By Douglas Anele Justification For Resuscitating The Sovereign State Of Biafra (3) Accordingly, Sir James Robertson, the last colonial Governor-General, ensured that political power at the centre was eventually handed over to northerners so that the British could continue to exert influence on her puppets from a distance. A persuasive case can be made that for very bad reasons colonial officials were biased in favour of northern Nigeria to the detriment of the south and Nigeria as a whole, which was why Sir Tafawa Balewa was chosen as Prime Minister instead of Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe or Chief Obafemi Awolowo who had the intellectual sophistication and executive experience as Premiers of their respective regions to govern a newly independent complex geopolitical construct like Nigeria. (The same colonial favouritism of the north is probably the reason why the British establishment knighted two frontline northern politicians, Ahmadu Bello and Balewa, but did not extend the same honour to Azikiwe and Awolowo.) Now, from the perspective of southern Nigeria, the benefits of Lugardian amalgamation pale into insignificance when juxtaposed with the violence and destruction unleashed on the people by the colonisers, coupled with the socio-political disruptions and psychological trauma which resulted from the process. The same is partially true for northerners, except that after independence their military-civilian elite began to reap more and more benefits from the northernisation policy of Balewa instigated by the colonial administration and from overcentralisation of political power inaugurated by the military coup of January 15, 1966. The second reason for Biafra which can be distilled from the first is the complex multiply plural nature of Nigeria. But this time around I wish to focus more on religious differences, especially between the Muslim north and the Christian south, with the understanding that there is a significant population of Muslims in the south and of Christians in the north. (In the mind of a typical core Fulani Muslim, southern Muslims belong to the inferior category of Muslims.) The incredible diversity of the more than two hundred and fifty ethnic groups and subgroups, with their different cultures, languages and lifestyles is compounded by the huge difference in outlook between Christians and Muslims, brought to limelight on October 27, 1999 when Governor Ahmed Sani Yerima introduced sharia in Zamfara state. In recent years, Fulani caliphate colonialists whose philosophy of “Conquer and Islamise” is in tandem with the core objectives of Boko Haram, Myetti Allah, and other Islamist terrorist organisations are working really hard to impose Islam throughout southern Nigeria. Only few southerners knowledgeable in Islamic scriptures know that prominent members of the dominant Fulani power block consider it their Allah-approved right to lead the country and spread sharia nationwide, as adumbrated in remarks credited to Alhaji Ahmadu Bello twelve days after independence to the effect that Nigeria should be the estate of their great-grandfather, Usman Dan Fodio, with the rest of the country serving as a tool to maintain Fulani hegemony. Unfortunately, southern politicians and the elite in general are not taking the encroaching Islamisation which has gathered more speed since 2015 very seriously, and it might be too late to reverse the trend once it crosses the Rubicon, so to speak. There is no country in the world with a huge population of Muslims and non-Muslims that can boast of stable constitutional democracy because whether the Muslims control or do not control the levers of political power they cannot stop until Islam becomes the state religion. Besides, the Quran and the Hadith are fundamentally radioactive to modern democratic governance, since they stipulate that sharia is the absolute Allah-ordained law to guide the rulers and the entire community, and prescribe extremely harsh measures (including gruesome capital punishment) to ensure compliance. In this connection, the ruling Muslim cabal in northern Nigeria have always used religion as an instrument of political domination, thereby making politics at the centre inherently unstable, divisive, and very acrimonious. This explains why Maj. T.Y. Danjuma led a band of bloodthirsty northern soldiers, tacitly supported by Lt. Col. Gowon, to brutally murder Maj. Gen. J.T.U. Aguiyi-Ironsi to ensure that northerners took back power and dominate the army, an action that kick-started the succession of military coups executed by northerners for Muslim northerners. Some might say that Gowon and Danjuma are Christians. But Christian military officers from the middle-belt have always been beholden to their caliphate overlords in accordance with the Sardauna’s Fulani supremacist proclamation referred to earlier. Hence it is not surprising that one of the leitmotifs in all the crises that have reared their ugly heads since the foundation of Nigeria are religious riots in which hundreds of Christians of Igbo extraction are still being