You are right about the purpose of this forum. We are suppose to share our understandings/information about cars and not marketing cars. It's suppose to be like a nigerian version of swedespeed or benzworld. We have derailed seriously. There isn't a problem making sales on one or two threads but it's main purpose shouldn't be a usedcars.com alternative.

Mercedes cut their quality by 2/3 after the 16v Evo baby Benz made its debut.  It was announced and finally, the last over-engineered Mercedes ('98 S600) was going to be the last of its kind ever to be designed and manufactured because of the research and time.  It took almost 15 years to design the W140.  The next line up of Mercedes' were flops and people complained.  In '98, the current CEO that made the decision retired with a huge bonus.   Last year, the $200,000 Mercedes was deemed the most unreliable car of the year by consumer reports and Mercedes fought back.

Engineers use to run the marketing and the finances of Daimler Benz AG till Chrysler merged.  The pressure was also compounded when Lexus was gradually taking the market because you could get virtually the same experience with the fraction of the cost of a Mercedes in a Lexus.

True, they are having recalls and issues but it's the only car that you'd have that after 300,000 miles, it still drives like new and going.  It may have a huge impact on your wallet but it's up to the owner. Aerodynamics, fuel injection technology, frictionless travel of the piston to its surroundings is a factor that any fan isn't willing to let go. The sad thing is that today's benzes are built in mexico.

@Shaiguy

What Sultaan has said is very true.  It is very clear that he has a detailing personality and I respect him for that.  Today's Camry is a mess.  It is so trendy in Houston that a Nigerian (settled with a family) must have a Camry.  It's problematic and the main disrespectful feature of that vehicle is that sometimes, it downshifts when you apply the brakes.  I noticed this when it downshifted twice on the freeway and the engine revved wildly.  It also made the news at one time that it revs on it's own thus picking up speed.  Toyota attributed the problem to the floor mat.  Fools would buy that story.

@Siena

What you said is pretty strong. Strong in the sense that it is difficult. You may not know the life of a prostitute but it isn't what normal people call life. Marrying them means you are marrying the other men that they have submitted to. It's a point of no return (if you want to categorically put it in logical understanding). Without them telling you anything, they are hated. Their presence bring hatred. People don't like them for any reason and they are usually full of themselves.

She will never be committed to you because she is a fragmented person. She has nothing left for you. She has seen everybody, what makes you different. You are talking about a marriage designed in hell. There will be no trust. She is use to people not regarding her as worth, so you treating her as a person would be so not comfortable.

I can better explain in on spiritual terms since it's hard for me to relay it in English. This is a general thread so nothing beyond nature. Except you are perversed, or you are one yourself, it can't be successful on the marriage plane.

Men that patronise prostitutes have themselves to blame. Besides other factors that may cause it, a huge blame falls on the upbringings. Like begets like as well as birds of a feather flocking together.

She'll eventually return to prostitution except the yoke is broken by the power of God. I got to learn that in Europe unlike America, an ex-prostitute cannot get a decent job.

Except you are willing to go through these and plenty more, the answer would be no or left undecided. Prostitution is a perversion against feminity.

What is the reality today? Many men have married prostitutes indirectly.

You don't know a quarter of the story yet.  The things my friend has said and the way he treats his parents is unquestionable.  Some people were just raised bad. This is the same person that told his mother to her face why he wasn't born in america as her friends were doing. Rude slowpoke!  Some people loose their roots when they go overseas.  I've been warned to stay from him.
AutosRe: Help With A New Key/remote by Ivvie: 4:23pm On Oct 21, 2007
That is so true. I currently know somebody doing this presently. The uncle of the one that owns the Outlander. He stays at home all day while his workshop rebuilding salvage cars to be sold. It's a very big business. Funny enough, all his cars are below 40,000 miles.

Goodness!

I think people should also ask for titles too. It's even risky to buy a car used by more than two owners.

