A Brief Profile Of The Igbo People Of Jamaica By Njideka Agbo | 18 January 2018 | 7:16 am Wah gwaan bredrin, everyting ire? Ever heard the word “red ibo” in Jamaica? Your suspicion is true, “red ibo” was used to refer to the Igbo slaves in Jamaica because of their light skin. The land of Jamaica witnessed the influx of the Igbo race between 1790 and 1809 during the transatlantic slave trade. The modern Igbo race dwelt in the Bight of Biafra in Nigeria. It was from here that the Igbos who were kidnapped and sold as slaves by the Europeans were taken to work on plantations. Advertisement Advertisement During this period, the Igbos, due to their inability to speak the language, introduced some of their words which have now become infused in the Jamaican Patois. Some of these words include: Unu– You people Ima osu (Jamaica) Imu oso (Igbo)- to hiss by sucking your teeth Akara (Jamaica) Akàrà (Igbo)– bean cake Soso (Jamaica) Sọsọ (Igbo)- only Jamaica’s historical culture cannot be mentioned with the influence of the Igbo’s. The Igbo’s influenced the culture, music, the pouring of libation, the “ibo” style, idioms and way of life of the Jamaicans. Their yam festival, the Jonkonnu, was introduced by the Igbos. There is a town allegedly named after them, the Ibu Town. The Jamaicans are akin to the ways of the Igbos such that it is not uncommon to see Jamaicans watch Igbo Nollywood movies. Some of their rural areas resemble the Igbo’s in Eastern Nigeria. Olaudah-Equiano. Photo credit: Daily Mail Known for their pride, the Igbos are said to have unwritten rules that even the slave owners were made to abide by. Out of this people came individuals who left a mark in that period. A popular example is author, Olaudah Equiano, who was very instrumental in maintaining law and order among the Igbos in Jamaica during the 1776 Mosquito Shore Scheme. He is also credited as being one of the campaigners of the abolition of slave trade (Google celebrated his 272 birthday last year). The Igbos were also popular for committing suicides to go back to their homeland. This suicide was what made most slave traders skeptical of having them as slaves. When they could no longer bear the slavery, 250 Igbo men conspired to kill every white man in the land. Although they failed, their song for freedom cannot be forgotten: Oh me good friend, Mr Wilberforce, make we free! God Almighty thank ye! God Almighty thank ye! God Almighty, make we free! Buckra in this country no make we free: What Negro for to do? What Negro for to do? Take force by force! Take force by force! So the Tivs and the Idomas as well as any other person in Benue and by inference, the indigenous people in states like Kogi, Kwara, Taraba, Plateau, Adamawa, Gombe, etc are just allowed to live there by the benevolent acts of the fulanis?
This statement is weighty and depicts the reasoning of the fulanis which informs their heartless butchering of supposed land owners. So in fact, the lands belongs to fulanis but they just allowed those tribes to stay there for the meantime. Now they want their lands back, and must have it?
This also implies that the "Jihad" of the 17th century was not for religious propagation but for land grabbing and political expansion
Am confused. Pls somebody explain this man's statement for better clearity. Good morning sah! |

Politics › Benue State Belongs To The Fulani By Right Of Conquest - Prof. Labdo Muhammad by jamesibor(op): 10:19pm On Jan 17, 2018 |
Prof. Umar Labdo Muhammad of the Faculty of Humanities, Northwest University, Kano claims that Benue State belongs to the Fulani by right of conquest. Read below: BENUE STATE BELONGS TO THE FULANI BY RIGHT OF CONQUEST
Benue State belongs to the Fulani people by right of conquest. This is because half of the state is part of the Bauchi Emirate and the other half is part of the Adamawa Emirate. Benue is therefore part and parcel of the Sokoto Caliphate. So no one has the right to expel the Fulani from Benue under any guise.
Second to the Arabs, perhaps the Fulani are the most benevolent and merciful conquerors in history. If they had applied the Nazi final solution to the natives, or if they had treated them the same way the European settlers treated Red Indians in North America or the Aborigines in Australia, the story would have been different toady.
The Fulani are the largest single nation in West Africa and, perhaps, on the whole continent and they have remained unbeatable throughout their history. You can hate the Fulani, you can call them all sort of names, you can blackmail their spineless political leaders, you can conspire to wipe out the entire Fulani leadership in a single day, you can stage a coup and "orkarize" (excise) the core Fulani states from Nigeria, you can hate them to he'll, but you can never beat them.
Fulani's main problem remains their meek, spineless, incompetent leaders that have lost all sense of responsibility and abandoned their people. But this problem, thank God, is not insurmountable. The Fulani are capable of changing their leaders: traditional, political, religious and cultural (I mean by cultural those so-called Fulani socio-cultural organizations that eat fat on the Fulani but cannot champion their cause or defend their rights). They have done this in the past and are capable of doing it again. https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=1282232385255863&id=100004073420133

