The sentencing of Nnamdi Kanu to life imprisonment is not even the main issue, locking him up in Sokoto Prison is the real kicker. Personally, as a Northerner, I won’t even attempt to travel to Sokoto by road from Abuja. I can’t dare take that kind of risk. When you challenge the government or politicians in power, they use every available lawful, and sometimes not-so-lawful- means to deal with you. If you are an IPOB/ESN member and you want to visit your leader, Nnamdi Kanu, in prison, you’ll have to pass through some of the deadliest banditry zones in Nigeria, unless you can afford a flight ticket to Sokoto. Apart from the harsh and dusty weather in Sokoto, In that prison Nnamdi Kanu will have to share space with the very people he detested the most. And he cannot even dream of misbehaving there like he did with His Lordship Omotosho. He knows exactly what it means to be in that environment, and he won’t try it. Taking MNK to Sokoto is the biggest blow the Nigerian government could give him. If you think you are notorious, our Nigerian politicians can be Rascal. |
I was disturbed watching videos of a young man dressed in designer outfits, adorned with expensive wristwatches, wearing exotic shoes, displaying bags of costly perfumes, and being chauffeured around in flashy vehicles. His entourage includes a motley crew of well-armed bodyguards with sophisticated weapons, attendants, allies, and hangers-on, whether striding with him in processions or moving in long convoys. To top it off, he even took to the skies in private jets. What is evident is the young chaps clear cultivation of celebrity culture, steeped in material flamboyance, whether in balling with music superstars like Davido, driving about in supercars and hosting associates to flamboyant gourmet dinners which are all deliberately videoed for showboating on his social media platforms, for maximum publicity. What I found deeply disturbing was that this young man, who goes by the name Abba Yusuf Bichi, is a Nigerian. Yet, with his over two million followers on social media, he remains largely unknown among the hardworking Nigerian businessmen and multimillionaires who could afford such a life of extravagant opulence. Surprisingly, he shares a name in a manner that appears too close for comfort with a humble, modest, and result-oriented spymaster Yusuf Magaji Bichi, the Director General of the Department of State Security Service (DSS). Could they hail from the same fast-developing Bichi Emirate Council of Kano State? I havent bothered to verify, as it ordinarily would seem absurd to associate the pompous and flashy young man with the accomplished spymaster. Spymasters play a pivotal role in intelligence and covert operations worldwide. They lead and manage sleuth networks while overseeing critical tasks related to national security, counterterrorism efforts, and other clandestine endeavours on behalf of the state. Due to the delicate nature of their veiled assignments, spymasters function behind the scenes. They ensure that their family members, spouses, children, and even parents remain shielded from public scrutiny to avoid unnecessary exposure. The spymaster we know well, Yusuf Magaji Bichi, boasts extensive intelligence work experience. He has performed in various operational roles before assuming leadership positions within the Department of State Services as its Director-General. Many within the security and intelligence services can attest to Bichi’s professional integrity. For instance, Chief Peter C. Nwaoduah, one of the longest-serving directors-general of the DSS (1992-1999), vouched for his competence and dedication. In a foreword to a book on the legacy of Yusuf Bichi, Nwaoduah wrote: “The personality in whose honour this collection was put together is not used to being celebrated. If anything, he would be embarrassed, if not blushing! Bichi is known to be taciturn, even indifferent and shy to take credit for the numerous services rendered to the Nation. Bichi is used to everyday life packed with actionfast-paced and non-stopin the protection of his fatherland! He is addicted to his job. He always has been, and this explains why, from the beginning, he chose a life of being an operative of what Nigerians call The Secret Service or The Secret Police. He had a successful first outing and, after that, retired! But again, service to the Fatherland came beckoning. It was not what he prepared himself to do again. He needed a quiet life after retirement. However, imbued with patriotism, he was back to work!” Similarly, the shortest-serving DG of the DSS (August to September 2018), Mathew B. Seyefa, narrated their relationship, which spanned some 40 years. As he recounted, they joined the service on the same day, and their first point of convergence was their mutual attraction for Mallam Aminu Kano’s enduring legacyan epitome of modesty, populism, and aversion to primitive material acquisition. Seyefa emphasised, “People