If you want to know my recmdn, I'd say a 4runner. Less problems, not to hard on fuel and it'll strife on failing parts till it completely kaputs. A Cherokee is not easy on fuel and doesn't hold the ground as the 4runner does. It wouldn't be a funy truck when it begins to get old. I don't know anything about Isuzu's. I know Toyota's are built for 10 years 200,000 miles or 250 depending on the year. As for parts, Toyota isn't that expensive (except you are in the States). If I was going for 4X4's I'd go for Toyota. A Cherokee also drives like a pick up truck.

I have no experience on cars just the knowledge and engineering that causes them to function and malfunction. I'm the wrong person to ask but narrowminded info (if you don't mind). Keep in mind, a car wet can never function the way it was designed to function except you replace every single component (you might as well buy another car).

A flooded vehicle would give you all the electrical problems you can imagine. It'll stall on the way. If it was completely submerged in water, printed tags such as one fitted at the side of the indash radio would have been washed off (ink). You can run a carfax report (there is a cost). Humid/moisture odour (or moist when left under the sun i.e if it's been recent) and plenty more. As long as the battery is plugged in and you crank the car for use, everything is deteriorating.

Some people would look at it and tell you instantly without running tests. There are major tests that could be done. If no one's able to answer, I'll get it within a week from today.

I'm not science inclined but engineering. I'm not good in science nor liberal arts. There are articles on these that are simple with no jargons or technical terms.

One thing I know (and I think it's a law governing life) is if you take the time to do your homework concerning a product or item and you extensively acquire knowledge about it, you seem to lord over what you will acquire. You are the first person that I know that owns a Ford that's having no issues. I rushed into buying my very first car. I spent so much money and became broke that I had to use my executive class ticket to Lagos money on it. As I was replacing parts, other parts were spoiling because new parts were being placed on old parts. A nigerian sold the vehicle to me far higher than the book value and the car had more than 11 severe accidents within a 5 year period. The car had it's own personality and I believed it was cursed. The car fax to that vehicle was more than 20 pages and clean record is 9. The state refused to register it and some papers were done to have it rectified. I did bad that semester and ended up donating it to a salvage dealer to have it stripped then crushed.

It's a very painful lesson and with all my background and knowledge, my friends still tease me to date. The last vehicle I bought took me 7 months of research because I made my mind not to be a profit specimen to repair dealers.

Hei, that VIN you looked up, thumbs up. I believe nigerians appreciate people like you. I wish I had someone tell me when it was my time.

I wouldn't want to snatch an M Class from you, I don't like an M Class and will not ever. I own three cars and a Mercedes happens to be one of them. I wouldn't buy a car that I have not researched on and gone around asking questions that may seem stupid. An unreliable and worse undependable car is an experience one is not ready to deal with and I know you are on the same level with me. I have been a Mercedes fan since my pre teen and studied their engineering over the years starting from it's history.

I can see that I wrong somewhere, you are trying to make a sale. I must assume that your vehicle is clean. I wasnt coming harsh on you, just pointing an opinion. Someone mentioned New Orleans and I explained. I did not say your car was among the number of Katrina flooded vehicles either.

I am not surprised. My friend is sending his Mitsubishi Outlander to Nigeria because it has no value in the United States (it's been in accidents and driven harshly since he owned it). Cosmetically it looks decent and neat but a car accidented looses a huge value how much more repeated. Someone coached him that he'd make the initial amount he bought the car for. It's easy selling a car in the United States if all is well and clean in records. I wonder why they send it home and broadcast that it's for sale. I guess this is the answer.

Peace Man and may you never be played in life.
CultureRe: First Wife Or Never by Ivvie: 3:24pm On Oct 21, 2007
The bible did not say a man would be married to 7 women, it said the time is coming when 7 women would approach a man and the least they are asking for is to bear his last name. To avoid reproach. Some men may take advantage of it, polygamy would not be the issue of the minds of the women as long as they bear the man's name. It's slowly manifesting today. The women claimed that they'd eat their own bread and wear their own apparell. Meaning, they'd make their own living and dress the way they want (no commitment nor unity) just to bear a name. Today's marriage, men and women do things differently with seperate jobs and aren't dependent on their husbands as suppliers. It's slowly coming to pass. Women marry late now compared to decades back.

