribunal —PDP

The proceedings of the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal in Abuja were cut short on Friday after the Peoples Democratic Party and its presidential candidate in the February 23, 2019 poll, Atiku Abubakar, said their other witnesses scheduled to testify had been attacked.
Atiku and PDP, who are, by their petition, challenging the victory of President Muhammadu Buhari and the All Progressives Congress at the poll, spoke through their lawyers who informed the tribunal that the witnesses were waylaid by “gunmen” on their way to Abuja from Zamfara State.
The petitioners had called eight witnesses on Friday, making 36 witnesses presented so far by the petitioners, and the tribunal was to go on its routine one-hour break at about 1pm, when one of the petitioners’ senior lawyers, Chris Uche (SAN), broke the news.
He informed the five-man tribunal led by Justice Mohammed Garba that the witnesses said to have been attacked were those they prepared for the second half of Friday’s proceedings.
He said, “I am not sure if the next set of witnesses would be available.
“We got information that they were waylaid by armed men while on their way from Zamfara State to Abuja.”
The lead counsel for the petitioners, Dr. Livy Uzoukwu (SAN), who walked into the courtroom while Uche was addressing the bench, also corroborated the claim.
He said, “I was the one that was called on the phone. I kept having the repeated calls and had to go out to answer.
“I was told that while the witnesses were on their way from Zamfara State, they were attacked by armed men.
“Some of them jumped into the bush and some of them were gravely injured.
“Up till now, they are still looking for some of them in the bush.”
He, therefore, noted that there would be no need for the sitting to resume at the end of the one-hour break.
The number of persons involved in the incident and the exact location of the attack were not given by the lawyers.
He requested that the matter be adjourned till Monday.
The lawyers representing the respondents to the petition — the Independent National Electoral Commission, with its legal team led by Yunus Usman (SAN); President Muhammadu Buhari, whose legal team was led by Yusuf Ali (SAN); and the APC, whose team was led by Latef Fagbemi (SAN), did not oppose the request for adjournment.
Buhari’s lawyer, Ali, specifically expressed sympathy with the petitioners’ side.
Zamfara is one of the 11 states where the petitioners are ‎challenging the outcome of the February 23 poll.