killed in the north. Lord Harcourt and Lugard Lugard made a big mistake by not considering the propensity of Muslims to seek to lord it over non-Muslims before deciding to bring the north and south into one amalgam. Any assessment of the periodic eruption of secessionist agitation in the former eastern region since 1967 that does not reckon with the religious factor is fundamentally incomplete. For all its weaknesses, liberal democracy is better than theocracy, let alone Islamic theocracy under sharia. And given the fundamental republican nature of traditional Igbo society anchored on the democratic principle of ohacracy, and that an overwhelming majority of Ndigbo are still Christians despite the aberrant pro-Islam orientation of political carpetbaggers like Orji Uzor Kalu, Rochas Okorocha and, lately, Hope Uzodinma, I predict that the people will resist the Islamisation project with everything they have. Personally, of the three Abrahamic religions, I detest Islam the most. If resuscitation of Biafra will prevent Islamisation of Igboland, then let Biafra come. One of the most important reasons for endorsing the quest for Biafra is the horrible experiences of Ndigbo and by extension the former eastern region in Nigeria. Most educated Nigerians from outside Igboland in particular often employ facetious acrobatic arguments to deflect the point made by Prof. Achebe that “Nigerians will probably achieve consensus on no other matter than their common resentment of the Igbo.” Achebe might have hyperbolised the actual situation, but there is no doubt that the weight of inter-ethnic suspicion and distrust is heavier on Ndigbo than on any other ethnic group in the country. People from other areas outside Igboland often pretend not to know that the preeminent position of Ndigbo in our national life before the revanchist coup of July 29, 1966 was more the result of the adventurous and can-do spirit of a typical Igboman than the outcome of government official favourable to the Igbo. Right from time the quota system has been implemented in a manner that favours the north. Unfortunately, the success of Ndigbo has engendered what Prof. Achebe described in Igbo as ekwolo or deep resentment borne out of jealousy in Nigerians from other ethnic groups, especially the Hausa-Fulani and the Yoruba. The Igbo partially share the blame for this: some of the successful ones are too arrogant and exhibitionist, although these weaknesses, to be candid, are universal amongst human beings across cultures and ethnicities and do not warrant the depth of dislike towards the “Jews of Africa.” That said, the simple truth is that the Igbo are hated by other ethnic groups out of envy and jealousy for being successful against all odds, despite the fact, correctly noted by one of the foremost Nigerian historians, Prof. Tekena Tamuno, that the Igbo are the makers of modern Nigeria. Due to the hatred, Ndigbo have been by far the victims of all the riots, pogroms and bloody religious uprisings that occurred in the north, including the Jos and Kano killings of 1945 and 1953 respectively, the Maitatsine riots of 1981, the beheading of Gideon Akaluka masterminded by Sanusi Lamido Sanusi (1995), Kaduna riots of 2000, Miss World Riots of 2002, Yelwa massacre of 2004, the cartoon of Prophet Muhammad crisis (2008), post-elections violence (2011), killing of Biafran protesters in several places in Igboland from late 2015 to February 2016, the murderous Operation Python Dance (2017), and several others. Thus says the Lord: They should pray for all musicians, in order to avert the demise of three of them that will make people to sigh. In the late night of August 23, 2020, the thunderous voice of the Leader of Indigenous People of Biafra, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu reverberated in anger and pain over the gruesome killing of 21 IPOB activists by Nigeria security forces. The leader of the largest peaceful freedom movement gave an order to Biafrans in Nigeria to henceforth defend themselves from any brutality from the Nigeria military and police, who since 7 years ago, have been terrorising innocent civilians. In his words, "From today, anywhere the Nigeria army, Police, DSS is involved in the killing of any unarmed civilian in BIAFRALAND, we will kill them too. If they kill one person in BIAFRALAND, we will kill hundred of them, and your corpses may not be found." The broadcast came after the horrendous killing of about 21 IPOB members by a combined team of Nigeria military, police and DSS. The choice of DSS simply shows that the attack is a premeditated one from the Nigeria Federal Government. The governor had to visit the place of the massacre in the evening, saying that the residents assured him that peace and calm has since returned. This shows that the governor wasn't briefed about the massacre. The Fulani sees South East Governors as slaves who can do nothing or say nothing, even if an entire Igbo village is wiped out. One might want to ask: Why should Nigeria government who have been pampering Fulani herdsmen terrorists and Boko