Bug bounty programs involve organizations sending out recognition and financial rewards, that are offered to those who can identify and report bugs in their software. Bug bounty programs help curb cyberattacks since bugs/vulnerabilities are identified and reported earlier with less risk of being exploited in the wild. For the third time in a row, the United States Air Force has invited members of the public to join its bug bounty program. The Defense Digital Service began the HtAF program back in 2016. At that time, it was the first bug bounty program launched by the US government. The program saw incredible success that year, with nearly 1400 registered hackers and about 200 submitted reports within the first six hours after launching. That year, $75,000 in bounties was issued. The year 2017 saw the launch of the HtAF Force 2.0 bug bounty program. A big payout of $10,650 was made to a pair of security experts for finding a flaw in the AF’s website which permitted unauthorized access into the Department of Defense’s internal networks. In collaboration with HackerOne, the Air Force has launched the “Hack the Air Force 3.0” bug bounty program. Participants of 191 countries can take part. The program is very inclusive, but for a few US-sanctioned countries like: China, Russia, Iran, and the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea. The name “Hack the Air Force” originates from the Department of Defense’s “Hack the Pentagon,” and allows researchers to find any vulnerabilities and bugs in Air Force websites. This will aid in the strengthening of the Air Force’s cyber posture. The program began on October 19, and will run till November 22. This year, the main focus is Department of Defense applications which had been earlier moved to Air Force-owned cloud environment. “Hack the AF 3.0 demonstrates the Air Forces willingness to fix vulnerabilities that present critical risks to the network,” these are the words of Wanda Jones-Heath, the Air Force’s chief information security officer. Just like in other competitive bug bounty programs, rewards are offered according the severity of the vulnerability. A vulnerability tagged as severe will get no less than $5000. https://molesbite..com/2018/11/hack-us-air-force-and-get-paid-v30-bug.html?m=1 |

HSBC became a target in October. The bank confirms it suffered a data breach whereby account details of some of their online customers was exposed. HSBC believes the perpetrators carried out the attacks in October 4, 2018 and October 14, 2018. Fortunately only a small amount of customers were affected, reportedly less than 1%. For those affected, they had the following information stolen: full name, mailing address, date of birth, phone number, email address, account numbers, account types, account balances, transaction history, payee account information, and statement history where available. As a safety measure, affected accounts were suspended online to guard against further unauthorized entry. Impacted user received calls/emails where they were prompted to change their banking details before accessing their accounts. https://molesbite..com/2018/11/hsbs-bank-suffers-data-breach.html?m=1 |
Lol, no be CIA get Google na |
Earlier we posted about the CIA hack on their communication network. Dozens of American spies were killed in Iran and China after a flawed communications service that allowed foreign foes to see what the agents were up to using Google, official sources have claimed. Between 2009 and 2013 the US Central Intelligence Agency suffered a “catastrophic” secret communications failure in a website used by officers and their field agents around the world to speak to each other, according to a report in Yahoo News, which heard from 11 former intelligence and government officials about the previously unreported disaster. Iran apparently infiltrated the communications network of CIA agents who allowed their secret websites, used to exchange messages with informants, to be crawled by Google. The communications leak was believed to have stemmed from a simple Google search. Suspecting the US had agents and sources within its nuclear program, Iran began to hunt for the mole. After a double agent showed Iran's government one of the sites, they were then able to use Google to identify other sites the intel agency was using, and began to intercept their communications. Essentially, each of the websites had common elements between them that were found using Google searches. Identify one common element; identify all the sites using that material to link them up. "Because Google is continuously scraping the internet for information about all the world’s websites, it can function as a tremendous investigative tool — even for counter-espionage purposes," the report claims. "And Google’s search functions allow users to employ advanced operators — like 'AND', 'OR', and other, much more sophisticated ones — that weed out and isolate websites and online data with extreme specificity." As a result Iran announced the intelligence coup and arrested many operatives. Some were executed, although other managed to escape. A defense contractor for the CIA named John Reidy claims he warned the agency that it was using insecure communications systems in 2008, and again in 2010 when he started to suspect the channels had been cracked. A year later he was fired by the agency, a move he claims was retaliation for not shutting up. This is one of the most catastrophic intelligence failures since Sept. 11,” said Irvin McCullough, a national security analyst with the Government Accountability Project. “And the CIA punished the person who brought the problem to light. The CIA did not respond to a request for a comment https://molesbite..com/2018/11/dozens-of-us-spies-murdered-after-china.html?m=1 |
