Beautyaddy:

There is no need to scare people away from going to the US legally on a visiting or student visas.

After their three months legal stay in the US they can get an American to fall in love, marry and then can change their temporary status to permanent status via adjustment of status to obtain a green card. Unfortunately this is one of the weak US immigration loopholes that most visiting and student immigrants have used and are still using.
... Hmmm! Presently, you can not change your status as it is if you came in on B1-B2 Visa. That era has gone for now, take it or leave it. Even now, no extension again and no more students visa like before. I live in Bay area, California I am saying the real truth of what is going on for now!

Politics / Re: Ekiti Poll: Tribunal Grants APC Order To Inspect Election Materials by Jacko1970: 6:17pm On Aug 06, 2018
Ekiti360:
The Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Ado Ekiti on Monday granted the prayers of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to inspect election materials and results of the July 14 governorship election in the state.

The APC was represented at the tribunal by Yomi Ariyo, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, who led six other counsel.

Justice Suleiman Belgore, while granting the prayers gave reasons for granting the application which was filed on July 31.

He said the counsel had sought the order of the court to access the election materials in order to make photocopy of the documents of the election materials and to use forensic equipment to view the handwriting of the election result and the fingerprint of the election materials.

The request, he also said, was to obtain and photocopy all the election materials which were also in custody of the first respondent, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

He added that the request was to seek forensic experts to access both machine and other materials used in the conduct of the election.

The tribunal chairman granted the application, saying this was also approved for the PDP.

Kikiotolu reports that APC candidate, Dr Kayode Fayemi, was declared the winner of the election by the Chief Returning Officer, Prof. Idowu Olayinka, after securing 197,459 votes.

The PDP candidate and current Deputy Governor, Prof. Kolapo Olusola, scored 178,121 votes.

Why APC is asking to check the election materials and results? They should have waited for the judgment to be deliver by the tribunal if truly they are very sure of their victory!

Politics / Re: Osun PDP Primary: Table Your Grievances Before Appeal Committee ―S/W PDP by Jacko1970: 7:27pm On Jul 23, 2018
Bilaludeen:

National Vice Chairman of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) South-West, Dr. Eddy Olafeso

THE National Vice Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) South West zone, Dr Eddy Olafeso, on Monday, advised the runner-up in the last Saturday governorship primary election in Osun state, Dr Akin Ogunbiyi, to table his grievances before the party’s Appeal Committee set up by the National Secretariat.

Olafeso who stated this in Akure, Ondo State capital, warned members of the party against dividing the House against itself and appealed to the party members in Osun state to stand as one and be united in order to achieve electoral victory at the end of the day.

He assured that the Appeal Committee headed by the National Chairman, Prince Uche Secondus would look into all the grievances of Ogunbiyi and address them objectively.

Olafeso however, congratulated the winner of the governorship primary, Senator Ademola Adeleke, calling on him to extend hands of fellowship to his co-contestants and work with them towards ensuring victory for the party in the governorship election slated for September.

He specifically pleaded with the National leadership of the party to assuage the grievances of Ogunbiyi so as not to create enmity among party members in the state.

He said “the winner has a lot to bring people together. We will not like winner takes all mentality. Winning governorship primary is a different game from winning the actual election. Everybody must be brought on board before the campaigns start”.

Olafeso who advised Ogunbiyi to pursue his grievances at the Appeal Panel also warned him against destructive tendencies that may cause division within the party and deprive the party of the governorship seat.

“Dr Ogunbiyi has proved that he is a force to be reckoned with in PDP and Osun State’s politics. He is not the type of person that can be overlooked in the scheme of things in the state politics

“Ogunbiyi has shown exemplary qualities in the party and contributed immensely to the development of PDP in the state.

“Akin Ogunbiyi is not a loser, the election was 50-50; he has been active in the party and his influence is enormous. Nothing can be done in Osun without taking Akin into consideration,”

“But he should remember that the party’s interest should be protected in the pursuit of grievances at the Appeal Panel.

“With the result of the party’s primary, Ogunbiyi has proven he is a critical stakeholder in the politics of the PDP.,” he said.http://surecontents..com/2018/07/osun-pdp-primary-table-your-grievances.html
Well said! But the party at the national level must talk senses to the so called leaders in Osun PDP not to jeopardize the chance of the party in winning the election with their glutton ideas they always perpetrated which sent Senator Iyiola Omisore out of the party!

