EducationNUC Approves Six New Courses For NOUN by Jaisman26(op):
The National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) says that the National Universities Commission (NUC) has approved six academic programmes for the institution.

Mr Ibrahim Sheme, Director, Media and Publicity of NOUN in a statement on Monday in Abuja said that the approval was conveyed to the Vice-Chancellor Prof. Abdalla Adamu.

According to Sheme, the approval was contained in a letter dated March 19, 2020 and signed by Maryam Sali, NUC Director of Accreditation on behalf of the Executive Secretary.

He said that the programmes are; Accounting, Banking and Finance, Business Administration, Marketing, Public Administration and Hotel and Catering Management.

He said that implication of the status was that NOUN now has the mandate to run the programmes for five years.

“The NUC has the statutory mandate to accredit academic programmes in all universities; certificates issued to students admitted into unaccredited programmes are not recognised.
The latest approval given to NOUN is sequel to the result of an NUC-organised accreditation visitation to the university in Abuja in October/November 2019.

“The result of the visit shows an impressive score for each of the six programmes from 78.7 per cent to 97.4 per cent,” Sheme said.

He noted that the vice chancellor was delighted with the approval.

According to him, the vice chancellors’ said that the development shows readiness of NOUN to fulfill its obligations as a centre of excellence in the Open and Distant Learning.

PoliticsRe: Osun Rerun: Why Adeleke Can’t Win Election Even With Omisore’s Support – APC by Jaisman26(m): 11:27am On Sep 26, 2018
19Ebisco:
The All Progressives Congress, APC, has declared that the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP and its candidate, Ademola Adeleke, would still lose the rerun of the governorship election in Osun even if they get the support of the Social Democratic Party, SDP candidate, Iyiola Omisore.

APC said the opposition party was battling to get Omisore’s support because it was clear to them that Adeleke cannot win on the popular vote.

In a statement on Tuesday by the Director of Publicity, Research and Strategy of the APC in Osun State, Kunle Oyatomi, the party said Adeleke was the least educated and qualified candidate.

The statement reads, “They know that the PDP candidate, Senator Ademola Adeleke, can’t win on the popular votes.

“First, he is the least educated and qualified candidate Osun has ever raised in its history of the political contest.

“The fraud that brought him to this level (manipulation of card readers and purchase of PVC of ill-informed voters) that we are now discussing him as a potential governor, marks us as essentially an illiterate and backward democracy.”

Keyamo criticises Jonathan, Obasanjo, Saraki
ABDULFATAI AYOBAMI IBRAHIM
24 AUG 2018
Success Nwogu, Ilorin

The Director, Strategic Communications for the President Muhammadu Buhari’s 2019 presidential campaign, Mr Festus Keyamo (SAN), has said previous administrations before President Muhammadu Buhari’s government mismanaged Nigeria’s resources.

Keyamo also alleged that the previous leaders cared less for the masses and enabled the rich to loot the national resources to the detriment of the poor.
The lawyer said this on Thursday at the inauguration of the ward and local government canvassers in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, where he gave a lecture titled ‘Milestones of sustainable economic and social development in Nigeria.’

He argued that governments in the past 16 years established a system of sharing national resources.

The past governments in the last 16 years are those of the immediate past President, Dr Goodluck Jonathan; the late Alhaji Umaru Yar’Adua, and Chief Olusegun Obasanjo.

The senior advocate added that Buhari with small earnings had achieved more in three years in the provision of infrastructure than what were provided by the past governments in the past 16 years that earned huge revenues.

Keyamo said, “For 16 years, the previous administrations before President Buhari’s administration re-established a warped system of government. It was an orientation they gave to our youths and all of us. It was a system of government that was based on a sharing formula. That was what they had before 2015.

“Most of those bad eggs that have left us in Kwara State and others, when you hear them talk of inclusiveness and not being carried along, what they mean by inclusiveness is a euphemism for a sharing formula. That is a system of government that was established before 2015 when Buhari came on board. And that is the system that Buhari had tried to change in the last years that has not gone down well with so many people.