Seun, you are in your twenties, the bible has been for ages. It would be stupid of you not to regard nor acknowledge it. It was there before you and will be there ever after you die. Majority of the people on earth can't be stupid to believe in it and you single yourself out and follow doctrines of atheists and activists. That's just my two cents to you. I know you as an intelligent individual but a fool is known when he speaks. Don't bring yourself to that level. If you haven't experienced the power of the bible or have questions about the authority of the bible, ask God about it and seek for a
an answer. Be in expectation of it. God answers! He isn't dumb. Don't go around talking about light-years that physics can't lay claim on realisticly.

I'm not dissing you nor Ford owners but the corporation themselves. They actively put people in danger because of profit. They don't care and will not look out for your welfare. Americans have been loyal till the past year or two when it suddenly dawned on them that some people were getting richer off their loyalty while they were left to foot huge repair bills. I live in Texas and lots of high ways and a couple of race tracks. Ford is known to spit spark plugs out. The explorers, F series and the Mustangs (V8 models and V10). Would you say that this wasn't documented before it was sent for production? The software used would have given them the failure criterion of each plugs with respect to the threads, combustion pressure and surrounding heat. But because it'll be at a cost that they aren't willing to shed, they leave it to the customer's that will purchase it.

You'll understand what I am talking about if you a simple research on Material Science, Finite Element Analysis / Stress Analysis. Just brisk through. You'll have a different reaction to anything you purchase or where and how you'd spend your money. Things won't fool you anymore. You'd rather save to get what you want than compromise.

Sultaan, the 2.7L Chrysler engines are known for timing chain failures without warnings.  Any vehicles not designed well will not perform well or stand the test of time.  I have no experience with american cars because they are intentionally not built to last.  Remember in the adverts, "Best in class in Initial Quality."  The initial quality is a polished way to say it's only good when its very new.  I know how these cars are built, I know how machine components are built and the life it's designed for. Every component is designed with a life span and the life span is being calculated. American cars are designed just to the marginal point where it doesn't fail till the warranty is over. This can be fully explained through material science of finite element analysis (and I'm not going there).

Ford's are just bad cars, period.  Not just bad cars but the corporation also is a home wrecker and a decedence to the society.  They are finally fulfilling the "law of diminishing returns" and that's in quote - symbolic.

And they wonder why they aren't selling.

They once built good vehicles. In my department, one of my professors has a 1938 Ford truck. This truck is still on it's original engine. An air conditioner and A/C has been vamped into this truck. It was given to him by his grandfather who owned a wood company. It's stud and hugs the ground. Today's trucks would burn down your home or leave you stranded. In traffic sometime ago, fire was blazing out of a Ford Powerstroke exhaust pipe. Would you call that entertainment? I believe they have placed a spell on people to still return and purchase their vehicles. Go online and read about the mustangs of the late 50's through '70's and investigate why those jalopies ended up in flames and gasoline spilling to the front row seats.

The Covair?! That's just another episode. A car that gets into a wrech when parked by itself. You wouldn't need someone to conclude that they aren't worth your money.

well a repented prostitute!!!!!!!! Wonders shall never end with all this so called grammar. For me its no. I was at a place one day and a guy walked in so sad. He was like guys you need to witness what happened at the wedding i went to today.
He was like at the wedding, when it was the turn of the hubby and the wifey to kiss each other, one of the guys he was sitting beside told the second one
"you know i have slept with that girl 4 or 5 times", of which the second one replied him saying "oh i thought i was the only one that did that".
And before you could say JACK ROBINSON 6 different guys confessed to have slept with the girl and this was been talked about on her wedding day.Imagine been a laughing stock of the society

HAI

I would not want that to happen to me so i say no to "AS YOU GUYS SAID IT" a repented prostitute

The same nonsense happened in Chicago. This time, the bridegroom men (12 in number) had all slept with woman to be married. It was at the alter the truth was exposed.

