https://www.nairaland.com/3009725/blood-description-significance-blood-jesus BLOOD" [MEDICAL DESCRIPTION; BIBLICAL AND OCCULT MEANING; THE SIGNIFICANCE OF THE BLOOD OF Jesus]Have you ever wondered why people become disturbed and ardent any time they see blood gushing or flowing out slowly from the body? Of course, blood is a body fluid that needs to beenclosed within vessels. I had a female friend in Akure few years back ,anytime she fell and experienced a cut in any of herbody parts revealing this red fluid, she would cry,but if there is no exposure of internal tissue or blood, she would get up quickly without the awareness of anyone. Why is this so? Many persons see blood as one of the basic things needed in the body for "life", while to some, blood is just an emotive and perturbable substance probably because of its reddish colour. The latter may be true to some extent due to the occult significance of colour red and also its tensive property.Medically, blood is a connective tissue in fluid form. It is considered as the " fluid of life" because it carries Oxygen(a gas required for the catabolism of glucose in the body to generate ATP needed) from lungs to all parts of the body and Carbon{iv}oxide (an acidic and cell toxic gas needed to be excreted) from all parts of the body to the lungs. It is known as"fluid of growth" because it carries nutritive substances from the digestive system and hormones from endocrine gland to allthe tissues. The blood is also called the "fluid of health" because it protects the body against diseases and gets rid of the waste products and unwanted substances by transporting them to the excretory organs like kidneys. Note, blood is refferred to as a tissue because it consists of cells - erythrocytes, leukocytes and thrombocytes. Erythrocyte, also known as Red blood cell (RBC),contains haemoglobin which gives it the colour red as the name implies and due to the dominance of the RBCs,the whole fluid(blood) appears red. Although, variations do occur; it appears red when Oxygen is bounded with the haemoglobin present in the RBC, dark red in the absence of Oxygen and brownish red due to rapid irreversible oxidation of Fe2+ present in the haemoglobin to Fe3+ owing totally to the loss of an enzyme called methemoglobin reductase when the blood is exposed to atmosphere. From the above medical and biochemical explanation, you should agree with me that it is by way of the blood that the"inner man" comes into contact with that which is exterior and that in the course of this process, man's blood absorbs Oxygen which constitutes the very breath of life and which gives it(the blood) its colour-red.Due to its importance to life, blood is associated with a large number of beliefs. One of the most basic is the use of blood as a symbol for family relationship; to be 'related by blood' is to berelated by ancestry or descendance, rather than marriage. This bears closely to bloodlines, and sayings such as "blood is thicker than water" and "Blood brother".THE IMPORTANCE AND SIGNIFICANCE OF BLOOD IN THE BIBLEThe word " blood" appears 346 times in the Old Testament (KJV translation), and 101 times in the New Testament, I.e, 447times in all. For years growing up as a child,I heard Christians talk about the blood. How the blood of Jesus saves us from our sins. How we can plead the blood over sickness and have good health. Thank God for Anglicanism, during holy Communion service in my home church (St. Stephen's Ang. Church,Iju), each time the vicar raises up the 'cup' and makes reference to the place in the bible where Jesus inaugurated the New Covenant after His last passover with the disciples, it enlightens me more.Following the principle of first mention (where a topic is first mentioned in the Bible usually reveals some indication of its importance), we look at Genesis 4:10 where God speaks of Abel's blood crying from the ground. Did the spirit of God hear the spirit of Abel crying in agony of death through his blood? It would seem so.Then in Gen9:4,where God first approved eating of meat,He prohibited eating meat that hadn't properly "bled out" because there was still blood in the meat and the life is in the blood. In Gen9:6, He first instituted capital punishment saying;"Whoever sheds the blood of man,by man his blood will be shed". This was later summarized as 'a life for a life'.The shedding of innocent blood is the remedy for sin. First came the temporary remedy, an innocent animal(in the Old Testament) and then the permanent one when the Lord's own blood was shed(in the new testament). Once again, we see a life for a life,so it appears God equates blood with life. Finally, the phrase " flesh and blood" designates human nature apart from moral evil. Read Hebrews2:14.The above biblical references also justify the use of blood as a sign of covenant. "And Moses took the blood, and sprinkled it on the people and said, behold the BLOOD OF THE COVENANT,which the Lord hath made with you concerning all these words"-Exodus 24:8.THE SIGNIFICANCE OF THE BLOOD OF Jesus"NEITHER BY THE BLOOD OF GOATS AND CALVES, but by Hisown blood He entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us" (Heb 9:12)."But in those sacrifices there is a remembrance again made of sins every year. For it is NOT POSSIBLE THAT THE BLOOD OF BULLS AND GOATS should take away sins"(Heb 10:3-4)The above verses are some of the key verses in the Bible that show this fact - only the blood of Christ is what ultimately counts and has value - not the blood from the Old Testament animal sacrifices. When Jesus died,He completed everything that the blood required. By His one sacrifice on the cross, Everything was provided to satisfy the heart of God and pay the price for our sin and rebellion.Below is a summary of the significance that the Blood of Jesusincorporates;- we have peace with God through the blood of Jesus (Eph. 2:12-14)-forgiveness of sins. 1John1:7 says " But if we walk in the light,as He is in light,we have fellowship one with another and the blood of Jesus Christ His son cleanseth us from sin.- we are elected or chosen by God unto salvation because of the blood (1Peter1:2)- the Holy Communion is one of the most sacred sacrament in Christianity. "And as they were eating,Jesus took...for this is my blood of the New Testament, which is shed for many..." -Matthew 26:26-29.In addition, our eternal victory all through the book of Revelation is because of the blood. Almost all of us are familiar with this popular quote, though many do not know what it really means -"And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony;and they loved not their lives unto the death." (Rev.12:11)Moreover, it is faith in the actual blood of Jesus that saves us and removes our sins. (Rom3:24-25 ; Eph 1:6-.Finally dear reader, I have tried defining blood as "fluid life" medically and biblically, tell the reason why blood is required for the remission of sins and also explained how and why the blood of Jesus Christ has replaced those of bulls, goats and calves used previously. It takes courage to read a long article like this but it could be perilous if after reading, you still continue with sins. Paul said in his epistle to the Romans,"What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? God forbid!" Christ had bridged the gap between God and man. He is the only way to Him(God), establish a strong faith in Him and you shall be saved. I pray the power of His(Christ) death and resurrection shall manifest in our lives IJN. AMEN.HAPPY EASTER in advance |