“There is no government in the history of this country that has concentrated on the poor and vulnerable as much as this government in the last three years. No government! There is no government that has gone after recovering what belongs to Nigerians with serious mindedness like this government in the last three years. You saw the humongous amounts recovered in pit latrines, flats, water tanks, villages, graveyards. No government has done that.“What Buhari has done in the last three years was to take the bullets from the rich in order to protect the poor. He has not bothered about re-election and political correctness in order to get a second term. He has not conceded anything to anybody. He has not made deals behind you.”

He added, “Presidents before Buhari sold you (Nigerians) out because they wanted political correctness. The former Minister of Finance, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, in her book, said in order to appease the National Assembly, they had to insert N17bn for them to pass the budget. That is how all of us were sold off by previous governments. But President Buhari refused.

For six months, they (National Assembly members) refused to pass the budget and he was looking at them, they were looking at him. He said until we get to the end, they will not see one kobo. When they were tired, the same people who left us here in this state were the champion of these courses.

“Because monies have been diverted by people at the top for many years, they have not remembered the vulnerable. This is the first government that has the four cardinal programmes of social intervention programmes.

One of them is to give stipends to the venerable and certain amount to small and medium enterprises from N250, 000 and N300, 000 to start small businesses. The social intervention programme is an indication that the government is thinking more of the poor more than the rich.

“While President Buhari is boasting that he has provided social intervention programmes for the poor, the past government was boasting of how many rich people it created and how many private jets were parked at the international airports. That is the difference of philosophy.”

PoliticsOrtom’s Aides Behind Benue Killings, Oshiomhole Alleges by Jaisman26(op): 11:06am On Jul 28, 2018
•Says his exit is good riddance to bad rubbish
•Reveals that APC will weed out more
•You called Ortom APC star last week, Ortom aide reminds him
•Says Oshiomhole trying to change pogrom narrative

By Omeiza Ajayi & Peter Duru, Makurdi

THE National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress APC has lashed out at the Benue state Governor, Dr Samuel Ortom, saying his decision to leave the APC was good riddance to bad rubbish. Oshiomhole also alleged that some aides of the governor were behind some of the killings in Benue including the ones that felled Catholic priests. Ortomés media aide quickly reacted, saying that Oshiomhole was simply trying to change the narrative of the pogrom in Benue.

Addressing journalists Saturday evening in Abuja, Oshiomhole said Ortom was dancing on the grave of Benue residents, saying the governor became the party’s choice in 2015 by accident. He said fielding Ortom in the 2019 elections would have led to a crushing defeat of the ruling party.

“Over the past 48 hours, we have been watching with keen interest the development in Benue state with particular reference to the decision of Gov. Ortom to resign from our party and return to his previous party, the PDP. Ordinarily, we would not not have made further comments having already responded to his decision in the manner that the Publicity Secretary did but that was not entirely a reflection of my own thinking.

Why APC wouldn’t have fielded Ortom in 2019

“The first is that as you all recall, Gov. Ortom had said the APC in Benue state had given him red card to leave our party and that they would not field him in the forthcoming governorship election in 2019 and because the door had been shut against him, he had no choice than to leave. Without going into investigations, we invited him to speak to us on the issues. We also invited our leaders of our party in Benue state to also brief us on what the issues were. From the point of view of our leaders in Benue state, their position was clear that they believed that fielding Gov. Ortom on the APC platform in the 2019 election could only lead to electoral defeat for a number of reasons.

They reminded us that in spite of the allocations accruing to Benue state and in spite of the bail out funds amounting to over N20 billion that they had received in two instalments of N10 billion each and in addition to the huge sums of money that Benue state collected from the Paris Club Refund, Gov. Ortom has not, and is not paying salaries to Benue workers as and when due, including teachers, local government employees and the state civil servants.