Politics of immaturity at play here. When Fayemi lost and handed power to Fayose, the house which had Fayemi's men in majority then, did not play this childish game.

When Fayose rode into town wearing a bulletproof, accompanied by the PDP led Federal Might, with hundreds of soldiers and policemen to wrest power from Fayemi, it was okay then right?

The next step is to vote all these members out in the next election. Thank you Ekiti State for making the right choice by voting Fayemi in as your Governor. Did you just agreed that everything was right about the election
Politics / Re: Fighting Factors: Why PDP Lost Ekiti To APC by Jacko1970: 2:16pm On Jul 17, 2018
EntertainingYou:
By Rwang Patrick Stephen

The 2018 Ekiti state gubernatorial election has traveled every which way. To be sure, the nascent democracy of Nigeria is flourishing. Our blossoming democratic journey is developing without question.
The event in Ekiti state has made thinkers, observers and watchers of politics, both at local, translocal, national and international levels to begin to ask the hallowed question of: “what went wrong in the PDP moving retrogressively backwards from 16/0 in 2014 to about 12/4 in favor of the APC in a state that was known as a ‘broomless’ state in 2014?”
For now, Ekiti is the only state in the southwest that is controlled by the PDP as well as the only state won by the PDP presidential candidate in 2015, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan.

The event calls for concern indeed. Like the legendary saying or maxim goes; “How are the mighty fallen? Gold has rust in Ekiti, what then would iron do?”
Some will argue that the Presidency played a role and the military and police were pro-APC. That fact and was applicable to the PDP victory in 2014 elections, where the state was said to have been militarized. But we mustn’t rely on the same baseless emotional attachment to sentiments. Money was used, as a core factor, and both parties played the money politics definitely.
The victory of Dr kayode Fayemi has been described as a hard fought battle by the presidency. That is true indeed.

CHALLENGES OF THE PDP THAT LED TO THEIR DOWNFALL IN EKITI STATE

1. IMPOSITION OF CANDIDATE: It was very clear, loud, and strong in the state the governor imposed his deputy against the wishes of so many members of the PDP. There were reactions, but Governor Fayose used his executive power to silence them. Some of the party members decamped or cross-carpeted to the APC. Some honourable members too did same. How then did you expect the PDP to come out victorious?
If the PDP had remained united and unanimously chose their candidate without any imposition, they would have come out victorious in the election. A house divided against itself shall fallout.

2. LACK OF PAYMENT OF SALARY TO CIVIL SERVANTS IN THE STATE:
There is a concept in Ekiti state known as ‘Stomach Infrastructure’. This is a nomenclature posed by the Fayose regime. No one is arguing about the authenticity of the stomach project, but paying the people their monthly salaries is very necessary. People are becoming wiser by the day. Any form of stomach analysis without bank alert to the workers ends in failure. The PDP missed it here, the same thing happened in plateau state. The government owed civil servants about six (6) months salaries into the 2015 elections, and they lost because of the owing factor.

3. DISCONNECTION FROM THE PRESUMED GRASSROOTS CONNECTION OF THE PDP: Governor Fayose has over the years been bragging about his grassroots connection. Let be clear on this point, it is very easy for the governor to gather youths in the Ado Ekiti metropolis to walk with him. It is another thing for him to have huge acceptability in all the remaining sixteen (16) local government areas. If truly he controls the grassroots as acclaimed, why didn’t they deliver his party in the just concluded elections? There was an election in Anambra state and the governor won the election because of his massive link to the people at the grassroots. Gov Ayo Fayose says things that never exist. In all ramifications, he lacks that grassroots connection in totality.

4. PRESUMPTUOUS PROPAGANDA: It was very worrisome to note that while Dr Fayemi was busy working hard to victory, the PDP camp were busy looking for propaganda to sell in other to gather or get sympathy. In politics, one thing is sure, number. Instead of gathering the taxi drivers and motorcycle riders in Ado Ekiti by the governor, he would have been busy in one of the local government that day mobilizing and campaigning for PDP. Another off strategy of the PDP was the police incidents teargas. Instead of the victory walk, he should have gone to an interior local government to campaign. Insulting the president was another mistake that was unnecessary.
The PDP in Ekiti failed to work. Rather was basing on propaganda to lure in the international community for possible intervention. That’s not good and correct at all.

