Politics / Honeymoon Period For Tinubu Is Due Like Most New Leaders by jara: 10:13pm On Jun 17, 2023
HONEYMOON PERIOD FOR TINUBU IS DUE LIKE MOST NEW LEADERS

Nigerians have just elected a new leader. No matter our differences with Tinubu as a person, his character or our party affiliation; we should accord him the goodwill and benefit of doubt given to new leaders for the hope of a better country. Africans have had their share of bad leaders but Nigerians always have this optimistic view of new leaders, even the military ones: he go better. It could be an indication of how bad the situation had been before they came.

The first coup d'etat by Nzeogwu gave hope after condemning the corruption of our “ten percenters". Some jubilation and humiliation followed while others watched until Nzeogwu was betrayed by his comrades. All the leaders were going to be eliminated. They spared certain leaders. A grave self-inflicted wound that led to counter coups. Nobody has monopoly on force, threats and deadly force without repercussions. It resulted in a false start.

By the time Gowon took over, people had been traumatized. Only the benefit of doubt remained. Gowon promised no victors, no vanquished at the end of the Civil War. We had a series of military and civilian governments after, with the wish that one of them would restore Nigeria to its glorious days and hope for Africa’s Regional Power. Nigeria has not recovered from the bad legacy of the horrible war.

Most new governments enjoy a honeymoon but a section of the Country wants to make sure Tinubu fails from day one. So far, in less than a month, Tinubu has impressed most of the people including those that did not vote for him in his Osun home state and his adopted state of Lagos. When you win an Election, the President must cater for those that voted for and against him. We don't have to agree on everything. But failure is not an option at this point.

Nevertheless, the Country must move on either by granting the aspiration of the people for a federated state or into confederated nations. The days of Unity Beggars are gone because people are weary and tired of blackmails. Nigerians still love one another but the noise of hate and uncompromised aspirations have confounded the Silent Majority ruled by extremists. Their goal is to get what they want by any means necessary without building bridges.

It has not stopped some of the Youths, especially those from the Eastern and Western part of the Country from going after one another on social media. It has not spilled onto the street and we all pray that it will never get to that point. The political rivalry is mostly manifested in the Western part of the country where people from different states have traditionally been elected into City councils, the House in the state and at the Federal level. Regardless of non-Native concentration in an area, it hardly happened outside the West.

Unfortunately, the opposition to the new President is mostly coming from the South-Eastern Youths. They are galvanizing support by threats and deadly force in their areas declaring curfew whenever they feel like. This menacing threat has not spread to other states. But in a country where many people are related one way or the other, including by marriage, many innocent folks are affected. It should not have gotten to this point 50 years after the Civil War.

When people believe and feel they have not been accepted into the mainstream, we must listen, no matter how serious or justified their grievance. The people and the country must move on while those aggrieved must ask for demonstration of goodwill from the President, not Interim Government. The people of Lagos and Osun states that voted against Tinubu have accepted the reality on the ground hoping for the return to a prosperous country. Brothers and sisters in other states must reconcile and join hands with other Nigerians.

Even when you disagree with a new President, during the honeymoon period, you can be constructive, not disagreeable. Take the case of floating the Naira, a “simple” problem of Demand and Supply. Nigerians depend on foreign currencies to buy necessary and useless unproductive items from overseas as if the Country's ability to print dollars and euros could meet demand. Instead of facing this reality: complicated, bogus and superfluous theories taught in world's famous universities including local ones are postulated as solutions.

Most politicians have been floating the naira when it was one to one under matured supervision to the point of 1 to 600 today; with no end to devaluation in sight. Though they do not make their income overseas, they exhaust the meager income made from selling natural resources. Though during the Election, the three Presidential candidates promised to end petroleum subsidies. They still attack Tinubu for doing so.

The same Western world that controls their currencies by manipulation of the market, preaches a free market to African countries in order to buy their natural resources cheap. Everyone is aware that no country can satisfy Africans demand for the currencies they cannot print. The last time Nigerian pound or naira had an appreciable value of one to one pound or one naira to one and a half US dollars; control exerted worldwide was in place in Nigeria.

It is universally insanity to continue floating your currency for over 50 years, and to keep on doing the same expecting a different result. No country in the world freely floats its currency but African countries are always given that advice in the name of the free market. Indeed, there is no free market. American politicians campaign on, made and manufactured in the USA. While Africans desire very little of what is manufactured or made in their own countries.

Western countries print money without Gold backing that are used to create demand for Western goods and services at their dictated prices. Whenever it's advantageous to their economy, their currencies are manipulated stronger or weaker to corner the market. Therefore, African currencies only get weaker, never stronger.

When Americans and European politicians realized that objective economists are threatening their advantageous relationship in the domination of world currency, they introduced Structural Adjustment to devalue the African currencies so that African natural resources can be bought for little or in exchange for "Foreign Aid". It was even more surprising that Western trained economists bought the Structural Adjustment urging Africans to adopt it to their detriment!