He is owing some of them as much as 12 months salary, some more than 16 months and so the entire economy of Benue state that survives largely on civil servants salaries is to that extent compromised.
Of course, what is not readily obvious to many, and which they told us, is the fact that most of our elders who have built houses as part of their retirement plans and who expect to live on rent paid by civil servants who are tenants, the fact that the entire civil servants in Benue state are not being paid means that they in turn are defaulting in the payments of their rents and you know the implication of this on traders and the commercial life of Benue state. This element alone substantially explains the vicious cycle of poverty in Benue state that has been deepened under Gov. Ortom.

Ortom dancing on the grave of dead people

“The second is that they drew our attention to the fact that Gov. Ortom has complicated the situation by his own actions and poor judgment of the security situation in Benue state and they drew our attention to the fact that some of those who have been arrested were people who have been associated with Gov. Ortom including people who have been in his employ, including in particular a guy who was known to have been involved in Boko Haram activities and who he knowingly recruited to manage what they call Forest Guards.

For any man of honour, if an appointee of government is involved in heinous crime, including killing, that would be enough for a governor to worry about. Instead, Gov. Ortom played up the ethnic dimension of criminality whereas in truth, some of those who have been killed were killed not by Muslims, they were killed by Christians of Benue state origin, including those he has employed.

So, his attempt to explain away criminality by playing up ethnic sentiments is not helpful to what he should do as governor to manage the situation better. After all, those in Benue state have always been there by whatever description and therefore, Gov. Ortom’s predecessors including Gov. Suswam had found ways to manage this diversity. So, Ortom’s incapacity to manage it and even to seek to make political capital of the death of Benue people is most unfortunate because I believe that even in politics, there should be a level of morality.

Benue indigenes, Fulani Herdsmen complicit in Killings

“It is important to note that the condemnable killing of two Reverend Fathers in a church…those who have confessed to this crime include people who have worked with Gov. Ortom and these killings were done few weeks after one of these Reverend Fathers in a church sermon was extremely critical of the governance in Benue state and of the style of governance of Gov. Ortom and his price obviously was that few weeks after this sermon in which he was very critical of Gov. Ortom including the damage done to family life by the none payment of salaries that he had to pay with his dear life.

For us, the shock is that, I am not about to suggest that Gov. Ortom might have asked anyone to go and kill anyone but that those involved in these killings, some of them are people of Benue state origin and that they are Christians. That is not to deny that some herdsmen have also been involved in the killings but the responsibility of any governor is not to seek to manipulate it but to confront it squarely”.

Questions Ortom’s

reasoning

“I wanted to simply cross check with him on the allegations made against him and he was to come by Wednesday that is why he organised that drama. And that tells you the quality of reasoning, with all due respect to Governor Ortom, how can you reduce governance to Nollywood, saying “when I wanted to go to Abuja to meet with the National Working Committee, my people blocked the road that I will not go.” When has it become a case that when a governor wants to travel it is on the radio that he is travelling and this is the purpose?
President, VP only visit Benue on Condolences, not Project Commissioning

“When the APC leaders asked him this question last week to address these allegations, whereas the President and Vice President had visited other states to commission projects, they had only visited Benue on condolence visits. It is okey to lament that there is no federal presence, where is the explanations for the absence of projects in Benue state? His argument was that he had diverted a lot of the fund to security issues. And that raises the question, can you spend N22 billion on security and yet the people are more and more insecure.

“And if he agrees that he is spending money on security, then it means that he appreciates the responsibility as the chief security officer of the state to protect lives and property and not simply pass the buck.

“So I felt scandalized this afternoon after watching him say he had to leave where he is , which is the APC and if your people are not safe there, you return to where you are coming from.

“I am relieved as national chairman and I believe that the leadership of the party in Benue state is also relieved that Ortom has left the party and returned to the club he belongs to. A club whose philosophy is share the money and not develop communities. So we now have a clean platform to search for a clean and credible candidate from Benue that can provide leadership that the great people of Benue state deserve and not someone who seeks to make political capital of human graves and celebrating the death of his own people.

