CaptainCanny: Exactly a week after submission of my application, I was rejected on the ground of status in country of residence despite stating expressly in my document and sop that I am not resident in the uk and attaching a copy of my visa page which is valid until next year. I went further by attaching a scanned copy of my return ticket. I still like to know the reason for my the refusal besides the generic one stated in the letter, thus I might apply for a gcms. Any one with a link on how to apply for it? I will reapply upon my return to Nigeria since my resumption date is in January. Glad I undertook this adventure of discovery, this issue is not officially put to bed. Be advised, apply in the visa office recommended for your region.
Yours sincerely,
Sacrificial Lamb. sorry bro...@least we now know it's not going to fly via that route |

I've never used lagos airport for international trip only abuja
I'm considering using lagos now... How is it in lagos? Stressful? Congrats CanadianNurse Engineer , ethiopian airline has a good reputation for an african airline(cost effective too and somewhat reliable). but bear in mind that you might fly from abuja to addis ababa before you begin your transatlantic flight(waiting @ ethiopia for hours b4 your connecting flight). luftanza would be a sure bet(more expensive though but you would enjoy the german hospitality). egyptair is cost effective(your might wait 4-5hours in cairo before proceeding to canada with your heart pounding ). my tots...congrats once again use abuja airport ....lagos airport na wa(stressfulllll)... |

Holyfield1: I just wanna confirm something bro, Did you touched down at the province your school is exactly, Hope their won't be a problem at the POE, If one was admitted at a university in Nova Scotia but decided to drop at Ontario? I suggest that you arrive at nova Scotia first and head back to Toronto(I presume). this will save you from harsh questioning from the border officials .A friend once had an unpleasant experience with them. He was supposed to have arrived in Toronto as stated in his visa application but the dude wanted to have a feel of French Canada so he decided to stop over @Montreal...well he got the bashing of his life and was almost sent home(it was after the Paris terrorist attacks that killed and maimed hundreds and the Canadian border officials were on red alert) so bro arrive in Nova Scotia(assuming that's your school location) and then take a bus down to Toronto(this would enable you take up and totally enjoy the beautiful Canadian landscape...well that's if you are an outdoor nature loving person). shalom |

Dunna: Please house, how long does it take on the average to do biometrics, is it a rigorous process. If I arrive the Lagos office around 1pm based on my flight schedules, will I be able to compete the biometrics same day, I am applying via online route. Please this will help my planning. @dunna: knowing the unpredictable nature of our local airlines(they could cancel your flights at will), i would suggest you get to lagos a day before your biometrics date and proceed the following day arriving early at vfs office(thats if you want to exit vfs office in record time ). since you are going via the online route, click biometrics only at the ticketing computer(console) at the entrance of the vfs canada section. the vfs agents will ask for your passport /biometric request form(you would end up paying N460,well actually N500( for sms alert) because GTB agents wont remit your N40 change with their sophisticated looks ) and the entire process takes a couple of minutes. shalom |

