After reading all the post on this thread i will first salute everyone for their individual contributions, but as a group i will like us to see things differently, even as we are driven by our emotions the truth is that there is a comon enemy and we all need to identify and fight this enemy. The enemy might just be online and reading all the posts on this thread and feeling good that others are been blamed for his actions and will possibly have satifaction of accomplishment thus will be willing to strike again. You never can tell cos every criminal wants to asses his actions by other peoples reaction, or how can we explain the incesant killings. My suggestion is that we all become vigillant, report any suspicious person to the authorities and even post such reports on nairaland. If we all do this then there will be no hidding place for criminals. Three weeks ago there was an abandoned vehicle on my street on the 3rd day we informed the police about it only for us to discover later that the vehicle was stolen from isolo, Lagos by armed robbers. That's exactly what i mean we can all compliment the system and force it to work.

It's so sad to hear that even at modern times like this some companys still discriminate on reasons even the company's MD can not explain. I am also an HND holder, but in my company career paths are clearly marked out so descrimination is not an issue, the employee decides on which career path to tow and your choice will entirely be your own responsibility to either work smart and harder to become a top flyer or lazy about and remain at the bottom of the ladder irrespective of your degree/HND where applicable.

I have known Tony Elumelu in the early 90's when he was a manager in former Allstates trust bank at Trans-Amadi Port Harcourt, he was actually a very intelligent & a smart guy and i have had couple of one-on-one interactions with him then, but at that time i never noticed anything like any form of descrimination linked to him, because a couple of HND holders were directly under him and those of them that were had working, were on the top flyer list irrespective of the degree they posses, and even when he finally left Allstates trust bank for standard trust bank he took along most of the good hands both HND/BSc holders given everyone equal opportunity. Bankers holding HND/BSc were well paid and i envied them so much.

But my question now is WHERE did Tony pick up this ungodly attitude from, that he is now been labelled as a 'SLAVERY MASTER'? could it be a common practice within the banking industry? if so how can we change this mindset that people should be giving equal opportunities in whatever they aspire to do and a common tool should be used for assesment on both HND/degree counterparts. Sometimes why things are not working in this country is as a result of such descriminations cos an organisation that descriminates it's work force will certainly have a poor delivery. Tony Elumelu should take note.

First of all i will like to commend admiral he has spoken very well but i want us to understand one basic truth, a lot of people have made post on this thread based on salary comparison with either oil companies or other sectors but what we forget about salaries is that they are not very stable, things change at will and so the financial structure of organisations change alongside.

I changed my job in 2000 because another company doing thesame business with my former company offered me 5,000 naira higher for doing exactly thesame kind of job and also occuping thesame position. I left for the new company but 2 years along the line i discovered that my collegues in my former company was now earning double my salary with better conditions of service, i initially felt bad then but sooner realised that my former company was almost going out of business as a result of that had to lay off 1/4 of her work force, a lot of my friends lost their jobs and were thrown back into the labour market. It was then i realised that salary offers are not very stable and we need to base our ambitions to reflect truely on those things we love doing and not just because of how much money we think we can get from an organisation cos sometimes you may never get the kind of money you expected and moreso our motivations and drives are also different.

To the poster i'll advice you try understand what exactly you think you want to do if you want to join the military then prepare for it or else look the other way, sometimes we look for money in all the wrong places, i've heard a lot of people say that only if they can get a job in the oil companies there lives would be made but i tell you guys oil companies do not make lives they are just business people like any other person, i ve been with the oil gas for 5years now and i'll tell you the truth, let's just becareful in our expectations.
