Webmasters › 10 Non-financial Reasons Why Tech Startups Can Fail In 2019. by Jacktheripper(op): 1:05am On Jan 03, 2019
It is almost impossible for tech startups not to make conspicuous mistakes which can be of detriment to the intending company. Beyond the stereotype of getting funding and other challenges that startups face, we highlight the non-financial mistakes that can bring a startup to a premature doom.

https://cdn.pixabay.com/photo/2015/01/08/18/29/entrepreneur-593358__340.jpg

1) Going On A Lone Journey:

Some entrepreneurs are so in love with themselves (narcissistic) that they insist on answering every question and making every decision. That’s not only impossible but also counterproductive. Effective entrepreneurs team with or employ people who can provide the answers directly, pertinent to their particular area of expertise.

Building a powerful business will be very difficult if you are the only one involved. Of course, the cost of hiring even one administrative assistant, sales representative or entry-level employee can be very intimidating and hair-raising due to fear of taking up a large chunk of your profits. The solution: Ensure there's sufficient margin in your budget to allow you to get other individuals.

2) Failure To Plan Before Executing:

Many startups don't deem it fit to carry out proper planning. Having a plan for plan's sake is a fast lane to doom, understanding the value of and need for a strategic plan is a great place to start, but just wanting something, isn’t enough. If it were, we’d all be famous actors in Hollywood. Developing a strategic plan takes discipline, foresight, and a lot of honesty.

3) Hiring The Wrong Set Of People:

Hiring people you know instead of the right person for the job can cost you a lot in the long run. When you hire the wrong person, you'll likely find yourself looking for ways to reassign the employee or working tirelessly to fit him or her into the organization in some way. Rather than simply letting the employee go, you’ll owe it to him or her to spend time and money on training and ongoing performance review. Eventually, he or she may become an adequate employee for your business, but there’s also a chance that he or she won't work out.

4)Creating Something Nobody Wants:

This is the greatest mistake a startup can make, more often than not, tech startups fail to design user experience, try product thinking to discern whether the experience is worth using. “Customers don’t care how much time something takes to build. They care only if it serves their needs.” ―Eric Ries. The key to overcoming this obstacle is doing your research first, knowing your market, your competitors and understanding your customers. The very first step that cannot be skipped in any business is to study the PMF (product-market fit) and see if the business would be feasible or not. This is not charity, this is business.

5) Lack Of Focus:

Most people need to realize that focusing on short-term objectives at the expense of long-term success can cause the failure of such a startup. A short-term focused strategy is like running with your head down and your sight on just a couple of meters in front of you. You might run fast and watch out where you step but you don’t know where you are going and what the road will bring.

6) Founding a Startup With People Less Passionate Than Yourself:

When you are willing to put every dollar and sweat you have towards a startup, make sure the co-founders are willing too. If not, that will apparently cause the failure of the startup. And when those problems did inevitably arise, not dealing with them rapidly enough will surely end your dream of building a company. One of the most important aspects of being a successful entrepreneur is surrounding yourself with people smarter than you. Don’t let your ego get in the way.

7) Choosing the wrong location:

The success of any business is about 40% determined by its location. A startup location strategy should conform with, and be part of, its overall corporate strategy. Some of the basic requirements a company must consider are; Size, Traffic, Total cost, Population, infrastructure, and labour. A startup that is located in a favourable location will benefit from the exposure and foot traffic of other neighbourhood businesses.

cool Considering A Start-up As Merely A Way To Make Money:

Allow me to refresh your memory about one of Henry Ford's quotes "A business that makes nothing but money is a poor business." Often times tech startups tend to focus more on making money which is, of course, not a terrible idea but here is where priority needs to be set, a startup must create useful service or a product, it must have a mission that is understandable to the target audience and your employees. An inspiring vision is what distinguishes a successful startup from another money-making tool.

9) Lack Of Patience:

In order to build a successful startup, you have to hustle and be somewhat of a hard-charger. According to Chris Myers, Co-Founder & CEO of BodeTree, a financial management solution for organizations that serve small business, avoid the “ready, fire, aim” syndrome as a startup. This “ready, aim, fire” syndrome is all too common among tech startups, and while sometimes it leads to rapid iteration and growth, more often than not it results in problems. Patience is like any other hard-earned discipline: The more we practice it, the more patient we become.

10) Asking Too Many People For Advice:

The problem here is not getting bad advice but it’s that asking too many different people for their takes in the vain hope one of them will say something groundbreaking. But that rarely happens. So the end result leads to wasted time and put off making any decision at all.

Business › How Much Did You Gain (or Lose) From Betting In 2018. by Jacktheripper(op): 8:41pm On Dec 28, 2018
After 361 days this year with lot of sporting events for punters to stake on, let's give ourselves a quick review of what we gain and lost in the betting business.

Let me start, I started betting after the world cup final when a friend of mine won over 600k over the course of the event. Since then, I have been staking on almost all betting sites from bet9ja to Lionbet to 1xbet. I have account with almost all of them and to be honest, I have not make a single cashout despite staking over 250k.

I must admit betting is a terrible business model except for the bookies and I'm planning on closing all my accounts before the end of the year and return to enjoying football like I used to. Betting has brought more depression to my life, more aches to my heart.

Share your stories brethren, maybe anyone can motivate me to continue.

You no make any sense

brodalokie:
Change the word humility into simple. How many kings can you humiliate? Few months ago a Nigerian king agreed that his current post does not give him the previledge to dance in the public.

