Romance / NAPTIP Raids Abuja Motel Using Under-aged Girls For Prostitution by jamesnews0001: 11:03am On Mar 25, 2019
Operatives of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), on Sunday night, raided a hotel in Lugbe, Abuja.
Mr Josiah Emerole, NAPTIP’s Director of Investigation, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the operatives rescued three girls and arrested 20 suspects over alleged forced prostitution.

He said that the hotel, located in Tundun Wada area of Lugbe, was identified as a notorious spot where underage girls were kept for prostitution.

Some of the girls, however, pleaded innocence, while explaining that they were arrested while running errands.

”Part of our job is to rescue under aged persons who are being exploited and arrest suspects.

”Davis Hotel has been in our radar for sometime and we have rescued some underage girls from the facility in the past.

“The NAPTIP Act frowns at facilities where young girls are harboured and exploited for prostitution,” Emerole said.

He said that all the persons arrested in the raid would be profiled, during which the victims will be separated from the suspects.

“When we profiled them, we will keep those we identify as victims in our facility for rehabilitation, while the suspects would be handed over to our legal department for prosecution,” he said.

He advised parents and guardians to take interest in movement and activities of their children and wards and protect them from being exploited in any way.

The raid which lasted till 12 midnight was jointly executed by officials of NAPTIP and men of the Nigeria Police Force

Politics / Abia Election: APGA Chairman Asked To Resign Over Poor Performance by jamesnews0001: 8:48pm On Mar 24, 2019
A chieftain of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, Ejikeme Alozie-Nwagboso, has taken a swipe at the Abia State chairman of the party, Reverend Augustine Ehiemere, over the poor outing of APGA in the just concluded March 9 gubernatorial and House of Assembly elections in the state.
Nwagboso called on the APGA chairman to step aside, so as to enable the state party leadership and structures restrengthened and repositioned ahead of future elections.

Recall that DAILY POST had reported that Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, was declared the winner of the 2019 gubernatorial election in Abia state.

Ikpeazu polled the total number of 261,127 to defeat Uche Ogah of the All Progressives Congress, APC, and Alex Otti of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).

The APGA chieftain made the call in a letter addressed Ehiemere, and made available to reporters on Sunday, in Umuahia.

Part of the letter reads, “Our Party, APGA participated in the just concluded elections with nothing much to show for it compared to where the Party was in 2015. The seats we secured in Aba was a result of having solid supporters in Aba over the years. No victory happened there because of you. Under your leadership, the Party has retrogressed at an alarming rate. We put up poor showings at everywhere else, and the Party leadership must accept responsibility.

“We need to rebuild APGA in Abia state, and a comprehensive overhaul is needed to reposition the Party in the state. You’re not ebullient enough to lead that change. You should leave that position for someone that has better wit, passion and charisma, which you obviously lack to take over the headship of the Party. We must be holding people accountable for poor showings. The Buck stops at your desk in the state. You must resign your position. It is the honorable thing to do. As a member of the Party, i make that call for you to step aside.

“You watched as the Party was decimated, and ignored building for collective interests of every member of the Party. You don’t lead a people or any organization with arrogance and disdain. You allowed some aspirants to be wickedly pushed away from the Party. You ignored the defeated ones; even though many were illegally made to fail to spring up favored candidates of you and those remote controlling you. You made no attempt at even reconciling aggrieved aspirants. It was that ridiculous. I kept quiet to allow this electoral cycle to come to an end, so as to not distract the Party. And, no one can question the outcome. You must lay on your bed in same exact manner as you make it. You reap what you sow. APGA failed because of the lack of leadership and greed at the highest of levels in the state. We aren’t different from the other Parties. If APGA must be different, it must be seen to be really different.

“We need to immediately reconcile every faction in the state. We must be all out to restrengthen and reposition Party ndi Igbo na Abia state. And, it starts now. Let everyone holding a position within the Party going forward realize that it is about building and not for receiving peanuts as occupants of the offices. This said, I am expecting you to step down forthwith and allow another person lead the change that our Party needs”.

Politics / Imo Stakeholders List What Ihedioha Must Do To Gov. Okorocha by jamesnews0001: 6:38pm On Mar 24, 2019
Five socio-political organizations under the umbrella of Imo Salvation Forum, ISF, have said that they have submitted a comprehensive document known as Imo Salvation Charter to the state’s Governor-elect, Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha.
The groups said the document contains some of the major demands of Imo people from his administration in the next four years, which begins from 29 May, 2019.

Ihedioha was announced as the winner of the March 9 governorship election in Imo State, having defeated his closest rival Uche Nwosu with over 83,000 votes.

Reading a communiqué to journalists after a meeting that took place on Chidi Akurunwa Street, Port Harcourt Road, Owerri, on Sunday, the stakeholders said their first line charge in the 10-point document submitted to the Governor-elect, is a probe of the out-going Governor, Rochas Okorocha, which must begin as soon as he takes over Douglas House.

The national coordinator of the Forum, Chief Finbar Chidubem A, who is also the President General of Imo Prosperity Network, IPN, read the communiqué and said that with the emergence of Hon. Ihedioha as governor-elect, Imo has been liberated from Rochas Okorocha and his misrule.

He added, however, that there was the need to set agenda for the in-coming governor so that he would be properly guided on the major aspirations of the people that gave him mandate.

He said, “We are here to inform you, gentlemen of the press, that we have formally submitted a 10-point document known as Imo Salvation Charter to the governor-elect.

“In the first place, we drew the attention of His Excellency to the fact that the election of March 9, 2019 that overthrew Rochas Okorocha was a massive revolution in which the people were determined to make whatever sacrifice that was necessary to bring an end to the primitive dynasty that he wanted to entrench in Imo.

The main opposition candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Plateau State, Senator Jeremiah Useni has rejected the final outcome of the result of the gubernatorial election and has vowed to reclaim his mandate in the tribunal.
He also assured the citizenry and the teaming party supporters in the State that the party will pursue the matter diligently.

Useni stated this while addressing journalists in Jos, the State Capital.

It would be recalled that in the early hours of Sunday, the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) had declared the incumbent Governor and candidate of the APC, Simon Lalong, winner of the election, after polling 595, 587 votes, while his closest rival and candidate of the main opposition PDP, Senator Jeremiah Useni, got 546, 813 votes.

The PDP candidate, however said, “My team and I have gone through both the official results released by INEC and documents submitted by our own field staff; we have every reason to believe that justice has not been done to our people in this election, because there was massive rigging and electoral shortcomings.

“After due consultation, I hereby state that the results announce by INEC is not acceptable to us.

“Consequently, we have requested our legal team to activate all the due processes to reclaim our cherished mandate.”

“I give you my word that we will pursue this matter diligently, and by the grace of God, we will overturn and recover the peoples mandate”, Useni assured.