“As a party, we condemn any life that has been wasted by any criminal whether in Benue state or any part of Nigeria and we accept that the government’s irreducible minimum responsibility must be to protect lives and property. But I condemn in strong terms anyone of us who is in government that seeks to get political capital on deaths because we have shared responsibility of Nigerians irrespective of religious, social and political status.

So I just thought that I should clear the air that we are relieved that Ortom has gone and if you look at it, he got our ticket on a platter of gold because he was never a participant during the process of our party’s formation. He became a candidate by accident and the lesson for our party is that never again should anyone become a candidate on our platform by accident. It has to be by conscious choice and as things are, for those of us who monitored my comments since I became national chairman, my aim is that we will have a political party that is defined by clear cut ideology and people will join or abstain from joining except on the premise of conviction”, he added.

Reacting to the allegation by the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Adams Oshiomhole that it was Governor Samuel Ortom’s aides that were responsible for the murder of the two Priest and 17 worshipped at Mbalon in Gwer local government area of the state, the Chief Press Secretary, CPS, to the Governor, Terver Akase maintained that the Oshiomhole was only trying to change the narrative of the Benue pogrom as usual.

PoliticsHow nPDP Led Oyegun To Destroy APC - Lauretta Onochie by Jaisman26(op): 12:28am On Jul 27, 2018
The Presidency on Thursday blamed past leadership of former Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Chief John Oyegun for the crisis in the party.
Buhari’s Personal Assistant on Social Media, Lauretta Onochie in a statement on her Facebook page said electing Oyegun was a grave mistake as he was led by leaders of nPDP who brought the downfall of the party.

According to her, Oyegun served the party in the interest of nPDP leaders who operated on the template laid by nPDP.
“It has to be understood that the only experience Nigerians have had in the recent times has been that of PDP. Their system was not ordinary people friendly. Ordinary party faithfuls had no part nor say in PDP affairs. PDP was and is still run by impunity. Only one person and at best, a few people, decide what needs to be done.

“Consequently, the leadership of Chief Oyegun, copied verbatim, the PDP ways of doing things. It must be understood too, that the only example Chief Oyegun had of party leadership in recent times was PDP. But he was unwilling to adapt. He was not willing to be innovative or creative. At first he showed eagerness to do things differently but now we know, why he couldn’t lead change.

“It turned out that the nPDP was a pebble in the blender that blended APC into a merger. The nPDP, being a pebble that sneaked into a blender that merged ACN, ANPP, CPR and half APGA, could not merge with the others as their character was still, PDP. This nPDP hijacked Chief Oyegun and used him to transform our treasured APC into something many of us could not recognise. Nigerians began to look for, but could not see the difference between APC and PDP. Consequently, many of us either stood aloof and watched or began a background campaign to recover our party. I joined the later.

“Impunity took over the national APC. Some members of the National Working Committee, complained bitterly that Chief Oyegun was acting alone, guided of course, by nPDP leaders in the party. Everything he did was to serve their interests. The NWC would decide on an issue. Behind them, Chief Oyegun would reverse their collective decisions. He ran the APC HQ as a private estate. Are you asking how I came about that conclusion? I am from Delta State. I’ll just hang it there!

“And then it happened. His Excellency, Comrade Oshiomhole, a core progressive, emerged as the new leader of APC and all hell broke loose! Grumbling became louder. Threats erupted. There was jittery. There was panic. Those who were used to having their ways, sought to escape. They began to be comical. They did not need anyone to tell them that the game was up. They scampered like frightened chicks at the appearance of a shadow of an eagle from the sky. They know they cannot manipulate our Comrade. They know he belongs to the people. Yes the people!

