@ passyjango:

Nobody said IBB invented corruption, he institutionalized it and made it a state policy. In fact corruption is alive in every country, IBB made it possible for people not to hide it, instead people are proud of it now. That's the difference and tragedy.

Assassinations - what happened in the 60s to Balewa et al which you mentioned was death in a coup d'etat, not assassination. IBB has lots of death by c'oup which I discountenanced. Remember Vatsa? IBB's bestman? IBB killed him for a fake c'oup which has not been substantiated till date. By assassination I mean killing of political or civil opponents illegally without any offence.

Just because no govt has been bold to try him does not mean there are no evidences against him. Why did he run away from Oputa panel?
How can he escape the following if a serious minded person gets into govt and decides to ask him?
1. How he acquired his 50 room palacial mansion in Minna? If you add all his salaries from 1963 when he joined the Army to 1993 when he was disgraced out, assuming he did not spend a kobo, it could not buy the land and build it beyond foundation - without any fence.
2. What happened to $12Billion Oil Windfall money? Even Abacha, with all his looting, estabished PTF with it. Now it's called Excess Crude Account Money. Okigbo Panel Report is still waiting for him to answer his indictment on how he stole the whole money.
3. Over 33 people were killed in Lagos during June 12 protests by soldiers on his shoot-at-sight order. Hosni Mubarak is on trial in Egypt for same offence and will likely get a death sentence if found guilty. Yet IBB is walking freely in a warped society where some perverted minds even celebrate him!!!
So sad.

They say a people get the type of leaders they deserve, and they deserve the type of leaders they get. With citizens like passyjango, it is no wonder why Nigeria is where she is, and why we continue to wallow in absurdities. People like this person make normal people look queer and bad ones appear ok.

I weep for Nigeria after reading your comments.

The two of them are utter failures who left the country worse than they met it. They were both not the people's choices when they ruled, being foisted on the people one way or the other.

They are like headaches and stomach-ache to the country; neither is desirable. But Babangida should consider these facts before talking;

1. Assasinations - who started it in Nigeria with Dele Giwa? It does not matter that the rate is higher, whoever planted the evil seed is responsible for the plenty harvest of deaths now.
2. Corruption as a normal way of life - Before him, politicians will only demand for 10% of contract sum, and even then, it is paid after completion of projects. He brought daylight and shameless coruption in the name of "settlement", "egunje" "family support" etc. It was during his time people started to award bogus non-existent contracts. It was him that commenced abandonment of contracts after full sum has been paid.
When corrupt politicians were jailed by Buhari, unlike in Ghana where Rawlings killed them, he freed to "go and sin more" since then it has become clear that it corruption is no more a punishable offence in Naija
3. Impunity Culture - he started this also, that's why his In-law, Fred Ajudua, the husband of his wife's younger sister (Princess) became a kingping of 419 during his rule.
Lest I forget, he introduced 419 too, by proxy
4. Destruction of Middle Class - by his draconian SAP - which brought no good to anyone except increase poverty he wiped out the whole middle class in Naija in less than 2 years. Between 1986 and 1988. By 1989 half of Nigerian professionals who make up the middle class had left the country. If it were not for IBB, Nigeria would have developed far beyond now, perhaps like Malaysia if all our brains had remained in the country
It's because of him people are looked for ways -anyhow- to
leave the country, and still do. Before him nobody looked forward to leaving for good. Summer travels were common amongst middle level civil servants and their children, as well as with university students - and they all came back. Nobody treated Nigerians with disrespect abroad.
5. Wicked Devaluation of Naira - when he plotted his coup, $1 was less than N1, £1=N1.  Overnight, he announced that it was now $1 to N4, and within 3 yrs, it was N12. Let's look at it in today's perspective. Imagine that the new cars sold for N2m now suddenly became N10m by tomorrow due to the President's announcement, and rise to N30m by 3 years! Or the phone you buy for N20,000 suddenly becomes N100,000 by next week, and N300,000 by 2013! Or that mini-flat of N100k suddenly becomes N500k per annum, and then N1.5m per year just for u to rent (not to build)
That was how used or 2nd hand goods and cars/okadas entered Nigerian's lives. that was how the market was created for us to move backwards while other nations moved forward. Prior to IBB everybody bought new "tear rubber" goods and vehicles.
Shamefully the, he kept deceiving Nigerians that that was the sense in SAP!

Whatch out for Part 2 & 3 of how IBB wrecked this country and put us on the path to irreversible regression.

Honourable? Is he still worth (if he ever was) that title?
PoliticsPresidential Debate: Is It Ok For Jonathan To Ask For (expo) Prepared Questions? by iyes(op): 6:37pm On Mar 04, 2011
Our President, Goodluck Jonathan, a PhD holder, has been reported to have asked for prepared questions to be given to all candidates in the Presidential Debate several dates ahead as the condition for him to participate, and that the audience should not be allowed to ask questions from them (candidates) during the session.

Is this in order, and what is the implication if it's not?
