Wondering why you have gotten no call back after applying for dozens of jobs? This is a full list of things TO DO & NOT TO DO when applying for a job. Please, kindly read and share with your friends. We have to do better. There's no reason to commit these blunders.


1. No Subject/Poor Subject.
Why would you send an email with no subject? Ensure that the point of your email is clear from your subject.

- Application for the Role of Cook.
- Application in Response to Twitter Call for Doctors.

Do not say "Dreaming of Traveling with You."


2. Greeting.

'Hi dear', 'Hi' and 'no greeting' are unacceptable. The first line of your email should say:

Dear Sir / Ma,
Dear Recruiter,
Dear Mr. Lagbaja,

The rudiments of a formal letter apply. After the salutation, you can go on to say 'Good day' or move on to the email.

3. Short forms / Grammar
Don't use short forms. Text talk is annoying by text, why would it be acceptable in a job email? Y wud u do dis? They taught us in nursery or primary that 'I' is always capitalized when standing alone. Always. This is not English - " I am so glad..."

4. Email Content - Part A
Your email should show the recruiter that you are interesting and that they should look forward to your CV or Cover Letter (CL). Summarize your skills (RELEVANT TO THE JOB) and what makes you stand out. Point to your CV & CL for more.

5. Email Content - Part B
Read through your email to ensure that there are no typos. Make sure the company name is spelled properly and cross-check your spellings. Pay attention to detail. It matters.


6. Closing.
End your email in one of the following ways:
Kind Regards,

Something along those lines. Don't end without closing and don't say something silly or too casual. Now is a good time to create a custom email signature.

7. Jokes.
I don't understand how cracking jokes sounds like a good idea. You're applying for a job...why would you crack jokes? This is a real DM I got from someone. I read it three or four times and shook my head. Very very bad idea!

8. Unnecessary Info.
Except where it matters, recruiters don't care about your photo, state of origin or religion. You will know if this is necessary for a job (models, religious orgs, etc). Otherwise, why does your CV have your state of origin? To do what with the info?

9. Follow Instructions.
Sometimes, you will be asked to do more. The above listed are the bare minimum. Follow the instructions provided. It really is that simple. Recruiters will toss out your CV because they only have time to read through those that follow instructions.

10. CV / Resume Name.
Why does your attachment have a silly name? E.g. The Real CV (do you have fake ones?) I understand that we save CVs in ways we remember. However, always choose NAME_TITLE_DATE or something like that. The date should help you remember how updated it is.

11. Please, make sure the CV you provide is relevant to the role. Take a few minutes to highlight your skills that are relevant to the job. Don't send a CV that has nothing, not even transferable skills, relevant to the job.

12. All the best. Recruiters are humans and have limited time. They also love to read about exciting people. Add links to relevant blogs or Social Media pages. RELEVANT ONES! If these pages will give them a better feel for you, do it.

Travel / What Nationality Is Given To A Baby Born On A Plane? by Jaradz: 4:40pm On Oct 26, 2018
Have you ever wondered what nationality is given to a baby born on a plane? If a baby is born on Delta Airlines to a Nigerian mother and a French father over Senegalese air space, and an emergency landing is made in Mauritania, what will her citizenship be?


1. This is a pretty fascinating issue to research. Most people are born on land, in an area that is clearly spelled out within the borders of a country. But what happens to the few people who are born on an international flight or ship? Let's dig in!

2. In the story, there are 4 factors that come to play: the nationality(ies) of the parents (French & Nigerian), the air space they are flying over (Senegalese), the country where the plane is registered (USA) and the first point of landing after the child is born (Mauritanian).

3. 1st Factor - Blood Right!

As soon as the child is born, she is automatically a French and a Nigerian citizen. Most countries (if not all) will grant citizenship to a child if at least one parent is a citizen of that country. This is known as jus sanguinis (right of blood).

4. Note that in some countries, the child does not automatically inherit the citizenship of her mother, if it is different from the citizenship of her father. In such countries, the mother's nationality is only given automatically if the father is unknown or is stateless.

5. 2nd Factor - Birth Right!

At the time of the child's birth, the airspace over which they were flying could come into play, but only if the country offers automatic citizenship to those who were born in its territories (jus soli - right of the soil).

6. Sometimes, jus soli is unconditional. Other times, it is conditional on residence requirements. So, it means that a child born over the airspace or within the territorial waters of a country with unconditional jus soli, can be granted citizenship of that country.

7. Unfortunately, in our story, Senegal does not offer unrestricted jus soli which means that the child does not automatically qualify for Senegalese citizenship by being born within the country's airspace.

8. Fun fact: the USA and Canada are the only two countries in the so-called "developed world" that still offer citizenship to anyone who was born there, whether your parents are legal aliens, citizens, illegal immigrants or residents.

9. 3rd Factor - Citizenship of the Plane!

Since the child was born on a Delta plane, the aircraft is likely registered in the USA. This technically means that the child was born in US territory - as the laws of the US apply on its planes. But there's a catch...

10. However, it is rare for countries to extend citizenship to a child simply because she was born on a plane registered in that country. The exception: if the child is born to stateless parents and does not have the option of taking the citizenship(s) of her parent(s).

11. 4th Factor - First Point of Landing!

When a child is born on a plane, there is often an emergency landing because new born babies are really not supposed to be flying. So, in our story, the plane had to land in Mauritania. Can the child get Mauritanian citizenship? Hmm...

12. This one is the rarest of them all but it is not impossible for a country to grant a baby citizenship if the first place she landed after birth was in that country. It will be granted on a case by case basis.

13. Plural Citizenship - It is important to note which countries allow dual or plural citizenship and which do not. Believe it or not, there are some countries that forbid dual citizenship so even if a child was technically, they will have to choose one and forfeit the other.

14. So, our sweet baby will be Nigerian & French. Live your best life, girl! The world belongs to you. I hope you grow up to become a geographer in thought and then shine light through whatever profession you choose.

LET ME TALK TO THE SINGLES

It is obvious that we all want to have a taste of marriage. We wish to marry and have our own kids. Many singles are really praying for this marriage even when they have no clue about it. Remove sex and romance out of marriage and most people become confused about what marriage is all about.
Look here, marriage is not where you rush to like it is an award night.
It is not a company that you are free to employ a manager to help you take care of it while you sit in your chair, with your legs crossed and a glass of wine on the table as a CEO.

But can i ask you some questions? These questions are for both the bachelors and spinsters.
1. What is marriage? Can you explain to us without making it look like a primary school topic and definition gotten from the syllable?
2. How good are you in management? I mean home management, emotional management, time management, Etc.
3. How patient are you?
4. What can you offer, outside sex and making babies?
5. How emotionally, spiritually and intellectually equipped are you?
6. Are you ready to keep your marriage secrets away from your parents? Definitely, they never told you everything that took place in their own union.