Haram, forgiving and recruiting them into the country's security service, suddenly launch a deadly attack against peaceful and unarmed IPOB members that gathered in a house to pray? Are they planning to instigate a civil war? Remember that the former central bank deputy governor said that the Fulani is preparing for a civil war that will be fought in the South East. Is the massacre going on in Southern Kaduna and entire middle belt a way to conquer them for the jihadi warfare? I guess the North is optimistic they will have upper hand in any eventual war in Nigeria. The North have other hopes of getting other Fulani militias in West Africa that will be fighting for them. Militias that are already in Nigeria. The pampering of Boko Haram terrorists by the APC government and the tacit support given to the Fulani herdsmen, shows that the North is definitely up to something. Of course, there is no way the Koran can be dipped into the Atlantic ocean without fighting and conquering the entire South East. Those that still say it is impossible to be Islamised should read up about Turkey and Egypt. Some people that glorify themselves as intellectuals unfortunately feel less concerned and see the impending civil war and unprovoked brutalities as an IPOB affair. For these self acclaimed intellectuals, the Fulani controlled federal army will move in and slaughter only IPOB members, leaving them and their families. Pathetic, isn't it? What is happening is a continuation of the Jihad of Uthman Dan Fodio. The Fulani never stopped for a day in carrying out this Jihad. It is painful to every Fulani man that there are still Christians in Nigeria. And they have been working towards the eradication of Christians in Nigeria, starting from Northern Nigeria. The coming of Muhammadu Buhari into power became the greatest upliftment for the Jihadists. The same ignorant intellectuals were used to bring the Islamic sadist into power. Rev Father Mbaka, a Catholic Priest and some other pentecostal men of God like Adebayo, all supported the Islamic fundamentalist. Institute judicial panel on Enugu killings, Abaribe tells Ugwuanyi.
The Senate Minority Leader, Enyinnaya Abaribe, on Tuesday, condemned the alleged killings of Igbo youths in Emene, Enugu State, last Sunday, by some security operatives. He said the killings of the Igbo have given room to wide suspicion of a sinister motive. He also warned that the labelling of every Igbo group as terrorists and the incessant killings of their youths by the security operatives has become one too many and is no longer acceptable to his people. Abaribe stated this in a statement issued in Abuja by his Media Adviser, Uchenna Awom, titled ‘Abaribe condemns Igbo youths’ killings in Enugu’. He demanded the setting up of a judicial panel of Inquiry by the Governor of Enugu State, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi. The judicial panel, according to Abaribe, would help to unravel the truth in the assertions of both the security and other groups on what really happened . The senator noted that it was “disheartening that security operatives seem to derive pleasure at any slight whim to unleash mayhem, using the most lethal weapons against unarmed Igbo youths at every turn.” “Such unsavoury, brutal and hateful resort to extreme repression, demean Nigeria’s democratic ethos and even question her unity,” he said. Part of the statement read, “We are in a democracy where every agency of government, particularly the security apparatchik must adhere strictly to rules of engagement with regards to dealings with the civil populace in such a manner that will be in conformity with international best practices. “The last time I checked, Nigerians still enjoy the freedom to associate freely. Nobody has told us that the Igbo youths meeting last Sunday was a gathering meant to launch an attack on anybody. “Who will they attack and for what? What informed the police and DSS deployment to the venue of the meeting? “Incontrovertible reports suggest very strongly that the killings were ignited when the security operatives stormed the venue of that peaceful meeting, not that the youths marched to anywhere to attack anybody. “These are the issues that should be addressed at the panel,” Abaribe said. The Minority Leader further said it was most worrisome that the people would no longer gather peacefully in their own country without being dispersed forcefully or be branded terrorists for no just cause. The lawmaker said he would not want to believe that the wide card labeling of every Igbo youth group as terrorists is a cover to achieve a predetermined plot. He said, “Let it not be that we now have an army of occupation in South East, working clandestinely to create fears and state of anomie in a region that has remained perhaps the most peaceful in the country.” He, however, advised the youths to remain calm and not to resort to any form of reprisals, or succumb to provocations that could tempt them to take laws into their own hands. “We await the official reaction of the Enugu State governor on the matter,” he concluded.
