Politics / Babangida Governed Nigeria The Worst Way He Could by jara: 8:45pm On Dec 24, 2023
Only in Nigeria would IBB brag about his rule:

Murtala Mohammed gave up the loot he made during the Nigerian Civil War and paid with his life trying to clean up corruption. Obasanjo, the most benevolent dictator Nigeria ever had, said it: if Jesus Christ came down to Nigeria, he would be corrupt. So in his second coming as civilian President, he looted his own share of national cake. Gowon, became as poor as Obasanjo after his first reign as military Head of State. But under Ibrahim Banbangida, in a single audacious scoop, the $12 billion Oil Windfall disappeared in a jiffy. IBB, the first Head of State linked to the drug mule: Gloria Okon disappeared. IBB supported the Police and Army “family allowance” at roadside checkpoints. He canceled Nigeria fairest Election audaciously.

Politics / Whoever Gloats When You Are Down Will Bury You Next by jara: 11:10pm On Dec 22, 2023
When Nairaland was down, many missed it so much, they wonder what they could do to bring it back.

Others missed it so much, as the place they get news, information, culture, romance etc; they lost their recreational activities.

While many celebrated on other social media claiming they brought down and would be gone for a long time or kill it completely.

They have done exactly that for other Nigerian social media thinking their new endeavors would catch fire. Alas, they lack what it takes like educated consumers, number and penchant to make it.

Nairaland is back, and they came back mingling where they are not invited instead of opening their own threads. They are still threatening brimstone and fire.

Look, neither Jews nor Arabs tolerate Africans since the early past centuries when Afrucans ruled them.

After Arabs and later European slave trade, Africans have become sugarcane laborers, domestic slaves and worse, since it is Africans that used their life savings to surrender to them as dutiful slaves.

Nigerians even beat their chests proudly and label their villages derogatory names.

Common now. This pride of some Nigerians natural fairer comes from inferiority complex. No Nigerian group are fairer than the Fulani and the Itshekiri. They hardly make noise about fair skin.

Indeed, Nigerians around the coast in the 50s saw an increase in fair skin children because of foreign sailors. In the early 80s Arabs and Tuaregs beggars beseeched the South and their children became easy preys for motor park touts. The children grew up and became actresses and wives.

On top of that, even fair skin ladies bleech! Those old enough know the parents of Bianca. They were not fairer than other Nigerians.

When Ojukwu could no longer service her, since woman's body no be fired wood, she did what many active woman would do.

Her beauty as that of many ladies, has captured the praise of Simps here that would complain about how they were taken advantage of.

All she is doing is kissing the rings as (General) Ojukwu did on his tour of the North when he came back from exile.

There is no doubt that corruption has eaten most people deep in Nigeria and touched the working class, the majority of whom are poor.

Anyone that thinks Ghana is corruption free is in for a surprise or naive.

We must qualify corruption in both countries but please do not defend Nigeria in the faces of victims.

Ghana is also corrupt, indeed many African countries, but far less than Nigeria. . When you think about population, corruption is overwhelming in Nigeria.

The lady is one of the many victims, do not argue with her.

Why did Nigeria’s Paris Club debt balloon by $23 billion over 20 years when debt owed to other creditors fell by more than half? In brief, the Paris Club creditors stopped making new loans to Nigeria because they disliked the country’s military dictatorship. The bulk of the $23 billion increase represents interest arrears, interest charged on these arrears, and penalties that accumulated after 1992 when the Paris Club creditors refused to negotiate a debt workout for political reasons, compounded by adverse exchange rate changes. Less than $400 million of the debt represents post-1985 borrowing.

Seriously, they are the foreign International investors like Procter and Gamble that decided to join easy women of virtue as importers, you call that salvation? Indeed, Nigeria had enough to contribute as a potential Regional Power to world investment growth rather than the Poverty Capital of the world. Anyone that tells you foreign capital is needed to develop Africa in the 21st Century is using diversionary tactics to enrich his pockets. It is the same solutions they have been selling for the past centuries as each African country becomes poorer. There is simply no demonstrative or empirical evidence to back up the parasitic propaganda in Africa.

