A High Court sitting in Okene yesterday on Friday sentenced
a Deputy Comptroller of Prisons, Joseph Idachaba to seven
years in prison for fraudulently enriching himself with over
N1.4 million belonging to Nigerian Prisons Service, NPS.
Justice Josiah Majebi of Okene High Court handed down the
sentence in the case of three-count charge of criminal
conspiracy, falsehood and fraud in a case Idachaba was
arraigned along with one other staff of the Prisons Service,
Ruth Onoja in February, by the Economic and Financial
Crimes Commission, EFCC.
The duo were alleged to have violated provisions of the
EFCC Act No. 14 of 2006 in the fraudulent transfer of
N1,403,114.09 from the accounts of NPS through payment of
salaries to a ghost staff, one Opia Mohammed Ugbede.
Prosecution submitted that the unknown Ugbede later paid
the amount into Idachaba’s account.
Majebi in his judgement said the prosecution had proved
the case of fraud against the accused beyond reasonable
doubt and went ahead to convict him of the charge but
acquitted him of conspiracy and falsehood.
He said that the convict had initially admitted commission of
the crime in his statement but later turned around to deny
it. ”The claim of the 1st accused (Idachaba) that he does not
know Opia Mohammed Ugbede who was alleged to have
paid the money into his account is but an afterthought.
“To believe the story of the 1st accused in the face of the
overwhelming evidence adduced by the prosecution is to
believe the holiness of a Bishop hanging a talisman on his
neck.”
“It is my view and I hold that by the pieces of evidence
aforementioned in this judgement, the prosecution has
established that the 1st accused knowingly misrepresented
Mohammed Ugbede Opia as a member of staff of NPS with
the intention to defraud the service.”
Majebi therefore sentenced the accused to seven years in
prison in accordance with section 1(3) of the Advanced Fee
Fraud and Other related Offences Act No 14 of 2006. The 2nd
accused, Onoja, was however discharged and acquitted as
the prosecution could not establish the charge of conspiracy
to link her with commission of the crime.

Mix three parts boric acid( or powdered camphor) with one part powdered sugar. The sugar lures the roaches, while the boric acid kills them. Although the boric acid isn’t toxic to people or pets, it can be irritating so keep it away from counters and places where little fingers and noses can reach. Sprinkle it under and behind the refrigerator, stove and dishwasher, under the sink, and into cracks along the edges of cabinets and other cracks they may hide.

5 Bring in the experts
If you have a big infestation of roaches on your hand, then you may want to bring in a professional exterminator.

According to reports, the baby was delivered in Bashua community, Boki Local Government Area of Cross River state.

It's been stated that the child suffers from a rare birth defect called "gastroschisis'' where the abdominal wall does not form correctly. The baby’s intestines are found outside of the baby’s body, exiting through a hole beside the belly button. The hole can be small or large and sometimes other organs, such as the stomach and liver, can also be found outside of the baby’s body.

Gastroschisis occurs early during pregnancy when the muscles that make up the baby’s abdominal wall do not form correctly.

The G.O of Deeper Christian Life Ministry, Pastor William Kumuyi, on Sunday said women who put on men’s wears are abomination unto God, reports.

According to the outlet, Kumuyi, who was preaching on the topic: “The Inner and Outward Beauty of Kingdom Citizens,” said the Bible specifically warned that men should not put on women’s wear neither should women put on men’s wears.

He noted everybody would frown if a preacher come to the pulpit putting on a woman’s wear as people would think he was abnormal, adding that the society seemed to appreciate women putting on men’s wears than men putting on women’s wears.

He said the standard of God would never change even if the world would change, emphasising that God frowned at any woman wearing men’s wears or men putting on women’s wears.

According to him, some Christians felt inferior because they were not copying the standard of the world, while challenging such people to keep on obeying God’s word rather than the world.

Kumuyi stated that the outward beauty that the world seemed to appreciate bred pride and arrogance, saying that the inner beauty gotten through Salvation in Christ should be coveted by all as such would lead to heaven.