IPOB, Police clash: Why didn’t Police invite Army, Air Force over killer-herdsmen, Ohanaeze scribe asks
Mr. Uche Achi-Okpagha, Acting Secretary-General and National Publicity Secretary of apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has wondered why the state Commissioner of Police did not invite the Army, Air Force and other security agents over killer-herdsmen on rampage in the South-East, but did so when members of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Were Holding A Peaceful Meeting At Emene, Enugu State. In a statement in Abakaliki, capital of Ebonyi State, Achi-Okpagha wondered why the security agencies will unleash such mayhem on members of a peaceful group. Okpagha, who is also the National Publicity Secretary of Ohanaeze, called on the Inspector-General of Police to order a full-scale investigation into the incident. He said: “Ohanaeze has kept a studied silence on the issue. In my personal opinion, I heard the Commissioner of Police, Enugu State, on the radio saying he contacted the Army and the Air Force and I pitied myself and my people. “Don’t we have rules of engagement in Nigeria again? How can you be unleashing such an extra-maximum form on civilians? “Note that they were not seen on the road or streets disturbing the peace of the environment. “How many times has he invited the Army and Air Force to the bushes in Enugu State where our people are killed, maimed, women and daughters raped by killer-herdsmen or bandits as you may have it? “How many times did he invite them to our farms and villages being pulverised by these miscreants? “In the peak of the coronavirus pandemic, when truckloads of people from the North were coming into Enugu, did he invite the Army and the Air Force to stop them? “It were better that he did not make any statement at all. I urge the IGP to order a full-scale investigation into the matter, where, in the guise of maintaining peace, a lot of budding young men were gunned down by the combined security forces. “What kind of peace was achieved in the whole exercise? Even if they were IPOB members, I have never heard of them attacking anybody in Enugu. “It is completely unfortunate as it is unfair to unleash such force on civilians who were without guns. “This is democracy for crying out loud. The duty of the police is to arrest and prosecute not to kill. “I watched a viral video of the Shi’ites (also said to be proscribed) in Abuja addressing and attacking the person and integrity of the President in the full glare of the Police,” the Ohanaeze scribe added over the attack on IPOB members.
The Movement for Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) has described the clash between the combined security forces of Nigeria and the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, at Emena in Enugu State, as systematic killings of the Igbo people. The clash was reported to have left some members of the IPOB dead after they were shot by the security agents. MASSOB spoke in Owerri, through their leader, Uchenna Madu, adding that the Igbo leaders should rise and stop further shedding of innocent blood of young people in the Igbo land. According to MASSOB, “The leadership of the Movement for the Actualization of the African Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) roundly condemned the unwarranted and callous killings of IPOB members in Enugu on Sunday. “It is the worst barbaric and primitive reactionary measure of combine security agents of Nigeria against the perceived enemies of President Mohammadu Buhari’s kinsmen called the Fulanis. “The loosed venom of pathological hatred by this present administration against Ndigbo and Christians in general on Sunday in Enugu further proved our earlier revealed conspiracies plot to backward the political emancipation of Ndigbo in Nigeria.” MASSOB said it was worried that “It is a well-known fact that all pro-Biafra agitators including MASSOB, IPOB, EPC, BNYL, BIM, MOBIN etc are non-violence and armless groups. It is also on records that none of these groups has indulged in acts of terrorism, violence or killings. “Why should the Nigerian Fulani led police embark on a deceitful mission of blackmailing the armless and non-violence members of IPOB that they were engaged in firing spree with the agents of DSS that led to the combined team of Nigeria armed security forces to heavily descend on them in a warlike on their meeting at Emene, Enugu on Sunday which resulted on the death of innocent and defenceless citizens of Biafra.” It was their view that “What happened in Enugu on Sunday between IPOB and combined security forces of Nigeria was not a clash or a confrontation but a systematic plotted act of terrorism, hatched and orchestrated by the presidency to inflict a demonized fear that will succumb and demoralize