5. WEAKNESS OF THE PDP CANDIDATE OR WEAK MOBILIZATION OF THE PDP CANDIDATE: While the APC candidate was busy working for his victory, the PDP candidate was just in government house receiving instructions and allowed his boss to do the work for him. He was not showing any meaningful seriousness to the people of the state on his capability and agility to lead. He forgot that his boss is not going to be the governor but him. There was a disconnect between him and the people. All what Ekiti people sees was Fayose. It is not Fayose they want to hear or see buy the governorship candidate. He never acted on his own to show the people his ability, he depended on the popularity of the governor. That’s not correct.

STRENGTH OF THE APC
1. Identification of PDP weakness: The APC maximized the loopholes discovered in the PDP. They took advantage of the weakness of the PDP candidate. They heard what they people said about his inability to represent himself. It worked for them, congratulations.

2. Blocking of PDP strongholds: The governor-elect did his homework very well. He lost to the PDP in 2014 and decided to study and understudy the system again. He knew the strength point of the PDP in the state and decides to block them from area of strength.
He also knew the local government areas he was popular in and build the bond there solidly.
The PDP failed to do this. They were busy doing mouth work while Fayemi was working.

3. Past experience knowledge: It is said “once beating twelve shy” the governor elect knew how it feels to lose. He vowed to work hard and avenge the disgrace while the PDP was busy sleeping on past glories of 2014. Experience worked and aided the victory of APC. Inexperience worked against the PDP. Lesson for all to learn from.

4. Military and police: it is arguably to say that same thing was done in 2014. Both parties are guilty of this. So the APC claimed they are doing something the PDP did while in power. Onlookers and observers described the APC use of military as worse. But the military and police has declined colliding with APC. They have said time and again that they are apolitical.
If the PDP did it home work correctly, they would have won. Many states have succeeded in past despite military presence.
As a political scientist, we look into the polity with our political microscope and political eyeglasses, to think deeply into the political jamboree and rigmarole in the state. We look beyond propaganda and political correctness. We investigate happenings to proffer solutions.

As discussed above. Other states governors are advised not to repeat the mistake make in Ekiti state. The fact that you are a seating governor doesn’t mean you can’t be unseat.
Political gladiators and leviathans must learn to work for themselves, not allowing others to work for them. Ekiti state has been described as an uncommon state of surprises. The PDP needs to seat up in the forthcoming Osun election. If the learn from the Ekiti mistake, they may come out victorious. Security maybe much but only the strong would survive the political drill.
APC is a ruling party, but the hard work of the governor-elect spoke for him. This victory is about grazing reserve, cattle colony or ranches, rather it is about the people of Ekiti.

Rwang Patrick Stephen, Political Science department, Federal University of Kashere, Gombe State.
Truly, the imposition factor can not be ruled out. But the police inducement was the real factor! What can we say about federal government gave #50k, to the rank of cpl/Sgt and #120k-#250k to supol and above for the over 30 thousand deployed to Ekiti for the election

Politics / Re: Presidency Releases ‘checklist’ On Killings Under PDP by Jacko1970: 6:39pm On Jun 28, 2018
nwakibie3:
THE Presidency has accused the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of shedding crocodile tears by declaring a mourning period for people killed in Plateau state, saying that even though more people were killed under the former ruling party, it never declared a mourning period.

A statement issued by Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, in Abuja on Thursday, gave a list of killings under PDP which it said the party never mourned.

The statement said that it was sad and unfortunate killings in Plateau state over the weekend have been turned to an opportunity to once again play irresponsible politics, particularly by the PDP.

The PDP had on Wednesday declared seven days of mourning during which it said flags in its office will fly at half mast.

The presidency stated: “These are dolorous times that call for deep introspection on how cheap human lives have become, and the proffering of actionable ideas on how to get out of the bind. But the PDP would rather dance on the graves of the dead, playing cheap, infantile politics.

“The comatose and prostrate party is declaring seven days of mourning, during which flags in its offices would be flown at half-mast nationwide. But unknown to the party, those flags had been forcefully lowered since its 2015 loss at the polls and may remain so for a long time to come, because Nigerians are politically discerning, and cannot be hoodwinked by cheap antics.

“A quick checklist of some savage and brutal killings in Nigeria during PDP rule, between 1999 and 2015, for which no national mourning was declared:

“November 20, 1999. Odi, in Bayelsa State, was invaded on orders of a PDP President. About 2,500 people killed. No national mourning.

“Between February and May 2000, about 5,000 people were killed during riots over Sharia law in different parts of the North. No national mourning.