“Many of us were delighted. As I said earlier, we wanted an APC that is different both in character and content from PDP. But the pebbles that refused to be merged, ensured APC remained bloated, overweight, inedible and indigestible. Many Nigerians voiced the glaring fact that APC looked like, talked like and acted like it’s older brother, PDP. But that was not APC. It was nPDP.

“But the change is now happening. Not totally, because there are still remnants of the old order, who would want everything to continue at the APC HQ, as usual. We are watching them and we will not tolerate their impunity and corruption in our new NWC. We will speak up.

“Looking like PDP was not funny. It wad sad. Being obese is unhealthy by any standard. It’s time to lose weight. It’s time for members of all political parties in Nigeria to return to where they feel comfortable in terms of ideology. In APC, we expected defections of pebbles who could not blend with the rest of us. We are also expecting that those Nigerians who are stranded in other parties or who could not see the difference between APC and PDP, would soon see the difference and return to where they truly belong.

“What is happening now, is great for the growth of party politics in Nigeria. When we are through, when one says he/she is APC or PDP, we will, straight away, know who they are and what they stand for. Parties will be driven by ideologies, not by personal interests or stomach infrastructure.

“We are in a good place in our democratic journey. APC is going through renovation and refurbishment. We could not have had a better pair of hands than His Excellency, Comrade Adams Eric Aliyu Oshiomhole to supervise the work of recovering our great party, APC.

“We must all join hands with our party leaders to fully recover our party. We are nearly there. We will show Nigerians that we are different. We ask Nigerians to be patient with us as we fight for the heart and soul of our party.
A! P! C! Change! Change has come to APC. His name Oshiomhole!”

PoliticsBoko Haram Has No Territorial Hold Anywhere In Nigeria – Buhari by Jaisman26(op): 9:37pm On Jun 21, 2018
President Muhammadu Buhari has once again said the terrorist group Boko Haram has been degraded and is no longer in control of any part of Nigeria.

The President said this in Abuja, the nation’s capital, on Thursday at the 2018 World Congress of the International Press Institute, which had the theme ‘Why Good Journalism Matters’.

Addressing participants at the Congress which he attended with ministers and other top government officials, the President observed that the event is taking place during a tough period for the world.

“Your annual congress is holding in Nigeria during a period of global terrorism. Nigeria experiences that scourge through Boko Haram which has been technically degraded and has no territorial hold anywhere anymore in its North-East operational base,” he said.

After years of battling Boko Haram insurgents in the North East, the Federal Government has limited the attacks which extended to the nation’s capital at the height of the insurgency.

Beyond informing participants about the current state of the war against insurgency in the country, the President provided an update on recent developments in the North East.

“Internally displaced persons are gradually returning to their communities in reasonable safety and security,” he said.

Border Security

Government officials, including President Buhari, had partly blamed the influx of firearms into the country and the strength of Boko Haram during the peak of the insurgency to the Libyan crisis.

As a result, the Buhari administration which came to power promising to tackle security, fight corruption and boost the economy had taken some steps to tighten security around the border, including partnering with neighbouring countries.

The Minister of Interior, Abdulrahman Dambazau, who was also at the Congress, defended the government’s performance in tackling security challenges.

Although he said, there is still much to do as Nigeria cannot guarantee security along the borders on its own, the minister rated the efforts so far made by government excellent.

When asked to rate the performance of the Federal Government in checking Nigeria’s porous borders on a scale of one to 10, the minister rated the government a 10.

Dambazau said, “This is a difficult thing you are giving me because when you are talking about border security and management it involves so many things. That is one.

“Secondly, from what I have said, it isn’t something that is left to Nigeria alone. It is a regional problem that we are working very closely with our neighbouring countries on.

“In our own efforts, I will tell you 10/10.”

BusinessMike Adenuga Sacks Over 90married Female Staff Of Globacom by Jaisman26(op): 10:16am On Mar 14, 2018
Married female staff of Globacom are currently in pains after the Chairman, Mike Adenuga laid off over 90 of them.