Your job is a sacrifice. Take for example those who are working in doors like kings that work from a home office style generally reffered to as Palace because of it's largeness. You are confined to your duty when you ought to be getting involved with other people's funfairs.

Trust is overrated because unless your job is new in town, it is already, tested and approved trustworthy. Imagine a king comes on board after studying history of his land, he decides to take on the name of a past king as his role model. There is nothing to be trusted because he already knows what is before him and what to expect.

The secret we didn't know is how they manage to employ ghost armies as their useful tool to make a subject to commit financial suicide then pretend to help them repeatedly.
Webmasters › Re: Will A Change In Domain Name Affect Your Google Adsense? by Jacktheripper: 12:10pm On Dec 12, 2018
replybbot:
Trully getting the domain approved for AdSense is a must but you do not need to approve the domain if your AdSense account has been previously approved using another domain.

However, one thing you should note is that, Google won't display AdSense Ads on any website or domain if it does not notice any reasonable traffic going to/fro the blog.

Traffic means, people visiting the site/domain and by reasonable, I mean, at the least; 10 unique visit from search engine daily or as many visits as you may gather to the site by other means.

I got this much from ArykTECH and it has really helped my blogging experience. If you are around Oshogbo, you also attend their mentorship at their Osogbo office.

Mobile phones have become widespread all over the world, including in rural and low-income communities. As research shows, these devices have the potential to bring about significant societal change – a fact acknowledged in the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals.

But while the promising role that mobile phones and other Information and Communication Technologies could play in empowering women – particularly in Africa – has long been discussed, relatively little is known about how, when, and why this happens.
We conducted a study with women from the Nigerian city of Kano to see how they were using the mobile messaging service WhatsApp. We wanted to know whether the app had opened up opportunities and freedoms that contributed to empowering them.
Many women said that WhatsApp had allowed them to communicate better, particularly with local politicians. They felt empowered to talk about their concerns openly in WhatsApp discussion groups. And they had more access to information. Others joined religious study groups on WhatsApp, sharing questions and knowledge with other women.

Some women converted their access into opportunity. For instance, they advertised small businesses or services on WhatsApp groups, and earned money as a result.
The women in our study were able to use WhatsApp groups to push the barriers of societal norms that typecast them in gendered roles of mothers and housewives. Using this technology, they were able to become agents of their own change as well as make and exercise choices.

WHATSAPP AND THE WOMEN IN KANO

Kano is a predominantly Muslim community. It is in Kano state, which has one of Nigeria’s highest smartphone densities – about 7.81 million of the country’s 60 million smartphone users live there.
First, we identified two women leaders in community groups to help us find participants for the study. These were selected based on how actively they were engaged in community groups. They also needed to own a smart mobile phone. We did interviews and focus groups with a diverse group of women, asking how they used WhatApp and what benefits they felt this had.

Some had become more politically empowered. Murja'atu*, a 34-year-old housewife, said:
 Initially I always wondered on how to communicate with elected officers especially those of them located in Abuja. We only saw them during the election period but now this online group allows me to interact with them more frequently using the women leader as the intermediary. 
Her experience was echoed by 28-year-old Safiya, a shop owner:

 Our senator made some certain promises during his election campaign after some time we still had not heard from him. I posted it on the group and other members picked up on it, we kept at it till the woman leader passed on our message. Some of the issues have been addressed now. 

The inexpensive and simple form of sharing information on the groups enhanced women’s ability to learn and get clarification about concepts that were unclear to them. In other cases they were able to get help with their children’s homework. This was mentioned repeatedly in the focus group session as one of the things women valued the most about being part of a WhatsApp group.

WhatsApp also proved to be a valuable source of information about health and safety. For example, 41-year-old Asabe, one of the community group leaders, shared this story:

 A husband of one of our group members is a health worker, so she regularly posts information regarding health practices, during the last cholera outbreak, I learnt of it from the post she made. It includes preventive measures such as washing vegetables thoroughly, adding salt while washing and boiling water before drinking. 

The focus groups participants repeatedly mentioned that WhatsApp groups made them feel like part of a community. There was a strong commitment to working together and solving problems.

ECONOMIC OPPORTUNITIES

The WhatsApp group forums have also enabled the women to conduct business sales by marketing their products and services. These entrepreneurs usually send photos of the products and services to prospective clients to have a precise image of what they are planning to buy. A customer is allowed to choose the method of payment and also the method of delivery.

These business women have also used WhatsApp to reach out to their customers on changes in prices. With the current economic situation in country, market prices fluctuate on a daily basis. The women use the forum as a platform where they can post and discuss changes in market prices.
The women now have greater access to customers all over Nigeria. One said:

 I met a lady that lives in Yola (910 kms away from Kano) through WhatsApp and now she has become one of my most trusted and loyal customers, I send her products worth thousands of Naira and I have never met her physically before. 

Postings about jobs and vacancies also formed part of the discussion in these WhatsApp groups. These jobs included household jobs, events and catering. Those who were interested usually contact the employers and interviews were arranged using WhatsApp voice and video calls.

POSITIVE IMPACTS

The findings of this study show that income generation, saving opportunities, expansion of businesses were all economic capabilities that were expanded and afforded to the women by the use of mobile phones.
The use of mobile phones also led to other capabilities that covered other aspects of human development and that have different impacts on the lives of these women and their communities.