Saab and Volvo are two most expensive cars to maintain.

Why does everyone refer to Benzes as gas guzzlers. They aren't gas guzzlers. Depending on the size of your engine, your fuel economy will vary. There is no car manufacturer in the world that builds injector engines as the E Classes and other Mercedes models. Fuel is burnt cleaner in Mercs than any other car in it's class. I have a 6 cylinder E320 and I get better fuel economy than my 5 Cylinder Volvo that is almost half it's power and engine size (provided I stay within 65MPH). I don't care what people say about Mercedes, there is no car that still drives like new with almost no engine wear after 20 years.

The BMW's are there. Talk about the 5.45i! That is what you call gas guzzler and most definitely, pay gas guzzling tax at purchase. You can't eat your cake and have it. Buy a Benz, you buy security, safety, comfort and performance. You get a BMW, you buy a 50/50 weight distributed scrap that breaks down in 5 years.

As for the three cars mentioned, the only car among them is the Audi. Cars like Camry and Honda are called tin cars, meaning a conveyor that takes you from point A to B. The enginuity in all the three are completely different and the discipline put into those vehicles are wide apart.

Maintenance, I rest my case! I can only vouch for the Toyota. I don't like Honda's and I know nothing about the Audi's. Take the pain to detail your vehicle.

Somebody said "Every car has it's positives and negatives." True to that. It's also true that some vehicles exaggerate this principle.

The vehicle is x by wire. It is SAE’s breakthrough on multiplexing Euro Automobiles at the time.  What x by wire details bulky and mechanical systems/components being replaced by complicated electrical systems.  The outcome of this is more efficiency and increased performance.

This is a field under Control Systems.

You'll only need to buy a left-hand dash and transfer everything to the left side and replace the headlights since they are reflected to the left.  It's going to be a plug and uplug task.

X by wire relating to the Jaguar is steering by wire, brake by wire, throttle by wire and they could be easily translated without heavy labour.

Most manufacturers have adopted this method in manufacturing, since it cuts costs but the disadvantages aren't funny.  If your friend is savvy, it could do it because it's been prewired.

That vehicle better not be wet. In perfect condition, it's so problematic, let alone being flooded.

@Sultaan,

His price might be overpriced (considering the reliability of the Mercedes he is talking about). The price isn't even worth it. It's a cheap vehicle in design with severe electrical problems and needless high mechanical maintenance.

There are paid services that give vehicle history. Though, not 100% but it's a starting point. I can only give carfax but there are others. Some people don't need it because of their trained eyes and deep perception about things but I do. It'll be very helpful in the long run. The first car I ever bought was a serious lemon and I ended up giving it to a salvage dealer. It had no value. It had 22 pages of carfax history (clean report is 9 pages) and these were serious issues. It came to lime-light when the state of Louisiana would not register the car because it was deemed salvage. And worse, a nigerian sold it to me explioting the fact that I needed a vehicle from school to my apartment.

Start from Carfax, I don't know how much it is now. Some accidents may not be reported, so you do a careful observation too. Don't forget to check the transmission fluid (smell and colour).

All the best to you, man.
AutosRe: Mercedes Benz E300 For Sale by Ivvie: 2:01pm On Oct 20, 2007
that chassis number were e series not e classes.  For example, 200E or 260E not E200 or so.  Those are euro specs and I want to believe the 6 cylinders (if I'm right through the manifolds counted) were either 260 or 280.  The e next to the number stands for fuel injector (einspritzung).  1998, E classes adopted the V format 6 cylinder engine.  E300's for W124 chassis were all diesel.

Maintenance for this vehicle will be extremely minimal and wouldn't run as hot as the models sold here in the U.S. There is actually no space in the hood of the american version.