According to a reliable source, the management laid them off because they were married and Mike Adenuga does not want married women in his company again.

I received a rude shock from the company I have served diligently for 13years yesterday. I, alongside almost 90 other married women were laid off simply because we are married and Dr. Mike Adenuga does not want any married woman in Globacom (Gloworld friendship centre).

I was laid off a company I dedicated my time & energy to, working tirelessly and always dedicated to my job giving my 200%. My family & friends would always say if I had a cut, my blood will be “green”.

Some of you would wonder what I was doing in Globacom for 13 good years, I will give you an insight of my story.

I joined the company a vibrant 22year old, freshly out of school graduate. I have worked with dedication, total commitment and loyalty.

I can convinietly say I rose through the ladder being an outstanding staff and got whatever due given to such persons. Not a single one of the several bosses I have worked with can give negative report about me.

I have trained several staff on the job and can proudly say that i was a good leader as I was a follower. So yes, I was not stagnant (considering that the company has no coherent organizational structure) and had every reason to believe that hard work & dedication pays until Globacom said otherwise.

We were replaced with males (some of whom have not earned the positions) single ladies (who have neither earned nor have any knowledge about the job) and newly recruited staff who are by the way poorly paid all in a bid to get rid of us.

How can experience be thrown away because of a so called new structure? How does a marital blessing with the gift of children suddenly become a dissabilty to work? I’m not certain there is anyone that wishes for their child, sister, friend or even herself to be unmarried and not have children.

This act is a discrimination against gender and human rights to work.

We were laid off with absolutely nothing in form of compensation for what they have done! We were used and thrown away with only one month salary in lieu which they promised to pay yesterday but have obviously failed to as usual.

It is only in Globacom that such injustice can be done & feel “they” will get away with it.
Please we need justice over the matter, kindly forward to as many of your contacts until justice prevails, this cannot be swept under the carpet! Thank you. were laid off with absolutely nothing in form of compensation for what they have done! His message:
Attacks and killings in Nasarawa State everyday but no single sign to show that Nasarawa State government is willing to stop it or to protect the lives and properties of its citizens, what a pity. Nothing from state Radio station, nothing from state TV station, nothing from state government allies, nobody from state government cares ..... what a pity.... your silence is inhuman and it's not acceptable...
.....Leadership is nothing but responsibility, I'm not a saint but I keep pressing on to be a better
person each passing day, I don't know it all but
I keep searching for more knowledge to be
better than I was yesterday.
We want a new Nasarawa State and I believe I
have what it takes to lead us there.
I'm ready to serve, I'm willing to serve and I'm fit to serve.
I am capable, competent and focused.

Foreign AffairsCameroon Separatist Leaders Arrested By Cameroonian Gunmen In Abuja Nigeria by Jaisman26(op): 10:36pm On Jan 07, 2018
Security forces have arrested leaders of Ambazonia separatist movement, a Cameroonian group seeking independence from the Francophone country.

French is the official language in the country but English is spoken in two regions.

It is not clear those who are behind the arrest which happened when the group was having a meeting at Nera Hotel in Abuja, on Friday.

Sani Usman, spokesman of the Nigerian army, did not respond to TheCable’s inquiries on whether the military is in the know.

Usman neither answered his calls nor replied a text message sent to his telephone line on Sunday afternoon.

Those picked up were Julius Tabe, Nfor Nfor, Fidelis Che, Henry Kimeng, Awasum, Cornelius Kwanga, Tassang Wilfred, Eyambe Elias, Ojong Okongho and Nalowa Bih.

The Anglophone part of the country has been accusing the government of President Paul Biya, who has been in power for 35 years, of indiscrimination.

Dozens of them have been killed, with many arrested in anti-government protests.

In a statement sent to TheCable, Chris Anu, spokesman of the Ambazonia separatist movement, called for the immediate release of those arrested in Abuja.