penitential: I initially don’t want to comment on here about the moniker @SURGEE post, but I’m unable to keep quiet seeing many fumes it has generated. Let me start by saying this; I don’t think anybody should jeered when he/she shares whatever believe that has worked for him/her. But I believe this is a public forum where nobody is compelled to either accept or comment on anyone’s post. If you don’t believe in whatever has worked for Mr.A, just read or better still ignore his/her post and move on with your life! Whatever the moniker @SURGEE has posted, if it does not work for you, or you seem not to find whatever information you’re looking for inside his/her post (S.O.P, L.O.I, strategy,…whatever!) it is either you post your question/problem and wait for whoever has contribution to it to come and attend to it. What you’re not seeing inside a post you’re condemning may be the saving grace of even an un-born child aspiring to study in Canada.
To the quoted text; the fact that we have other religion practitioners on this thread does not mean that one should not be able to come out boldly to attest to what has worked for him/her or the faith he/she has acted on and worked for him/her. If you’re are an atheist or traditional worshipper or whatever/whoever you worship or are, you’re very welcome to share what works for you and let whoever wants to believe do; and whoever does not want to, should pass by. I see no lack of communication etiquette in what the said moniker posted. He has neither insulted anybody or any belief nor shut anybody from coming to share his/her idea or belief.
To the bolded, i will still say that if you’re really particular about what you need and you’re not seeing it, rather than engaging in criticism, why not asked the person directly by quoting him/her? If there’s anything you’d like to know that’s not in his/her post, ask politely!, or better still send a p.m to the moniker. Please and please, it’s a VERY BAD idea when we try to shut people up for sharing what they believed in and has worked for them. I know of some monikers that has left this thread due to criticism to the believe which I know if they’d been, many people would have benefited from them.
People keep saying the moniker does not share tips, what about the quoted? It is so dis-heartening to see how some people read/listen to pick fault rather than learn. The said moniker @SURGEE gave so many tips that aided his success story but yet some people will still not see because they’re hell-bent on criticizing his belief. Well I will just highlight few of those tips he shared not because of those who are unable to read and digest his post, but for those who will benefit later PERSISTENCE AND PERSEVERANCE.
HAVE ALTERNATIVES/ BACK-UP PLANS.
well said...... |

Austinpee4: Having read lots of post lately about funds and sponsorship, pls indulge me to make these points.
1. Anybody can choose to sponsor you but you stand a better chance with a 3rd party/company sponsorship when they have commited funds to your study as well as proven relationship to you. The sponsorship letters should ONLY tell officers where the funds is coming from and why they decided to sponsor you. Anything other than that will leave alot of questions in a visa officer's minds that your supporting documents/case must answer to. If you can satisfy these questions then by all means, use them.
2. Funds to be filled in the application form should be for one year. You must also show means of funds for the second year if your program is more than a year. Also,if you are self sponsored and have all the funds for the duration of your program( 1or 2 years) you can fill the equivalent in the available funds section.
3.Endeavour to use an affidavit of sponsorship if you are using a 3rd party sponsorship. Relatives and family members are mostly reliable sponsors because there is some kind of blood connection and your overall academic pursuit will bring some advantage or pride to them when they sponsor you. The overall interest of a person willingly sponsoring you must somehow be seen in your application. People put their money where their heart or interest is.
4. Make sure you don't submit a statement of account that doesn't have traceable source(s) of accumulated funds. The 6 months SOA required by CIC is most LIKELY to quantify and ascertain how funds available was accumulated and if funds will be generated for subsequent year(s) once program is more than a year.
5.You and your sponsor(s) should not play smart about making funds available just to get the VISA by lodging sudden lump unexplainable money and think it's about inflow and outflow. CIC requirements of having funds for tuition and living expenses in LIQUID form for a year is standard as stipulated in the IRCC/IRP act. Your funds available must meet this requirement either through a well built statement of account showing funds available, loan facility, bank draft in convertible currency or schoolarship award, etc to get your study permit approved.
6. After your purpose of visit is in-check and convincing, the next most important thing is the funds for your study. You must convince officers that indeed, you will have the funds that you have declared. This is really IMPORTANT. People who get refused a study permit even when the have huge amount of funds to show didn't meet other requirement of a study permit and PURPOSE OF VISIT is usually and often time the main issue.
Finally, Choose programs and school you and your sponsor can afford. It is one thing to be admitted to a program and it is another to prove to canadian immigration officers that you can meet the challenges of studying in canada without a recourse to their government in whatsoever capacity. They want to make sure they discourage the idea of you working to fund your studies as the expect international students to invest funds in their economy while they make same economy very attractive to foreign students with good incentives. It's a give and take situation.
All the best to the hopefuls. question answered....thanks |