the surging rise, clamour and support for Biafra and Nigeria president of Igbo extraction. “They fronted the DSS to provoke the armless members of IPOB to an assault but IPOB members declined to fall into their trap, but because it was a designed mission that must be accomplished, the DSS opened fire on defenceless citizens, the police, army and Air Force immediately joined them in the brutality of IPOB members and terrorizing the inhabitants of Enugu city. “MASSOB draws the attention of Igbo political leaders irrespective of their political party or affiliation that they are the main target of this latest assault. “It is against the political emancipation of Ndigbo in Nigeria they seem to lead, it is about 2023 general election. “It is all about wounding the morale of Igbo socio-political leaders. It is about creating fears into the populace of Ndigbo towards 2023. “Ndigbo must rise now in defence of our fatherland. An injustice to an Igbo person is injustices against all Igbos irrespective of political differences.” He maintained that; “The presidency is using Pro Biafra agitators as their testing ground of wounding and inflicting injurious blow that will demoralize the chances of Igbo political emancipation in 2023. “They knew that pro-Biafra agitators are heavy factors to be reckoned with in 2023 towards Igbo political emancipation. MASSOB reiterated our earlier resolved decision that no amount of treacherous and subtle clampdown, attacks, killings, arrest, mesmerization, prosecution by the way Nigeria state will deter us from the Biafra actualization and restoration struggle.”
Angry reactions have started trailing the reported killing of members of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, in Enugu.
All the respondents, who spoke to Vanguard in Owerri, were unanimous in their belief that the dead were first Ndigbo before being members of IPOB. They also described the incident as “senseless and condemnable, especially as IPOB members are usually unarmed”. Reacting, an Owerri based legal practitioner, Mr Aloy Ejimakor, said the wrong branding of the dead was deceptive and a diversionary tactic to simply write off the dead as IPOB members, instead of Ndigbo. His words: “Forget IPOB. They are Ndigbo. It is completely deceptive and a diversionary tactic to simply write off the dead as IPOB members, instead of Ndigbo. Whoever takes the life of an IPOB member is taking the life of an Igbo and therefore will ultimately account to Ndigbo.” According to the lawyer, “when I read about the senseless killing of unarmed innocents, who gathered in Enugu on August 23, 2020, in peaceable exercise of their constitutional rights, I quickly began to search the news to learn more and I learnt plenty, including particularly, the somewhat dismissive refrain that those killed are just IPOB members.” While arguing that they might be IPOB members, Ejimakor, however, said: “Everybody in the former Eastern Nigeria, who disagrees with what has become Nigeria, is an IPOB member, overtly or covertly”. “They don’t have to carry a registration card for you to be certain that they are IPOB members. All you need to do is to talk with them to convince yourself that they are IPOB members. “An IPOB member is simply any Eastern Nigerian, especially the Igbo, who will rather have Biafra than a Nigeria that eats her children, especially her Igbo children. And they are in the millions. “They are legion. Some are above ground. Some are in sleeper cells and they are not miscreants. They are the Igbo gentry, the elites, the masses, warts and all. “The Igbo remains an Igbo for now and forever, alive or dead. Nobody can change that. No subliminal narrative of just IPOB can change that.” Another IPOB loyalist, who simply identified himself as Chikerem, urged the security agencies to “stop branding people IPOB when they know that the killing and maiming unarmed Ndigbo”. Chikerem also reasoned that those killed were Ndigbo before becoming IPOB members, adding that “it beats my imagination why the Nigerian government has disdain for Ndigbo, but relentlessly want to keep us in Nigeria”. Answering a question, Chikerem said that there was no way anybody can detach IPOB members from Ndigbo, who are not terrorists but are treated and branded as such. For Nkemdiri Osukaku, “Igbo life is precious, inalienable and the blood of an IPOB member is not less precious than that of any other Igbo man or woman”. He appealed to the security agencies to face the dreaded Boko Haram, ISWAP and other deadly insurgents that are terrorizing the citizenry, instead of running after unarmed agitators of a free Biafra.

The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, on Thursday, called on security operatives to immediately stop harassing and arresting its members in the Southeast.