The amount of money transactions made by Africans in the Diaspora to their countries surpass foreign aid or loan. But no matter how long it took the Africans in the Diaspora to work for the money sent home or how much; black market exchange takes place instantly, on the street without going to the bank. So, we are not surprised that the amount of foreign money laundered out illegally and legally far outweighs the money coming in as Foreign Aids and Investments.

The fact that African leaders bought into this vicious circle for centuries even after Slavery, only indicates that they are not better than the chiefs that sold them into Slavery in the first place. There is much more to gain from capitalism than sheer exploitation of the masses, sharing national cake at the top. Even the chronic capitalists have come to realize that without welfare of the poor and working classes, the rich would have nobody to eat but themselves. There would be another Bacon Revolution as in 17 Century Virginia.

Foreign income that should have been used as local capital investments are diverted to open liberal markets for imports that are useless for youth development, infrastructure, industrial estates, education and hospitals essentially needed to provide an enabling environment for primary industries to produce basic needs. The excuse that the population of Nigeria is too big and the wealth would only make a difference to a few ruling class, ignore the old Asian famine that ravaged countries like China, India or Indonesia where the face of abject poverty have shifted to Nigeria.

https://www.thenigerianvoice.com/news/328339/solution-use-local-capital-for-investments-not-tied-up-dive.html

So, where do we start or end with local capital flight? Once soldiers of fortune took over an African country or staged palace coups they became armed robbers in the Central Banks aided by professionals. Politicians and Militricians compete in a race to the bottom looting every allocation in sight. Even when the soldiers handed over to politicians, they stood on their shoulders, demanded contracts, kickbacks and poured money into bottomless pits, such as the Ajaokuta Steel Mill. The diversionary tactics to local investments by begging for foreign aids and budgets on foreign loans indoctrinated Africans to believe running to Sugarcane Plantations around the world is their only way to Salvation. Once in foreign countries you live, survive, and die on their terms. They despised you as invalids that cannot rescue themselves.

Murtala Mohammed gave up the loot he made during the Nigerian Civil War and paid with his life trying to clean up corruption. Obasanjo, the most benevolent dictator Nigeria ever had, said it: if Jesus Christ came down to Nigeria, he would be corrupt. SOLUTION: USE LOCAL CAPITAL FOR INVESTMENTS NOT TIED UP DIVERSIONARY AIDS/LOANS

We wanted to crucify poor General Yakubu Gowon as a Head of State when he said Money was not Nigeria’s problem but how to spend it. In retrospect, the good General was right. Nigeria made relatively huge foreign income since the 1972 Oil Embargo while we watch helplessly and blame one another for laundering all the money on foreign imports. Capital took a flight from all resource rich African countries in exchange for glitters, kickbacks and indoctrination. No country in the world has an open liberal market for imports except African resource rich countries. When foreign Loans/Aids give credit cards facilities to boost their own markets, we celebrate and praise open free markets not available in any Western countries.

We encouraged and advocated free liberal markets tied to foreign aids and loans, like credit cards given to African drunken sailors to import all we want including pins, used goods or materials and junks stranded on high seas. Yet, there is enough capital in Oil Exporting countries to invest and lend cheaper at home in order to turn Africa around. Rather than going cap in hand begging for conditional foreign aid and investment, an intentional diversionary tactic. Mainly in exchange for attracting laundered, stolen and divested money. Available money badly needed to raise African countries beyond the standard of Arab countries.

Despite the uprising, civil and proxy wars going on in the Middle East, they are not in abject poverty Africans find themselves. No country in the whole world made money after the 1972 Oil Embargo and became the Poverty Capital of the world. Say what you want about Arab leaders' luxurious way of life and corruption, they delivered their people from poverty despite religious extremists. The most profitable endeavor in African countries remains politics that open up the Central Bank for looting at gunpoint, loot allocations, salaries and outright flagrant embezzlement within the ruling class. Therefore, everyone wants to be paid like politicians.

Family / Honor Your Mother Father & Children Do Not Abuse Them by jara: 7:44pm On Dec 04, 2023
MOST PARENTS LOVE & RESPECT ADULT CHILDREN THAT MAY NOT LOVE THEM

There are many reasons to respect our adult children when they are focused and well behaved but hardly any reason to fear them. All cultures preach respect and honor for our parents especially in their old age. It is the responsibility of parents to take care and provide for children. When we can, children should take care of their parents and if they are not able, show them kindness and love, even if they are financially independent.