Austinpee4: Fill the tuition fees as written on your admission letter while the funds available should be the cummulative of your tuition, living expenses and miscellaneous funds for one year. SURGEE: My case is different (MCID)
I really can’t remember when I started following this forum I think 2012. I actually stumbled on it and when we were about graduating in 2014 I had everything laid you. MUN was the bomb and you obviously know why, cheap tuition and cost of living. So my two other friends and I started our application, one was a male and the other, female. The female had a first class and the other a second-class upper. These profiles were good enough to us so we fired our applications and lest I forget, I also had a Second-class Upper. My friends applications were completed after sending in their transcripts and other supporting documents but mine had some issues. Why? The transcript I applied for didn’t get to the school early enough, even after different follow ups at the student affairs department of my University. In one word my application wasn’t completed and admission decision couldn’t be made in my favour.
To my two other friends whose applications were complete, admission decisions were not also made in their favour as entry into a Masters of petroleum engineering seems to be extremely competitive. We weren’t happy about this at all……….Imagine! None of us was accepted !!!!....You know, then we believed that with our 2.1 and first class, Canadian Universities would literally be glad to offer us admission, forgetting the fact that we are competing with applicants from developed and more developing countries across the world with a degree from Nigeria. Actually all this was still part of God’s plan but it was hard for us to believe as at then.
Lesson: When failure arises in your quest for success, see it as a process to your breakthrough……Failure makes the testimony sweet!!
So as I was saying, this all happened few months into our national service year. The male friend was a desperate guy, like he can do any justifiable thing, and I mean JUSTIFYABLE not otherwis to enter into Canada. He nearly spent all his alawee applying to schools and over Three (3) bounced him before University of Ottawa gave him admission into Chemical Engineering for Winter 2016. He filed for TRV in October 2015 and after we completed NYSC service in Nov. 2015, his TRV was approved by Dec. 2015. You know the feeling you get when your personal paddy just chop TRV. I was overjoyed as if I was the one wey chop the TRV. We all knew the good news had begun and that was hope for the other two (2) of us.
Lesson: Always make friends with people of the same vision, they can help propel your enthusiasm even when everything seems to weigh you down. Don’t stay around people that would discourage or even envy you, move with people of insight……birds of the same feather….
The female friend who made a first class also applied to like five (5) schools between 2015 and 2016, she got bounced by two and got accepted by two and I think MUN also offered her another admission, but the fees was too expensive so it was out of it. The other two were University of ******* and University of ****** for Petroleum Engineering (Masters). That year, which was last year, 2016, the former accepted only 12 masters student into her MEng Petroleum Engineering program across the world with what she said, and for the University to have offered her a seat was just God’s grace. But here came the bone of contention; financing her education. She was from a humble background and there was no cash. How mush are we talking about, less than 4000CAD per semester. I know if she’ll be laughing reading this by now. In fact, we couldn’t even find her a viable sponsor with a buoyant account that will help solidify her visa application. What we had on ground couldn’t pacify our personal queries not to talk of scrutinizing the application from the VO’s point of view. In the middle of all this uncertainty and demoralization, the admission into Regina came with full funding into the same program.
Having written the PTDF scholarship exam for that year, she was however favoured and was lucky enough to be one of the winners of the scholarship, so she attached the Full Funding letter from the school with the PTDF Scholarship Letter to her TRV application. Before we know it, in less than 5 weeks her TRV was out.
Lesson – Anything is possible, keeping fighting for what you believe in even if you don’t have the resources at hand…Call those things that are not as though they were.
Faith is what moves God to provide for you in the midst of nothing. Her testimony was just a surprise. You will agree with me that if she had been offered admission the previous years (2014 & 2015), she wouldn’t have had all the great opportunities presented to her in the present year (2016). …….. God is never late, God is restoring the years, and he has a reason for everything if you will continue to believe. Her story still shocks me any day I think about her. My friend is really in millions now o, at least a Naira Millionaire (Double Grace)……lollss
So, Mr MCID, abeg your pardon, this your story don dey long gan!!.... how e come be for you now??!!!, ….…erhhh (To be continued)……… #wehdoneSir
GOD BLESS YOU FOR YOUR MOTIVATIONAL PIECE.....YOUR TESTIMONY IS ON THE WAY |