If Western countries railed on China for not playing fair by manipulating their currency in order to sell their manufactured products cheaply, it is pure hypocrisy to tell Africans with little world demand for manufactured goods and services to sell their finite land and natural resources cheap. African countries have little artificial manufactured goods the world demands and buy in exchange for their local currencies.

Dangote indicated sometimes ago that he would no longer need Central Bank for dollars since he would be generating enough foreign income.

Well take him up since he, Otedola, Ibeto, Innoson, the international corporations and big boys get their lion share from Central Bank. Give them license to open kiosk as in the Western countries to sell dollars competing for the best rate.

Our International stars generating foreign incomes should also be encouraged to do so. Anyone else selling dollars or any foreign currency must declare where and how they got it.

This will push Central Bank out of chosing winners and become competitive. In other words, show us where and how you are getting your foreign currencies. This is the real meaning of floating, not black or privileged markets.

Nairaland / General / Defense Mechanism: Our Fighting Spirit Enable Life Survival by jara: 2:19pm On May 29, 2023
DEFENSE MECHANISM: OUR FIGHTING SPIRIT ENABLE LIFE SURVIVAL

There is no substitute for love of relatives and friends. Our love for one another is paramount but we cannot be blinded or take the rewards for granted before euphoria sets in. It is at this point where we are caught unaware and flat footed. At the same time, we cannot be on alert all the time, weakening our defense mechanisms that are needed in case of real threats.

Unfortunately, many people have succumbed without adequate defense mechanisms because we did not learn how to prevent, run or move far away from threats. We must distinguish the times to run from times to fight back when pushed to the wall. Every animal has its defense mechanism to preserve its life against internal and external threats.

We use defense mechanisms to fight diseases internally and other threats externally as flight or fight. Many of us learned more about this during Covid-19 invasion of our bodies. The body has to fight for survival or die. When cancer infects the most valuable part of our body, we are advised to cut it off before the disease can metastasize to all parts of the body.

Regressive behavior and bullying have been resurrected, even in the so-called civilized climes. It is so worrying, some people see another civil war within or a new world war. The cause of the anxiety are a few block heads bent on control of people around them or sacrificing many more people at the ritual of wars. We experience it in Sudan and Ukraine again.

The world is on edge terrifying and denying resources and solace to the most vulnerable: children, Youths and the old. These devils are spreading out into Diaspora after killing their African communities to repeat and spread the same venom within their relatives, friends and communities. Many individuals lurking in our midst as sincere relatives and friends are actually devils in disguise.

Politics / Build Bridges To Become The Nex President by jara: 1:56pm On May 16, 2023
I have this fear that even if Tinubu only do one term, it will be difficult to become the next President if other groups are alienated by vicious insults.

The road to the Presidency takes years of preparation, wooing and reciprocal exchanges.

We know the definition of insanity of doing the same thing since the 50s and expecting different results.

Awolowo Bent On Alliance With Ndi-Igbo Against All Odds Than Be Released From Prison Yet They Hated Him More Than Ever Even In His Grave

In the course of my evidence during my trial, I stated that my Party favoured and was actively working for alliance with the N.C.N.C. as a means, among other things, of solving what I described as ‘the problem of Nigeria’, and strengthening the unity of the Federation. In October 1963 (that is about a month after my conviction and while my appeal to the Supreme Court was still pending), a Peace Committee headed by the Chief Justice of the Federation, Sir Adetokunbo Ademola, made overtures to me through my friend Alhaji W. A. Elias to the effect that if I abandoned my intention to enter into alliance with the N.C.N.C. which, according to the Committee, was an Ibo Organisation, and agreed to dissolve the Action Group and, in co-operation with Chief Akintola (now deceased), form an all-embracing Yoruba political party which I would lead and which would go into alliance with the N.P.C., I would be released from prison before the end of that year. I turned down these terms because I was of the considered opinion that their acceptance would further widen and exacerbate inter-tribal differences, and gravely undermine the unity of the Federation

Wickedness led Edo to ask Ooni of Ife for Oba. The same wickedness drove Anioma, Urhobo, Itsekiri and Ijaw out.

The announcement of the Ukrainian Embassy in Nigeria that Nigerians who are volunteering to travel to Ukraine to fight the Russian forces must provide $1,000 for tickets and visas has drawn out various reactions from Nigerians particularly on social media.
The Ukrainian embassy which had its premises occupied by numerous Nigerians who expressed readiness to join the Ukrainian side said that in addition to the money needed for airfare and visa by these volunteers, proof of evidence of military experience, passports among others are expected to be provided.
The Ukrainian Embassy official revealed that the $1,000 cost is a result of the difficulty in travelling to Ukraine since the closure of the airspace due to the war.

FALSE HOPE & VIOLENCE MOTIVATE YOUTHS TO FLEE ABROAD

Sudan leaders powerplay today is not different from Somali, Rwanda, Sierra Leone or Biafra/Nigeria wars. It has blinded our Youths, desperately jumping from the frying pan into fire. They usually realize too late that they have an African country that can rescue them in Sudan, Somalia, Libya, Ukraine and Asian countries. While those in Nigeria wanted to fight for Ukraine until they were asked to pay to be recruited. It shows how cheap African life is.