change when power is entrusted to them, but Bichi, as DGSS, has remained his simple, unassuming, warm, and unflappable self. Therefore, it is not surprising that on several occasions, the DSS, under Bichi, has issued warnings to Nigerians regarding the dangers of flaunting wealth in public. In one such advisory, the service stated that ostentatious displays of affluence pose a significant security risk and attract the attention of criminal elements, including kidnappers and bandits. Since flaunting wealth endangers the individual, the family, and the broader community, the Secret Service advises citizens to adopt moderate lifestyles and avoid unnecessary show-offs. One may wonder about the real background of the young celebrity, Abba Yusuf Bichi. And while his means of livelihood remain shrouded in mystery, he maintains predictable routines. He boasts an ostentatious attitude akin to Yahoo Yahoo boys, who expose themselves easily to security scrutiny and public irritation, often leading them to hire legions of security agents for protection as they embark on their various acts of ridiculous and conspicuous material exhibitions and consumption. While public officers and businesspeople are urged to lead modest lives appropriate to their positions and income, ostentatious displays of questionable affluence should be discouraged due to their negative impacts on society. The seeming glitter of these highly impressionable displays can lure vulnerable youth down perilous paths, including the yield to fraudulent activities, prostitution, and even money rituals. However, it is essential to differentiate between these so-called celebrities and genuinely accomplished and wealthy individuals. True wealth often resides in modesty and humble lifestyles, even amidst enormous financial success. The overnight flaunting of opulence by money-miss-road celebrities serves as a bad influence, inadvertently signalling to impressionable youth that material wealth is attainable through any means, including illicit ways. Moreover, such displays attract the attention of violent criminalskidnappers, armed robbers, and banditsworsening crime rates in society. Nigerian youth must be encouraged to acquire digital literacy and financial education. Wise investments can secure their future without resorting to criminal activities. Additionally, safeguarding personal information in todays digital age is crucial. Even cybercriminals exploit such data for extortion and attacks. Citizens should remain vigilant and take measures to protect themselves and society. Meanwhile, to stem the tide of reckless wealth flaunting, responses like those recently taken against naira abusers should be activated. Relevant law enforcement bodies, including anti-corruption and revenue agencies, should scour social media accounts to find many who might be engaged in opulent displays, verify their sources of income and tax compliance, etc., and ascertain their social rectitude. Prosecution should follow where necessary. It is fascinating how two individuals sharing the name Yusuf Bichi can lead vastly different lives one in the spotlight of luxury and the other a conservative dwelling in the shadows of covert operations. By the way, who is the young and over-protected celebrity? By Yushau A. Shuaib https://yashuaib.com/2024/04/yusuf-bichi-spymaster/

Important for young parents and parents to be WESTERN EDUCATION "OBSESSION"!!! # CAUSES 1) As soon as a child becomes a year old, we start buying toys for him or instilling the love of pictorial objects or cartoons into him... 2) The mother begins to teach him/her baby that: A is for Apple and B is for Ball, but doesn't teach her baby that A is for Allah and B is for Bismillah continuously. 2)At the age of two or three, we take him into a day-care centre where his Western education journey begins. 3) At the age of 3, s/he is in nursery 1 or KG 1. Children ordinarily don't like going to schools 'cos they are not used to it. They prefer the company of Mummy at home. That’s why they all cry when going to school. 4) The child begins to observe: # Everyday my mummy prepares me for school # Under the sun or in the rain # I have a unique uniform for school # With time, the kid begins to love "schooling" because it looks to him like the utmost reason of existence. -5) At the age of 5, he is in Primary one: #Everyday, the parents wakes him up for school but not for fajr # He is quickly bathed on school days but not during weekends # His hair is combed and his nails trimmed so that he won't be beaten in school for dirtiness #Everyday his assignments are checked by his parents but no one bothers about his Islamiyyah assignments #His school fees are paid on time bt no one cares about his Islamiyyah dues. # The father takes him to school early "before" assembly but the father doesn't take him to Juma'ah early "before" the Khutbah. #The child begins to reason about all these. So he becomes more inclined to school than Islamiyyah! 