oga Gazzuz .

Pls help me with the proper advise ... my EOD 2004 transmission has been perfect as i have been using DW for close to a year and no issues .. some day before xmas eve i passed through a very rough road and the supply hose UNDERNEATH was cut into two by a sharp object or stone this made the transmission oil to spill out . immediately the hose cut someone noticed it and i had to stop the car immediately.

luckily there was mechanic shop closeby. the guy i met there told me the hose has been split due to it dangling so used razor and cut to size then fixed it to the pipe which fitted in again . he asked me the kind of oil I normally use .i told him clearly that its dw1 .but at that particular point it was getting late no where I could get dw1 and i needed to get the car home .so he suggested I use the normal atf oil then maybe on Monday after Xmas holiday i will then drain and put in my normal dw 1.

after putting in the normal transmission oil the car was normal till after xmas and some days back just after boxing day i noticed the gear began to slip . I had to go get the normal oil that i have been using .and flushed the other oil out . but then i noticed the same thing was happening . and the d light began to blink as i was on drive .

to cut the long story short i was trying to take the car back to the mechanic to explain the development when the entire gear stopped working . it doesn’t engaged on drive except on reverse gear. the mechanic having known the car understood that it was the oil that was messing up again had to drive the car on reverse to his shop and we had to do a second flushing for a second day . in between these two day I have used 10 1 quartz of DW each can is 3,500 and the gear is still slipping . it doesn’t engage in the drive up till now . i have left the car at the mech shop since yesterday .

I am troubled and worried as i have spent roughly enough close to 40k just to flush and i dont want to keep spending more on what I am not sure of . I was beginning to think maybe the last oil has done some damages to the transmission or if the gear will still pick and start engaging like my mechanic was assuring me . I am in real confused state . please a quick and urgent advise is needed as I am in pains not been able to use the car since yestrday .

A former colleague of mine who lives around your area takes bike to and fro.
I use to do that 5am too before, when I never knoew the road will be free by 7am, my eyes will go sore, I'll be feeling sick throughout the day. But the day I decided I will leave home late, I discovered, leaving 5am don't matter, I won't myself extra one hour sleep, one hour reading or browsing.
I could think of productive programs also.

Before I started driving to work, I'd wake up by 5am, leave the house by 6am, get to Kilo bus stop to enter a bus to CMS. I work on the Island.

I'd be there for AT LEAST 20 minutes, waiting for it to get filled up. With the traffic, and the chance of the bus breaking down, I'd get to the office some minutes to 8am. 2 hours on the road!

Don't forget the fat people that you'd be unfortunate to sit beside. Or the ones that are allergic to water, soaps, deodorants, and perfumes. And I hate people toucing me, so I would always make sure I sit in front with the driver. If there are 2 seats, I'd pay for 2.

I decided, enough of this crap, and started driving to work. I've never been more relieved.

Now, I leave my house by 7:15, and get to work before 8am.
The stress of public transport can kill in Lagos, you won't get the bus in time, you'll meet a lot of crazy people at the bus park. Geez. I will have a rough day at work, so, I'd better drive down calmly.

That pressure wash is actually horrible.

I was at my mechanic the other day when a guy with a 2010 VW passat finished his service and wanted recommendations on which car wash to visit for engine wash. He was advised not to try it for some time or atleast don't go to the guys accross the road. Next thing was the car was across the road, water spraying at high pressure on his engine.

Fast forward, a month later the car never left there and was pushed back to the mechs. I never use the electrician in this workshop as I see him as the greediest illiterate Mech. The car refused to start and the battery ran down. All batteries in the workshop ran down except mine which I refused giving. Next thing this mechanic did the unthinkable, he went and rented 2 100Ah truck batteries. He kept kicking till I called him after the first battery died and told him you are only going to fry the starter motor which he ignored. I warned him if it were my car, he will certainly pay for my starter motor if he insist on doing this. Intact I told him to his face I will never let him repair my car or any car in my parents house.

2 mins later, it was over with a burnt starter motor.

Any ways I only do hand wash on my engine. I have had problems with VTEC solenoid few times after washing. I currently have the problem intermittently after last wash. It sets off limb mode on my car.

Not really a good experience.

Great lesson learnt.

Make I share the story of how my village people take mess me up last week.

I took my car to an area of sango and got some dirts in my engine bay, plus oil stains before, everything looks messy and I decided to go for an engine wash. grin

Na so we start. The guy wash am wella, the engine sweet me, I no fit lie, so freaky clean, the guy even clean radiator for me(source of my problem). I paid this guy extra for job well done.

I drove from there to my office, parked the car from 2pm till 7pm and after work in the evening, started the car and I was feeling myself(little did I know the devil has packaged some mischief)

I rolled my glass up, put on my ac and went driving on the 3rd mainland and making sure I overtook every other car. Suddenly, ac no cold again, I switched it off and continued cruising at the top speed, I now thought, guy, put the ac back on again jo, I did this as the thing dry sweet me.(mistake was, I didn't check my dash to know what could have gone wrong and why ac wasn't cooling)..

few minutes later, my engine loosed power, ghenghen, on top speed, for car wash area, hot zone where boys dey rob, na him I panic push am for between fast moving vehicles to a side of the road, where a good Samaritan who was riding a bike used his leg to push the car for me.

I parked at ogudu, confused, didn't know what's up, noticed it had overheated, but I didn't know the cause. I was confidant of my radiator filled with water, and the devil advised me to put engine oil in car, probably it was my oil that had leaked out, cos I got an oil light on dash just before shut down.(very stupid decision)

I did this, stared the car and I started moving again, now, I noticed smoke from the tail pipe, got scared thinking the car was on fire cos of light reflection on smoke, I parked on ketu bridge, just before seven up and the car shut itself down.

I towed the car home, after all efforts to start it again proved abortive.

Na so we start diagnosis o, we tried starting the car, but it didnt, finally, we discovered I had a bad head gasket, reason, my engine wash guy had punctured my radiator with his pressure pipe, and coolant had leaked out through that cry, I got the gasket changed, drained extra oil, changed spark plugs and the car didn't start until after a long time.

Now, the performance never remained the same again, shuddering, delay acceleration, very poor fuel economy,

More things, had gotten damaged, bad ignition coil, bad ignition nozzles, bad air intake sensor, faulty fuel regulator. All information from scan.
Now I had almost ran mad, cleaned throttle body, and everything.

At last, the car Has normalised, now performs very perfectly and even more than before.

Lesson learnt.

No ever wash engine oooooo

I resigned from my former place of work about 8 months ago when i got a better job. I had no issues with them during the 4 years i worked there. My former employer has been promising to pay me my remaining benefits without fulfilling this promise for about 8 months now.

Please Nairalanders, what options can I explore in order to get my hard earned money. Its obvious to me now that I need to tow another line of action if I must get my money from my former employer. I equally think its high time the government sets up a body to address such injustice in the society.

I will say for an average person, both are inevitable.
Few educated mechanic are affordable.

I do things like brake change and oil change with uneducated mechanic, but when it comes to issue of gear service, I know where to go. Engine electrical system, I know where to go. I don't toil with those.

Some uneducated mechanic Dont know the solution to your problem, they'll be toying around with switches till they damage something else.

Some educated ones too need to sit down with alldata before they can diagonise your car.

So, it's all based on experience at the end of the day.