“In 2001, hundreds of people, including the old, infirm, women and children were killed in Zaki Biam. No crocodile tears.

“Between September 7-12, 2001, Jos, Plateau State, erupted in internecine killings. Between 500 and 1,000 people were killed. Flags were not flown at half mast.

“In February 2004, at least 975 people were killed in Yelwa-Shendam, Plateau State. No mourning by the then ruling PDP.

“Between November 28 and 29, 2008, Jos was in flames again, with 381 deaths. No mourning.

“In 2010, 992 people killed in Jos. Mum was the word.

“In 2014 alone, according to Global Terrorism Index, at least 1,229 people were killed in the Middle Belt. No mourning.

“Boko Haram killings in PDP years were over 10,000. PDP flags were still fluttering proudly in the sky.

“Those who take pleasure in twisting statements from the Presidency may claim we are saying that many more people were killed under PDP than under President Muhammadu Buhari. It would be unconscionable to do so. The intendment of this statement is to show that wanton killings had been with us for awhile; this government is working towards enduring solutions; and should be given the opportunity to do so.

“Even a single soul is precious, and no man should take a life, which he cannot create. But when tragic situations as had happened in Plateau State occur, such should never be used to play crude politics. Those who are wont to do so should have change of hearts, or lose their very humanity.”

This is crazy by this APC and Buhari government. Nigerians are asking them to stop this barbarically killings all what to says was that about killings that happened during the PDP government. What for

Politics / Re: Corruption: EFCC Moves Against Odili, Others by Jacko1970: 9:48am On Dec 17, 2015
robosky02:
ABUJA—The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, is set to reopen the trial of high profile politicians whose corruption cases had either been delayed or put in abeyance as a result of court injunctions.

A top management officer of the EFCC told Vanguard, yesterday, that the commission under the leadership of acting chairman, Ibrahim Magu, was bent on reopening all the corruption cases involving top politicians, who were shielded by the court through perpetual injunctions that had temporarily tied the hands of the commission from prosecuting them.

Odili
Top on the list of those whose cases are to be reopened, is former Rivers State Governor, Dr. Peter Odili, who secured a perpetual injunction from a Federal judge barring the EFCC from investigating his eight-year tenure over alleged graft.

Justice Ibrahim Buba had granted a perpetual injunction restraining the EFCC from probing graft allegations its operatives levelled against the former governor.

The commission, however, filed an appeal against the ruling, which was described as strange by legal pundits. But the appeal has not made progress since it was instituted over four years ago.

However, the top EFCC operative vowed in an interview with Vanguard that all stumbling blocks to reopening the cases and similar ones would be removed by the Magu administration at EFCC with a view to bringing the former governor to book.

The top operative said that the new Criminal Justice Administration Act of 2015 has removed the stumbling blocks to prosecuting those who looted the nation’s treasury.

The senior management official of the commission said: “Let it be made clear that the EFCC will go after all cases that are deserving of investigation. There is nothing like perpetual injunctions anymore in our criminal administration justice code.

“We have a duty to investigate all cases since we are empowered by the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to investigate all such corruption-related cases and that is what we are asked to do.

“We are empowered by Section 15 of the new Criminal Justice Administration Act to investigate all cases irrespective of injunctions. We cannot be stopped,” the official said.

The source confirmed that top officials in the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan, who abused their office by fritting away huge national cash and assets would be summoned to clear the air on why they breached public trust.

Among those slated for questioning are former Minister of Finance & Coordinating Minister of the Economy in the last Administration, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala and some former officials of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, who handled the disbursement of funds to the Office of the National Security Adviser, ONSA.

Asked when the officials would be summoned, the official said no date had yet been fixed, adding, “I will find out and get back to you.”

In the meantime, the EFCC Chairman, Mr. Ibrahim Magu, has established a Procurement Fraud Unit, PFU, to strengthen the fight against corruption in the country.

The Head of Media and Publicity of the EFCC, Mr. Wilson Uwujaren, said in a statement to Vanguard, last night, that Magu made the disclosure in Abuja yesterday during a meeting with leaders of a coalition of civil society organisations.

Uwujaren said that Magu expressed concern over the increasing rate of procurement fraud and told his guests that the PFU would contribute immensely to the anti-corruption battle when it became operational.

“I am so concerned about procurement fraud. I am thinking of establishing a unit dedicated to procurement fraud. When put in place, it will go a long way in checking corruption,” Magu said.