He said Southern Cameroonians would continue to assert their right to self-determination.

“The interim government of the Southern Cameroons condemns and calls for the immediate release of President Julius Ayuk Tabe,” the statement read

“The Federal Government of Nigeria has been notified of the incident and it is currently investigating the situation.

“This criminal abduction happened during a meeting being chaired by H.E. Sisiku Ayuk Tabe. The President and his team were in a high command meeting in Abuja, Federal Capital Territory of Nigeria at the time the Cameroun Gunmen showed up at the Hotel.

“The meeting started at around 5pm, Nigerian time. At around 7:30PM, the gunmen came into the Hotel and abducted all of them including the president.”

Anu said the meeting was about the welfare of those who fled to Nigeria as a result of the clampdown in Cameroon.

“The meeting was scheduled to discuss the Southern Cameroons Refugee crisis in Nigeria and to galvanise relief support for housing, medical and feeding in anticipation of the approaching rainy season,” he said.

“We call on Nigerian authorities to address this issue immediately and ensure that the Cameroun government does not do any harm to them. We also call on the Nigerian authorities to investigate this threat against its sovereignty by La Republique du Cameroun.

“We call on the Nigerian government to guarantee the security of the more than 20,000 Southern Cameroonian refugees in various camps in Nigeria.”

RomanceUnderstanding Women: Unlocking The Mystery Of What Women Really Want by Jaisman26(op): 2:03pm On Sep 15, 2017
Women, women, women…can't live with 'em, can't go gay. They are the nourishers, the caregivers, the reason the human race continues to survive and while we understand that they, like all men, are human — most men are at a complete loss when it comes to understanding women. Personally, I never found them to be quite the mystery that everyone makes them out to be.

This is not to say that they aren't complex and occasionally complicated creatures, but they are rational beings. Most men confuse irrationality with emotional intensity. More often than not, a man comes up with such excuses because he either over rationalizes or falls to the popular explanation of women being non-understandable enigmas. The truth is much simpler; like men, women want what is best for them. Unlike most men, women have the ability to give themselves wholly to their life partner and to their families.

If anything, women should be easier to understand than men. Women understand the importance of connecting with the rest of the human race while men prefer solitude. I should probably apologize ahead of time seeing as how I am a man myself and therefore am likely to misinterpret women. So if that is the case, then I am sorry. I do hope though that this article will help some of you get a better understanding of why women act the way they do and prove that women aren't crazy, just misunderstood.

Women want to be respected.

In order to understand anyone — women or men — you must understand what it is that they want. With that being said, the first thing that women want, which you may notice also goes for men, is to be respected. They do not want to be respected as women, but rather as individuals — as people. This is where the seeming contradiction often appears.

Well, one of them anyway. Women want to be seen as important individuals with important contributions in their field and/or society. They do not want to be singled out as being very good female employees — female lawyers, female doctors, female CEOs — they want to be singled out as just being very good at what they do. They do not want their sex to factor into the equation. Yet, at the same time, they want to be respected as women. They don't necessarily want to be one of the guys; they just want to be acknowledged as being good or better than the guys.

Women are proud to be women and while they do not want to be singled out for being women, they want others to see them as women. This is easier understood when you separate work life and social life (social life inside or outside of the workplace). When it comes to their careers and accomplishments, women do not want their sex to be emphasized. However, when it comes to social interaction, women (most I believe) still want to be treated as women.

Some may find certain jokes or interactions inappropriate. Others may be more comfortable — it really depends on the individual. One thing that is certain is that women want to be respected as women and treated as women, but not to have it put upon them that being a woman is some sort of handicap.

Women want to be understood without having to explain themselves.

This is another point at which, if the woman hasn't lost the man already, she most certainty has him scratching his head now. Women are looking to connect with a man on a deep level — on a level so deep-seated that the need for words sheds from necessity. I am sure that every man has heard a woman say at some point or another: “I don't want to have to explain it to you. You should know.”