Politics › Niger Delta Avengers To Resume Hostilities. by jamesibor(op): 12:27pm On Jan 17, 2018 |
HAPPY DOOMED YEAR NIGERIA; GET READY FOR OPERATION BRINGING DOWN FPSO. The high command of the Niger Delta Avengers wishes all Niger Deltans a happy New Year as we admonish the Nigerian Government to brace up for the doom we have finished all arrangement to unleash on the oil sector in a few days time. This round of attacks will be the most deadly and will be targeting the deep sea operations of the multinationals which include Bonga Platform, Agbami, EA Field, Britania-U Field, Akpo Field; amongst others littered across the deep waters of the Niger Delta region. As for the Egina FPSO, we are advising the operators to let it stay where ever it is right now as we are tracking it's movement. We mean it when we say they (the oil installations) shall dance to the sound of the fury of the Niger Delta Avengers. Good a thing the ocean is wide enough to accommodate as many wreck as possible. On the 15th of January 2018, being the 62nd historic remembrance day of the 1956 discovery of commercial oil by Shell Darcy in the now forgotten and dejected Oloibiri Community in the Niger Delta; the high command of the ND Avengers summoned a meeting of all our operatives from across the Niger Delta to review the progress of our operations so far and deliberate on the planned actions for the future. It was agreed in that meeting that the killings and division presently playing out in Nigeria along divergent grounds makes this the perfect time to restructure this country. While promising a brutal outpour of our wrath, which shall shake the coffers of the failed Nigerian nation, our demand unambiguously is for the government to "RESTRUCTURE THIS COUNTRY". On the 3rd of November 2017 we promised to reactivate "operation red economy" but as usual some overzealous and over patriotic elders intervened and appealed as they have done twice before then for us to avail them some more time to attend to the demands of the Niger Delta as championed by the Niger Delta Avengers. That we have not achieved any meaningful results despite the opportunities we have availed the Niger Delta elders means that they are either irresponsible or the Nigerian government is not sincere with them as it is their trade in stock. Because of the above, we have resolved not to listen to the Niger Delta elders as we unravel our New year package to the failed Nigerian state this time around. We wish to state in plain terms that anybody against restructuring is an enemy of this country and particularly an enemy of the Niger Delta Avengers; and we shall not rest until such enemies are defeated by the Niger Delta People who earnestly seek to control our own resources. We want to control our resources and directly use them to better our lot instead of been enslaved and made to beg before crumbs are released in a dress rehearsal-like manner to intervention agencies that are ineffective at addressing our challenges. While 1 Billion Dollars from the excess crude account is been released to fight a Boko Haram in the North; successive government acts blind to the very bold array of challenges our region from which this wealth is generated is facing; as they (the Nigerian Government) derives pleasure in sending their unprofessional and weak military to invade our communities and subject our already sick and suffering people to more hardship and poverty. Only a few days ago the Nigerian Army released 244 members of the murderous Boko Haram sect to Borno state government while thousands of innocent Niger Delta youths continue to suffer in various prisons across the country for no just cause. It is on the above premise that we are demanding the immediate release of all Niger Deltans Activists and Freedom Fighters that are held captive by the Nigeria Armed Forces. The extrajudicial cold blooded murder of Kareowei and 20 members of his gang by the Nigerian Army after deceiving them with Amnesty offer is very unprofessional; yes they were common criminals who brought pain to our own people but going ahead to murder them after reaching an agreement with them and making them to surrendered to the army is a clear pointer to the insincerity of the Nigerian Government at handling issues that concern the Niger Delta; just like the Nigerian Government daily deceive the international community of how professional the multinationals are carrying out their operations and how vast they have developed our lands; when the reverse is actually the case on ground. Let the Kareowei issue be a lesson to all freedom fighters across the Niger Delta never to fall for the antics of the insincere Nigerian Government; put the fear of death aside and fight till the last drop of blood whenever you are engaged in a gun duel with the Nigeria Army as it is this same path we have chosen to glory.Again, the Niger Delta Avengers wish Nigeria a doomed 2018; courtesy the skilled hands of our fierce and smooth operatives across the Niger Delta. Politics › Re: Photos Of Cart Pushers Arrested In Lagos As Government Begins Clampdown by jamesibor: 8:14pm On Jan 15, 2018 |
dainformant: Lagos State Government on Monday arrested 30 cart pushers for dumping refuse indiscriminately on road medians in some areas of the State in the middle of the night.
Chairman of the State’s Task Force on Environmental and Other Special Offences (Enforcement Unit), SP Olayinka Egbeyemi who spoke to journalists, said the arrest was in line with the recent ban on the activities of cart pushers and wheel barrow operators by the State Government.
Egbeyemi, who affirmed that the activities of cart pushers in the State are illegal, said investigations found them culpable in dumping refuse on the road side especially at night thereby sabotaging efforts by the Government to keep the State clean.
He said the Government is poised to go all out to prosecute any persons found to be working against the new waste management policy encapsulated in the Cleaner Lagos Initiative (CLI), saying the programme is designed to revolutionalise waste administration in line with global best practices when fully operational.
“There are reports that refuse are littering the Lekki, Victoria Island, Ajah and other parts of the State and investigations reveal that it is the handiwork of unscrupulous elements within Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) and their outside sponsors who are not comfortable with the new arrangement for the management of waste in the State and are hell bent on sabotaging government effort and frustrating them from carrying it out.
Egbeyemi said the suspects arrested would soon be charged to court for prosecution, just as he assured that Government would leave no stone unturned in keeping the State safe and clean.
Besides, the Task Force Chairman said that the enforcement would continue across the State until the activities of cart pushers and other unscrupulous elements found to be frustrating government’s efforts are completely brought to a halt.

Prominent leaders from Benue State have told President Muhammadu Buhari that there is no land to allow for the establishment of cattle colonies as being proposed by the Minister of Agriculture, Audu Ogbeh. They made their position known to the president on Monday after they held a closed door meeting with him in the State House, Presidential Villa, Abuja. Governor Samuel Ortom, who led the delegation and addressed the press after the meeting, said Mr. Ogbeh, “who is a son of the soil has explained that cattle colonies are a combination of several ranches” and is proposing that ten thousand hectares should be provided for that purpose. “In Benue, we don’t have ten hectares for colonies, other states may have, but we don’t have in Benue State,” he said. Among those in the delegation are former senate president, David Mark; former governor, George Akume and several others.
