The Nigeria Police Force have partnered with a group, Primly Premium Solutions to develop an application where cases of missing persons can be reported.

Speaking during the launch on Tuesday in Abuja, the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Philip Maku said the initiative would help give the needed attention to the issue of missing cases in the country.

Maku added that the application would help report cases of missing persons with ease within the parameters of the law.

He said, “One aspect of human security which is rarely discussed in this part of the world is that of missing persons.

“While we understand the situation surrounding people who are missing as a result of violent conflicts in parts of Nigeria, it is worthy of note that people also go missing as a result of other factors.

“Some of these persons go missing because of domestic violence, kidnapping and a range of other factors.

“Sadly, there are few opportunities for people to report cases, raise public awareness to help in finding missing persons and report unidentified persons lurking around our homes, offices and environment.

“Hence, we birthed the idea of the missing persons platform; this was researched, developed and today, launched by Primly Premium Solutions in partnership with the Nigeria Police Force. This innovative IT-based solution will help people report missing persons within the confines of Nigerian laws.“

The representative of the company, Bestman Christine, said the need to get a database for missing persons in the country necessitated the move to partner with the police to come up with the initiative.

She said, “There is currently no national database for missing persons in Nigeria. This has proven to be a confounding factor in the efforts to raise awareness as well as keep track of progress made over time. This concern and the dire consequences it appears to have on the safety of the Nigerian population is what inspired the development of the Missing Persons Platform.“

She explained that the Missing Person’s Platform is a multilevel and multidisciplinary project that revolves around an online database for reporting and cataloging missing people and verifying unidentified persons.

The Car Chassis Number is also known as the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN Number). It is the unique identifier that provides details of the Car from the Manufacturer.

For most vehicles, it is found on the Dashboard of the car. The Chassis Number can also be found in other places: written on the Car’s Registration Certificate, or on the driver’s side of the car.

Why is it important?

It reveals vital information about the car. All cars have a Chassis number and it is unique, meaning no 2 cars can have the same Chassis Number.

This Unique identifier can be used in controversial circumstances to identify the real owner of a car. It is also illegal to change a car’ss chassis number or to try to erase it from the car dashboard because of its importance.

What is your Vehicle Inspection Number (VIN)
Here is a breakdown of the numbers that make up your VIN number:

- The first 3 digits are known as the World Manufacturer Identifier.
- The next 5 digits deal with the vehicle description.
- The next number, digit 9 is unique as a check digit for the chassis number.
- While digit 11 is the plant code of the car manufacturer.
- 10 – 17 make up the vehicle identification section.

How the Car Chassis Number can Help Secure Your Car

It's just a matter of being proactive. Most Importantly always know your [b]IMEI [/b]Number. This is useful not only in recovering the device but also in flagging your item as stolen.

It's the whole idea behind @itemregistry.com.ng. A platform for Nigerians to list their phones, cars, or laptops as stolen using the IMEI, Chassis, or Serial Number. This way it would be very difficult for the thief to resell the stolen item.

Let the public know that the phone is stolen, so it's difficult for the thief to sell.

Let's check this platform before buying any second-hand item.

People steal phones to resell them, we are hoping that if all Nigerians can list stolen phones on this site, it would be much more difficult for thieves to resell stolen items.

Recently my Samsung phone go stolen which is few month's old, and the second phone i got since my phone got stolen last year .
It was really painful as all attempt to use "find my device" has proved abortive , not even the Samsung version .. Plss does anyone here know an effective means which i can recover my stolen phone, I would really need all suggestions now thank you in advance for your help.

For this, though you need the IMEI number, any chance you have it?

You can also use the website to report it stolen to the police. This way anyone that searches for that IMEI number on the site will see it has been listed as stolen.

This is the major reason why we started @itemregistry. To make it difficult for thieves to sell stolen items.

In the case of criminal cases, or any court cases that happened to involve the Recycled SIM, (Since the Network-Providers had supposedly wiped out the information of the previous owner of the SIM from their own database, and they didn't keep any backup information about the previous owner), it then means that the new owner is in for a troublem he knows absolutely nothing about.

What can the NCC and the TELCOS do about that??

It's a terrible situation really.
The Telecoms in my opinion should still keep a record of past owners - Like an Ownership History Table for tracking purposes. Just like we have an audit trail in accounting packages.

The same issue applies to phones, where unsuspecting buyers purchase stolen phones and get implicated.
It would be nice if there's a platform for Simcard ownership transfer, the way we have for phones with www.itemregistry.com.ng.

Where people can register their items and perform a digital transfer of ownership when they sell or give out the items.
Please Telecoms look into this?