Women have to be protected, not only from abusive husbands but also from their own sons that may have gone haywire. The same children some women suffered for in abusive relationships so that they can have a man at home. There is no superwoman strong enough in a single family home. But it is even worse if the woman ends up maimed or dead in any abusive relationship.

One horrible video that went viral of a young man that beat and abused his mother was enough to haunt most people. The men and Youths in the community tied him to a tree and caned him appropriately. We do not beat or hardly abuse our parents in Africa. When young adults become unreasonable and uncomfortably distant from their parents, it is time to part ways. No matter what, unlucky mothers realize that the respect and fear of the husbands they rejected, may have been passed on to an unruly son.

There are also good and conscientious men out there who have never beaten their wives but suffer from neglect. Broke and dejected after spending all their goodwill and life savings on families that turned out to be ingrates. Many women would bear the fault of their children, especially sons for habits they hardly tolerate from husbands. Yet, women rightly depend on fathers to discipline erring kids. Some adult children hold this against their fathers.

Nevertheless, parents fear unpredictable behavior of some children, especially their sons. It gets worse when the father is absent. Grown children are just more difficult for single parents to nurture. Providing for children in single family homes may require two or three jobs taking parents out of the house most of the time. Without adults at home, children take to the unpredictable jungle and drugs in the mean streets.

The world is changing and some parents are losing control of their children before they become adults. A son may become more domineering than his father, claiming to be the new man of the house. As soon as they start making a little money, though not enough to take care of themselves, some of them grow wings. But if either of their parents threaten to kick them out, they complain of an unkind father. Strong single parent mothers are overwhelmed.

Some of these sons exploit it as a weakness or love of their mothers. Even when children make more money than their parents, they may take advantage of their old lady by asking for favors from the little money mothers have. Since their fathers would query some bad spending habits more than mothers. By the time they leave home, children of the middle class would come home and raid the goodies at their parents' home.

The mothers are always happy to be generous while their children's poor colleagues would furnish the homes of parents with groceries and more. Some parents may end up living with their children because they moved back home or one of the parents may move in with one of their children to babysit since she may be too old to live alone. It is much easier for the mothers than the fathers.

The rules change and are more complicated especially for parents that used to be in charge of their own houses. Moving in with sons, some little competition for the attention of their sons arise. Son may be torn between them, usually between wife and mother. It gets complicated or frivolous when the wife and the mother demand to sit beside their husband or son (in the car). By the way, it happens everywhere, though rare in Africa.

We may not generalize but family sanity is much better in Africa than for Africans in the Diaspora. It was U.S President Reagan Housing Secretary Patricia Harris that said she did not just stop being the slave of the white man just to become the slave of the Black man. Well, some sons in Africa and the world missed that memo. Women did not stop being the slave of husbands only to be cowed by their sons. Indeed strong women would not take from their sons the behavior they rejected from husbands.

Mothers are easier to manipulate or manage than fathers. They are also more useful at home than fathers. When mothers are staying with their adult children's family, they help out in the house cooking and babysitting while husband and wife are working. But the fathers hardly stay long with their children's family or help out in the house. There is not enough room in the ship for two captains. One must stand down.

There are enough warnings out there that fathers should save some money they would need when the time comes. Since the fathers are not as useful to their children as the mothers in their adult years, he may become lonely in his old age. Most fathers spend all their time working in order to make enough to take care of families. Those wealthy enough go beyond the call of duty, send their children overseas for "good education" that turned sour.

Unfortunately, what they considered good education abroad alienated their children from African culture, a duty to parents especially in their old age by miseducation. These children only come back home on short holidays or whenever either of the parents passes away. In short, they become a lost generation. They are hardly tolerated or respected abroad and in most cases underemployed working under natives that are far less educated or as qualified.

There are enough warnings to men that women have come a long way. They are no longer the mothers they grew up with. So, men are advised to prepare for their old age and make adequate preparation for their physical and financial health. No matter how much contribution a man made to the family, only a fool will compete for the attention of children with their mother. How for do nah!

Meanwhile, children bring their mothers closer to their homes in Africa or overseas as they desert their fathers. If these fathers keep enough money for their old age, they can afford to hire help around the house. Other fathers may even marry a younger wife that will take care of their needs. But only if he does not fall into the wrong hands of another "chop and go: igi da eye fo".