IPOB made the call in reaction to the arrest of its Coordinator in Ebonyi State and the alleged intimidation of an innocent woman in Oji River Local Government Area of Enugu State.
A statement by IPOB’s spokesman, Emma Powerful urged the Governor of Ebonyi State and his counterpart in the Southeast to order the release of its members across the region.
The statement titled: “Enough is Enough, reads: We the global family of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) ably led by our great leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, hereby demand immediate stoppage of the incessant harassment and arrest of IPOB family members in different parts of Biafraland.
“We are particularly upset by the recent arrest of IPOB Coordinator in Ebonyi State; and the intimidation of an innocent woman in Oji River LGA of Enugu State by security operatives under the guise of searching for Radio Biafra station. This continued illegal abduction and kidnapping of innocent people in our land must stop. The Nigeria government and her security operatives should stop testing our will.
“We want to place the world on notice that the Nigeria Police Force, Army and DSS once again have started their normal house to house search of IPOB family members and those suspected to be IPOB supporters in Biafraland. On 18th of August 2020, the Nigeria army and police in their usual gestapo manner, akin to the Nazi era in Europe, abducted Mazi Igwe Ogbonnaya our IPOB Ebonyi State Coordinator for no crime other than being a Biafran.
“This provocative hounding of our people has continued amid killings, maiming and raping of our women by rampaging Fulani herdsmen in our communities which the same security agencies have not only pampered but allowed to continue unabated.
“It’s very sad to note that the security operatives abducted Mazi Igwe Ogbonnaya in less than a week after burying his young wife who died after a brief illness. This young man was abducted from his home at Ugwulangwu Ohaozara LGA Ebonyi State by terrorists in Nigeria police, army and DSS uniforms.

By Douglas Anele It is as clear as daylight that so-called Nigerian leaders have failed to create a viable nation since the end of British colonisation. As a result, the country has staggered haphazardly from one incompetent government to another dominated by northern Fulani with the support of lackeys from other parts of the country. British colonial administration put Nigeria on the path of diminishing leadership potential or capability when it mischievously handed power at the federal level to a scion of the caliphate whose merit-destroying northernisation programme set the stage for mediocrity and quota system that have been crippling the country since 1960. The late icon of African literature, Prof. Chinua Achebe, put his finger squarely on this aspect of decadent Nigerian leadership when he wrote: “Nations enshrine mediocrity as their modus operandi, and create the fertile ground for the rise of tyrants and other base elements of the society by silently assenting to the dismantling of systems of excellence because they do not immediately benefit one specific ethnic, racial, political or special-interest group.” No one in his right senses would question the correctness of Prof. Achebe’s diagnosis of the main trouble with Nigeria, and why calls for restructuring, confederation or peaceful dismemberment remains a recurrent theme in this country. A major reason that justifies the quest for the re-emergence or resurrection of Biafra is the immoral transactional origin of Nigeria as a single geographical entity coupled with the lopsided geopolitical architectonic created by Britain which unduly favoured the north – an indication that statements such as “Nigeria’s unity is sacrosanct,” “Nigerian unity is non-negotiable,” “To keep Nigeria one is a task that must be done” and so on are either false, extremely misleading, or manifestation of jarring ignorance about Nigerian history. Objectively considered, there is absolutely nothing sacrosanct about the country: those who think otherwise or invoke the divine or supernatural to endorse what is essentially a big mistake by British imperialists are either stupid or pigs in our version of the animal farm called “Niger area.” The emergence of Nigeria can be traced to the Berlin conference of 1884-1885 when European powers partitioned Africa into colonies or “spheres of influence” without the consent of, or input from, indigenous peoples. Such imposition of artificial nations and boundaries with impunity exemplifies the deep-seated contempt Europeans have for black people. Before the conference, the Royal Niger Company (RNC) headed by George Tubman Goldie controlled the lucrative trade in the Oil Rivers that eventually became southern Nigeria. To ward off competition from other European countries such as France and Germany, the British government revoked RNC’s charter on December 31, 1899 and paid the company 865,000 pounds as compensation, thus cementing the transfer of control to the British Crown proper. After years of conquest and deceit, Lord Lugard extended British rule to the areas named “Nigeria” by his wife, Flora Shaw. Details of how Lugard and a