Last month, we heard of multiple iOS 12 lock screen bypass methods discovered by Jose Rodriguez. Using these techniques, an attacker could easily bypass the iPhone passcode and access the photos, contacts, and other data stored in the device. After the bypass methods surfaced online, Apple began working to fix the glitches along with other vulnerabilities and rolled out iOS 12.1. While the users should expect a seamless user experience with the updated version, Jose Rodriguez pointed out another problem. As demonstrated, the Group FaceTime feature, upon exploit, can lead to iOS 12.1 lock screen bypass, allowing the attacker to access device contacts . iOS 12.1 Lock Screen Bypass Via Group FaceTime Exploit. Reportedly, Jose Rodriguez found a method that triggers iOS 12.1 lock screen bypass by exploiting the group Facetime feature. The trick does not necessarily require using Siri, unlike the previous passcode bypass methods for iOS 12. According to Rodriguez, invoking the newly introduced Group FaceTime feature in the iOS 12.1 could allow an attacker to access user contacts. To exploit this bug, the attacker must have physical access to the device. All it takes for an attacker is to call the target iPhone from any other iPhone, and invoking Group FaceTime after the call connects. Group FaceTime allows video chats with as many as 32 contacts. It means the feature involves access to the contacts stored on the device. That’s where the glitch resides. An attacker can simply tap “Add Person” from the menu, and then click on the “+” icon in the next screen. This is it! The entire contacts list now becomes exposed to the attacker. From here, the attacker can easily access further details for each contact by simply tapping individual contacts. https://molesbite..com/2018/11/group-facetime-feature-on-ios-121-can.html?m=1 |

UBSCRIBE AD's Will Start Appearing on WhatsApp Status on November 03, 2018 WhatsApp has broadcast that it's showing ads in its Status feature. A senior executive of the Facebook-owned messaging service told New Delhi media on Wednesday that ads are coming, according to India's Economic Times. That is going to be primary monetization mode for the company as well as an opportunity for businesses to reach people on WhatsApp," Chris Daniels, WhatsApp vice president, said to reporters. Status lets you post photos, videos, and GIFs that disappear after 24 hours. However, this will commence in the year 2019. Charlie Daniels hasn’t given a specific date on when this feature would commence but WhatsApp highlighted in previous reports that they'll come in 2019. This is not the first time we've heard about ads on WhatsApp. Facebook is eager for the messaging service, which it acquired for $19 billion in 2014, to start making money. WhatsApp said in August that businesses will be able to do things like provide real-time customer service and send information like boarding passes or shipping confirmations. Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s goal to monetize WhatsApp has forced the social media messaging service’s co-founders to leave the company reports Economic Times. On of the app’s co-founders, Brian Acton told Forbes that the move would undermine elements of Whatsapp’s encryption technology and that Zuckerberg was in a rush to make money from the app after purchasing it for $19 billion four years ago. In conclusion, in early-2019, WhatsApp will start showing ads (possibly targeted ads) in the application’s ‘status’ section. https://molesbite..com/2018/11/ads-will-start-appearing-on-whatsapp.html?m=1

Last month, Facebook suffered a massive hack. The attack allegedly affected millions of accounts. A month has passed since the occurrence, however Facebook has still not revealed much detail. This includes the geographical impact and the extent of data pilfered on the account. Recently, the BBC discovered an advertisement offering private messages from the hacked Facebook accounts for sale. The sellers allegedly had data from millions of accounts. It is unclear whether they got this data from the recent hack, the Cambridge Analytica incident, or through other means. As reported, the BBC Russian Service confirmed they found sellers advertising private messages and personal information of Facebook users. The sellers, as they claimed, possessed data from millions of hacked Facebook accounts. The BBC Russian Service team found the breach in September, after which they contacted the sellers disguising themselves as potential buyers for two million accounts’ information. The sellers offered to sell the accounts at a rate of 10 cents per account. As stated in their report, The breach first came to light in September, when a post from a user nicknamed FBSaler appeared on an English-language internet forum. “We sell personal information of Facebook users. Our database includes 120 million accounts,” the user wrote. The BBC team also involved Digital Shadows – a cybersecurity firm – to verify the sample data. They could confirm that the sample included details of 81000 Facebook accounts. These profiles even included private messages that BBC could view. One example included photographs of a recent holiday, another was a chat about a recent Depeche Mode concert, and a third included complaints about a son-in-law. One example included photographs of a recent holiday, another was a chat about a recent Depeche Mode concert, and a third included complaints about a son-in-law. To further confirm the genuineness of profiles, the BBC Russian Service team contacted five of the alleged victim Russian Facebook users. They acknowledged the ownership of the posts and messages. BBC has found one of the websites advertising this data seemingly linking to St. Petersburg, Russia, with a flagged IP. Its IP address has also been flagged by the Cybercrime Tracker service. It says the address had been used to spread the LokiBot Trojan, which allows attackers to gain access to user passwords. https://molesbite..com/2018/11/private-messages-from-hacked-facebook.html?m=1 |