This is the point at which the man in the relationship will exclaim that he isn't a mind reader and can't possibly know what craziness she could be conjuring up in that head of hers. The truth is that women are looking for just that — mind readers. Not in the literal sense of course, but they do want a man that understands them enough to know what they would like, what they would not like, what they would find appropriate or inappropriate, how they want to be treated, how they are feeling and why they are feeling that way.

Women want a man that gets them — a man that does not need a full explanation of her inner workings each and every time that something meaningful needs addressing. She does not want to have to explain to you how and why she is feeling the way she is and why her mood has changed. She expects you to know her well enough, to be connected to her well enough, to not need a summary. The beauty of this is that in most cases as long as the man actually listens to the woman regularly and is close with her, then what goes on in her mind will be discernable.

Her actions alongside a basic knowledge of the way she thinks — which any man in a relationship ought to know — is enough to predict the most likely cause of her unhappiness. Besides, if the woman is unhappy then her man should be doing everything in his power to pinpoint the issue and resolve it; most often this sort of effort is enough to brighten her day.

Women want to be cared for.

Women can take care of themselves…but that doesn't mean that they want to be the only ones looking out for them. The whole point of being in a relationship — other than for having incredible sex on the regular — is to have a partner in crime, someone who wants to help you achieve your goals and make your dreams a reality, someone who has your back.

Women need to believe that their man will be there for them when sh*t hits the fan. They need to know that their man will be there when they need help painting the apartment, help getting through a stressful situation, help getting over a cold. Women want someone who will be there for them regardless of whether or not they ask.

In fact, they don't want to ask; they want you to voluntarily, happily and caringly make sure that their needs are met and that they stay happy. Women want the man to always have the woman's opinion in mind; whether it is picking a place to have dinner, deciding on a movie to watch or picking out a holiday gift, the woman wants her man to have an understanding of what she likes and — more importantly — care that that is what she likes.

Women want to be loved.

Obviously. Who doesn't? Explaining exactly what love is has proven to be impossible for the last…well, since ever. What matters is not what love is; what matters is how the man can make the woman feel loved. This is important to remember because what you as the man consider to be loving does not necessarily correlate with what she as the woman believes to be loving.

What exactly making her feel loved entails will vary from individual to individual. Which brings me to my next point — the woman wants the man to know how she would like to be loved, what the best way to make her feel loved is. Love initially comes without warning and without much effort. What proves to be more difficult is keeping its longevity. In order to keep the love alive, you must keep each other's feeling of love alive. You may think what you want, but I believe that doing so is centered on the concept of romance.

Again, keeping the romance will differ between couples, just as any relationship differs from the next. For one couple, it may be a candlelit dinner, for another it may be eating hot dogs and drinking 40s while sitting on an overpass and spitting at cars as they drive by. Women need their man to keep the romance alive and need their man to make them feel loved.

Above all, they want to establish a connection; they don't want to be alone.

We come into this world alone and we leave it alone. The one thing that we all try to hang onto while it's a possibility is companionship. We want to believe that we are not entirely alone in this life and that we are capable of becoming part of something meaningful. When the bond between a man and woman increases in intensity, it is as if the two begin to swap parts of each other.

A piece of the man melts into the woman and a piece of the woman fuses with the man. Whether or not you believe in a spiritual plane underlying the physical world is irrelevant. Our “spirits” or souls or whatever have you do not need to factor into the equation for two people to come closer to becoming one. Our thoughts, ideas, likes and dislikes allow for us — in a sense — to merge with another.

If we as human beings are a sum of our actions and thoughts, then believing that bonding with someone on an emotional and physical level causes us to become part of the other is not a stretch. This is what women want. They want for their man to understand them to such a great extent and at such an intricate level that they feel as if their man has become part of them and that they have likewise become part of their man. When you get down to it, what women really want is the same thing men want: to connect, to grow and to give life a meaning outside of oneself.