Africa was progressing and building needed potential after Independence, we must constantly be reminded. Arrested development started when these same soldiers that were trained for acts of war and destruction of enemies fighting their countries, turned inwards against one another. They came as saviors but left as power hungry forces of mass destruction and mutilation fighting to legitimize themselves as popular civilian rulers through elections.

The Armed Forces would usually incorporate a hybrid of hand picked civilian governments that took orders and directions to implement their uninformed whims and caprices. It was the beginning of regression and the race to the bottom. The accomplishments of the founding fathers were embellished in the name of God and War Against Indiscipline as teasers. This brought the worst indiscipline and normalized forbidden culture of corruption.

If there was a place for any African and their foreign friends would rather be, it was Nigeria. Many scholars followed Kwame Nkrumah to Ghana, as many more also followed Herbert Macauley, Azikiwe and Awolowo to Nigeria. There was another Movement led by Marcus Garvey in the United States. The Activists proudly called it the Back To Africa Movement. Those led to the beginning days of the Africa renaissance: Say It Loud, I’m Black And Proud!

NEW YORK, April 17 (Reuters) - U.S. federal agents arrested two New York residents for allegedly operating a Chinese "secret police station" in the Chinatown district of Manhattan on Monday in what prosecutors said was part of a crackdown on Beijing's alleged targeting of dissidents.

Lu Jianwang, 61, and Chen Jinping, 59, face charges of conspiring to act as agents of China's government without informing U.S. authorities and obstruction of justice. They were released on bond following an initial appearance in Brooklyn federal court.

A 2022 investigation published by Spain-based advocacy group Safeguard Defenders reported that China had set up overseas "service stations," including in New York, that illegally worked with Chinese police to pressure fugitives to return to China

In the first place the question is about This Election, this is how you fail exams. But I have seen this excuses everywhere to hide and conflate others about your clannish instincts.

1. You intentionally voted Obasanjo in 1999, a Northern choice against Yoruba interest, Falaye.

2. You voted for Yaradua in 2007, Obasanjo's choice because he made a Biafran Azikiwe Jonathan his Vice-President. Just as you voted for Buhari and Atiku when they had Igbo Vice-president.

3. 2011 You voted for a fellow Biafran, Azikiwe Goodluck Jonathan chosen by Obasanjo. He delivered to you with powerful Igbo Cabinet. He called Obasanjo his benefactor a Motorpark Toute but placard Fulani with Santa Looter Danzuki.

4. 2019? You forgot Atiku Vice-president? Peter Obi!

5. Nnamdi Azikiwe took over from Herbert Macaulay, a Yoruba. Yoruba elected him to Western House from Lagos. Indeed, he was the leader of Lagos City Council. Yet, these Yoruba never listened that he was going to turn NCNC into Igbo Party.

Azikiwe cried that they did not make him Premier of Western Region. Like most Igbo, they would rather rule Yoruba than rule Nigeria.

Nobody except Igbo believe he gave Executive Prime Minister away to Tafawa Balewa to become Ceremonial President! Just to spite Yoruba.

Start from 1999. Because Hypocrisy and memory loss has beclouded your judgment.

1999 and 2003: Southeast voted for Obasanjo (Christian Yoruba)

2007: Southeast voted for Yar Adua (Northern Muslim)

2011 and 2015: Southeast voted for Goodluck Jonathan (Ijaw Christian)

2019: Southeast voted for Atiku ( Northern Muslim)

When has the north voted mostly for an Igbo man?

When has south west voted mostly for an Igbo man?

It's pure DELUSION to say Igbo people hate everyone. FACTs don't lie

The wake up call that Peter Obi won Lagos is a blessing in disguise. It proves that Yoruba and other parts of Nigeria are not as clannish as our brothers from South East that only voted for their own.

It also exposed Obi as dogmatic as most of his supporters. We thought he was different and better informed.

There is nothing Obasanjo crave more than being the greatest African known worldwide.

This is propelled by his very humble childhood. Most of the people that become famous despite their humble beginning become so after some achievement
They do not seek fame continually.

In fairness, OBJ already achieved a great deal but self doubt still instigate him. The man contributed as a soldier, military and civilian President.

This earned him the most detribalized Nigerian from the Igbo. As as he left Office, the Igbo attacked and ridiculed who brought them into powerful positions after the war. Nothing OBJ does now that would not make some Igbo kick him again.

In my humble opinion the definition of

word ‘forfeiture’ means the divestiture of property without compensation. The loss of a right, privilege, or property because of a crime, breach of obligation, or neglect of duty,”

Forfeiture in Tinubu's case in the United States must be interpreted in the Nigerian contest.

Just as the continued jailing of

Chinenye Ezewuzie in Peru as drug mule for Obi.

We should be ashamed as Nigerians we prefer drug peddlers and looters as President.
