Education / Re: How Can I Further With A Third Class? by Japheth17: 6:00pm On Oct 02, 2022
Itooweak4una:
Good day nairalanders
I'm a third class graduate in philosophy. I only choose to study to study the course after several failed attempt to study my desired course despite having a good jamb score. It was when my school changed my preferred course to philosophy i knew for the first time in my that philosophy is being studied in the university. I have been waiting long for admission and I don't want to keep staying home so i accepted it but after my first year i began to lose interest in the course and i got depressed. It really affected me mentally. Hence the poor grade.

Now, I'm 25 years currently serving and I am aware that the possibility of me ever getting a good job with that kind of certificate is highly slim especially with philosophy as my discipline. My mum has been asking me what is my plans after service and I am confused myself. Although, I have learn photography and I'm quite good at it but i haven't started earning from it. Besides, my mum is someone that values certificate over skills. So, she has been asking me if i can go for masters with my result which i usually assure her that it's possible.

The reason i bought this here is because she wants me to do the masters abroad (if possible Uk). Personally i want to do the masters in another course, preferably mass communication. So, I want to know if it's possible. How can i go about it? Which country is it best for me to go study? And aside from all these what else can i do as a third class graduate?

I'll be rounding up my service next year February. I am really confused on what to do next. cry Thank you
I understand you perfectly bro.
I graduated with a third class too (English and literary studies)
And considering the lack of jobs in Nigeria, a third class is almost like a death sentence.

I'm trying to "tech up" and I'd advise that you do the same.
No one would give you a chance bro, even jobs that set aptitude tests for job applicants, won't even allow you sit for the test.

Just try as much as possible to attach more value to yourself, skill up and clean yourself up (that's what I'm trying to do myself), hopefully we get to turn out alright in life.

Cheers

alx Africa is genuine.
I didn't finish my virtual assistant program due to data and financial constraints.

I'd like to hit the gym too. How did you go about it? Is capital a barrier?

Being intentional about the gym helped me.
I'd advise people to take their fitness seriously, because the psychological benefits is so much worth the pain.

Capital a barrier to gym?
No.

About the alx-africa, can I send a mail?

Life always gives us chances as much as we want as long as we are willing to work to be better. So, don't despair. As I said, there's always light at the end of the tunnel. Endeavour to see challenges as stepping stones.

Oh, and yes, ALX Africa is legit. In your spare time, check them out. You won't regret it. All the best to you.
Thank you

You can always achieve what you set your amazing mind to do. Sometimes with pain, and so much effort, buts its a Journey, and the Journey is as important as the destination.

Thank you so much.
I'm trying to be a better man.
I just hope one recruiter would give me a chance, just one.

Not to make jest of you, but if there's one chance I appreciate that nature took back from me, it is the chance not to have attended school despite how early I set out in life. I had my first admission to study Law when I was 16.

If I had gone to school at the time I did, I would have graduated with a 3rd class, may have bowed to peer pressure to belong, or even lost focus going by my antecedent exuberance. I was a habitual truant, had ADHD, was a big snub, and was very proud (still a bit, although in check). I would have stepped on so many toes. Got into trouble. Missed classes. Not focused on studies.

I am an adult now and have a diploma. Although I ought to have achieved far better than I presently have if circumstances were right, I would say that I'm now more emotionally intelligent and independent, so I, therefore, understand the law of cause and effect should I do things wrong and also liable for being held responsible if I had failed or passed. So, it's now more of a blessing in disguise than a regret.

Hold on strong. Learn viable IT skills. There's always light at the end of the tunnel.

Thank you for this!
You literally described me.
I got admission at 16, I was young.
God knows my parents tried their best (they still are), but the lure Owerri had on a naive young boy like me was too much to ignore.
I also suffer from ADHD

I finished in 2016, I would be rounding up service by next month (I would be 27)

I still believe that degree is not for me, i am currently an undergraduate at NOUN, studying criminology.

I gym now as it helps me focus (it's what works for me!)

I hope life gives me just one more chance sha..

But thank you

About the tech industry, how legit is alx-africa?
I've been hearing about them...

If I had known I'd have reduced my cocky attitude back then in the university and I would never have come out with a 3rd class.
Imagine coming from a poor family with no connection and having a 3rd class degree.

I can say it was youthful exuberance, but it's still my fault 100%
(I was not a cultist, I was just nonchalant and over confident)