small contingent of soldiers with Maxim guns subdued autochthonous communities seriatim, which would make any reasonable Nigerian think twice about One Nigeria, have been presented in many well-written books on Nigerian history. The crucial point to note at this juncture is that Lugard’s amalgamation of the northern and southern protectorates on January 1, 1914, is the most important event in Nigerian history. But why did he do it? Answer: because Britain wanted to shift the financial cost or burden of running northern Nigeria from her treasury to the south which had consistently demonstrated its economic viability through lucrative commerce and industry. Again, a unified administrative framework was more convenient and in tandem with British intention of maximum exploitation of the human and material resources in the colonial contraption. However, in creating Nigeria Lugard and his cohorts ignored or underestimated the potential for instability due to the multiply plural nature of their new creation. The foundation could not carry the load placed on it, which caused the edifice to collapse about six years after independence. This pachydermatous tendency and insularity to inconvenient facts was even more evident in the responses of British officials to the north’s persistent rejection of closer integration with the south. For instance, during the constitutional conference held in 1953, northern Nigeria advocated a constitutional “structure which would give the regions the greatest possible freedom of movement and action; a structure which would reduce the powers of the Centre to the absolute minimum.” Incidentally, what the north demanded was remarkably similar to the main thrust of the Aburi Accord that Lt. Col. Yakubu Gowon refused to implement fourteen years later in 1967. Moreover, after Alhaji Tafawa Balewa became Prime Minister, the dominant faction of the northern ruling elite changed its position and started insisting on a highly centralised union. In order to maximise the advantages of existing emirate system British officials created an unbalanced geopolitical structure which gave rise to the myth of a monolithic northern Nigeria that occupies over two-thirds of the country’s landmass much bigger than the eastern and western regions combined. And because northern political leaders often used the threat of secession to get concessions from colonial administrators and from their southern counterparts passionate about a unified Nigeria, the north actually got more than half the seats in the post-independent parliament. Evidently, the tripod created by Britain was flawed: the regional parties that emerged therefrom ensured, as Max Siollun wryly puts it, “that ethnic conflict was only a matter of time away.” On the one hand, colonial administrators wanted the north to control Nigeria since the traditional ultraconservative system there was more amenable and congenial to manipulation even after independence might have been achieved. But southerners, especially the Igbo, were rebellious; they led the nationalist movements that gained momentum in the 1930s and 40s. The main reason why Sir James Robertson did not give the post of Prime Minister to the more qualified Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe whose party came first in the 1959 general elections but opted for Alhaji Tafawa Balewa instead was because the British hated the “uppity” Igbo for uncompromisingly rejecting British colonisation and their relentless battles against it. Additionally, Ndigbo are republican, highly competitive and assertive, attributes that are quite different from the unquestioning submissiveness of typical northerners to their emirs. Of course, the British and their northern “friends” would not have succeeded without the acquiescence of some leading southern political figures. From the foregoing, it can be deduced that Nigeria was not founded by the British as a result of genuine desire or altruistic moral inclination to create a great black nation whose achievements could potentially refute conclusively the white supremacist argument that black people are inferior to the white race. Rather, she was created mainly to cater for Britain’s economic interests. To be continued…

Nigeria Guardian Newspaper is now throwing critical analysis of the body double in Aso Rock. Some pictures of President Buhari with questionable different ears were published by Guardian Newspapers to ascertain the true identity of the person occupying Nigeria highest seat of power.
Mazi Nnamdi Kanu since 2017 has continued to raise alerm that Buhari is dead and Buried in Saudi Arabia, he stated that the current person parading himself as President Buhari is an impostor. He provided pictorial and video evidences to establish his argument. Meanwhile, his arguments have thrown Nigeria the giant of Africa off balance, many questions have been raised concerning this unchanged and unrefuted allegations. Pundits are asking questions, if the allegations made by Nnamdi Kanu were false, what stops the family of the President, Nigeria government or any other Nigerian organization from approaching Bristish court to press legal defamatory charges against Nnamdi Kanu the IPOB leader.