6) When exams are approaching, the parents be like: "Hey, no sleeping tonight, you gotta read, you must come first in class" # So the child begins to burn the night candles but no one orders him to wake up for tahajjud, "...he should be tired. After all, he READ overnight...!!!" ##His parents be like: "I will buy WHATEVER you want for you if you come out with flying colours" But, alas!!! no one makes such promises concerning his Islamiyyah exams. # # During exam periods, parents be like: Hey, no more TV until you finish your exams, no more visiting of friends, no more football bla bla bla. ###So the child begins to see exam periods as a kinda mini judgement day! . This is how a child's impression about Western education is "conditioned" to look so great to him as if its the first purpose of creation! # LONG TERM EFFECTs... On the long run, the child begins to think wild, read wide about life and worldly things, but hardly thinks about the hereafter. 1) He doesn't cry when going to school anymore 'cos he is used to staying away from home. Because of this, he wants a boarding school or he wants admission into a uni that's far away from home! (Especially our Muslim girls)!! 2) They don't wanna be under mum's control anymore. They wanna become their own "boss"! 3) When a teenager gets an admission into any institution, he goes crazy, jubilating, and celebrating but when he is given an admission into an Halqah (study circle), he doesn't even wear a smile on his face! 3) They now have big dreams, career obsession, "I wanna become a Professor by all means", but the young lad doesn't care about becoming a scholar of the Deen! And the parents too be like: 'If u come out wit first class, I will send you to "America" for your Masters'... 4) The child's obsession about western education increases the more! So s/he wants to earn dat first class by all means, even by offering herself to the lecturer or sorting his lecturer! 4) That's why you see that when Undergraduates finally graduate from the University after their final exams, they go crazy, jubilating, staining their shirts wit markers, dancing, jumping, partying as if they have won a ticket to Jannah, you won't blame them, that's because western education has been made to look like a TROPHY to them! 5) They are graduates and their spoken English is mindblowing but they can't recite Suratul Faatihah with Tajweed! 6) They contest and compete for SUG presidents, class monitors, school association Presidents. But when it comes to Sallah, they go and stay at the last line! 7) When its time for NYSC, the Muslim girls won't hesitate to wear bum-shots and t-shirts, they "happily" run, jog and do exercises with men, dance and partake in MissNYSC because they don't give a damn what the religion says about all these because they already believe "anything" is worth sacrificing for education to prevail. # # Because education has been made to look like a competition while religion has been made to look like an "option"! . # PROBLEMS ... 1) This obsession, makes our women refuse to get married until they have bagged degrees and masters! 2) It makes d men lazy to prepare for marriage until they have gotten a well paying job, a car, a house and a professorship. 3) It makes our women quote western "proverbs" often rather than quoting Ahaadith. 4) Our children love soccer, artistes and celebrities but they can't mention 10 Companions of the Prophet 5) Our children now have a whole room full of novels, western books, encyclopedias and the likes but the only islamic book they have at home is the Quran! 6) Our kids now think, being an "elite" is the ultimate success while those "Imams" are illiterates who are losers in this world! 7) When that student finally gets a job, he becomes "obsessed" with it too at the detriment of his Deen. He goes to work everyday including sundays9) He is always on business trips 10) He leaves home for work before his kids wake up and he goes back home late when his kids are already asleep. 11) During Subhi, he is on his way speeding to work, during Dhuhr, he is busy wit office duty, during Asr he is in a board meeting, during maghrib he is just closing for d day, during Isha, he is stuck in the traffic jam, when he gets home he combines all his Salawaat "if" he has the strength! In summary, this is the kind of AQEEDAH that our obsession for western education has instilled in us, if not for the timely guidance that Alllah has bestowed on us, how many are people out there who are still wallowing in this pool of ignorance thinking dey are d successful ones? Am not saying we shouldn't go to school, surely islam encourages education but not to the extreme or at the detriment of Deen! Suggest the possible solution yourselves as two good heads are better than one! May Allah forgive and guide us, amen! Please let's forward this to each and every muslim contact. It will really help insha Allah. Muhammed Nur Daura. |