Amodu Tijani’s Case: Awori Idejo Chiefs Own Every Land In Eko

Amodu Tijani’s case against the secretary to the government of Southern Nigeria was the watershed legal event in 1921 by which the ownership of Lagos lands was decided in favour of natives. Amodu Tijani, the chief Oluwa of Lagos was an Idejo chief whose influence extended to several villages and towns in the Lagos area in the early 20th Century. Beyond his membership of the Lagos aristocracy, Amodu made inputs in the formation of the nationalist movement cutting across West African states, the National Council of British West Africa, (NCBWA) which in its inaugural meeting in March 1920 called for increased representation of natives in African affairs.

In 1921, Amodu Tijani sued the government of the Southern Nigeria for lands at Apapa which he had been compelled to release. With the help of Herbert Macaulay, the astute son of Babington Macaulay, he had pushed his case to the Privy Council, the senior court in the British Empire and highest court of appeal for colonies. The council ruled that the 1861 cession of Lagos did not affect the character of the private native rights. This effectively overruled the Nigerian Supreme Court decision, which had denied his petition against the confiscation of his land. In Lagos, Tijani’s case enjoyed wide support of the people and the king, Eleko of Eko entrusted to Macaulay, Amodu’s temporary minister, the Opa Adehun silver staff which his father had been given by the British in recognition of his office in 1861.

Operation Declare your Assets or Forfeit your Surplus

Please let us stop chasing the ghost, cut the chase and go after the individual surplus. Every Nigerian knows where the money is. We know there is even more money outside the Country, foreign Governments have been sensitized to the source and they are now embarrassed as receiver of stolen properties. The problem is those conspicuous spenders who are spending the money in our face, living it in our face and no one can query them. Actually, Obasanjo had to negotiate with one to keep some stolen millions to avoid lengthened litigation, only to renege on the terms of his release.

Once upon a time, a Nigerian would take ten percent kickback from the central Government contract, but never from the local area where everybody knows everybody. Time has changed. Conspicuous spenders have taken over. They are encouraged by praise singers who eulogize them. There are two ways to dislodge their ill gotten surplus – 1. By revolution or 2. By due process.

There has to be due process. It has to be done with human face so that it does not become a class or an ethnic thing. I do not think Jerry Rawlings is better than those he killed in Ghana in the name of revolution.

No need going in circles just for argument sake.

1. Point to any benevolent Mentor for all Nigerians that was not furthering the sole interest of his ethnic base - apart from Herbert Macauley.

2. Mention Activists from any part of Nigeria fighting for all, apart from an ethnic parochial interest by numbers greater than Yoruba.

3. Who took on and force Ahmadu Bello to campaign in the North, established Opposition Party in the North and the East, apart from Action Group?

4. What is the cause of Akintola's revolt but insisting that Awo must form Alliance with the North instead of the East. Akintola was right, Yoruba cannot be comfortable in Opposition while Zik negotiated with Balewa, Shagari (Ekueme), had notice about Nzeogwu coup while Ironsi and Ojukwu protected him (Nzeogwu)?

5. Who are the Unity Beggars?

Yoruba Youths realized lack of reciprocity and told their parents: Your Mumu Don Do!

Get your point straight.

Tofa came from nowhere, was not even known in the North or Nigeria but the East voted for him over Abiola whose philanthropy included everywhere including East before the Election.

Ojukwu never had an electoral value. He joined the same Northern Party that ran him out of the country and lost senatorial election to an unknown.

Even then, as APGA Presidential candidate, the East voted for him..

This is not the first time Yoruba voted against their sons that lack their Values System. They also voted against OBJ who lost his own local constituency at home.

Akintola was voted against but he was not a Presidential candidate. Get the difference?

Tinubu was a Governor of Lagos State but he lost to Peter Obi in Lagos and lost to Atiku in Osun. Respect Yoruba, if not for anything, on principle and Values System.

Imagine Kayode Adam's, the UNILAG student activist and others insisting on Njoku instead of Biobaku?

Mordecai:

Not true.

In 2003, the SE voted Obasanjo of PDP even when Emeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu of APGA was on the ballot.

In 1993, various parts of the North voted MKO despite Tofa being on the ballot.
